00:00 And I thought today was another good work day.
00:02 And really the energy, the focus, you're trying to apply the things that we
00:07 were putting in the meeting room, carrying that over to walk throughs,
00:12 individual and then as we get out there for team.
00:15 But I thought it was a good day all in all.
00:17 I saw guys getting a lot of good work, continuing to compete,
00:21 continuing to push and ultimately,
00:23 you got a great spot for where we need to be in game week.
00:27 But we got two more days after this leading up to Saturday.
00:32 So we gotta make sure that we continue to grow,
00:34 clean up some of the mistakes we've made.
00:36 But I think the guys put a great amount of work into what we're asking them to do.
00:41 And continuing to build ourselves for the moment.
00:45 >> You have to, depending on who's available,
00:48 does that affect the game plan much?
00:50 And not knowing exactly what different parts of the week.
00:54 >> Absolutely.
00:54 >> How'd you handle it last week?
00:56 >> It's a lot of different scenarios, situations, personnels.
01:00 We've said since we got here and it's been true.
01:05 I mean, this is an offense that's built for playmakers.
01:07 And we have a lot of them.
01:09 But it's also about putting the playmakers in position to showcase all that they can
01:12 do.
01:13 And when it's changing personnel,
01:18 being able to work and help put guys in the best position.
01:23 Whether they're, the plan for their possibly available, and then or unavailable.
01:28 You just gotta be able to work with that next man up mentality as a coach as well.
01:35 And I think our staff's done a great job with that.
01:39 And it's really in all phases.
01:42 And so that's one of the things that makes it a little bit more challenging.
01:46 And especially when you get, like a week ago, when you have down what,
01:50 five receivers, I mean, it really limited even more than that in practice,
01:54 which was challenging.
01:55 But you just try to put together a plan A through however many letters you can count
01:59 and go apply it whenever it kicks off.
02:03 >> [INAUDIBLE] >> Who's that?
02:06 >> Yeah.
02:07 >> [INAUDIBLE] >> You're asking about his?
02:11 >> How's he progressing?
02:12 >> Great, he looks wonderful.
02:13 >> [LAUGH] >> He's doing good.
02:16 I mean, we're obviously continuing to see his guys progress during the week.
02:20 Exactly where they'll be at.
02:23 But I think we're seeing positive strides with a lot of guys.
02:26 Jerrion Jones, who was out last week, and he's gotten back and looking good.
02:32 So I think we're trending the right way and
02:34 see where it is as we get closer to kickoff.
02:37 >> So like in a situation last week where you guys go to Jakai early in the week and
02:40 talk about playing outside.
02:42 If it didn't look good during the week, would you have gone and scrapped it?
02:45 Or how do you evaluate that kind of thing?
02:47 >> I knew it would look bad.
02:48 >> Yeah, you evaluate all options.
02:52 And every receiver in our offense, we're not like,
02:56 you're an outside receiver, you're an inside.
03:00 I mean, they all have to do multiple things.
03:03 Some guys might find themselves in a spot more times than others.
03:08 But I don't really like recruiting or
03:14 going after guys that can just do one thing.
03:16 That's the case, I mean, there's other good offenses to play,
03:18 but it's probably not this one.
03:20 I mean, I wanna be able to showcase all guys that guys can do.
03:24 And I mean, we had a pretty good sense of what it would be and
03:27 help put him in the best position.
03:28 >> Being able to put tight ends out wide, what does that do for you?
03:34 >> I mean, it goes back to versatility.
03:36 And you see it, whether it's tight ends, running backs, I mean, we want playmakers.
03:41 We want guys that are able to do a variety of different things.
03:44 And learning the concepts, understanding what to do, the details of it.
03:50 I couldn't think, it might have been yesterday,
03:51 just talking a little bit about that position.
03:53 You don't want guys that are just okay at a variety of things.
03:56 You want guys that can go out there and really execute at a high level and
04:00 that it fits their skill set.
04:02 And I think we've got great versatility among that group.
04:05 And when you can line them up out wide and have good matchups,
04:09 whether it's size or just different presentations of what we can do.
04:16 I think it's a real positive.
04:17 >> You're such an emotional game.
04:20 How does your team go out there and play with controlled emotion and not?
04:23 >> You prepare emotionally.
04:26 And I mean, that's one of the things I've been pleased with at practice.
04:30 And that's one of the reasons we coach the way we coach and we do what we do.
04:34 Is I want to push all emotion.
04:37 I want to see as much as we can get from here and then to see them be in control.
04:41 To see them be able to apply the finest of details in the moment.
