Motorcycles and bicycles go hand in hand for many riders. Keen to leverage its existing powersport audience and grow into other fun-filled outdoor segments, Yamaha Bicycles has updated its dual sport–like pedal-assist bicycle entry with its 2022 Wabash RT gravel bike ($4,099). The kickstand-equipped CrossCore RC urban all-arounder ($3,099) also receives some improvements. Both cycles are categorized as Class 3 electric bikes limited to 28 mph with pedal assist.
The Wabash RT is designed for pedal bikers who want a road-style bicycle they can ride on road as well as off. Enter the 700c-wheel-equipped Wabash RT, powered by Yamaha’s proprietary PW generation electric motor. Although Yamaha Bicycles is new in the pedal-assist bicycle game here in the United States, the brand has been manufacturing these propulsion systems since the early ’90s.
The Wabash RT is notable because it allows riders to experience the thrills and excitement of cycling in a remarkably easy-to-use package. Its 500-watt battery is built into the lower frame tube and charges via a household-style three-prong 120-volt power adapter, taking four hours to top off completely. Once charged to max, this pedal-assist bicycle offers a range of up to 100 miles in its lowest Eco power setting...

00:00 Hey folks, we just got done riding Yamaha Bicycles 2022 Wabash RT gravel bike. This is a new and
00:08 improved pedal assist powered gravel bike. Now this bike is designed for pedal bike enthusiasts
00:15 who want a road style pedal bike that they can ride on road as well as off. Enter this 700c wheel
00:25 equipped Wabash RT. Now this particular pedal bike is powered by Yamaha's proprietary PW
00:36 generation electric motor. Now although Yamaha Bicycles is new in the pedal assist bicycle game
00:44 here in the United States, the tuning fork brand's been manufacturing these propulsion systems since
00:52 the early 90s. Now this vehicle is so neat because it allows you to experience the thrill,
01:00 the excitement of cycling in a much easier to use package. It has a 500 watt powered battery built
01:10 into the lower frame tube. It's charged via a household style power adapter. It takes a few
01:17 hours to charge the battery from empty and once topped off this pedal assist bicycle has a range
01:24 of up to 100 miles in its lowest setting. There's a nice super easy to use LCD style display here on
01:33 the handlebar which you can use to choose the different power modes. It's got four power modes
01:38 plus an automatic power setting which automatically chooses the right power setting based on your
01:46 cadence, based on your incline, and based on how much demand you have when you're putting energy in
01:54 through the cranks. Now I really like the ergonomics on these bikes. I like riding road
02:00 bikes. They're fun. You can go great distances on these bikes. You get a good workout. You get to
02:05 see and do things that are a little bit easier than a conventional motor vehicle or even a
02:10 motorcycle. I like that this thing has powerful hydraulic disc brakes. I like the meaty wide
02:19 Maxxis tires on this thing. I couldn't believe how much trip these tires have off road even in the
02:25 sand. These things really impress me. I also like this neat dropper seat which goes up and down by
02:31 just over an inch and a half. It also has a clever suspension system in it so when you hit real big
02:39 jolts and bumps it'll actually give you a little bit of cushion to help give you a more comfortable
02:45 ride when you're riding off road and hitting rocks and all that kind of stuff. Overall I really
02:51 enjoyed riding this pedal assist bicycle from Yamaha. If you're the type of person who wants to
02:58 experience the thrill of road bike cycling but you're maybe not in the best physical fitness,
03:05 you could do really well with this bike. Having the motor beneath you lets you go farther,
03:10 lets you go at a higher rate of speed, but you still have to burn some energy and put some muscle
03:16 through the pedals to get it to go and that's neat. You get the best of both worlds. You get a
03:21 little bit of exercise. You get a little bit of easy use with the power of the motor and you get
03:25 to go farther and see more on this pedal bike. Alright folks that wraps up today's ride on the
03:31 2022 Yamaha Bicycles Wabash RT gravel bike. Make sure to tune on in to MotorcyclistOnline.com for
03:41 all of our content. Give this video a thumbs up if you liked it, thumbs it down if you didn't
03:46 like it and we'll see you next time. Thanks for riding with us today.
