00:00 That's not who I was before and it certainly isn't who I am now.
00:03 And if I could take it all back, I obviously would take it all back.
00:09 Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:11 And today we're examining our picks for infamous moments when rude and entitled
00:15 folks' apologies only made things worse.
00:18 In sincerity or variations on "I'm sorry if you're offended," don't hack it, Karen.
00:25 I just wanted to say that I am sorry from the bottom of my heart.
00:29 Using all the slurs.
00:32 Starting out on YouTube and then TikTok in 2019, Isabella Avala, under the name
00:38 "Only J Us," became very popular with psychology videos touching
00:43 on subjects like lucid dreams.
00:45 If somebody's feet are pointed towards you in a conversation, that means that
00:48 they're interested and content in the conversation.
00:50 But in 2021, leaked messages from Avala came out that contained racist and
00:56 homophobic slurs, followed by accusations that Avala ghosted Black creators.
01:01 Some 450,000 people signed a petition to have Avala removed from TikTok.
01:06 Avala responded with an apology video, which was criticized for
01:10 being scripted and disingenuous.
01:13 In it, Avala promised to promote Black creators.
01:16 When I first saw the screenshots, I didn't even think that they were real
01:20 because I forgot how hateful and how angry of a person I used to be.
01:25 And it hurts my soul.
01:26 However, a couple of months later, TikTokers like @antkarenzero claimed
01:31 Avala didn't stick to the promise and ghosted her.
01:34 How many times do you expect me to message you waiting on
01:38 you to continuously ghost me?
01:40 Robin.
01:41 You gotta love it when an apology comes with a bad excuse
01:45 for their terrible behavior.
01:46 In 2020, hairstylist Sharon Spellman was about to pass her client Robin
01:51 onto her assistant Alex for the next phase in her hair treatments.
01:55 You want to leave?
01:56 I will if you don't get my hair.
01:58 Well, Robin, who had previously made disrespectful comments about
02:02 Hispanic people, didn't want Alex, who is Hispanic.
02:06 Spellman tried to reason with her client, but Robin got angry
02:09 and tried to hit the hairdresser.
02:11 Robin, get out.
02:12 Robin, do not cause a scene in my business.
02:14 Immediately, Spellman told her to leave.
02:16 Robin offered a lame apology, claiming she has a lot of stress and a lot
02:21 of pressure from her daughter, as if that justifies hitting people.
02:24 And they have a lot of pressure.
02:27 Of course, this didn't work and Robin was removed.
02:34 Disrespecting the lost.
02:36 Given the often terrible history between the British and the Irish,
02:40 anyone filling the UK government position of secretary of state
02:43 for Northern Ireland needs both sensitivity and a thorough grasp of the facts.
02:48 Instead, Theresa May appointed Karen Bradley in 2019 when discussing
02:52 the troubles, a decades long conflict in Ireland.
02:55 She stated that slayings made by the police and British
02:59 army at the time weren't crimes.
03:01 They were people acting under orders and under instruction and fulfilling
03:04 their duties in a dignified and appropriate way.
03:07 People in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland
03:10 were livid at the comments.
03:12 While Bradley apologized on TV, relatives of those who lost their lives
03:17 stated it was too little too late.
03:19 So I said something wrong and I have apologized and now
03:22 I want to get on and deliver.
03:24 There were also calls for her to resign.
03:26 While Bradley didn't, she lost her job during a reshuffle shortly after.
03:30 I said something I shouldn't have said.
03:33 I fully accept that I shouldn't have said it.
03:35 It was wrong and I've apologized.
03:37 Yeah.
03:37 And you've said that you've made that very clear.
03:39 Not gleeful.
03:40 There were days when the sun was so cool.
03:46 It all started with a 2020 social media post supporting hashtag
03:51 Black Lives Matter by actor and singer Leah Michelle.
03:54 This sparked her Glee co-star Samantha Marie Ware to accuse her of
03:58 terrible behavior on the set of the TV show, including racism.
04:02 Other former colleagues such as Heather Morris and Alex Newell also
04:06 came forward to criticize Michelle's hostile attitude.
04:08 In response, she made a public apology on social media.
04:12 However, Ware felt that it came across as an empty apology in which
04:16 the actress didn't accept any responsibility.
04:18 Even a year later, the Glee cast continued speaking about
04:21 Michelle's toxic behavior on set.
04:24 Fallen footballer.
04:25 At one point, Mason Greenwood was seen as the potential leading light
04:30 for Manchester United and the English football team.
04:33 But then in 2022, his partner released horrific evidence online of his
04:38 abuse, including an incriminating voice recording.
04:41 The police confirmed he was arrested and officers were seen at his home.
04:46 While Greenwood was arrested, the case was later dropped as key
04:49 witnesses withdrew and the prosecution didn't have strong
04:52 enough evidence for conviction.
04:53 In August 2023, after United and Greenwood agreed to part ways in
04:59 his statement, instead of apologizing, Greenwood tried gaslighting
05:02 people by claiming he was cleared of all charges.
05:05 I was cleared of all charges.
05:07 However, I accept I made mistakes in my relationship and I take share
05:12 of responsibility for the situations.
05:15 That wasn't the case and it angered people further.
05:18 Since then, Greenwood has been loaned to Spanish side Getafe.
05:21 Getafe have confirmed this evening it's a season long loan.
