00:00 >> You said on Monday that no one wants the team to have success more than Bucky.
00:04 What makes him who he is and so much success for everybody?
00:10 >> Well, I just think his perspective on life and his passion for
00:13 the game of football is special.
00:16 And he really cares for the guys around him in the locker room.
00:19 He makes a point to be close with everybody.
00:22 He makes a point to go out of his way and speak and hang out with all of us.
00:27 And he's just a special teammate.
00:28 He's fun to be around.
00:29 He's a great locker room guy.
00:31 He's a great teammate.
00:33 And then when you put him on the field, not only is he a great player, but
00:37 he's a great leader as well.
00:38 >> You look at yourself being kind of, probably sees him sometimes.
00:43 What are some things he does that you may- >> Yeah, he shocks me all the time.
00:47 We joke all the time that I still see new things out of him
00:55 every day, almost all the time.
00:58 And we just have a really special bond.
01:01 It's cool to be with him for a second year and to really see him grow and
01:06 develop in an offseason, cuz we all forget he's still young too.
01:10 So I still got a lot of football ahead of him.
01:13 >> Going back to last year's game,
01:14 just how messed up was your ankle going into that one?
01:18 And winning that, winning it the way you did with the run at the very end,
01:22 you couldn't run all night.
01:24 What did that game mean and just how messed up were you?
01:26 >> Well, that game meant a lot, not only to me, but the entire team.
01:30 That was a true team win.
01:31 It took all of us.
01:35 I think the defense is who contributed the most last year.
01:39 They did a great job stopping the run and creating turnovers last year.
01:43 And they really helped us out offensively.
01:45 We were quite limited and I was banged up, but we found a way to win the game.
01:52 I think good teams do that.
01:53 >> Is this team good, I mean, Gammonstock and
01:55 Hubbard's back for their pass rush.
01:57 Did they show you a lot of different things pre-snap or
01:58 is that something you have to focus on or
02:00 is it just their talent that makes them so dynamic in that way?
02:03 >> Well, they do a little bit of both.
02:04 They have really good players and
02:06 then they also do a good job on defense, creating pressure.
02:09 And so we do have to get our eyes up and be conscious of that and
02:13 do a good job getting the ball out.
02:15 >> Let me see from Focke and Fisher, let's see if they're fast.
02:18 >> Yeah, they do a good job.
02:19 They're just, I think, very smart, instinctual players that are all over
02:23 the field, they can do a lot of different things.
02:25 And so because they can play so many different areas and
02:28 play in space that they're kind of all over the field and they show up on tape a lot.
02:32 They do a good job making tackles, stopping the run, and then also covering guys.
02:37 They're just all over the film and making plays, kind of all over the place.
02:42 >> We haven't asked you about Jackson a whole lot this year,
02:44 just because his transition seems to have been so serious.
02:46 What's led him to do that?
02:47 Obviously, he's getting a lot of national attention in this place.
02:49 >> Well, he's really, himself, he's really smart and knowledgeable of the game.
02:55 And he has great instincts, he plays extremely hard.
02:59 He plays with extreme effort.
03:02 And I think that one of the things that he does is he provides an elite
03:08 grit and tenacity up front, kind of that nasty O'Leiman that
03:16 every team would love to have.
03:17 And then he takes command of the line.
03:20 He does a good job of communicating, and he's really helped us in that spot this year.
03:24 >> How much has that helped other veteran guys, but
03:27 especially Steven Jones, a right guard like a Washington bird?
03:29 You were talking to him as much as you were talking to the guys.
03:30 >> Yeah, yeah, so we have a lot of experience.
03:33 Even though Josh is the youngest, Josh has played in quite a few games,
03:37 big important games.
03:38 And Josh is talented, extremely talented in his own right.
03:42 So he hangs in there as well as all of us.
03:45 And so it's good to have the experience.
03:48 It's good that the guards have played a lot of football, and
03:50 then Johnny's played a lot himself.
03:52 So we have a very experienced team, and
03:55 I think this year we've just shown that we can play together really well.
03:58 >> Ellis has been an impactor for them.
04:00 How important is it to kind of know where he is, and
04:02 if he comes on and off the field?
04:04 >> Well, it's good.
04:05 I just think we gotta execute and just handle all 11 of them.
04:10 I think they all can be disruptive if we let them.
04:12 And we just gotta do a good job in the run game, and
04:14 then get the passing game going.
04:16 >> Talk about how if a team tries to take away Troy and double him, it opens up
04:19 others and vice versa.
04:21 How excited do you get when a team goes single high and just what that means?
04:25 >> Yeah, well, that's good for matchups.
04:29 If they wanna go single high, they're usually loading the box and
04:31 wanting you to throw the ball.
04:32 So our matchups do have to show up.
04:35 We gotta find winners and put guys in spots to become winners.
04:39 >> I was being talked about an issue ago about sideline signals and
04:43 what's going on elsewhere.
04:45 If you had in-home communication like you'll have at the next level,
04:48 what would that do to you?
04:49 What would that mean for you in terms of, how much does that help?
04:52 How much does that coach or OC in your ear the whole time?
04:57 >> I don't know to tell you the truth cuz I've never had it high school or college.
05:01 So I'm sure it's an adjustment.
05:03 But regardless of, I guess what you get, you still probably gotta go out there.
05:08 And there's still a lot on you to perform and go out there.
05:11 And I guess they can't make the throws and run for you.
05:14 So I think it provides different pros and cons that you can worry with.
05:22 But at the same time, with signals and communication,
05:25 those provide pros and cons too.
05:28 So whichever way you choose, it's gonna be beneficial and
05:33 then have some negatives.
05:35 >> How meaningful are these touchdowns to Tez?
05:39 >> Well, not only just with the brother element, they're special.
05:45 But I just, knowing how he works and knowing how much it means to him,
05:49 and that's really special.
05:51 But I think it's special when all those guys get touchdowns.
05:56 Cuz I think it's rewarding seeing how hard those guys work and
06:00 seeing them practice running constantly and blocking constantly.
06:04 And to get a reward like a touchdown, it's really cool.
06:07 Cuz it's beneficial, it's rewarding, and it pays off all your hard work.
06:14 So, but yeah, it is special to see him play well.
06:17 He's obviously, he also has a lot to improve on like we all do.
06:22 We're just gonna continue to get better and
06:23 better so that we can score more touchdowns as a group.
