00:09 Dr. Rob, one of the most talked about plays in the Nebraska-Maryland game is the last
00:14 play for the Nebraska offense.
00:16 Now let's set this up first of all.
00:18 Nebraska gets the ball on its own seven.
00:20 Chubbaperty comes in, marches them down to the five yard line.
00:23 First and goal.
00:24 Nice looking drive.
00:25 Nice looking drive.
00:26 So you're at first and goal.
00:27 First play is a pass.
00:30 What are you doing there?
00:32 I understand the idea that you want to keep that defense off balance a little bit, but
00:36 you've gotten there with the run the whole way.
00:39 The concern is that you do start running out of a little bit of space, whether it is a
00:44 run or a pass, and the defense is going to be sucking up regardless because there's less
00:48 vertical field in which to play in.
00:51 And so running the ball in those red zone areas, especially once you get inside the
00:57 ten yard line, does become more difficult.
01:00 And so I understand going with the pass there.
01:03 But what does Nebraska do better, run or pass?
01:06 Well, that's a subjective question.
01:08 They definitely run the ball better and they're far more turnover prone within the passing
01:13 game.
01:14 And so you would think the safe option there would be to try and come up with some kind
01:18 of run.
01:19 Well, remember, all you need is three points because you're tied at ten at this point.
01:22 Next play, a two yard loss.
01:25 So then now you've backed up two yards.
01:26 Now you're at third and goal.
01:28 This is where we pick it up.
01:29 Right away you can see the Huskers almost giving away what they're going to do.
01:33 It is.
01:34 Now, when you look at the setup, you and I were talking about this.
01:37 I could see them, they've got Fedoni down here.
01:39 I could see them trying to come in with the delay route with Fedoni here on this side
01:43 with the idea that you're going to have most of the defense keyed in up here at the top
01:48 of the screen where you've got Kemp Bullock and Malachi Coleman out there.
01:54 The play design, when you look at it, Kemp comes up, he's going to take a route here
02:03 in the end zone.
02:04 Bullock's coming in.
02:05 It almost looks like he, and actually maybe even Coleman, when I first watched this play,
02:10 I actually really thought Malachi and Bullock both were coming up on sort of these rub routes
02:17 to clear out space for Kemp to end up open up here in the back of the end zone.
02:24 The more I look at it, the more it looks like Kemp here with his route is really going to
02:30 be, this is sort of the safety.
02:33 This is the guy who ball gets deflected, bounces in the air, he catches it for a touchdown.
02:40 Bullock right here is the guy who's a little bit of the rub guy, going to clear some space.
02:44 The more I watch it, the more it looks like the intended target was Malachi coming across
02:50 here.
02:51 I don't know if he just misjudged the ball, if he didn't understand it was going to be
02:55 coming to him, or if he didn't understand that it was going to be coming to him as quickly
02:59 as it did.
03:00 But when you look at this, that pass is going to come right past Malachi.
03:05 The defender's right there, picks it off, and Maryland gets a nice little start to their
03:13 game-winning drive.
03:14 Well, it looks like Malachi just kind of gave up on it too.
03:17 I mean, a lot of people are putting towards, I think there's a lot of error maybe on a
03:21 lot of different guys.
03:22 I think there is, and I think a lot of it is that when you get in a situation like this
03:26 where you've got a young receiver.
03:28 You've got a young receiver who is insanely talented, but he doesn't have a lot of playing
03:35 time in terms of total career.
03:40 He's a guy who started playing football in high school, I believe, so he doesn't have
03:44 a lot of years under his belt.
03:46 There's still a lot of learning in the game going on, and he's learning it at a massive
03:52 fast pace on a huge scale, on a big stage, in a not easy situation where you've got a
04:00 new coach that's trying to architect a rebuild here, and he's trying to do it with a third
04:06 string quarterback who has had very limited reps both in practice and in games this year.
04:14 And if you go back and watch, and you can re-watch the Docks Diagnosis, Chubb telegraphs
04:18 exactly where he's going right when he gets there.
04:21 So that leads to a Maryland field goal, which was the game winner, as Nebraska is still
04:25 looking to become bowl eligible.
04:26 For Dr. Rob Zaduska, I'm Travis Justice.
