00:00 The Detroit Lions have made a trade with the Cleveland Browns, acquiring wide receiver
00:04 Donovan "Peoples" Jones.
00:06 Here today to break down that trade is SIL Lions' John Mackroom.
00:09 John, give me your thoughts and analysis on the trade of "Peoples" Jones.
00:13 Yeah, it was a real interesting trade deadline for the Detroit Lions.
00:17 Many clamored for the Lions to target defense, namely along the defensive line, being that
00:23 a plethora of their sack total has come in three games.
00:27 I think that the Detroit Lions defensive line could have used another edge rusher, an interior
00:32 defensive lineman to help with the pass rush and run defense.
00:36 But unfortunately, it just did not come to fruition.
00:38 Brad Holmes decides to sure up the wide receiver's room after Marvin Jones unexpectedly retired.
00:45 You now had a little bit of an opening, an opportunity to add a depth player.
00:49 Look, Donovan "Peoples" Jones last year really had a solid season, recording over 800 yards,
00:54 was a deep threat for the Cleveland Browns.
00:56 I think he'll come in here and be a reliable target for Jared Goff.
01:01 And I do think that only giving up a six-round pick makes it so that it's a real low-risk
01:06 investment and nothing that is going to potentially be disruptive to the room.
01:12 And I think for the Detroit Lions, having a six-and-two start made it so that they could
01:16 say, "You know what?
01:17 Look, this locker room is playing at a high level, a lot of good chemistry."
01:21 They did not want to upset the apple cart.
01:23 And some of the price tags that maybe would have been levied for some of the higher-end
01:28 talent, the Detroit Lions didn't want to pay.
01:30 They didn't want to give up a second or third-round pick for the likes of Amontaz Sweat or Chase
01:35 Young.
01:36 So for Brad Holmes, he takes care of a position of need.
01:39 But I do think that it did raise a certain amount of concern regarding the defensive
01:44 side of the football.
01:45 But I do believe that the addition of Donovan "Peoples" Jones will be good for the Lions'
01:49 offense and a nice opportunity to develop rapport with Jared Goff, who obviously is
01:55 going to love to have another weapon out there on the field.
01:58 DPJ, you are a Detroit Lion.
02:00 Welcome to the Motor City, and it will be interesting to see how this one plays out.
02:04 John, thanks for all the insight.
