00:00 Skegness artist and performer Dee Dee Lee is celebrating after it was confirmed her portrait of Sir Lenny Henry
00:07 has helped break a world record.
00:09 Dee Dee was invited by the Sky TV Portraits of the Year program to be one of 200
00:17 artists taking part in the Guinness World Record attempt to finish the painting in one hour.
00:22 According to Dee Dee, Sir Lenny was the perfect model.
00:28 Well, I was invited down to take part in the world record attempt.
00:33 It falls under the most artists to paint in a single venue at one time.
00:40 I was one of special
00:43 200 artists to be specially invited down and
00:46 I was overjoyed to be asked.
00:49 Really surprised and then we was also joined across the world with other artists that zoomed in and
00:57 took part in the competition.
00:59 Obviously a massive event. How long did it take you to do the painting?
01:06 The actual record was we had to draw and paint in acrylics in one hour.
01:13 It had to cover 90% of the canvas to qualify. So even after we painted
01:20 there was an adjudicator to actually confirm that we'd done the
01:26 record and we didn't know until a few days later.
01:29 So it was a surprise when I got an email through saying congratulations. As an individual I've passed but as a group
01:38 as well we passed. So yeah, we've done it.
01:40 Now Lenny was there and he was a model. What kind of model was he?
01:46 He was brilliant.
01:48 He came there, he was laughing and joking.
01:51 He was supposed to sit still and he did for about a whole five or maybe ten minutes trying to sit still.
01:58 But then he was up and he was looking, talking to the artists and telling jokes and
02:03 I even showed him my Tisbos video
02:06 and he put his thumbs up for that. So yeah, he was a brilliant model to paint.
02:12 The portrait is to be exhibited later this month at two variety shows that Deedee is producing at St.
02:21 Clements Church Hall in Skegness.
