00:00:00 Now, how about them damn Celtics?
00:00:10 And we are back with another episode of How 'Bout Them Celtics, Sam and I are here recording
00:00:14 on Saturday, October 21st, right around the corner from the Celtics.
00:00:18 But it would be an injustice to the podcast if we didn't start the episode with Spider-Man.
00:00:24 Because this is, I know that this has been like, this is the most wonderful time of the
00:00:30 year for you.
00:00:31 The game finally came out two days ago, and you told me you have already finished the
00:00:35 game, correct?
00:00:36 I have finished the story, yes.
00:00:39 Right before Jack texted me saying he was ready to record today, I finished.
00:00:44 It's really weird to finish this, because it's like when you finish a TV show and you're
00:00:50 like, "Oh wow, I have no purpose."
00:00:54 That's how I feel.
00:00:56 So it was a really fun process, which I'll probably talk about a little later in the
00:01:02 show.
00:01:05 But I thoroughly enjoyed the game, what I've played of it.
00:01:10 There's still side stuff that I'm going to do after I finish this with Jack.
00:01:16 I got a great deal of enjoyment out of it.
00:01:19 I think the fighting's hard as fuck.
00:01:21 Good luck with that if you're going to play this game.
00:01:23 Good luck fighting.
00:01:26 But yeah, I mean the swinging and stuff is a lot of fun.
00:01:29 You got a lot of suits.
00:01:32 I'm a big suit guy, even though you pick one suit and stick with it.
00:01:36 You just like the options.
00:01:37 Yeah, you like the options.
00:01:39 You're like, "Okay, they thought of this, they thought of that."
00:01:44 What suit did you go with?
00:01:45 Really cool stuff.
00:01:46 What suit?
00:01:47 What did yours look like?
00:01:48 Well, I liked the original suit.
00:01:49 Like this one.
00:01:50 Okay.
00:01:51 So, they have this again.
00:01:52 No, they have like a bunch of versions of the red and blue suit.
00:01:57 I didn't know there was more than one version.
00:01:59 Well, they have like the games version, they have this movie, they have the new movies,
00:02:06 they have the middle movies.
00:02:08 They all look different.
00:02:10 There's differences to them.
00:02:13 It's like if you took different jerseys from NBA teams throughout the years.
00:02:18 Let's just say the Clippers, because they've had very similar jerseys over the years, but
00:02:23 they are ever so slightly different.
00:02:25 Sure.
00:02:26 Okay, I get it.
00:02:27 That makes sense.
00:02:28 But then there are suits that are completely different.
00:02:29 Like colors and stuff.
00:02:30 Yeah, colors.
00:02:31 They have each suit has like four different colors you can have it in.
00:02:36 Okay.
00:02:38 There's a lot.
00:02:39 There's a lot.
00:02:40 I tell you, once you get a little bit of time, you play the first game, you're kind of going
00:02:43 to get what I'm getting.
00:02:45 Okay.
00:02:46 Okay.
00:02:47 I'll wait to get it.
00:02:48 I'm sure we'll talk more Spider-Man throughout the show, but let's talk a little bit of Celtics.
00:02:52 The Celtics waved DJ Stewart and Wenyan Gabriel.
00:02:56 Wenyan Gabriel is probably the more surprising one.
00:02:58 Some people thought, oh, maybe, you know, DJ Stewart could get in for a two way spot
00:03:01 because it has come out.
00:03:02 I believe Adam Himmel Spock reported, as you mentioned to me, the chase scrub is that going
00:03:05 to end up getting waved as well after he tours ACL.
00:03:08 So Celtics will now have an open two way spot as well as some flexibility at the end of
00:03:16 the roster.
00:03:17 Lamar Stevens did not get waved, so it looks like he's going to make the team.
00:03:20 But when you Gabriel's not in here, maybe because you love Lamar Stevens need that speculation.
00:03:29 Maybe when you got waved because Namiish Kata played well, by the way, got pronunciation
00:03:35 from him.
00:03:36 Bobby Manning and I were at his event in Quincy.
00:03:37 Bobby asked him, how do you pronounce your name?
00:03:39 Namiish Kata.
00:03:41 That is the name.
00:03:42 Namiish.
00:03:43 There's a shh.
00:03:44 Namiish.
00:03:45 Namiish.
00:03:46 Yeah, so straight from his mouth.
00:03:48 No questions anymore.
00:03:49 It's Namiish.
00:03:50 All right.
00:03:51 But he looks good.
00:03:53 Any surprises?
00:03:54 I mean, DJ Stewart's also surprised thoughts on when we kind of speculated this after we
00:03:58 saw the way things weird because over the past season in a couple of seasons, he's actually
00:04:05 like logged NBA minutes like he was a rotation piece of the Lakers last year and the Lakers
00:04:10 were considered by many to be one of the better teams in the league.
00:04:13 They made the West.
00:04:14 It's odd.
00:04:15 Well, they got a little bit of a nice path to get there, but it's neither here nor there.
00:04:22 They ended up watching when you get overlooked for Namiish Namiish and he earned it.
00:04:30 I mean, he looked awesome in when you Gabriel, when he was on the floor for the Celtics,
00:04:33 didn't do a whole lot.
00:04:34 He didn't do much to turn people's heads or impress.
00:04:37 Look tense, looked rushed.
00:04:39 DJ Stewart never saw any legitimate run.
00:04:42 He wasn't playing alongside rotation guys.
00:04:45 Namiish was.
00:04:46 He looked great.
00:04:47 He had a great finale against Charlotte.
00:04:51 Six of 612 points was dominant inside.
00:04:56 He was not afraid to go to the cup and finish strong.
00:04:59 That was a great thing to see.
00:05:00 I don't even know if when you played outside of garbage time, which was essentially the
00:05:04 whole second in the fourth quarter.
00:05:07 Yeah, yeah.
00:05:09 It's not very surprising that he didn't make the roster, but the more interesting part
00:05:13 is that the Celtics now have a little bit of flexibility and I compiled a list of tentative
00:05:17 options for two way contract, some of which are less realistic than others, some of which
00:05:22 as Sam is laughing now because he hasn't seen the list yet.
00:05:25 Some of which are more funny.
00:05:26 First one, Joey Hauser got by the jazz and the Clippers.
00:05:31 Bringing the housers together would be kind of funny.
00:05:33 He's pretty much the same player as his brother.
00:05:35 He's just a sniper.
00:05:36 He's a tall guy who can shoot.
00:05:38 That's about all you need.
00:05:39 Jason Preston would be Jason Preston's a guard.
00:05:43 He spent the past couple of years with the Clippers.
00:05:45 You like what he can do.
00:05:46 We like what he can do in college.
00:05:47 He wrote for fans at its best insights.
00:05:49 So one, you know, blog boy respect.
00:05:52 Appreciate it.
00:05:53 Maybe bring him in.
00:05:54 It's back to back.
00:05:55 Malik Fitz, Matt Ryan, bring one of them in.
00:05:56 Come on.
00:05:57 They both got waived.
00:05:58 They're both no longer on the roster's experience.
00:06:01 Exactly.
00:06:02 That's it.
00:06:03 Carlic Jones got waived by the Bulls.
00:06:06 Do we know who this is?
00:06:07 Carlic Jones, you will when I tell you this, just dominated the World Cup.
00:06:14 Just he was on South Sudan with winning Gabriel, I believe.
00:06:22 And he was just probably a top five, top ten player at the World Cup this summer.
00:06:27 He averaged twenty point four points, shot forty eight percent for the field.
00:06:33 Three two percent from three on five attempts a game, as well as ten point six assists a
00:06:41 game in one point six turnovers.
00:06:45 And where are the rebounds?
00:06:47 I'm just checking here.
00:06:48 I don't think I'm going to be able to see.
00:06:49 Yeah.
00:06:50 Three point six rebounds.
00:06:51 But he was like, not just good at the World Cup.
00:06:54 He was like ridiculous at the World Cup.
00:06:57 So kind of surprising to see the Bulls waive him when they probably should just keep around
00:07:00 talent at this point.
00:07:02 Carlic Jones, 25 years old.
00:07:05 He only has two years, 12 games of NBA experience, spent a lot of time in the G League, though,
00:07:10 using the Windy City Bulls this past year, averaged twenty six points, four point four
00:07:15 rebounds, seven assists, one point seven steals, forty eight percent from the field, thirty
00:07:19 six percent from deep.
00:07:21 He can play.
00:07:22 So, yeah, if they're if they're following the line of let's go with G.L.E. guys who
00:07:26 played really well, Nimi Ishketa and guys who played at the World Cup well, which was
00:07:31 probably the idea with the onion.
00:07:33 Carlic Jones, like he's right there.
00:07:35 We've talked about bringing in some extra guard help potentially if JD is not going
00:07:38 to work out just so you have extra pathways to go with moving forward.
00:07:42 Carlic Jones is there and he played really well at the World Cup, so I thought it'd be
00:07:44 interesting.
00:07:45 He sounds like an interesting prospect.
00:07:48 I think it is interesting for Chicago to be waiving him again.
00:07:51 One of those teams where I'm not convinced they should have the right to waive guys like
00:07:57 they're not really good enough to be waiving people.
00:07:59 But I think the Celtics are not in need of that, or maybe they are, because if you look
00:08:05 behind Peyton Pritchard, there isn't anybody I really want out there with the ball from
00:08:09 the guard spot like I really want J.D. Davis and playing NBA minutes.
00:08:13 D.J. Stewart is no more.
00:08:15 So if you want to fill that hole small, but as small as it may be, he's six.
00:08:20 He is also a small six foot.
00:08:21 So he's a short.
00:08:22 I mean, you could do that.
00:08:25 Why not?
00:08:26 Why not?
00:08:27 But John Butler, another name I put on this list, this is completely random.
00:08:32 We're not going to spend a lot of time on it.
00:08:33 I just remember writing about him coming out of the draft saying, like, oh, the Celtics
00:08:36 should take a flyer.
00:08:38 From what I remember, he's fairly skinny, but he is just like giant seven footer, crazy
00:08:43 wingspan blocks a lot of shots.
00:08:45 And he shot a little bit in college.
00:08:46 And I was just like, that could look cool next to Rob.
00:08:50 And so he was something I wrote about.
00:08:52 So to see him get waived, I was like, my eyes perked up at the very least.
00:08:55 He hasn't done much and he hasn't been like amazing in the G League or anything.
00:08:57 But I just remember writing about him and was like, oh, he got waived.
00:09:00 I wonder if it's something that it just just my dumb ass brain running basically in the
00:09:06 G League this past year.
00:09:07 He only played in six games and he averaged like five, like eight, four and one and three
00:09:12 point two blocks, though.
00:09:13 So he like he's a shopper.
00:09:15 Sure.
