00:00 >> I know every opponent you guys take very seriously,
00:04 but any different feel to things this week with Miami coming up?
00:07 >> As we know, it's a big rivalry in the school and the history.
00:11 So considering that, I mean, we're gonna try our hardest to keep the streak going.
00:18 And as far as that, that's pretty much it.
00:21 >> Coach, I know there's talk about the challenges on defense with it being so
00:25 loud in the stadium.
00:25 What are you doing then, as a team as a whole, to protect some of the crowd noise?
00:29 >> Our hand signals, cuz of course it's loud in there.
00:32 We're gonna use our hand signals more.
00:33 Our practicing, of course, being loud in there,
00:37 how Coach Norfell has the speakers super loud, so we'll be prepared.
00:42 >> What was your first complaint when you left the state, Miami rivalry?
00:46 What have you heard about it, as far as your first?
00:52 >> We don't really talk about it much, cuz we're just focused on what we do, and
00:57 he makes that a big emphasis.
00:58 So we know it's a big rivalry in the school history, and
01:02 that's what we're gonna treat as a regular game.
01:03 >> How's your first year here gone?
01:07 I mean, it's close to the end now.
01:09 How would you say, has it been what you expected, or
01:12 has it been better than you expected?
01:15 >> It's been better than I expected, especially with the winning streak.
01:19 I've been on teams that have been good, but not this good.
01:24 And I've been able to practice against people that are super good,
01:27 that have chances of going to the league and stuff.
01:29 So considering that, I've been able to get better practicing against those guys.
01:35 And yeah, I love being on this team.
01:38 >> How long did it take you to realize that this was a really good team?
01:42 >> Probably a summer, honestly.
01:43 Of course, I was new to the team.
01:46 I was only there for a few months starting off.
01:48 And even being there for the first two months,
01:51 I could tell that we're gonna be a good team.
01:54 We just had to start bonding and stuff like that.
01:57 >> Was that your first career sack on Saturday?
02:00 What did that mean?
02:01 >> Yeah, it was big.
02:02 I had a blitz.
02:05 I went and blitzed him, and I got sack.
02:07 And then I didn't know if it was gonna be a sack or not, but
02:10 I read the stat sheet on Sunday, and they said I got it.
02:13 So yeah, I was super hyped.
02:14 >> You went to high school, you didn't have a ton of offers.
02:18 Then you go to junior college and don't play.
02:19 Are you hearing from people now that saw that back home?
02:23 Maybe you're shocked at how well you're doing?
02:29 >> Not much people really talk about it, but my family,
02:32 they always encourage me, some of my friends from high school,
02:34 they always encourage me to stay down and keep working.
02:37 And that's what I did, and then I got here.
02:40 >> Other challenges early this year at all, just going through adversity?
02:44 >> I wouldn't say adversity, just being able to, what's the word?
02:53 Being able to adjust on the fly, that would probably be the biggest thing.
02:56 >> What's it been like on the forward and
03:00 the short game, what's it been like?
03:04 >> They're super smart.
03:06 They have a lot of knowledge on the game, and it helps me get better at football and
03:09 then practice football because the knowledge they give me that they experience,
03:15 I can apply it to the field when I'm, say, one on ones or if we're in a team.
03:21 It helps me be able to react better.
03:23 >> Okay, good.
03:26 Thanks, Thompson.
03:27 >> Thank you, sir.