05:26 Real estate racism.
05:28 In 2020, Sandeep Kumar and Ritu Devi Sharma left their
05:33 property in Perth, Australia.
05:35 Instead of getting their bond back, real estate company Marvin Real
05:38 Estate took a portion of it for cleaning fees.
05:41 This caused a dispute for several months between the parties.
05:44 In 2021, the director of the company, Ranwin Palit, sent a racist,
05:49 passive-aggressive email to the pair in which he slated Indian
05:53 culture and called the country filth.
05:56 A few weeks later, Palit sent an apology email to Kumar and Sharma
06:00 stating the infamous non-apology phrase, "I apologize if you believe
06:05 I have been racist against you" and claiming it wasn't her intent.
06:09 In 2023, Palit had her real estate license suspended by a tribunal
06:14 for eight months.
06:15 Ukulele Apology.
06:17 It's not every day that an apology for one terrible accusation
06:20 opens up a can of worms for other grim incidents.
06:24 But then again, not everyone is Colleen Ballinger.
06:27 In 2023, after allegations of her being inappropriate with a young
06:32 fan came out, the Miranda Sings performer released a bonkers
06:35 apology video while she played the ukulele.
06:38 I'm not a groomer.
06:39 I'm just a loser who didn't understand I shouldn't respond to
06:43 fans.
06:44 Unsurprisingly, the apology fell very, very flat as it was heavily
06:49 condemned for being unserious.
06:51 Soon after, historical clips of Ballinger's work resurfaced.
06:55 In one, she did a distasteful racist parody of Psy's "Gangnam Style"
06:59 where she mumbles Asian words.
07:01 Whoop on Gangnam Style.
07:03 Gangnam Style.
07:06 Whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop.
07:08 Whoop on Gangnam Style.
07:10 In another, Ballinger, while cosplaying as Elphaba from Wicked,
07:14 wore dark green face paint and performed Beyonce's "Single Ladies"
07:18 on stage.
07:18 Yikes.
07:19 What do I know?
07:20 Buzz Lightyear says a slur.
07:23 And there seems to be no sign of intelligent life anywhere.
07:27 It's weird how so many comedians who criticize political correctness
07:30 in the medium seem determined to use slurs without repercussions.
07:34 In a 2013 interview with the Tampa Bay Times, Tim Allen talked
07:38 about how he's not racist, so it shouldn't matter if he uses one
07:42 particular slur and that euphemisms for the word are worse.
07:46 Allen then used said slur multiple times throughout.
07:49 He claimed being called the word by black people but not being
07:52 allowed to say it later is confusing to the European mind.
07:56 Yikes.
07:57 When the backlash mounted, Allen put out a brief non-apology
08:01 saying if anyone was offended, it wasn't his intention.
08:04 Even years later, Allen's view and apology are still being denounced.
08:08 This is a thought police thing and I do not like it.
08:10 Home Depot Karen.
08:12 Most explanation videos after a controversial incident tend to
08:16 delve into the reasoning behind their actions or an apology for what transpired.
08:20 I just got kicked out of the Home Depot.
08:24 The Home Depot.
08:26 But not Amanda Marie Keschner, who goes by Art Van Grow online.
08:30 In 2022, the self-described influencer told her story after a
08:35 confrontation with Home Depot staff.
08:38 In her video, she freely divulges that she used racial and homophobic
08:41 slurs at staff, telling them to go back to their own country before
08:45 they kicked her out of the store.
08:47 I said, I'm not leaving.
08:48 Call the cops.
08:48 I've done nothing wrong.
08:49 I'm trying to buy something.
08:50 And he's like, I'm not discounting anything.
08:51 I'm not selling anything.
08:52 Get out of my store.
08:53 When the backlash rolled in for Keschner, she attacked the criticism.
08:57 She released several videos, often giving sarcastic apologies and
09:01 being aggressive with those who were offended by her actions.
09:04 It was bonkers.
09:05 And I really hope that one day you can find in your heart to forgive me.

09:23 Pier 1 Coffer.
09:27 When the pandemic was frightening everyone, Karen stepped up to
09:30 the plate to make things worse.
09:32 In 2020 at a Pier 1 store in Jacksonville, Florida, Debra
09:36 Hunter was verbally berating staff.
09:38 When she saw she was being recorded by another customer, Heather Sprague,
09:42 she flipped the bird and coughed in the face of Sprague, a cancer patient.
09:47 I think I'll get real close to you and cough on you then.
09:49 How's that?
09:50 Hunter was arrested soon after.
09:52 During her sentencing, she handed in a letter to the judge
09:55 and gave a virtual testimony.
09:56 In both, Hunter focused on how the situation had affected her and her
10:00 family, barely apologizing to Sprague.
10:03 For Ms.
10:04 Sprague, you know, she was the recipient of that.
10:07 And for that, I apologize.
10:09 And I believe that she knows that.
10:10 After being heavily criticized by the judge for this, Hunter was
10:14 sentenced to 30 days in jail, an anger management course, six months
10:17 of probation and fine $500.
10:20 Judge Ruth sentenced Debra Hunter to 30 days in the Duval County
10:23 jail and six months of probation.
10:25 Have you ever had to apologize for something and it fell flat?
10:29 Let us know below.
10:30 I know I should have.
10:32 I'm sorry.
