00:00 It's almost three months ago since Amira Solomon had heart surgery, and today the Adelaide
00:06 mother is thanking the community for saving her life.
00:09 Amira has a rare blood type which is compatible with fewer than 1 in 10,000 people and needed
00:14 blood for her surgery.
00:16 An appeal motivated more than 5,000 people across the country to roll up their sleeves
00:20 for the first time, including almost 1,000 in South Australia.
00:24 Blood was also donated from around the country as well as the UK and France to make Amira's
00:29 surgery a success.
00:30 There are many people I'd like to thank, people from across Australia who heard about my story
00:39 and kindly donated for me.
00:42 You feel like you are living among your big family?
00:45 So yeah, it's your world.
00:49 So of course Amira and I, we feel like all Australians are our family.
00:55 While there was an influx of blood donations for Amira, Australian Red Cross Live Blood
00:59 says three quarters of those donors have not returned for a second appointment.
01:03 The organisation is currently appealing for people with O, negative and positive blood
01:08 types to come forward.