00:09:16 Just somebody Nathan Knight name you should maybe know.
00:09:21 Do you know Nathan Knight?
00:09:22 I do not know Nathan Knight.
00:09:24 You will when I explain the context.
00:09:25 Nathan Knight is low key a Celtics killer.
00:09:29 I believe it was this past season or maybe it was two years ago.
00:09:33 He was on the Timberwolves that night where they just.
00:09:36 Oh, he was.
00:09:38 And he was one of the guys that played fairly well, if I remember correctly.
00:09:41 His season high twenty twenty one twenty two season had twenty points, eleven rebounds,
00:09:46 four assists in twenty nine minutes in a five point win against the Celtics.
00:09:50 I would imagine.
00:09:51 Well, I was mad as hell.
00:09:52 Yeah.
00:09:53 I mean, one of two games he had that season, 15 points or more.
00:09:57 So if Brad is going with, OK, let's science feel a sign of a let's sign all these guys.
00:10:02 Nathan Knight would fit to Bill and he's a fine player.
00:10:04 Nathan, like he is six foot ten.
00:10:06 He's a power forward center.
00:10:09 He plays with intensity.
00:10:10 That's something we saw in that game and you've seen throughout his time there playing the
00:10:14 G League a decent amount.
00:10:16 That's a lie.
00:10:17 It's lied to your face.
00:10:18 He doesn't play in the G League a lot.
00:10:19 He hasn't played a lot.
00:10:20 I was assuming because he hasn't played in the NBA a lot, but no, he hasn't.
00:10:23 But three years in a row with Atlanta, Nathan, I think maybe he retired.
00:10:30 Hasn't been playing a lot.
00:10:31 No, he was just waived by the Knicks like today.
00:10:34 So it's not retired.
00:10:35 Maybe he retired today.
00:10:36 No, but Nathan Knight, another guy and then Scottie Pippen Jr. played for the Lakers last
00:10:41 year.
00:10:42 There isn't too much to this other than would be cool if the Celtics got him and he turned
00:10:46 into something good just to spite the Lakers.
00:10:48 That was effectively my thought process.
00:10:49 He's a six foot one guard.
00:10:51 He defends pretty well from what I know.
00:10:53 The average 21 points in the G League, 4.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.6 steals, shot 47
00:10:59 30.
00:11:00 So it's not great, but like if he panned out, he was an okay defensive guard would be cool
00:11:04 because the Lakers had him and then they lost him.
00:11:06 So that was that was my thought process.
00:11:07 Speaking of guys that the Lakers had and then lost Cole Swider, who has been very good for
00:11:12 Miami, will be with Miami, which you tweeted about today.
00:11:16 Would have been cool to have him on the Celtics in one of those two way spots because he's
00:11:19 from Rhode Island and he's been very good for Miami in the preseason.
00:11:23 So just another guy to keep your eyes on is the Celtics get torched by Miami with some
00:11:29 guy you never heard of these guys.
00:11:33 I think Carlic Jones sticks out as an interesting prospect.
00:11:36 Both Fitz and Ryan are guys I wouldn't be opposed to bringing back either just because
00:11:40 they've been here.
00:11:42 Fitz was great when he was with the Celtics.
00:11:44 Just bringing the vibes to the bench.
00:11:46 Blake Griffin is not on the team anymore, so you could always use a new vibes guy.
00:11:50 Would be kind of hilarious if they brought in Joey Hauser as well.
00:11:54 But some of the conversation we had in this little two way guy review has really made
00:11:59 me think of how great it will be when they have expansion because you're going to see
00:12:03 so many more opportunities for guys like a Carlic Jones who's getting waved by the Bulls
00:12:09 to display his talent like he might have done in the World Cup.
00:12:12 Like he was so great in the World Cup.
00:12:13 Why can he not do that in the NBA?
00:12:15 Well, he's not really given much of an opportunity.
00:12:17 You're gonna see so much more opportunities to be so cool.
00:12:20 Carlic Jones, by the way, won MVP in the G League, I believe.
00:12:24 Nimesh Gaita got runner up.
00:12:26 So that is also the dichotomy there.
00:12:28 Yes.
00:12:29 But yeah, those are some guys I threw together just off the dome and looking through spot
00:12:35 tracks transaction list.
00:12:38 I was just skimming spot tracks as transaction list and looked at guys who looked interesting.
00:12:44 So preseason is finally over.
00:12:47 Regular season right around the corner.
00:12:48 Let's let's recap the preseason a bit here with some talking points.
00:12:51 And if I may choose the starting point, Porzingis is fucking cool.
00:12:56 Just a little bit.
00:12:57 Just for a little bit.
00:12:58 We've said it over and over again.
00:12:59 I believe I had that exact same phrasing when we talked about it with Corrales the other
00:13:02 day.
00:13:03 He's just awesome.
00:13:05 Sorry, but Christoph Porzingis is everything that we hoped he would be.
00:13:11 I remember I said this before preseason.
00:13:13 I said he is not just going to elevate the team.
00:13:15 He's going to completely change the way they play offense.
00:13:18 He's completely changing the way it's like he's just always open and having a guy as
00:13:23 good as him always open is crazy.
00:13:25 Like it's sick.
00:13:26 It's just always open.
00:13:27 He's always open.
00:13:28 He is.
00:13:29 He literally.
00:13:30 And that's not me saying it.
00:13:31 That's from his mouth.
00:13:32 He goes, yeah, these guys draw so much attention that I just fucking take every shot.
00:13:35 I'm just open, man.
00:13:37 Dude, he's he's becoming one of the more fire personalities on this team where he's just
00:13:41 like, oh, my God, I can't believe like how easy this has become for me.
00:13:47 Porzingis has exceeded any expectation I had for him coming in.
00:13:52 I don't know about what your expectations were, where they were at.
00:13:56 I know we both were high on him.
00:13:58 We both thought he was going to contribute greatly.
00:14:00 We both thought he was going to change the offense like he has.
00:14:03 But I don't know if we all thought he would be this good.
00:14:05 We're looking at a guy that's brand new to the team and he's looking like he's going
00:14:09 to be the second option.
00:14:10 Or at least at first, he's going to be because nobody's defending him.
00:14:16 You're muted.
00:14:17 Sorry, I was just laughing.
00:14:19 I'm sending a text for something.
00:14:22 I don't know if he'll actually be the second option over Jalen, but you can see him getting
00:14:27 more easy looks than Jalen just because of the way he's going to play off the stars.
00:14:31 I feel like Jalen and Jason will be doing a lot of the, oh yeah, we'll dribble, we'll
00:14:36 create the offense and KP will just benefit from that.
00:14:40 And I think that's where you see him maybe take some of those.
00:14:42 I don't want to say take the opportunities from Jalen, but take some of the points and
00:14:46 cut into the scoring that Jalen would otherwise provide.
00:14:48 But I'm all in.
00:14:50 And remember before this, we were like, can they get three all-stars?
00:14:53 Yes.
00:14:54 Yeah, they can have two MVPs.
00:14:57 Yeah.
00:14:58 KP is awesome.
00:14:59 But to avoid talking about that for the whole time.
00:15:01 Another one, you had it back to back here.
00:15:03 I just skipped it.
00:15:04 Pritchard also just fucking sick.
00:15:06 Just so good.
00:15:07 I think he was like top five in preseason scoring before a certain point.
00:15:13 Just killing it.
00:15:14 He's just nasty.
00:15:15 And they Celtics got him for cheap, which is phenomenal.
00:15:17 Yeah, they inked him to an extension.
00:15:20 Then he said, hey, watch this and just went out there and lit everybody up for the whole
00:15:24 preseason or for a lot of the preseason.
00:15:27 He didn't have the most efficient game against Charlotte in the last game, but he had a lot
00:15:30 of assists, which was another great thing to just see.
00:15:35 He didn't have the shot that day.
00:15:37 He was able to make things easy for his teammates.
00:15:39 It was awesome.
00:15:41 To go a little bit further into what we've seen from Pritchard, we've seen that he's
00:15:45 ready for a major bench role.
00:15:47 It was something coming into the year we weren't really sure about.
00:15:50 Celtics had offloaded.
00:15:52 He could be a six-man candidate, maybe.
00:15:55 Like seriously, he could be.
00:15:56 It's not crazy.
00:15:57 It's crazy.
00:15:58 That's a crapshoot award to an extent, because you really don't know who's going to throw
00:16:00 a drive and a bench role just yet.
00:16:02 Unless there's repeat guys, which there really isn't.
00:16:05 Hero probably will start.
00:16:06 Brogdon's on a new team.
00:16:09 Off the top of my head, I can't tell you a bunch of six-man guys.
00:16:12 We'll get into it later.
00:16:13 Spoiler alert.
00:16:14 We sure will.

00:16:52 FanDuel, official partner of the NFL.
00:16:56 I'm amped for Pritchard.
00:17:01 He looks so confident.
00:17:02 He's ready to play after sitting on the bench for a year.
00:17:05 And man, he's just got everything.
00:17:08 He's got supreme confidence.
00:17:09 He wants to shoot threes.
00:17:11 He's able to get crafty inside a little bit.
00:17:13 Awesome to watch.
00:17:14 Speaking of six men, I'm just going off the sheet that you put together.
00:17:17 So thank you for the lob.
00:17:18 I'll throw it down.
00:17:20 Starting lineup, we just talked about six men.
00:17:22 It sounds like it's probably going to be Derek White with Al Horvath coming off the bench.
00:17:25 We saw that in the last two preseason games.
00:17:28 Even though Al was out in that last game.
00:17:29 But it seemed like they were trying to treat those as more regular.
00:17:32 You know, we'll do this.
00:17:33 We'll do this.
00:17:34 I do wonder if that means like maybe Al sets a bit more than we're thinking, which is fine.
00:17:38 Right?
00:17:39 You let him get that rest.
00:17:40 But the starting lineup with Derek White and Charlie looks so good.
00:17:43 Like on defense, like they had, I know I'm going to preface this.
00:17:47 Yes, it was the Hornets.
00:17:48 Yes, they're terrible.
00:17:50 Objectively, like from what we watched.
00:17:51 They're still a team you're going to have to play this year.
00:17:53 They're one of one of 29.
00:17:55 Celtics had 22 steals against them.
00:17:59 Like and not all of them were just them throwing the ball away.
00:18:01 Like Derek White and Chris Dobbs and drew all these hounding guys on the defensive end.
00:18:07 Like that defense is going to be disgusting.
00:18:09 Chris Dobbs was getting blocks.
00:18:10 Derek White was getting blocks.
00:18:13 This defense is going to be really good.
00:18:14 And that starting lineup with the guards and Chris Dobbs like Joe talking about this the
00:18:19 other day, or I think it was, I don't know, it was Joe or Alec practice, but I think it
00:18:22 was Joe.
