00:00 >> All right, I thought we got good work today.
00:02 We had some energy today.
00:05 Sometimes we need to be maybe more focused energy,
00:09 got a little feisty out there, I would say.
00:14 But it was good, it was physical, it was fast.
00:16 You guys were working.
00:18 We still, I've said a lot of things that we're going against this week.
00:21 It's gonna take reps and preparation.
00:23 And we've seen a lot up to this point of the year.
00:26 As you continue to always work on a game plan,
00:29 you'll be able to get that implemented.
00:30 You wanna clean up the details, the fundamentals.
00:33 But I like the way the guys came and approached today.
00:36 I thought there was some good plays on both sides of the ball,
00:39 you know, in our speed work.
00:40 And then, obviously, it's a continuing just to push to get better.
00:45 And I think we did today.
00:47 >> Sounded like there was energy from the very beginning of practice.
00:50 Is that something that was discussed before they came in?
00:52 >> Well, I mean, it was kinda what we talked about yesterday.
00:55 It was talked Sunday night.
00:56 It was talked this morning.
00:58 What is it gonna look like?
00:59 I mean, anybody, you come out here, you get one day, you get one opportunity.
01:02 So what's it gonna be?
01:04 Is it gonna be your best?
01:05 Then we have a chance.
01:06 Are you gonna learn from mistakes?
01:07 Or even the positives that you've had, are you gonna work and be better?
01:11 And if you're willing to bring that mindset, you got a chance.
01:15 And I thought our guys had a good energy from the beginning,
01:18 which gave us a chance to get real work.
01:21 And were there mistakes?
01:22 Absolutely.
01:22 But we get a chance to go and see good effort,
01:25 plenty of want to and a mistake happened.
01:29 Now we can work to get it corrected.
01:30 >> Ja'Kai Douglas seemed to have a pretty solid day of practice.
01:35 How encouraged are you guys?
01:37 >> I mean, I thought, I'm excited to see Ja'Kai kinda get back in the routine.
01:42 I mean, obviously in the game, he got a couple catches.
01:44 Had a really big catch there down the field, which was good.
01:50 I mean, he's a very talented player.
01:53 A guy that can separate, has great speed.
01:55 He had some good practice today.
01:57 Some supplies we gotta clean up.
01:59 But I mean, I like to see that his confidence growing and
02:02 just continuing to emerge for us.
02:04 >> You mentioned the pricey practice.
02:05 Do you like seeing that competitive spirit?
02:07 Or do you find a bit of a reckless at times?
02:09 >> No, I mean, everything needs to be in control.
02:11 I mean, I want, you always talk about emotion.
02:14 I like having an emotional team.
02:17 And also, I'm an emotional coach.
02:19 But it's controlled emotion.
02:20 It's making sure that everything is pushing towards the ultimate goal.
02:24 Now, if anybody can go out there and be a loose cannon and
02:29 get nothing done, cuz it's a waste of time.
02:30 But it's about making sure help guys grow in the situation.
02:34 And I try to make them uncomfortable every day.
02:36 I wanna see what's the tipping point where I can get maybe a response to be able to
02:41 help educate them on what we need to do in the moment.
02:44 >> Will you watch the playoff reveal?
02:47 Will you have somebody tell you about it?
02:50 >> No, I mean, probably not gonna watch it,
02:52 despite the timing of what we have game plan wise.
02:54 But I mean, if I'm done, I'm not against understanding what's out there.
03:00 But like I said on Monday, it's, hey.
03:05 >> Would it be like, I mean, there's certain things I don't wanna know about,
03:09 because I feel like it'll distract me.
03:11 I mean, do you not wanna even know?
03:12 >> I'm not gonna get distracted.
03:12 I'm not, like I said, that's a part of it.
03:16 Like, we have a purpose, we have a mission, we have something.
03:20 And A to no can be distracting, if you allow it to be distracting.
03:26 Anything, good, bad, when we were 0 and 4 a few years back,
03:34 that could have been very distracting.
03:36 It's about what you're willing to do and
03:37 what you're willing to invest to get to where you wanna go.
03:40 And do I want people nationally to recognize our program and
03:49 the great players I get to coach?
03:51 Absolutely.
03:52 And I think it's wonderful when people are talking good about Florida State.
03:54 They should.
03:55 We got a really good team.
03:56 We got guys that played at a high level.
03:58 We played perfect.
03:59 No, do we have a lot of areas to improve in?
04:01 Yes, but don't tell me anything.
