00:00 And we were all like forced to listen to her.
00:02 And yes, was she good?
00:03 Of course, she's great.
00:05 But I just wanted to eat my sandwich.
00:07 Carly Waddell can no longer keep a poker face
00:11 about Lady Gaga.
00:12 During the November 6th episode of Trading Secrets
00:16 with Jason Tardik, the Bachelor alum recalls
00:19 her time studying theater alongside the pop superstar
00:23 when they were both attending NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
00:27 You were like in class with Lady Gaga?
00:29 Like you know Lady Gaga?
00:30 Well, yes.
00:32 But then she was Stephanie.
00:34 OK, what was Stephanie like in class?
00:37 I was not a fan.
00:38 Though Carly considers herself to be somewhat
00:41 of a little monster now, the 38-year-old admittedly
00:44 was quote, "not a fan of Gaga."
00:47 Born Stephanie Germanotta in college.
00:50 During lunch, she would play on the piano.
00:54 There's a piano.
00:55 Because you would eat just in like a dance studio.
00:58 And there was a piano.
01:00 And she would sit at the piano every single day
01:02 and just play and sing Wicked at the top of her lungs every day.
01:07 And we were all just trying to eat lunch.
01:09 It was like break time.
01:10 Yeah, it was break time.
01:11 And we were all like forced to listen to her.
01:13 And yes, was she good?
01:15 Of course, she was great.
01:17 But I just wanted to eat my sandwich, you know?
01:20 And so I used to just eat in the hallway
01:22 because she was driving me crazy.
01:23 While Carly doesn't think Gaga was
01:25 more talented than the rest of the students,
01:28 and their elite program, which only
01:30 accepted around 60 people per year,
01:33 she notes that the future Grammy winner did set herself
01:36 apart with her fashion.
01:37 She would wear these really tight leotards.
01:40 And she had really big boobs back then.
01:42 And her boobs were just like coming out.
01:45 Was she noticeably in your--
01:48 was she like noticeably though, like way better than everybody?
01:51 No.
01:52 When it came to music, she explains,
01:54 Gaga would turn heads when she performed
01:57 with her own material, as opposed to following
02:00 their musical theater training.
02:02 When she played at the talent show, the NYU talent show,
02:06 she was singing her own stuff.
02:07 And I was like, you can't argue.
02:10 That girl's really good.
02:11 And I would definitely say she was better--
02:14 she was good at everything.
02:15 But she was better at her own stuff.
02:17 She was down at the piano, like wailing her own tunes.
02:20 Now I'm like, god, what was she singing?
02:22 I wish I could remember.
02:23 Or had a video of it or something.
02:25 She's like, ah, no, no, no.
02:27 Ultimately, Gaga dropped out of the program
02:30 to pursue her career, a choice that Carly, who also chose not
02:34 to finish her studies, applauds in hindsight.
02:37 I don't know.
02:37 I mean, I don't know what she did.
02:39 But she's a genius.
02:40 All right.
02:41 Well, Carly's a fan of her music, a fan of her talent,
02:43 maybe not a fan of her personally.
02:45 I wasn't her fan of her at that moment.
02:47 At that moment, yeah.
02:48 But I was not my best at that moment either.
02:50 I think we both dropped out of the program
02:54 because we didn't love the program.
02:56 And I'm sure she was just as unhappy in it as I was
03:00 or she would have stayed.
03:01 E! News has reached out to Gaga's rep for a comment
03:04 but has not heard back.