04:47 And there's still nothing like it when you run out of that tunnel and
04:53 what that's gonna be.
04:54 You simulate it as best as possible, but we try to prepare for it every day.
05:00 >> When they went to the playoff, I think there was some fear that maybe rivalry
05:03 games would lose some of their juice because everything was about the playoff.
05:06 And I know you guys have bigger goals ahead of you, but
05:09 you speak about the importance of the rivalry.
05:11 Do guys that are maybe only here, this is gonna be their only shot at this.
05:13 Do they realize what Kaylin and
05:15 Kim have put in and what it's gonna mean to them to walk out with it?
05:17 >> Absolutely, it was talked about.
05:19 Like I said, there's only two games that I talk about before the season.
05:24 And I talk about them before our offseason because
05:28 every day matters when it comes to that.
05:30 And if that's not important to you, then you're not gonna play in this game.
05:35 Not because you will get exposed.
05:37 And this game takes everything that you have.
05:39 I'm grateful that I get a chance to coach in this game.
05:42 I mean, it's special.
05:45 And you respect the past, you respect every game that has been played before.
05:49 You respect the people that have played in this game.
05:52 And I mean, cuz these guys are gonna have to give it all.
05:55 If not, you take all records, all things that have happened before,
06:00 it won't matter.
06:02 You prepare for this one every single day.
06:05 >> The 2021 team is really young and
06:08 needed some moments against Miami to kind of grow and develop and build confidence.
06:13 How do you think that win that day helped a lot of guys, Jordan and Kim?
06:18 >> Yeah, it helped a lot of guys.
06:19 I mean, I think that was one of those emotional days.
06:25 And that they got to be in it and I thought they controlled it, they responded.
06:29 We started off really well.
06:31 There were some things that happened in the game that we talked about that would
06:33 probably happen.
06:34 And I thought our guys maintained their control and composure throughout it.
06:39 And they were able to execute and even through the swings.
06:43 I mean, we were up early and we found ourselves down late.
06:46 Had to go and whether it was special teams, we had a field goal there.
06:52 And one of those challenging situations of what are you gonna do?
06:55 What's it gonna look like?
06:56 But it was field goal, defense stop, and
06:58 then the offensive touchdown there to go win it.
07:01 But that was something that was needed as much as anything else.
07:05 To be in that game, to have to show all the preparation,
07:09 to show all the investment and the work for the payoff of how that game played out.
07:13 Just as much, just the game in general.
07:17 So it was really big.
07:18 >> At this point, it's week 10, you kind of are who you are.
07:22 If you change a quarterback like Miami May,
07:25 is it based on what the team is and whether or not they can change something
07:29 drastically at this point in the season based on personnel?
07:32 >> So you're asking me more preparation for them based off their personnel?
07:37 >> I guess just, you've seen what they are on film.
07:39 Is that what you expect?
07:40 Or is there something they could probably radically do with a new quarterback
07:43 at least time?
07:44 >> I mean, we're preparing for Van Dyke to play.
07:47 I mean, that's like Noah mentioned it yesterday, I was asked about it.
07:50 If there's something different, we've seen Emory has played,
07:57 started the whole Clemson game, so we've got our thoughts there.
08:00 And obviously, that was a big win for them.
08:03 But we'll have plans for all things that we can't see.
08:08 But there's been plenty of times you get into a game, and
08:11 we saw it early in the season, that guys would maybe do certain things that
08:15 they haven't shown before, adapt, adjust, and go get it done.
08:18 Be able to execute to the rules and the things that we've been working on.
08:22 And I've got a lot of confidence in what our team will do if we need to adjust.
08:27 >> With Ryan went to kick a field goal early in practice,
08:30 you guys had a noise, a call timeout.
08:32 Even though it's a home game this week, just trying to create pressure,
08:35 deep pressure.
08:36 >> Every day.
08:37 I don't care if home or away.
08:38 I mean, this is one of the things that's big on our communication.
08:43 Defensively, we need a crowd noise.
08:45 So this thing's gonna be rocking Saturday.
08:47 I have all expectations of what it's gonna be inside that stadium.
08:53 So we make sure our defensive guys are communicating,
08:56 understanding they probably won't be able to hear.
08:58 Making sure that we're doing the things necessary.
09:00 And then, yeah, I don't care, offense, defense, loud game, quiet game.
09:05 I mean, we're gonna create that chaos as much as possible so
09:10 that we can hone in, focus on what we can control, and go execute.
09:13 >> You good?
09:15 >> Appreciate it, guys.
09:16 - Thank you.