04:04 I don't want people talking about Florida State, cuz they're going to.
04:07 And that's why the way that we do things,
04:10 we wanna make sure we're representing the program the way it deserves to be
04:12 represented.
04:13 We're competing to get better.
04:15 And that's something that people wanna be a part of.
04:18 When you guys do get dumped out of the rankings,
04:19 does that mean something to stress the team at all?
04:21 Or is this gonna be- >> I haven't talked about that at all,
04:25 at any point.
04:26 And it's not, they know.
04:28 It's like we said yesterday, I mean, whatever that was, Saturday.
04:31 I mean, it's like, guys will know.
04:33 Cuz every time you watch any sports, you got a ticker that goes across and
04:38 says a number next to your name.
04:39 But I really do mean that that number doesn't define us.
04:42 And sometimes good, sometimes bad.
04:44 And it's just, we gotta go get better.
04:47 >> It's a long way away, but the opportunity to play in Dallas next year.
04:50 I don't know if you're from there.
04:52 I don't know if you remember that or not.
04:54 And also, you got a lot of Texas guys on the team, too.
04:57 I mean, does that mean anything?
04:58 Or can you even think about that at this point?
04:59 >> I mean- >> Not one minute.
05:01 >> I'm excited that there's opportunities ahead.
05:05 >> [LAUGH] >> No, I mean,
05:07 I've said ACC released a schedule yesterday, kind of homing away.
05:12 And Dallas and Dublin.
05:16 I know that, so we rolling.
05:19 So I'm sure once we get to that point, I'll have a better insight about it.
05:22 But it's good.
05:23 I mean, Texas has been really good for us in recruiting.
05:27 We got some really good players, I think have huge potential.
05:30 And I like those direct flights from Dallas.
05:33 And it's been.
05:37 >> You used to coach at Pitt back in 2011.
05:39 Does it mean anything getting back there, like it's your first time?
05:43 >> I mean, it was a very short time that I was there, but I did.
05:47 I enjoyed the city.
05:48 I mean, it's a good place and good people.
05:53 And a lot of people have welcomed us well.
05:57 I mean, it was a short-lived trip.
05:59 But I did, I absolutely enjoyed my time when I was there.
06:03 And opportunity for me to be employed went somewhere else.
06:07 So I went to the opportunity to be employed.
06:10 >> When you go there, obviously, it's Thursday night.
06:12 Is there anything you're looking for
06:13 us to do when you get to a field being set up and how it's gonna look?
06:17 >> No, I mean, we understand it's a different surface.
06:20 It's one that gets a heavy wear on it.
06:26 That is one of the things of working there and
06:28 being there in the month of November, kind of a little bit of what to expect.
06:32 So I mean, we're doing all things that we can.
06:36 Just make sure to prepare our guys for understanding what that will be and
06:40 the things we need to do.
06:41 But control the controls.
06:44 >> Coach Fuller yesterday said one of the tricky things of playing in a pro
06:47 stadium is that the splits for the defense, do they not repaint the hash marks?
06:52 >> They do, so they have the pro numbers, but then on the outside,
06:56 when you have both, I mean, you have two different sets of it.
07:01 But the outside numbers are indicated by
07:05 basically two lines of what top and bottom the numbers are to get the hashes.
07:09 I mean, all things that are a little different.
07:11 So you just gotta be aware, but those are the things to look at for game day.
07:18 We had the same thing when we went to New Orleans last year.
07:22 And so we're accustomed to it.
07:23 Some of the young guys, we'll have to walk them out there.
07:27 But we've already been talking about it throughout the course of the week.
07:30 >> The defense has done a much better job the last four games of not giving up
07:33 the big plays.
07:35 Is that what's just, anything you guys changed, or
07:40 is it just guys understanding what they're doing?
07:41 >> No, I mean, I think we've eliminated some of the mistakes that showed up that
07:47 allowed your open receivers or maybe a busted coverage.
07:52 And we've limited that.
07:54 There was still a couple plays the other day that we can be better.
07:57 And I think our guys are playing well together.
08:00 I think it's still every week's its own challenge.
08:04 But I mean, they understand what we're trying to take away and
08:07 doing a good job at it.
08:09 >> Where are the Norvels giving away for Halloween tonight?
08:13 >> I know there is a big, what do they call it?
08:18 Like a hollow, what is it?
08:19 Pumpkin?
08:20 >> Jack-o-lantern.
08:22 >> Yeah, filled with candy somewhere, but I don't know.
08:26 It's Maria's.
08:27 She's not.