00:18:23 And he was like, there's this misconception that to be a great defensive team, like people
00:18:27 are thinking we're sacrificing defense because we might run smaller instead of double bigs.
00:18:31 Like we can just be a great defensive team in a slightly different way.
00:18:35 Like that's not a quantum.
00:18:36 Like that's not the only qualification for a good defensive team.
00:18:40 And he also, I don't want to get too off track, but Gary Washburn basically said, you know,
00:18:44 you only shot 40 something threes against the Hornets because Gary's whole thing is
00:18:48 like mocking Joe for quote, wanting to taking 53 is respect.
00:18:51 Joe goes, Joe, Joe immediately goes back and even goes, yeah, cause we got 22 steals.
00:18:56 So we were in transition the whole fucking game.
00:18:58 That's why I didn't take a bunch of threes.
00:18:59 Like we were in transition and he, he just wanted this long rant.
00:19:02 He's like, you know, that's the difference.
00:19:05 Like, well, yeah, we want to take the reason if we get in transition, we're getting to
00:19:07 go like this whole rant.
00:19:09 He ends by going, he's just getting rattled.
00:19:11 He's fired himself up there at the podium.
00:19:14 He goes, you know, so Gary's like, so just good defense mean you won't take as many
00:19:17 threes.
00:19:18 He goes, no, cause Trent goes, turnovers don't mean good defense, right?
00:19:21 Like you can play good defense and not get a ton of turnovers.
00:19:23 Like Joe was just go.
00:19:25 And this was all after the presser ended too.
00:19:27 Like this was just talking for the sake of it.
00:19:30 It was, it was very funny.
00:19:32 I, like everyone shut off their cameras and Joe just goes, he just starts going like,
00:19:36 we didn't take a bunch of threes.
00:19:37 Cause like he starts like popping off after all the cameras come down.
00:19:42 But I'm this starting lineup looks so sick.
00:19:44 And again, I, every time we talk about this, I mentioned it, but you were a big start out
00:19:47 guy.
00:19:48 Are we good with the Derek lineup or is that, do you think they'll roll with that?
00:19:53 Uh, you know, I think they will depending on, you know, if there's any matchup thing
00:19:59 that needs to be taken care of, but I thought they looked really good against the Hornets.
00:20:04 They got off to a much better start than they did against the fellows version of the Knicks
00:20:08 in, in fairness, not hard to look good.
00:20:11 Not, not hard.
00:20:12 Right.
00:20:13 But Lonello is a solid player.
00:20:14 So they had a little bit of a defensive assignment there.
00:20:17 I think, I don't know if he's at the string, the pressure of Joe just goes, yeah, we're
00:20:22 not going to be playing bad teams every night.
00:20:24 So we're not going to be 22.
00:20:28 That's literally, that's like a little like preview of just beef, but like the Hornets
00:20:33 have like a little bit of bulletin board material.
00:20:35 Not that I care.
00:20:36 I mean, listen, more bulletin board material.
00:20:38 I'm not like afraid of the Hornets having both.
00:20:40 I don't even think you meant it, meant it in a bad way, but it was just like, yeah,
00:20:44 but like last year, Eddie house was like the magic or a bad team.
00:20:46 Then they beat the Celtics twice and all the players were like talking about it.
00:20:49 So it is a thing.
00:20:51 People hear things, especially NBA players.
00:20:53 They're so sensitive.
00:20:54 They're literally like Hornets are just terrible though.
00:20:57 They are terrible.
00:20:58 They are terrible.
00:20:59 But the South's got off to a great start just to switch back to Porzingis ever so slightly,
00:21:04 but he goes into the starting lineup aspect in him being the lone big guy.
00:21:07 He was dominant as the big guy in the first half, double, double at the half.
00:21:10 He was on the offensive glass, putting up putbacks through contact and getting to the
00:21:15 line.
00:21:16 He looked awesome.
00:21:17 They couldn't, they had no answer for Christophe's Porzingis Charlotte.
00:21:20 I mean, it's Charlotte, but still to see him have to take on the responsibility of being
00:21:24 the center and it going extremely well.
00:21:27 Awesome.
00:21:28 Great for Porzingis.
00:21:29 Great for the Celtics.
00:21:30 Great for Joe's small ball starting lineup.
00:21:32 If you want to call it that, cause it's kind of not small ball, but it is.
00:21:36 Yeah.
00:21:37 Yeah.
00:21:38 I mean, it's, it's, I'm so excited.
00:21:43 This team is good.
00:21:44 All the defensive stuff they're doing is super cool.
00:21:46 It seems like Joe is more like, okay, yeah, we got to actually like, I actually have to
00:21:50 coach them on defense.
00:21:51 Which is basically like, they're not just going to try.
00:21:53 I have to tell them to try.
00:21:55 Speaking of Joe, put it on the sheet too.
00:21:58 He's been so cool.
00:21:59 Like he's just been really a lot more open.
00:22:01 He's been a lot more willing to answer questions.
00:22:04 He did shit on me for asking if they're going to guard small and big guys.
00:22:07 And he was just like, yeah, we're going to have to do both.
00:22:09 I'm like, sorry, Joe, my bad.
00:22:12 Start writing your hit piece.
00:22:14 Revenge.
00:22:15 Except the differences.
00:22:16 When I write that's Jack's villain origin story.
00:22:20 Nah, Joe's been great.
00:22:22 I think he's been a lot more open and he's fun this year too, which is like last, last
00:22:26 year, Joe was like very closed off and almost combative when he was talking to the press
00:22:32 and he just seems more open and willing to chat this year and very vocal.
00:22:35 Has anyone asked him about that?
00:22:39 I don't think so.
00:22:40 I think it might be something interesting for you to ask, not for our sake, but it could
00:22:45 be a good self-explanatory piece.
00:22:46 I can't remember.
00:22:47 I can't remember if somebody asked it at the start of the year.
00:22:48 I think he talked about it briefly on the JJ Reddick pod, but yeah, man, I'm hyped for
00:22:53 Joe.
00:22:54 Anything else we missed about the preseason?
00:22:55 I think, I mean, obviously Nimesh Keita has been sick, but Nimesh Keita led the league
00:23:00 in preseason field goal percentage, by the way, and offensive rebounding percentage.
00:23:04 So taking off where Rob left off.
00:23:06 Beast.
00:23:07 Yeah.
00:23:08 I think just some interesting things Joe has done on the court.
00:23:12 The pressing, that's interesting.
00:23:13 Something to keep your eyes out for when the season rolls around.
00:23:16 How are they going to muck up games against teams, create chaos?
00:23:21 Listen, Hornets, bad team.
00:23:24 Knicks version of the fellas, technically a bad team, but I'd love to see what they're
00:23:29 going to do when they play Milwaukee, a full strength Knicks, Miami the first week.
00:23:35 Are they still going to press?
00:23:36 Is it going to work?
00:23:37 Maybe.
00:23:38 I don't know if it's going to work against Spolster.
00:23:41 I feel like he'll be kind of ready for it, but I do like that Joe's experimenting with
00:23:44 crazy shit to throw curve balls in the playoffs.
00:23:47 I know he's mentioned the curve ball quite a bit.
00:23:49 I think you need a curve ball as a coach every once in a while.
00:23:52 I mean, you saw Spolster throw curve balls all series last year, last two years, last
00:23:57 three and four years.
00:23:58 I mean, that's how Miami is stuck with the Celtics team.
00:24:02 That's probably a better team in every single series.
00:24:05 Yet two of them went seven games in the Celtics, lost the one that didn't.
00:24:09 I mean, yeah, you have to have things that are adjustments to screw up the other team.
00:24:13 It's going to make things so much easier for you.
00:24:15 Definitely.
00:24:16 Yeah, I'm in for Joe.
00:24:18 I'm in for the season.
00:24:19 Preseason went well.
00:24:20 W in my book.
00:24:21 But next thing we got you and they lose this.
00:24:25 They lost once.
00:24:26 Yeah, they lost to.
00:24:28 Yeah, they lost the game.
00:24:31 They didn't play anybody.
00:24:32 The Knicks.
00:24:33 Yes, yes.
00:24:34 The one game I bet on them to win is.
00:24:35 Yes, I have four and oh, I'm pretty sure that's.
00:24:39 Fuck you.
00:24:40 You're right today.
00:24:41 You will get there today.
00:24:43 I went to the juice slash X, whatever you call it.
00:24:47 Johnny Cupcakes collaboration with Jalen Brown in Boston at Newberry Street at Johnny Cupcakes
00:24:53 location.
00:24:54 I'll pull up my Twitter because I shared some photos and did you get anything?
00:24:58 But I talked to Johnny Cupcakes.
00:25:01 I talked to a couple of people from the juice team.
00:25:02 I talked to us.
00:25:03 Oh, no, no, I did not.
00:25:06 But these are what the shirts look like.
00:25:08 They're very cool.
00:25:09 They're limited, though, so I'm not going to ask for anything.
00:25:10 But it comes in this box.
00:25:12 They were like one hundred dollars each.
00:25:15 They're one hundred dollars for a T-shirt.
00:25:16 I think so.
00:25:17 I think that much.
00:25:18 Yeah.
00:25:19 And you had to buy two to get an autograph.
00:25:20 Oh, my gosh, that's robbery.
00:25:21 No wonder.
00:25:22 He was so friendly with all these people.
00:25:26 They're very cool, though.
00:25:27 It's it comes in like the cereal box kind of thing.
00:25:31 This is one.
00:25:32 It's like a light bulb.
00:25:34 Fun.
00:25:35 These are all the designs, but I have full pictures of them.
00:25:37 So you want this is like the back.
00:25:38 This is the logo.
00:25:39 A limited edition collab.
00:25:42 These are the full.
00:25:43 These are the other ones.
00:25:44 No juice, no cupcakes.
00:25:45 The joke being juice is called juice, but they don't sell juice and cupcakes is Johnny
00:25:48 Cupcakes.
00:25:49 They don't sell cupcakes, which is funny.
00:25:52 I guess that was something they kept saying.
00:25:54 This is a cool shirt.
00:25:55 It's just the box on a shirt.
00:25:56 But I mean, the designs are cool.
00:25:58 This is probably my favorite one.
00:25:59 I like that one, too.
00:26:00 I was going to give you one if you were getting a shirt.
00:26:04 Not for one hundred dollars.
00:26:07 This is another thing.
00:26:08 This is Jalen at the event.
00:26:10 This is when he first got there.
00:26:11 It got very packed and very busy, very fast.
00:26:14 This is him with Johnny Cupcakes.
00:26:15 Legend.
00:26:16 He was Johnny Cupcakes.
00:26:18 Very nice guy.
00:26:19 Very cool.
