It will feel more like early September than later October across the Northeast into Saturday, but some of the coldest air so far this season lurks on the horizon.
Transcript
00:00 Some good news, some bad news,
00:01 and I'd say a little something for
00:03 everybody in the Northeast as we
00:05 look through the next week.
00:06 Let's start with the here and now on
00:08 satellite and radar, even you notice
00:10 that we do have some showers still
00:11 across upstate New York, the I-90
00:13 corridor for example, and as you're
00:15 heading back toward the PA Turnpike,
00:16 couple of showers around.
00:17 If you're heading out to,
00:18 let's say Allentown or even into the Poconos,
00:20 but you'll notice if you look closely
00:22 at the satellite and radar loop that
00:24 we're chewing away a little bit
00:25 at the clouds and at the rain.
00:27 That's because high pressure is
00:28 largely in charge of the Northeast,
00:30 and we are going to see more in the way
00:32 of heat and sunshine into the afternoon.
00:34 On that note,
00:35 let's talk temperatures here.
00:36 The 95 corridor looking warm and
00:38 sunny for most of your day,
00:40 especially for this time of year.
00:42 It's more like early September.
00:43 Kind of weather Boston 78 and sunny 6076.
00:46 I should say in New York 79 in Philadelphia
00:48 and 83 in Washington DC.
00:50 In fact,
00:51 we could actually set some high
00:53 temperature records or at least tie
00:55 a few across the state.
00:56 Mid Atlantic and Ohio Valley today
00:58 from Baltimore to Philly,
01:00 Wilmington to Glens Falls,
01:01 NY all the way back to Manchester,
01:04 NH.
01:04 You know,
01:05 I find Manchester particularly
01:06 interesting here because we would
01:08 absolutely blow past the old record
01:10 of 74 degrees that was set back in
01:13 1971 with a high temperature today.
01:15 Forecast at 80 degrees in your
01:17 Accuweather exclusive forecast.
01:18 We keep those temperatures
01:19 rolling into tomorrow.
01:20 It's a warm day in Harrisburg
01:22 in Williamsport,
01:23 Islip, Manchester,
01:23 again,
01:23 a few showers and thunderstorms
01:25 in Williamsport,
01:25 Islip, Manchester again,
01:26 and Bridgeport, Connecticut in the 70s.
01:28 The whole way through.
01:29 Now I will say this much.
01:31 The 95 corridor has a pretty nice
01:34 Saturday to get outside and enjoy,
01:36 but we have a cold front on the way
01:38 and we have a massive change across
01:40 this part of the country.
01:42 A big weather pattern change
01:44 and it all starts right here.
01:46 This front will drive some showers
01:47 here from Columbus to Pittsburgh.
01:49 Back up toward Erie into Saratoga Springs,
01:51 Burlington for example,
01:52 and even as you're getting up
01:54 into the boundary mountains.
01:55 Of Maine toward Caribou,
01:56 it's going to be a little wet here and there.
01:59 Not a total washout,
02:00 but something to pay attention to.
02:01 Perhaps have the umbrella if you're going.
02:03 Maybe trick or treating a
02:05 little early for example.
02:06 Again, 95 really gets rid of the
02:07 rain on Saturday or at least
02:09 doesn't get into it yet.
02:10 But Sunday the front drops South
02:12 and here comes the showers back
02:14 into New York for the 8th straight
02:16 weekend of at least one day of wet weather.
02:18 New Yorkers,
02:18 please don't shoot the messenger.
02:20 I can only tell you what the weather is.
02:22 I can't change it for you.
02:24 I love my pay grade.
02:25 Alright,
02:25 we do have showers back in New York
02:27 and Boston and even out toward the
02:29 Poconos heading into our Poughkeepsie
02:31 and some heavier steadier rain back
02:32 toward upstate New York if you live
02:34 in let's say Buffalo or Rochester.
02:36 Now it's not just the rain that we're
02:38 watching this front introduces a
02:40 massive cold stretch here.
02:41 Look how we dropped to the
02:42 60s in Pittsburgh on Sunday.
02:44 But then Holy cow, here we go again.
02:46 Monday, Tuesday we're in the 40s.
02:48 That's not just in Pittsburgh.
02:49 We have a big dip in the jet
02:51 stream following this front,
02:52 and that's going to essentially.
02:54 Open the door from Canada to
02:55 let the cold back into the US.
02:57 It's really like we're throwing
02:58 the door off the hinges here
03:00 because there's so much cold air,
03:01 not just in the Northeast,
03:03 but back into the Midwest as well.
03:05 High temperatures will be 5 to 15
03:06 degrees below where they should
03:08 be this time of year,
03:09 and the cold won't go unaccompanied
03:11 with this system with this area
03:12 of low pressure.
03:13 We have the potential to see some lake
03:15 effects snow it'll be just cold enough,
03:17 but if this trough,
03:19 if this big dip in the jet decides to dig,
03:21 decides to really build, well, guess what?
03:23 This could become a lot more robust.
03:25 We could see some more accumulating
03:27 snowfall and even soaking rain as we
03:29 go from Tuesday into Wednesday of
03:31 this coming week we're going to keep
03:33 a very close eye on the storm.
03:35 Just a quick reminder as we look at
03:37 your seven day forecast here in Boston
03:39 that even with the precipitation will
03:41 see at the beginning of the week.
03:43 I really want to tell you about
03:44 the temperatures where we go from
03:46 that 70s stretch back to the 40s
03:48 and 50s later next week.
03:49 Stay warm.
