All. Dolphins columnist Omar Kelly makes the case that Connor Williams is the one player the Miami Dolphins should sign to a contract extension at this time
Transcript
00:00 And Conor Williams has shown you, you need me to have good trench play.
00:04 So he would be my top priority to resign.
00:07 I would struggle to go past 10 million a season.
00:11 >> Well, that was part of the equation.
00:13 Was it not the question that you asked?
00:15 Is somebody you can get at a decent price right now because of the fear of injury
00:19 from that player?
00:20 >> That he's battling a growing injury.
00:23 >> He also somebody who signed as a free agent with the Dolphins
00:27 a couple years ago, who may be looking and who performed well.
00:34 And he may be looking for a bigger bag, I think.
00:37 >> Okay, yeah, you could be looking for a bigger bag.
00:39 But if I got a bird in the hand,
00:42 which while you got a growing injury in your pants,
00:46 brother, that groin can tear.
00:51 You could be done for the season.
00:53 Then that $7 million a year contract that you're playing on right now,
00:58 that might be on the high end of what you can achieve.
01:01 So- >> Or-
01:06 >> Or?
01:07 >> Or you could look at Austin and being somebody who did not have
01:12 a first round pick like career, his first three season in the NFL,
01:19 has now blossomed and maybe perhaps somebody's telling him,
01:25 I don't wanna say this is as good as it's gonna get.
01:30 But something along those lines, where he's like, I have an opportunity to cash in
01:34 right now, cuz I'm playing at my peak right now.
01:37 Let me not squander that opportunity.
01:40 >> You continue to play on that groin injury and you put out some bad film,
01:45 it's gonna impact you and your price.
01:47 I think right now you go to the table if you're Drew Rosenhaus and you say,
01:51 listen, what's your best offer for
01:55 Conor Williams, and you really need to strongly consider that.
01:59 But hey, everybody runs their own business how they wanna run their own business.
02:03 Everybody is their own franchise, so in the best interest.
02:07 But to me, and I said this from the beginning,
02:09 probably episode 20 of the All Dolphins podcast.
02:13 What did I say?
02:14 I said, Conor Williams would be my top offseason player to sign.
02:21 Not Christian Wilkins, not Robert Hunt, not Zach Sealer,
02:26 not whoever you wanna name.
02:29 I say Conor Williams because he's a difference maker.
02:34 And- >> So is Christian.
02:36 >> What'd you say?
02:37 >> So is Christian.
02:38 >> So is Christian Wilkins.
02:40 And mind you- >> Christian wants to win.
02:43 Christian wants too much money.
02:45 >> Okay, mind you, I don't mind your answer in the least.
02:49 In fact, it's a very good answer.
02:50 I think there are a lot of good answers.
02:51 But I'm not as O-line obsessed as you are.
02:59 But I also believe if you're very good in the trenches, that's half the battle,
03:02 if not three quarters of the battle.
03:03 Look, he goes Philadelphia.
03:06 >> [APPLAUSE] >> And losing Christian Wilkins from that
03:10 defensive line leaves a gaping hole to me the same size,
03:15 if not bigger, as losing Conor Williams from the offensive line.
03:19 >> True, that's very fair, very valid.
