Oregon's tight ends are led by a group of veterans with exciting young talent behind them.

00:00 Rolling right along with the tight ends
00:02 This group is one that I think is a little bit easier to talk about because we have two very known commodities at the top
00:09 And Terrence Ferguson and Patrick Herbert who returned for their final years of college football
00:14 Ducks did lose Casey Kelly to the transfer portal
00:17 He is now at East Carolina, but I don't really think that's a huge loss because he didn't do a whole lot while he was at
00:23 Oregon
00:25 but they also have Kenyon Sadiq who enters his second year with the Ducks and they signed a pair of true freshmen in Roger
00:32 Sally Apaga and AJ Pugliano
00:34 So I think kind of like I said, you know
00:36 You know what you have in T Ferg and Patrick Herbert who has now logged two healthy seasons. So that's awesome news for him now
00:44 I think it's a question of what kind of a leap can Kenyon Sadiq take because he seems like a really special
00:50 athlete in that room and I love seeing the special ways that Will Stein got him involved even in the limited snaps that he got
00:56 as a true freshman, I
00:58 always do love when you have
01:00 Several a stat like veteran tight ends and then you can kind of work in like that talented guy with them
01:06 I you you can go back and look at some of more of
01:08 organs or some of organs more talented tight end rooms like even in like 2014 when they had like Johnny Munt, Evan Bayliss
01:16 and Farrell Brown all together like man like just a deal to kind of have that triple threat there and
01:21 It's so nice for them to be able to return Terrence Ferguson and just have that like known commodity
01:27 I mean like, you know, this guy's gonna probably catch about 50 balls
01:30 He's probably gonna go about for 500 yards when it's all said and done
01:32 He's probably gonna be one of the better organ tight ends of all time. And I think he's done it very quietly
01:37 You know, he's there's been a lot of talented guys around him and he just kind of goes about his business
01:42 But he's been productive since he got here
01:45 And then to mix it's been so nice to see a healthy Patrick Herbert, you know
01:50 He's not the guy that's gonna go out and you know necessarily dazzle but like that kids a freak
01:54 He's kind of been a physical freak since like even though he was in high school
01:57 I remember watching some of his Sheldon games and watching that body style play against a Oregon high school competition
02:03 It just wasn't all that fair. So I think that's an awfully good one-two combo
02:07 Let's see what like Sadiq can can add to that group. But yeah, just a very veteran
02:13 Talented group for the Ducks at tight end there. No doubt. No doubt. Well if we're talking about Patrick Herbert
02:19 Let me just share this gem of a play
02:21 For those watching on YouTube against wazoo. We got Bucky Irving out of the backfield and then Patrick Herbert just de cleats a guy
02:28 Maybe he wasn't completely looking but still some style points there
02:32 In in route to a win for the Ducks the the thing I love about Patrick too is you know?
02:38 Anytime you were standing around Justin, you know the Hatfield Allen conflicts
02:42 You're just like man
02:43 This guy is huge like like thank God this guy plays quarterback because he could really hurt some people and then you see Patrick and
02:50 It's just basically Justin playing or you know a non quarterback position and you know
02:54 You kind of see the physics results there when he's when he's thrown his shoulders around
02:57 And for a guy who comes in and I can't even I don't even know how many times he was asked about his brother
03:03 And the year that Justin was coming out
03:05 I think it's been great to see him really be able to kind of blaze his own trail and just show like you were talking
03:11 But hey, I can do this football thing to the the hardest thing I think for him had to have been
03:17 You know Justin was at his most famous kind of when?
03:20 Patrick was either a redshirt or a redshirt freshman and
03:25 Yeah, Justin was really good from like the get-go as like a prodigy quarterback
03:30 He might end up being in the Hall of Fame like other players take time to develop
03:33 And so I think there was a lot of like why isn't Patrick, you know this good right now?
03:38 You know, why isn't Patrick as good as Justin and you know, so it was very easy to just do the you're Justin's little brother thing
03:45 And you know, we kind of went through that a little bit too with the Mariotas at work
03:49 and you know Matt Mariota didn't end up playing a whole lot for the Ducks and
03:52 And so I thought it was unfair
03:55 That Patrick kind of got thrown into that on occasion and now that you've seen as he's gotten healthy and as he's gotten reps and as
04:02 He's gotten confidence and as he's kind of really, you know found himself within that position
04:06 Like he's gonna be pretty darn good this year. I got like he's a very solid addition to a front-running Big Ten football team
04:13 My guy to watch in this room is true freshman Roger Sally Apaga who comes to Oregon from the state of Utah
04:21 Oram High School where the Ducks found Noah Sewell and I don't necessarily think he's gonna play a whole lot right away
04:26 But I think he was used in a lot of similar ways to Terrence Ferguson coming out of high school
04:30 Which is kind of a jumbo wide receiver tight end hybrid super athletic able to make some big plays
04:36 and it's hard to bring down.
04:37 So definitely keep an eye on Rogers Haleapaga at tight end.