00:26:20 Very personable.
00:26:21 So shout out him.
00:26:23 This is him meeting Alex, who was the fan who was there.
00:26:26 He got there at three a.m. and then he he wasn't wearing the Lakers jersey, by the way.
00:26:30 I was listening on other platforms.
00:26:32 Lakers jersey.
00:26:33 He wasn't wearing this when we pulled up and talked to him.
00:26:35 He just put it on to meet Jalen, which is just like a rat.
00:26:39 Yeah, that's an ultimate disrespect move.
00:26:41 Like what are we doing?
00:26:43 Yeah, so that's that's a bit whack.
00:26:46 Also, they were supposed to have Jalen sign the shirts they bought.
00:26:51 And then everyone just came in with jerseys and had Jalen sign the jerseys.
00:26:54 No one had signed the shirts they bought.
00:26:58 So there's that.
00:27:00 Somebody brought this.
00:27:01 This is a full cardboard cutout of Jalen Brown to the event.
00:27:06 Someone just rocked up with it in the store and had him sign it, which was super funny.
00:27:10 I respect that.
00:27:11 Yeah, it's just a kid, too.
00:27:12 He just brought it in.
00:27:13 So that was fun.
00:27:14 I think Cam Tabatabai posted some other pictures that were taken by actual photographers.
00:27:20 Yep.
00:27:21 Shout out Air Miss Martinez.
00:27:22 We met him there.
00:27:23 He sent us some pictures.
00:27:24 It was cool.
00:27:25 Jalen at the event, him signing boxes.
00:27:30 This is Jalen Johnny Cupcakes and I need to get this name correct.
00:27:34 And set free Richardson, who upset it up.
00:27:37 He like works with NBA players.
00:27:38 He was talking to us.
00:27:39 He said, yeah, I've connected with, you know, Kemba connected with Marcus.
00:27:42 I think he said Kyrie to stop.
00:27:45 Nice guy.
00:27:46 Don't shut up.
00:27:47 He's a great guy.
00:27:49 Very nice.
00:27:50 I got some quotes from him to basically saying like, yeah, that you went out to dinner was
00:27:53 an idea.
00:27:54 We they only came up with this idea like a month ago.
00:27:57 So this is a very quick, like, get it out, get it rolling.
00:28:00 But yeah, and shout out Air Miss Marti Air Miss Martinez for the now I lagged, but let
00:28:05 it be known, Alex is a rat.
00:28:08 You got that out.
00:28:09 Don't worry.
00:28:10 You got I did.
00:28:11 OK, Alex, rat move, rat move to show up to a Jalen event.
00:28:14 Not only show up with the Lakers jersey, but be the first person there and then put the
00:28:18 Lakers jersey on.
00:28:19 So you go up there first.
00:28:21 He was legitimately there since three of the.
00:28:23 What was his story?
00:28:25 It's crazy.
00:28:26 That's it.
00:28:27 That's all we got.
00:28:28 You get nothing for you.
00:28:29 He was like, well, he was he's a huge Jalen fans.
00:28:31 He was just like, yeah, I love Jalen, man.
00:28:33 I just want to be here and be a fan.
00:28:35 Yeah, I don't know.
00:28:36 I don't really get that part.
00:28:38 He left before we could ask him about the Lakers jersey.
00:28:40 We were going to.
00:28:41 But yeah, the event was cool.
00:28:43 Jalen was there.
00:28:44 It was a two to four event and we didn't leave until like six.
00:28:47 So he was there, man, people.
00:28:49 It was fun.
00:28:50 He was like the reason it took so long was because Jalen was just like having a conversation
00:28:53 with everybody who walked up.
00:28:55 I mean, you should have for two hundred dollars to get up there.
00:28:59 It was very nice.
00:29:00 It was very nice.
00:29:01 It was a well run event.
00:29:02 Everyone at Johnny Cupcakes was cool.
00:29:03 And the story, if you want, you know, some cool T-shirts, go to Johnny Cupcakes, New
00:29:07 Bear Street's a very cool store.
00:29:08 Like the whole thing is all the T-shirts are black.
00:29:11 They called it a fakery.
00:29:13 Not good for pet owners.
00:29:16 No, I think there's some other color.
00:29:19 There's some other colored ones there, too.
00:29:21 There is I think this is the right logo.
00:29:23 Let me wear the Jalen ones multicolored, too, or no, no, all those are black.
00:29:27 They have a Seinfeld designed one, though, where it's the Seinfeld like it's a blue shirt
00:29:31 with the Seinfeld logo.
00:29:32 It says Johnny Cupcakes.
00:29:34 You figured you'd like that.
00:29:35 I would like that.
00:29:37 But yeah, shout out them.
00:29:38 They were cool.
00:29:39 Have you seen Seinfeld at all?
00:29:40 No.
00:29:41 Oh, you're missing out.
00:29:42 Yeah, no.
00:29:43 That's something you can just put on while you're working.
00:29:45 I've heard plenty of stories about Kramer because my mom likens me to him, although
00:29:51 I don't see it as much.
00:29:52 Maybe you just meet in my personal life, but I don't see it either.
00:29:58 I know.
00:29:59 No, it's I've you're more of a George.
00:30:02 I feel like I just got insulted.
00:30:04 You did.
00:30:05 But you enjoy the next thing like, uh, yes.
00:30:10 All right.
00:30:11 So there's a quick one, but Andre Iguodala, newly retired, went on to first take because
00:30:17 that's what you do when you're retired.
00:30:19 And he had some things to say about you holiday.
00:30:21 The two were teammates for a couple of years while they were in Philadelphia.
00:30:24 But a very nice things to say about you says he's the most underrated player of his generation.
00:30:31 Is he really?
00:30:33 Maybe he probably he probably gets a very underrated outlook on his career because he spent so
00:30:40 much time in New Orleans and then Milwaukee.
00:30:43 He won the championship once he got there, but he spent the bulk of his prime playing
00:30:47 for the Pelicans, a team that nobody really paid much attention to.
00:30:51 And I mean, they even made the playoffs a couple of years.
00:30:53 Nobody was talking about him.
00:30:54 I remember when he was about to get traded to Milwaukee, there were rumors of the Celtics
00:31:00 maybe being interested in him and it was going to have to be Kemba and some draft picks.
00:31:05 I just want to be like, really Kemba for him.
00:31:09 So if that doesn't say drew holidays and underrated player, I don't know what does it would have
00:31:15 been like Kemba and some picks for drew holiday instead of Milwaukee.
00:31:20 It was a rumor years and years ago, like right before the Milwaukee trade happened on the
00:31:24 show.
00:31:25 And I was like, no, absolutely not.
00:31:26 Don't do that.
00:31:27 That's dumb.
00:31:28 I would've done it.
00:31:29 That'd be great.
00:31:30 Maybe, maybe I think you were more in favor of it than I was, but I don't know if you
00:31:34 were all in or not.
00:31:35 Look at me, look at me go.
00:31:37 No, I mean, I guess we should have seen it like drew holidays and more of it.
00:31:41 He'd last longer just like defense and that sort of stuff.
00:31:44 I don't know though.
00:31:45 I can see why to make two all-star appearances 10 years.
00:31:49 Like, like at the beginning, like towards the end of your career and you're making all-star
00:31:53 appearances, but nothing in between.
00:31:56 That is crazy.
00:31:57 That is crazy.
00:31:59 Any other underrated guys?
00:32:00 I'll stop your head.
00:32:03 I mean, Rudy Gage just got waved probably perennially underrated.
00:32:06 He's very good.
00:32:07 He might've been overrated.
00:32:08 Rudy K. Yeah.
00:32:10 Like the teams he was on were never great.
00:32:14 The Raptors traded him and then all of a sudden got competitive when he was on Memphis.
00:32:21 I think those teams were actually not bad.
00:32:23 So maybe he's only made the playoffs.
00:32:26 He only made the playoffs three times in his career.
00:32:28 So maybe I see what you're saying, but it's tough because you look at the teams he was
00:32:34 on, those Memphis teams, like those were the young rebuilding Memphis.
00:32:37 Like he was like, he just felt like he was always the guy this team traded.
00:32:41 Cause like we have to trade somebody to get the next star and he's just good enough for
00:32:45 the other team to be interested in.
00:32:47 Sure.
00:32:48 You know what I'm saying?
00:32:49 I don't know if it's completely fair to say he was overrated.
00:32:51 I think Rudy Gage is a good player.
00:32:54 Trying to think of other ones.
00:32:55 Something ahead.
00:32:56 Andre Guadal probably underrated.
00:32:57 He's himself.
00:32:58 He's a good player.
00:32:59 Only one all-star appearance.
00:33:00 Yeah.
00:33:01 Yeah.
00:33:02 He's a good player.
00:33:03 He's a good player.
00:33:05 Conley.
00:33:06 Mike Conley is underrated.
00:33:07 Yeah.
00:33:08 Best NBA players to never make all-star game.
00:33:11 That's what I'm wondering now.
00:33:12 Jamal Crawford probably never made an all-star game, but he got a ton of like recognition.
00:33:18 Lamar Odom never made an all-star game.
00:33:21 Richard Jefferson never made an all-star game.
00:33:23 Okay.
00:33:24 I'll buy some of those.
00:33:26 Jason Terry.
00:33:27 Jason Terry was good.
00:33:29 Andre Miller.
00:33:30 Andre Miller was fire.
00:33:31 That's probably one.
00:33:32 Yeah.
00:33:33 That's a good one.
00:33:34 Andre Miller was real good.
00:33:35 Anyway, sorry.
00:33:36 Before we get too down the rabbit hole.
00:33:37 It just depends on where you play.
00:33:38 Yeah.
00:33:39 Yeah.
00:33:40 Another guy with a long career is Al Horford, who said he's okay with coming off the bench.
00:33:44 I said that at a recent practice.
00:33:46 Let me find the quote here.
00:33:47 He said, "The type of team we have, we have a lot of depth.
00:33:49 We have a lot of talented players.
00:33:50 One of our strengths is our versatility as a team.
00:33:51 So there's going to be times that we have to go in a certain way.
00:33:53 There's other times you have to play big, play small, things like that.
00:33:55 It's just the way it is.
00:33:57 I'm in a position right now that I feel we can all impact the game in a positive way.
00:34:00 That's the best thing for our group right now is to play that way.
00:34:02 There will be times that we'll play big and do things like that."
00:34:05 Also just as an aside said, "Seems to me the game comes easy to him when talking about
00:34:09 Nimi Ishikata, which is cool to hear from him."
00:34:12 But yeah, Al's basically saying he was less, "Yeah, it doesn't matter," than the other
00:34:18 guys.
00:34:19 You asked Eric White and KP.
00:34:20 They were like, "Yeah, don't care.
00:34:21 Don't care.
