00:00 All right, Brad, are you the father?
00:02 No, well--
00:03 You were just saying you weren't.
00:05 No, I'm not.
00:05 That is a likely question, though,
00:07 with talk show host Maury.
00:09 So check it out.
00:10 And I talk with the legendary Maury about his talk show
00:13 and a lot more.
00:14 Here, take a look.
00:17 Good Maury, Maury, how you doing, sir?
00:20 Brad, I'm doing fine.
00:21 It's always good to talk to you and everybody
00:24 in the Valley of the Sun.
00:25 I love it.
00:26 I love it.
00:26 Well, listen, all right, listen, what are you doing?
00:29 You're supposed to be retired, but we are still
00:31 carrying your amazing library here
00:33 that everyone still thinks that you're
00:34 working hard because these shows are just still
00:38 irrevelent right now.
00:39 They're still going strong.
00:41 I'll tell you, I worked very hard on these shows.
00:44 And it's amazing that they have held up so well all these years.
00:51 And I get comments all the time from people who say,
00:55 you know, you're still on.
00:57 And even though they've seen them,
01:00 you know, it's like people who watch Seinfeld.
01:03 It's like people who watch all of these comedies
01:07 from years ago.
01:08 And they're still going strong.
01:10 And thankfully, my show is going strong.
01:14 I love it.
01:14 All right, what are you up to now?
01:16 I mean, I know that we think that you retired,
01:18 but you're not.
01:19 You're still going strong in the media business, aren't you?
01:22 Yeah, I am.
01:23 Believe it or not, even in these difficult times,
01:27 my wife Connie Chung and I started a newspaper
01:30 15 years ago in the great state of Montana where we summer.
01:34 And so I'm paying attention to that.
01:36 It's called The Flathead Beacon.
01:38 It's won all kinds of awards for the last 15 years in Montana
01:42 as the best weekly and the best website.
01:45 And we put out a kind of-- you have them,
01:49 I know, in the Phoenix area, these glossy seasonal magazines.
01:53 And we do one of those.
01:55 So we're paying attention to that.
01:56 And quite frankly, as most people know from your area,
02:02 I love to play golf.
02:04 And I do go to Arizona a lot during the year.
02:07 I belong to a great club called Whisper Rock.
02:10 And I play a lot of golf out in Grayhawk and Whisper Rock
02:14 and Desert Mountain and a lot of the courses
02:17 in your area, which are, by the way,
02:18 some of the greats in the world.
02:20 Yeah, I'll tell you, Maury, it's just amazing
02:23 as I'm listening to you.
02:24 I feel like you're still on the air doing new shows, which
02:28 is so great, I mean, the way you're talking here.
02:31 But let's talk a little bit about your shows.
02:33 And like we said, we have your library.
02:36 It's still going strong.
02:37 And they're still helping people.
02:38 It's amazing how people who are not guests on your show
02:41 still get help watching your show.
02:43 And is that something, like you said,
02:45 you worked hard to make sure that was happening?
02:47 You know, you bring up a terrific point about the show.
02:51 Because over the years, I've had a lot of media critics
02:56 hit at me for the show.
02:58 They call it exploitative.
03:01 They call the show too edgy.
03:03 And I just fire back this.
03:08 Everyone knows, particularly on the paternity shows,
03:11 that a child has a much better chance at life
03:14 if they have two parents in their lives.
03:16 And if I can get a significant percentage of these men who
03:20 deny these children into the lives of these kids,
03:24 they're going to lead better lives.
03:26 And so what happens is, because I've
03:28 been doing it for so long, we can bring back these families
03:32 15, 20 years later and find out, did that guy really
03:37 get involved with that child?
03:39 And on many occasions--
03:41 I'm not going to say a majority.
03:43 But I'll tell you, it's got to be a strong minority.
03:46 And I say maybe 30% or 40% of these fathers
03:50 do get involved with these children
03:52 and are in their lives.
03:54 And so therefore, we see these children, at times babies,
03:59 come back.
04:00 They've been raised by two parents.
04:02 They've graduated high school.
04:04 They've gone to college.
04:06 They're gainfully employed.
04:11 They may have families of their own.
04:13 And so that's my justification for doing
04:18 that particular thing.
04:19 I'll tell you, it's so cool.
04:20 And also, as we said, you're not done.
04:24 You are getting into digital.
04:26 I see you sometimes on social media and stuff.
04:29 And so is that the new way we're going to start to see more?
04:32 Yeah, that's why I'm not retired.
04:35 I have a huge--
04:37 I think I have maybe well over 6 million followers on Facebook.
04:42 I have over 2 million followers on YouTube.
04:45 I'm now approaching $2 million, 2 million viewers on TikTok,
04:52 which has become huge to me.
04:55 I always thought TikTok was for kids.
04:58 But we're finding out everybody now is tuning into TikTok.
05:03 And so we have great clips there.
05:05 We have special-- we have original footage
05:09 for all of these various social media platforms.
05:12 And so it's like I haven't retired at all,
05:15 because I'm doing fresh material all the time.
05:18 I love it.
05:18 And one thing that I will say is that it keeps people
05:22 watching the show fresh, and that is your game.
05:25 I had to bring this out, because this is it right here.
05:28 You're not the father game, which
05:30 is definitely a great holiday game to play with the family.
05:35 Yes.
05:36 Yeah.
05:37 It's a beauty.
05:38 I mean, it's amazing.
05:41 It wasn't our idea.
05:43 It was the game company's idea.
05:46 And they do a lot of research before they ever
05:50 put out a new game.
05:51 And so they came to NBC, which owns my show, and said,
05:55 we want to do a "Mari" show game called "You Are Not the Father."
05:59 And I went, wow.
06:00 Now I finally have arrived.
06:02 If I become on the front of a game, I mean,
06:06 what more can you ask for?
06:07 I'll tell you.
06:08 "Mari," I wish I could spend all day talking,
06:10 because there's a lot of things I love to talk about.
06:12 So you've got to come to the station
06:14 when you're in town golfing.
06:15 Maybe take a break.
06:16 I will.
06:17 But we definitely want to set more of these up.
06:20 AZTV has been one of the most loyal stations
06:25 we've ever had for my show.
06:27 And it's been on for a long, long time.
06:29 And Brad, more than anything else, I want to thank you.
06:32 Forget about thanking me.
06:33 I want to thank you and your viewers.
06:35 You've been so loyal to the show.
06:37 Well, hey, you know what?
06:39 In your heart, you're all good to us here at AZTV 7.
06:43 Thank you.
06:43 All right.
06:44 Thanks, "Mari."
06:45 My pleasure.
