Detroit Lions Jahmyr Gibbs took a step forward with a solid performance against Baltimore Ravens.

00:00 Given more of a lead role, running back Jameer Gibbs had a decent performance
00:04 against the Baltimore Ravens in a loss. Here today to discuss the rookie's performance
00:08 is SI All-Line senior writer Vito Circo. Vito, I'm curious, what did you make of Jameer Gibbs
00:13 being a replacement for David Montgomery, being the lead back for the Lions offense?
00:18 He recorded 100 plus multipurpose yards. So you got to be excited about that from the
00:22 rookie running back who really hadn't emerged up until this week against the Ravens. And now we
00:28 know it was a blowout. The Ravens were in control of the game all throughout, obviously, too, and
00:32 in the first half. It was already over at halftime. We know that much as well, John. But to see Gibbs
00:37 shine a little bit there in the end of the game in the fourth quarter, come to life,
00:42 record 60 at rushing yards, his very first career NFL rushing TD as well, and then all the yards
00:47 that he attained as a receiver too, showcasing his versatile ability as both a runner and a pass
00:54 catcher, John. And here's a guy that really lit it up at Bama, lit it up at Georgia Tech,
00:59 showcased that versatility to be a dual threat back, a guy that could be really elusive out of
01:03 the backfield as a runner, but also as a pass catcher in the open field, making guys miss
01:08 because of his elusiveness, because of his speed, his agility, athleticism, you name it. This guy
01:14 has it. And now moving forward, you just hope, John, that this game here, this week's loss to
01:20 the Ravens for Gibbs, a good performance, is the start of a bunch of good performances for the
01:27 rookie back. And the Lions will need it, obviously, too, as long as David Montgomery, the Lions lead
01:32 back, is out due to injury. So Gibbs has to step up even more in a big way moving forward. And he'll
01:38 play a pivotal role for this team offensively as it tries to bounce back, obviously now against the
01:44 Raiders on Monday night. And we'll see if Gibbs then, once he hits the bye, and then after the bye,
01:50 if he once again continues to make progress in his rookie season. So for me, looking at Gibbs,
01:56 John, and what he did, got to be very pleased with this performance, because once again,
02:01 it was an all-around solid performance, even though Gibbs really didn't, didn't really shine
02:06 the fullest until the fourth quarter, when it was considered garbage time, and truly was for the
02:11 lives in that blowout loss to the Ravens.