00:34:22 Whatever."
00:34:23 Al didn't come out and say, "Nope, don't care."
00:34:24 But you can tell that he just wants to win at this point.
00:34:27 He's ready to do what it takes.
00:34:28 Yeah.
00:34:29 He's just like, "Give me a damn ring."
00:34:30 Yeah, yeah.
00:34:31 Should already have one.
00:34:32 Probably one of the best players with that.
00:34:36 Not the best players without a ring, but he has the record before he went to the finals
00:34:40 of the most playoff games without an appearance in the finals.
00:34:42 That was his.
00:34:43 One of the best playoff careers without a championship, maybe.
00:34:46 Yes.
00:34:47 That's the way you want to put it.
00:34:48 Yes.
00:34:49 But I think, like you said, his stance on coming off the bench says volumes about his
00:34:56 dedication to winning.
00:34:57 It goes along with the theme that is run throughout the Celtics this fall, which is just being
00:35:03 all in one goal.
00:35:06 The whole team is working towards it together.
00:35:08 Not a lot of guys there are caring too much about the individual part of that.
00:35:12 Stat for you.
00:35:13 Only two players, two players have more playoff games played than Al Horford without a championship.
00:35:20 Who are they?
00:35:21 Give me a second to think.
00:35:24 I'll tell you who's tied with him because it's not a question.
00:35:26 Jim Perkins is tied with him.
00:35:28 James Harden is at 160 blown.
00:35:30 But who are the two above him?
00:35:33 The players have one ninety three and one eighty two respectively.
00:35:37 I feel like Chuck's got to be one of them because Chuck was on some good Sixers teams.
00:35:42 He was on the Suns through the middle part of the 90s.
00:35:44 Then he went to Houston, but now he's not shaking.
00:35:46 One twenty three.
00:35:47 He has forty four.
00:35:49 They also had less first round games.
00:35:52 Then are these guys modern players?
00:35:55 No, no, they're not.
00:35:57 No.
00:35:58 Jerry West.
00:35:59 Or did he get one?
00:36:01 I think he got one because he's not on this list.
00:36:03 He's not on this list.
00:36:05 Shame on me.
00:36:06 I don't know.
00:36:07 I'm going to give up.
00:36:10 Should I know?
00:36:11 Yeah, they're both in the same team.
00:36:15 It's Clyde Drexler.
00:36:16 One.
00:36:17 No, you could get real mad.
00:36:18 Painfully obvious.
00:36:19 Who's the best player to never win a championship?
00:36:25 Two of the best players to never win a championship.
00:36:29 Both on the same team.
00:36:30 Very good basketball players.
00:36:32 Questionable people.
00:36:33 Questionable people.
00:36:34 Oh, yeah, there you go.
00:36:35 I don't know.
00:36:36 Stockton, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
00:36:37 Did he do something I don't know about?
00:36:43 He's just promoting a bunch of like vaccinations, a scam, you know, microchips in your brain.
00:36:48 He's just like him.
00:36:49 He was handshake Kyrie.
00:36:52 But yeah, Karl Malone, interesting taste.
00:36:55 Yeah, that's an obvious one.
00:36:56 I can't believe I didn't think of that.
00:36:57 Yeah, that's why I didn't want to tell you.
00:36:58 I was like, yeah, let's let him get there.
00:37:01 Yeah.
00:37:02 Horford.
00:37:03 Anyways, Al's ready to do what it takes.
00:37:05 Different tastes than Karl Malone.
00:37:06 Respect.
00:37:07 We'll say that.
00:37:08 Respect.
00:37:09 We love Al Horford on this podcast.
00:37:10 We'll put it that way.
00:37:11 All right, let's check in with the emails.
00:37:15 We have good emails.
00:37:17 A lot of emails is what we have.
00:37:19 Let me pull it up here.
00:37:21 We do, in fact, have mail.
00:37:23 Let me pull it up here.
00:37:25 Just give me a sec.
00:37:28 Go from backwards to forward.
00:37:30 We'll start with RJ.
00:37:32 A brief look back.
00:37:33 All right.
00:37:34 After afternoon, guys, sometimes I see where you're going and it pays or sometimes to see
00:37:38 where you're going.
00:37:39 It pays to look back to where you were not very far back either.
00:37:42 Everyone learns in their own way.
00:37:43 Some people want to practice and work kinks out and don't care what they look like until
00:37:46 they get it right.
00:37:47 Others want to do the reps privately until they have it down.
00:37:50 There's no right or wrong way as long as you know who likes doing which way.
00:37:54 During the first quarter of the Knicks game before the first substitution at 6-12, wow,
00:37:58 this is in depth.
00:37:59 The Celtics played with quick pace, moving without the ball and passing the ball to find
00:38:04 the guy with the best shot.
00:38:05 This is from Wednesday, by the way, three days ago.
00:38:07 So it's a little Celtics had 13 possessions and everyone and everyone ended a position
00:38:11 at least twice except Drew Holiday, who only had one but had an assist and offensive rebound.
00:38:17 Nice balance, right?
00:38:18 It was almost identical twin to the start of the previous game in Philly.
00:38:20 13 positions, the first 633 when Bain subbed in.
00:38:25 And in that time, the possession ended in Porzingis, Hauser and White's hands three
00:38:28 times while while Al and Drew finished to each.
00:38:32 Everyone joked in Philly in the Philly game about Coach Mizzou will never benching one
00:38:36 of the Jays for not driving to the floor, diving to the floor fast enough.
00:38:39 But I think them sitting out Philly might have been a different teaching moment.
00:38:43 It showed that winning Celtics basketball was going to be played by whoever was on the
00:38:46 court at a different time.
00:38:47 No need to be the hero to be ball dominant to play the right way to win.
00:38:50 I joke about armchair analyst reading too much into things so I could absolutely be
00:38:53 off base here, but it's at least something different to look at as we head toward the
00:38:57 regular season.
00:38:58 Be well, RJ PS.
00:38:59 I may miss tomorrow's playback session as it's a birthday for my twins like you guys
00:39:02 a lot, but they went hands down.
00:39:03 No complaints here.
00:39:04 Respect to the Johnson if we were twins, maybe, but we're not.
00:39:10 I think that's a good point.
00:39:11 I mean, I definitely didn't notice.
00:39:12 It's not something I went in depth on, but to see how like spread the possessions were
00:39:16 is cool, and I think that's how you're going to see Celtics basketball be played this season.
00:39:20 Much to the happiness of Sam and myself, but Sam is big on the passing.
00:39:25 Yeah, I just think that's the best way you can play.
00:39:27 I think there are times in games where you need to go to your best guys.
00:39:31 Tatum needs to have a shot at the end of the game, whatever it may be right, but you have
00:39:35 so many different options this year.
00:39:37 You need to take advantage of it.
00:39:38 You should be playing widespread basketball where guys are playing a more fluid game,
00:39:43 maybe almost towards like a college type style where you're not really trying to run through
00:39:48 anybody in particular, but like it can be anybody's night.
00:39:52 Any game.
00:39:53 That's what's going to make the Celtics dangerous.
00:39:54 It's going to be what makes them a difficult out in the playoffs because there's game plans.
00:39:59 You can throw it every single one of those guys, but it's going to take away from the
00:40:03 adjustments you've made to let's say your game planning for Jason Tatum.
00:40:07 The adjustments for Porzingis, Drew Holiday, Jalen Brown, all kind of are going to be drawn
00:40:12 back.
00:40:14 So I like to see the ball popping around and I'd imagine if we were to build off of RJ's
00:40:21 email, the trend would have continued in the Hornets game on Thursday as they came out
00:40:25 and kick the piss out of the Hornets.
00:40:28 They literally took their stickers and just ripped them right off.
00:40:31 It's great phrasing.
00:40:33 Next one.
00:40:34 New emailer.
00:40:35 Thank you to Nate Bach.
00:40:37 We appreciate you.
00:40:38 Sorry you took us along to get you.
00:40:39 This was on Thursday.
00:40:40 I was getting my haircut, but rat list Jack and Sam, congrats on the growth of the podcast.
00:40:45 I've been listening since before the name change.
00:40:47 Thanks for putting in the work and delivering great content.
00:40:49 Thanks to you.
00:40:51 My rat list.
00:40:52 Anyone who is working in a customer service role and calls you boss when taking your order
00:40:56 or waiting on you saying things like shirt thing boss or okay boss and my least favorite,
00:41:01 whatever you want boss.
00:41:03 When someone in a service role calls you boss, it is a backhand way of saying I'm better
00:41:06 than you.
00:41:07 They sarcastically call you boss as a way of belittling you like they think you're an
00:41:11 idiot and they don't want to help an idiot.
00:41:13 It shows they're immature and insecure.
00:41:15 Last week I had to upgrade my family cell phone plans or my family cell phones and ended
00:41:20 up going into the retail store because of a problem with the phones.
00:41:23 The customer service rep kept greeting me by saying, what do you need boss?
00:41:27 I immediately wanted to throw up.
00:41:29 I looked up and noticed this guy's mustache was overgrown and bushy while somehow being
00:41:36 scraggly at the same time.
00:41:38 He turned out to be the most condescending self-absorbed customer service rep in the
00:41:43 store.
00:41:44 His manager stayed with an earshot the entire time.
00:41:46 Our phones took some time to set up and the reps lunch break was about to start.
00:41:49 He complained to his manager about missing lunch break for this guy's phone in quotes.
00:41:54 His manager allowed him to go to lunch and the manager finished up.
00:41:56 The rep literally ran across the store like a little kid running out to recess, pumping
00:41:59 his arms, high knees and all.
00:42:01 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:06 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:08 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:09 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:10 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:11 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:12 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:13 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:14 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:15 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:16 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:17 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:18 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:46 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:53 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:54 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:55 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:56 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:57 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:58 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:42:59 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:43:00 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:43:01 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:43:02 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:43:03 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:43:04 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:43:28 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:43:54 I'm like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
00:44:23 say like you're gross like now I'm just gonna do it warm so go fuck yourself. No you should just
00:44:27 not wipe your nose and just have fucking snot everywhere. Like I got allergies,
00:44:32 you want for me man like I'm not gonna go off screen and blow my nose. Oh don't ask them what
00:44:36 they want out of you that's you just asked for a world of pain. You're on my back. Get ready to
00:44:41 get called fat buddy. Alternate all-star format number two back to RJ, the gym rat version.
00:44:48 Players can create their own six man squads and they play a first to 15 game, open to all players
00:44:52 so see if the boss one boys want to put in for it. If they do they're in not sure how to get
00:44:57 the championship game we can figure it out. Yeah it would be fun. I don't know if people
00:45:01 would be into it but it would be cool. Making it optional. Next bullet point you talked about the
00:45:08 city edition jersey not looking funky enough this year. I wish they could do a version honoring Mike
00:45:11 Gorman with the player's number encircled with his call take it make it or maybe just got it.
