Detroit Lions bye week comes at perfect time after team starts with 6-2 record.
Transcript
00:00 The Detroit Lions are set to enter the bye week here in the 2023 NFL season.
00:04 Here today to break down what that means for the team is SIL Lions' John Mackrim.
00:09 John, give me your thoughts on the bye week and why this might be the ideal time for the
00:13 Lions to enter the bye. Yeah, real perfect opportunity. Week nine, I think that for
00:18 the Detroit Lions kind of banged up entering the bye week with a record of six and two.
00:23 Really, you look at it Cameron, this football team has had success even though they've been
00:29 forced to shuffle a lot of different pieces. Against the Raiders on Monday Night Football,
00:32 they were without Jonah Jackson, Frank Ragnall, David Montgomery. I think the bye week comes at
00:38 the perfect time. And most NFL players that you speak to in the locker room are going to tell you
00:43 that a bye week right in the middle of the season is perfectly ideal. You play half of a season,
00:48 you have an opportunity to learn about your football team, you know what's on tape, then
00:53 you get an opportunity to rest and kind of get away a little bit before having an opportunity
00:58 to play the second half of the season. For the Detroit Lions football team, it's a perfect time
01:02 to enter the bye so that they can get healthy and come back strong in the second half of the season
01:09 as they are poised to have success in the NFC North and maybe beyond in the playoffs.
01:15 So I think that for the Lions, it's a perfect time to learn about some deficiencies and clean
01:20 up some things that they can get better at on the field. And then the health of the roster
01:25 can certainly improve. Potentially getting back David Montgomery for this offense would be a huge
01:30 addition after the bye. So I think it's a perfect time to get a little break and come back strong
01:34 after a 6-2 start. John, like you said, the second half of the season is right around the corner.
01:39 Thanks for all the time.