00:45:18 Either one would be better and more fitting for this year. That would have been sick.
00:45:22 Great. Great idea by RJ. Oh man they have yeah like imagine like maybe it's a green jersey with
00:45:31 a black mic and a shamrock on the mic and then the numbers in the shamrock or something and then
00:45:36 you have a got it or something on there. Yeah that'd be pretty sick. That's they should have
00:45:40 did that. He definitely already has it. We need to DM Pete Rodgers and say can you make him like
00:45:45 Gorman jersey. Yeah we should we should hit him up. It's a good idea. RJ great idea. Shout out RJ.
00:45:52 And speaking of funky if you haven't read it already pick up a copy of Terry Pluto's excellent
00:45:57 book. Look back at the ABA title loose balls. It's for as much as the 1970s NBA including Red
00:46:04 R. Bucketed competing league about the only thing the modern NBA has not taken from it is the red
00:46:10 white and blue basketball. It's a fun read and you get to see some truly funktastic uniforms.
00:46:15 Might have to pick it up. They should do something with the ABA ball. It's a cool ball.
00:46:19 Sick. Routless people who butcher my name. If I get I get it if it's a phone call and you hear RJ
00:46:27 is Andre or Archie. Heck I got called Sergei today which is at least a bit different. But when I send
00:46:32 you a business email and my name is in the signature how the hell do you screw it up.
00:46:36 How do you screw up RJ. Yeah it's an easy one. Not a lot of letters to remember. Do people ever
00:46:43 pronounce your name wrong. Me. Yeah. They do my last name. They love to have fun with it and they
00:46:48 call me like La France. People get my last name wrong a decent amount more than you expect. My
00:46:54 last name. So me my brother my sister me my brother and sister at our high school graduations
00:47:01 our principal pronounced wrong three different times in three different ways. It was all different.
00:47:07 And my high school chorus teacher who I was with her for all four years she wrote one of my college
00:47:14 recommendations spelt my name incorrectly for the first two years I knew her. She added an E. It was
00:47:20 just S I M E O N E. It's like when people spell Dennis Schroeder wrong and add me in there. But
00:47:25 anyways last and definitely not least which Celtic seven footer would Taylor Swift most like
00:47:30 with Kristoff's Luke Cornett or Namia Shkeda. Luke probably Luke Cornett. Luke probably likes
00:47:36 country music. He's from Texas like he's probably funny. He's a good time. Now is he the biggest
00:47:43 star of the bunch which is also something she may value with Travis Kelsey there. No no.
00:47:49 Kristoff's the tallest but as we've discussed he's he's going to die. So for my mom who has a nursing
00:47:57 degree. So definitely not him. And then RJ last bullet said OK I lied because he said last for
00:48:04 as much as Sam loves Spider-Man has he ever thought of dressing up as J Jonah Jameson for Halloween.
00:48:09 OK now so you know who this is. I don't know who this is. You don't know who J Jonah Jameson is.
00:48:13 And I see. Hold on. We are going to have I'm going to look it up. I'm going to Google. You
00:48:17 can look it up. I will find a clip. I know. Yes I know. I know. I've seen the OK. So to answer RJ
00:48:27 his question. Yes I actually thought of it this year because we were kind of talking about costumes
00:48:31 for this and I was thinking about it maybe he rules. This is the greatest character from any
00:48:37 superhero movie. J.K. Simmons is excellent. If you've ever seen Whiplash he's in that too and
00:48:43 he plays a different role but it's the same actor. He likes is the same. I don't know who he is. I
00:48:48 just know I just don't mean so J Jonah Jameson is the editor of the newspaper that Peter Parker
00:48:53 takes pictures for. He takes pictures of Spider-Man J.J. Jameson has pictures of Spider-Man
00:48:59 papers. The Daily Bugle. OK. I didn't know that. I remembered but I couldn't remember the name.
00:49:03 And J. Jonah Jameson is the best character in all of these three movies. If you have time going.
00:49:10 Yeah. You serious pay for what standing there. Yeah. Great. And they just laughs at him.
00:49:16 Fantastic character. I can't say enough good things about J.K. Simmons in that he's awesome.
00:49:22 He's fantastic. Go watch the movies. Go watch compilations on YouTube.
00:49:27 He's so good at this character that they brought him back for the new movies
00:49:31 with a different Spider-Man. He's the only person that will play this character in a movie.
00:49:36 Oh they brought him back to play the same character in a different universe.
00:49:40 See on your screen the bald one. Same guy. Same character. Different universe.
00:49:46 Wow. Wow. Does this made him look different. I guess it's older. So he's just older.
00:49:53 That's awesome. That is he's the goat. People just loved him that much.
00:49:58 Yeah. He's he's the star. Every scene he's in. That's great. That is great. All right. Let's
00:50:05 get back to the email. We have a few more here. Moving when evening guys. This is from RJ again.
00:50:10 If I say if I don't tell you who it's from it's from RJ. Even guys. Well that was a fun night in
00:50:15 Charlotte. Even when the ball wasn't falling. So they showed again why they move the ball
00:50:19 up out move the ball up out briskly then pass and cut towards the rim to get good shots starters
00:50:24 reserves deep bench. The result was winning basketball a couple of solid evens even when
00:50:28 they took rush threes. The Celtics kept increasing their lead. Okay it was the Hornets. But a
00:50:32 championship team is supposed to blow out an inferior opponent. True. That's right. True.
00:50:36 That is the number one point. That is what Joe Mazzullo should say any time anybody like questions
00:50:42 him about quote unquote bad teams. Are you going to be able to do that. You should be able to beat
00:50:46 the piss on any bad team. If you're a championship team this is what I've been asking for for years
00:50:50 and it's not even the actual season yet. Love that Nimi got some run with the top nine guys.
00:50:56 Also that he showed improvement on defense and not committing silly fouls.
00:50:59 If you got beat first don't give up free extra points then keep refining your defense.
00:51:04 It was also nice to see Coach Mazzullo read my note on the par. Stevens got him to off to
00:51:07 three point line. I got him off the three point line I should say. My favorite side of the night
00:51:11 is that Tatum holiday. Pertrane Davis and combined for 27 assists. Everyone is getting on the same
00:51:14 page as well as moving the ball until Sam pokes his head out of the spider first. Be well. Also I
00:51:19 saw holiday Pertrane Davis and no turnovers from those three guys. I don't know about Tatum
00:51:23 but it was a fishing night. Sam's head is out of the spider verse though. For now it's fully in it
00:51:28 for now. Sorry I was mad. I tell you I say that we had to do a video I completely forgot about it
00:51:32 and it snuck up on me. I do want to be here when I was here but when I was like I was like oh no
00:51:37 I do want to play the game. I haven't had any time. It's I want you to play it and maybe tomorrow
00:51:43 you'll have a little bit of time. Who knows. I don't think I got a ball. Are you playing ball?
00:51:47 I practice playing ball if I'm not exhausted because I have a I have a Newton playoff game
00:51:54 tomorrow. Well I've got Celtics practice and then ball so I probably want to talk about the game
00:51:58 but next email again from RJ. Handicapping roster moves morning Jack say hi to Sam for me when Sam
00:52:07 comes back for herself and do spider verse exile. This is great dude. I did happen. Do not disturb.
00:52:11 I literally didn't text anybody back yesterday like it was fantastic. Now that the preseason
00:52:18 games are done we turn to the last bit of preseason fun for armchair GM's guessing who
00:52:21 winds up on the roster. Well we kind of know now but we'll see what RJ predicted. Celtics only need
00:52:26 to cut one contract to get down to 15 players along with resolving J Scrubs contract status
00:52:30 due to his injury. I'll grow group my guesses into three groups on the team Benjamin and update your
00:52:36 resume on the team. Banton, Brissett, Brown, Hauser, Holiday, Horford, Cornette, Mikailou,
00:52:41 Porzingis, Pritchard, Stevens, Tatum, White ding ding ding correct. All correct here.
00:52:45 Biggest surprise call of time between Garnett, Mikailou, Luke because in a world governed by
00:52:50 what have you done for me lately and how high is your ceiling he's being rewarded for steady
00:52:54 consistent play and knowledge of the organization. It's fee mostly because I knew his game as being
00:52:58 shooting first last and always but as athleticism stood out it got him on board. Bench or main.
00:53:05 Davidson, Keita, Scrub, Walsh. Biggest surprise Keita after seeing the additions
00:53:11 excuse me auditions by Cabagay last year in a spooky in Vegas this summer. I was all set to see
00:53:17 another looks good in the highlight reel guy who couldn't advance the game. Keita has shows his
00:53:21 improvement necessary to not only keep him in the organization but very likely get him regular
00:53:26 minutes on nights where Allard can't be resting. Walsh isn't a surprise for this list because he's
00:53:30 still maturing physically which is what 19 year olds should be doing. UYR what does that stand for
00:53:36 again? Update your resume. Yes, Gabriel is steward correct two for two for RJ. Biggest surprise winning
00:53:43 Gabriel's experience productivity last year with the Lakers. Maybe thinking he was likely candidate
00:53:47 just what time with Luke but not only is Keita past him he hasn't seen to progress past the deep
00:53:51 end of the bench falling behind Stevens in the role of small base. The odd man out comes down
00:53:55 to Gabriel, Scrubber, Steward. The easy cut is to cut scrub because of his injury in slide.
00:53:59 Stewarden, there's two way spot but apart from being too Comey, he hasn't shown remarkable single
00:54:04 aspect to his game nor the show marked improvement during the games. My pick is reward demonstrated
00:54:09 progress even if it means holding a guy through injury keeps grab them as to a let's do or go
00:54:13 sign Gabriel as the 15th man. Let's go Celtics RJ. Well, they did cut Stuart email. Oh, did he?
00:54:21 Yeah, he said the next one is this one? No, no, there's one where he was like update.
00:54:29 Oh, yes, update email. Yeah, he's close though. You got close RJ respect.
00:54:38 Let's move swiftly through these because we got two more and then we'll move on to the rest of the
00:54:42 show. Understudies from RJ morning chance. Morning RJ. We appreciate you. Good morning. As you listen
00:54:47 to this. How are you doing today? RJ? Let's know. Let us know how you're doing in your next email.
00:54:52 RJ. I appreciate you. With the starting six locked in and coach Missoula preaching what looks like
00:54:57 to be consistent brand of Celtics basketball each out of the floor interest irrespective of who is
00:55:01 on the floor. Maybe a better way to look at players 7 through 14 on the roster would be in terms of
00:55:05 understudies. The production keeps going and you have a player to can step into the role of a star
00:55:10 Tatum understudy Sam Hauser. He has the height his scoring ability provides some of the gravity
00:55:14 JT has true and while he can shoot and will shoot the ball doesn't stick in his hands if he's covered
00:55:19 true Brown understudy. O'Shea percent and see McKelly. Do we want defensive JT percent or
00:55:25 offensive JT speed? I think you had JB but still wider holiday Peyton Pritchard is the only
00:55:30 understudy the one understanding understudy whose game has the least resemblance to the leads. He
00:55:35 subs in for but it's familiarity with the rest of the team and the respect they have for him
00:55:39 makes it work. Don't want to bend moves up if the opponent requires a taller guard.
00:55:43 Portford Lamar Stevens what he lacks on the outside shooting Stevens brings in some original
00:55:48 out energy with his drafts to the basket and its ability to finish his defense is muscular and
00:55:52 mobile so it's not a big job up there. Corsing is the cornet. I know that everyone wants the
00:55:57 answer to be I know what the ever wants the answer be but cornet knows the lines and knows the rest
00:56:02 of the cast and that counts for a lot when you want to maintain the performance of the absence
00:56:06 of the lead and yes the me escape the me ish kata is studying furiously to move up in the spot but
00:56:11 I'm certain be well RJ I appreciate the theatrics terms there is speaks to my high school any
00:56:18 thoughts your Sam or should we swiftly through this good good I think Nimi might be the backup
00:56:23 center I don't know yet I think RJ's points good to he's still got a little bit of work to do a
00:56:28 little bit more polish the idea of having understudies that people can play the same role
00:56:32 I think Lamar Stevens is a good one for Al Horford he seems like he has the strength and
00:56:37 versatility to kind of be a plug and play defender if he needs to be I wonder if they'll play O'Shea
00:56:45 in that spot more than Lamar because he's taller that's true he's not as strong but he's athletic
00:56:49 that's a decent uh decent shout too all right one last email thank you RJ for tuning in full
00:56:58 circle for kissin law since looking for information on Reggie kissin law is what brought me to HPTC
00:57:03 in the first place I figured I'd share my write-up of his recent signing cut with the Celtics along
00:57:07 with fellow big James Banks full articles Celtics blog here we'll take a brief look we don't have
00:57:11 to read through the whole thing but kissin law did in fact side with Celtics oh it is a brief
00:57:15 write-up I want to read the whole thing but uh basically preseason started with Celtics
00:57:19 blog trotting out big men for auditions did a signing cut maneuver yesterday with senator
00:57:22 James Banks and returning main Celtic power forward to kissin law uh 6 11 27 year old kissin
00:57:27 law uh signing looks to be a depth edition for main 195 pound frame just doesn't seem built for
00:57:33 NBA minutes but he showed a good defensive timing and a reasonable three point shot Banks who will
00:57:37 turn January skinny Banks will turn 26 in January 6 10 tall weighs 250 pounds feels like another
00:57:44 break glass in case of emergency players uh four year college float between Texas and Georgia Tech
00:57:49 averaging six and a half and five and a half spent one year at good overseas at overseas he averaged
00:57:56 five and five and finished second league in the 1.8 blocks a game next two years we're in the g
00:58:01 league uh six and six one five assists one four blocks uh yeah kissin law was at Celtics practice
00:58:07 the other day actually so that was something to notice maybe he was just getting in some run while
00:58:09 he was signed and not waved but um he was there so that was something I noticed but
00:58:14 I thank you again to RJ you're you're a beast like you're you're a legend for this is a unit
00:58:21 a well-oiled machine he puts in the work I'm getting I'm getting better at reading them too
00:58:25 I'm speeding through them I can talk quick it stumbled a little bit but uh thank you to RJ and
00:58:30 RJ let us know how you're doing I want I want an RJ email my Celtics email from you we appreciate
00:58:34 you um but it's not the birthday it was for the twins yeah yeah tell us I also completely forgot
00:58:39 to check the time stamp on that so I'm gonna have to go back and try to find when we started the
00:58:43 emails which should be easy though because I can look when the emails popped up on the screen
00:58:47 so it's true yeah I can figure out maybe the best thing for you to forget the time stamp exactly
00:58:51 exactly all right but moving into the NBA portion of the show uh we'll start with a couple housekeeping
00:58:57 a couple housekeeping items that was tough uh nuggets no I'm not cutting that
00:59:04 I will I will leave my my stumbles in imperfections remain try my best the nuggets have extended big
00:59:11 man Zeke Najee to a four-year 32 million dollar deal I was listening to Zach Lowe talk about this
00:59:16 with Bobby Marks when they were talking about potential extensions Zach Lowe said Zeke Najee
00:59:22 should ask for four years 40 million so he's clearly high on Zeke Najee probably gonna play a
00:59:26 lot of minutes in Denver this year as the backup five um weird spot fine it is weird you think
00:59:31 he'll play he's a solid enough defender he can shoot the three a little bit um but you think he
00:59:36 gets some more minutes this year because DeAndre Ayton's probably been taking another step backwards
00:59:40 in terms of playing time uh he played 14 minutes for them last year average five and two um you
00:59:45 mean like DeAndre Jordan what did I say DeAndre Ayton yeah I meant DeAndre I was so confused I was
00:59:53 so confused that it took me like 30 seconds to figure out who you were trying to talk about
00:59:57 sorry DeAndre Jordan wait wait what yeah Zeke Najee should play any thoughts on the Sam I assume
01:00:03 you're not I think uh now she's an interesting character for the nuggets because he's someone
01:00:08 that of course with this extension is no longer in the last year of his deal but he is in the last
01:00:14 of the rookie salary if you will so he's somebody that the nuggets have been at least urged to look
01:00:23 to trade to include in trades this summer uh every time bleach report put up an article it was his
01:00:28 name that was in there for the most part so it's interesting to see what they're going to do with
01:00:32 him this year and how much they actually want to use him because if he does get real minutes
01:00:36 it's not crazy to see them keeping him but if he doesn't he has the contract now to where a trade
01:00:42 could at least get them something valuable in return or serviceable in return to get real minutes
01:00:50 yeah now he'll make a little bit more money although he will have the poison pill thing
01:00:53 so they probably can't trade him this year trade kicker if he gets straight no it's just
01:00:57 it's the poison pill so if they since they signed him to a rookie extension he's making a little bit
01:01:01 of money this year they can't trade him using this salary they have to trade him using next
01:01:05 year salary like some average or something weird it's like the uh I forget where the
01:01:10 learn something new every day rule came from but there's a poison pill in there um so there's that
01:01:15 another housekeeper I really can't say that word all right another and you did a lot of reading
01:01:21 another housekeeping item um the trailblazers have picked up ish wainwright who was released by the
01:01:27 suns and they have waived kevin knox this didn't like have to be its own thing i just thought it
01:01:32 was interesting because ish wainwright i think solid player former college football player okay
01:01:38 they're talking a lot about football with him yeah he's huge he's just a big did a good game
01:01:45 against the celtics at the garden yeah yeah he's big i did he play i don't think he played in the
01:01:50 nfl i swear he didn't play in the nfl i think he just played bills maybe they drafted him and he
01:01:55 never made it oh yeah after finishing his career bailer wainwright joined the buffalo bills as an
01:02:02 undrafted free agent but did not make the final roster so there was a guy we're both right we're
01:02:06 both right um yeah then he went to play basketball overseas yeah how old is this wainwright sam 28
01:02:13 29 he's i was close he's old for a guy who thinks uh you know you think he'd be a younger player
01:02:21 i like to pick up for the trailblazers he's a nice like big body to throw out there off the bench like
01:02:27 he's dudist it might be the most jack guy in the nfl he's huge he's gigantic i think he would have
01:02:31 been an interesting pickup for the celtics actually he has a little bit of a shooting ability and he's
01:02:36 obviously strong enough to hold his own on defense he's not the greatest shooter ever but he had a
01:02:40 good game against celtic so he fits the bill to uh get brought in surprise surprise the suns let him
01:02:44 go that too weird they pick somebody up i think though i i think uh suns wave i think they signed
01:02:52 somebody so they let him go who'd they sign maybe not i i think they just yeah no they just waved
01:02:58 him i'm an idiot ignore me uh anyways dumb idiot yeah that's me but speaking of waivers uh today
01:03:05 was the last day for teams to wave players without having to pay the x amount of money per day to
01:03:11 keep them on the roster so guys who did not get waved right now seem like okay they might stick
01:03:16 around we don't have to go over all these like in depth these are guys who did not get waived per
01:03:20 keith smith nba uh he said the following players on exhibit 9 10 deals do not appear to have been
01:03:24 waived today ryan archer diakono uh new york knicks charles bettyaco spurs he played pretty
01:03:29 well for them in summer league and i can't remember if he was in g league or in college
01:03:33 last year but he's a big body uh harry giles the third in brooklyn shout out tatum's friend
01:03:38 lamar stevens in boston wsa w for you big w for jack huge for jack edmund summoner in charlotte
01:03:45 stanley and mude and detroit and nate williams jr in houston uh so those are the guys jack who
01:03:50 is addicted to gambling even if it's not with money gambled hours and hours of work on a guy
01:03:56 making the roster let's see what happens um and then the last for him man i like it in on lamar
01:04:04 last thing before we wrap up every year sam and i do predictions we do standings and nba awards
01:04:09 we're gonna start with the awards today we need to start reviewing these mark it is october 22nd
01:04:14 podcast someone remind us so yeah there's rj remind us yeah rj can you can you this is such a
01:04:23 huge rj remind us a year from now to react to this uh no maybe just in april yeah remind us in a yeah
01:04:31 fine ask remind us months from now to react to this um i'm gonna title this in the google docs
01:04:38 uh nba award predictions okay good call dictions 2023 24 so i can search it and maybe we'll find
01:04:48 it it'll pop up we gotta be the dumbest of the dumb we're so stupid that needs to be part of the
01:04:57 i'm not editing that hell no don't edit it because that's gonna take a lot of time but
01:05:05 that is just an all-time like encapsulation of the show we're gonna be the dumbest
01:05:10 uh all right but we're gonna do nba war predictions now um and then we'll get to the
01:05:16 rels and then that'll be it and then i can go to sleep yeah uh all right you want to start with the
01:05:22 mvp or do you want to go least important award to the most important yeah let's do that one okay
01:05:28 so let's start with clutch player of the year because no one cares um sam and i sam who is
01:05:34 lagging now sometimes i'll cut it when sam lags from the show but instead i'm just gonna talk to
01:05:38 you guys until sam comes back how are you guys doing today sam's gonna have no idea this is in
01:05:41 the show and maybe i'll show him uh but sam's not here i hope you're all having a great day
01:05:47 this is mainly because i don't want to have to edit out sam's lag from the show and put it in
01:05:52 and have that extra time so i'm just filibustering but we appreciate you welcome back sam sorry um
01:05:59 it's fine thing to read so shocker clutch player of the year um i it's i don't know how to predict
01:06:07 this because it's new last year who do you have as your clutch player of the year sam
01:06:11 mine is blank i thought we were going to skip it but i will give you some ideas off the top of my
01:06:16 head i think luca is a good a good we got the dumbest motherfuckers okay lucas sure i think
01:06:27 lucas is a good pick uh a little bit biased as a celtics fan but i've seen him hit more game winners
01:06:32 against celtics than probably 99 of nba players i've ever seen play uh i also think that i i want
01:06:40 to think teams that are probably going to be having to battle it out in a lot of close games that's
01:06:45 why i thought so i have four players under here who were in the running last year that i think are
01:06:51 automatically going to be in one last year darren fox i think one last year okay and so i have fox
01:06:58 jimmy luca demar de rosen i think those four were in the running last year they'll probably be in
01:07:02 the running this year but for my top three i picked three guys who i thought were unique because i was
01:07:06 like you know let's have some fun donovan mitchell is who i had to win i think donovan mitchell have
01:07:11 a good chance he seems like they'll be there i think trey young could have a chance because i
01:07:15 think the hawks could be i have one for you when you're done and then my really weird one cam
01:07:21 johnson i think the nets are going to be in a lot of close games i think he's probably the best cam
01:07:27 thomas johnson okay i think they're going to be in a lot of close games i think he mckell bridges
01:07:32 and the best three-point shooter and i think cam johnson takes a major leap forward this year
01:07:37 he's not one of my most improved player candidates spoiler alert but i think he'll take a leap i
01:07:41 think he'll be hitting a lot of clutch shots that's that's my way out of left field if i'm writing it
01:07:45 look like a genius if not i'll just be an idiot cam johnson's the name i'll put out there who do
01:07:49 you got i think dame is a good good candidate for that is a good one yeah dame maybe yeah he's
01:07:56 gonna have a lot more attention on this year uh he might get to have some moments with the box he
01:08:01 might not have to because they're going to be a good team and maybe shea gilgore's alexander too
01:08:06 if i could speak english uh he's somebody that's probably going to be in a lot of close games than
01:08:11 okc team that has somewhat of uh expectations on them this year with a lot of young talent
01:08:16 yeah i'll back it i'll back it all right coach dear uh also okc dagnell think okay that team
01:08:24 has a lot of potential if they take a leap people are going to be like respect to the coach you have
01:08:29 to shout him out so he's a good candidate for that uh other teams i got to might have a shout
01:08:37 too just because the celtics are kind of being reinvented in a way he's got a whole age to deal
01:08:43 with uh who's not the general manager uh terry stott's got really mad we didn't put that in our
01:08:51 in our show notes but terry stopped we talked about that talked about it somewhere did you see
01:08:55 the new stuff came out though no i forget where i saw it i'm hoping i didn't get baited and this
01:09:00 isn't a fake thing um let me let me look quick just so i don't say while you're looking yeah i
01:09:06 was on reddit today and i saw the bucks posted a leak they're separate it posted a leak of their
01:09:12 city jerseys and the top reply was this is why terry stott's left he saw this dipped
01:09:20 uh yeah it's funny i don't know if it's true i can't find what i saw but i saw something along
01:09:25 the lines of like they were in a heated confrontation it sounds fake now that i say
01:09:29 it back but it's funny so i'm gonna say it anyways um and it was like you know i'm not
01:09:34 taking advice from a guy who never made it past the eastern conference finals and terry stott
01:09:37 imagine if terry stott's yelled back yeah i was fucking ns canter as my center
01:09:41 so i don't think it's true that would be fire if you just yelled that back it's like that time where
01:09:47 uh what was it cp3 reportedly called hard and fat and skipped it was said it on tv
01:09:54 yeah yeah um my guy i have i think jamal mosley could have a chance i think the magic are gonna
01:10:02 be real good this year magic was gonna be the team i was gonna say but i didn't know who the coach was
01:10:06 so i didn't want to say it jamal mosley reason i know partially because i tweeted about him once
01:10:11 and luke adondrich followed me on twitter a long time ago because he was an assistant in dallas
01:10:17 other one rick carlisle i'm in on the pacers and magic i think both those guys could have a chance
01:10:20 yep those are good shouts good teams that are kind of set to take a leap so the coaches will
01:10:25 get credit there great picks okay six man of the year who do you got so i already told you this
01:10:35 but my answer on my sheet that i typed out was verbatim i'd say whoever it winds up being in
01:10:42 boston but who knows if they actually have anybody take on the role full-time and then without a
01:10:48 period it says malik monk so malik monk is my actual pick i think he had a solid showing in
01:10:54 the playoffs for the kings if he's able to carry over that magic into the regular season he could
01:10:58 get some real recognition out there especially because i think people are actually going to pay
01:11:02 attention to the kings now so that's that's a little thing to keep your eyes peeled for
01:11:07 other guys off the top of my head i don't have a whole lot for you i got three uh my winner i
01:11:13 picked bobby portis okay he's a good shot to take it home it's kind of overdue he was third in
01:11:19 voting last year i think he could get a bump this year another guy was second in voting emmanuel
01:11:22 quickly i think could have another bump i mean he's gonna be six men there anyways off the rails
01:11:27 guy picked seth curry in dallas i think he'll probably score a lot get some threes i think
01:11:31 that's another guy could get some consideration if they're good enough so seth curry's dallas
01:11:34 is a big window team where they could be pretty good or they could suck in it they could be third
01:11:39 or twelfth yeah you don't know what's a lot of teams in the west could be in fairness to them
01:11:43 yep okay rookie of the year i assume you put one b i also put maybe chat another guy i have just
01:11:51 before we talk about when b keonte george in utah i think you get some chances a lot of good things
01:11:54 being said about him he's good he's another guy i picked him up in fantasy eyes emoji i think
01:11:59 it'll be good when he's just so [ __ ] good like sam and i both tuned in briefly or i tuned i think
01:12:05 sam saw some highlights and we checked it out the spurs warriors game he is i know it's been
01:12:12 talked about to death but watching it for the first time like fully like paying attention
01:12:17 oh my god he's crazy he could make the all-star game this year he's nasty i wouldn't be shocked
01:12:25 if he makes the all-star game this year to be honest with you with all the fan voting and that's
01:12:30 what i was gonna say all that stuff people are gonna be impressed with his highlights he's gonna
01:12:34 be a social media favorite the stuff you're seeing him do in the preseason is unlike things we've
01:12:40 seen anybody else do uh you saw him take the picture with chris paul where chris paul stood
01:12:45 on his tippy toes who was the one that revealed that little secret from chris paul who was the
01:12:50 reporter whoever that may be i don't know is not going to get any quotes from chris paul for the
01:12:54 remainder of the season like if i'm chris paul that's like excommunication right there not
01:13:00 talking to you ever again that is fire it's fire sam who was the last rookie to make the all-star
01:13:06 game uh yeah who's the last rookie okay before that i'll see how far back you can go i don't
01:13:11 know dude is it yeah is it that is that okay yeah i'm being tim duncan grant hill and shack
01:13:17 you didn't expect me to know blake griffin uh i was just curious i i was gonna say who are
01:13:24 all of the rookies to make it but there's a lot more than i thought so we're not there's 45
01:13:27 so i'm not going 1946 tell you what all rookies it's true this is true um okay but yeah wendy's
01:13:36 nuts most improved player sam who you got i have two guys i have uh alper and shangun
01:13:44 from the rockets feels like good pick rockets are kind of a team that could make a little bit of a
01:13:49 jump he has little like shades of yokich in his game people are loving yokich right now there's
01:13:54 all kinds of little narratives that could lead him to getting a lot of attention for that and
01:13:59 also anthony edwards now anthony edwards a tougher pick because he's already good but a lot of people
01:14:05 are gassing up anthony edwards after this team usa run he turned out to be the guy for that team
01:14:09 uh there's a lot of talk about minnesota then maybe moving on from cat or seeing what they can
01:14:14 do with cat and go bear and if that team is actually able to make any kind of leap he's
01:14:18 gonna get a lot of credit for that too so you might see a new anthony edwards in minnesota this
01:14:22 year so i think he might get some attention for the most improved player and it's a good pick
01:14:27 it's a good pick i have three my so is your pick enter alper and just solidify who do you pick
01:14:32 have you done this in any of your hey i have three guys picks been like i think this is the guy that's
01:14:38 gonna win yes i don't think you have i have i've done it in every single one i said donald mitchell
01:14:42 jamal mosley bobby portis and women you just don't listen to me i i think uh i think it's actually
01:14:48 gonna be anthony edwards i just think he has too much attention on him yeah just don't listen to
01:14:53 me i've literally every time i said this is who i get with uh who i have is my winner sometimes i
01:14:58 just didn't think like i didn't put it together like you were going not this time uh ob top and
01:15:03 it's who i have winning i think he's gonna shout i think he's gonna get a lot of new looks he's
01:15:08 looked great in the preseason so far um tyrese maxie is another one especially if hardens out i
01:15:13 think he'll have a good chance now i'm gonna tell you who is going to win austin reeves is gonna win
01:15:19 most improved player oh they love him am i wrong right it's too easy it's too easy he's yeah so
01:15:27 i think that's who's gonna win but ob top and is my pick uh for it all right i would like to be none
01:15:33 of the guys we mentioned because that means something really fun happened exactly i agree
01:15:37 i hope it's none of them i hope uh i hope kelly olenek wins most improved player uh who is he
01:15:42 after he gets traded to celtics midseason yeah yeah daniel tice most improved player campaign
01:15:46 down he's so sick daniel tice averages like 2010 two blocks all-star ties okay uh defensive player
01:15:55 of the year tice no uh who is your pick i picked janice i think janice is due for another one he
01:16:00 hasn't won it in what two three years now uh he's still that guy he's long he's an impactful player
01:16:06 on a good defensive team even though they were mid last year i think defensively if i'm not
01:16:10 mistaken but he is still an impactful defensive player he's quick he can defend the perimeter
01:16:15 he's strong he can defend the paint and he's able to athletically block shots and deflect passes all
01:16:21 of it he can do it all uh so he's my pick i think he's due for another one i back it i picked uh
01:16:27 what did you have any excuse me anybody else that's my only one i i think this is a harder one
01:16:32 i think wendy might be a sleeper pick but i don't know if he's strong enough
01:16:35 uh i'm gonna go with evan mobley they were the best defensive team in the league last year i
01:16:39 think he'll take another step especially defensively and if they're top five again i think
01:16:43 he'll get a lot of votes other guys i mentioned nick klaxon i think the nets have all those pieces
01:16:47 to be good on defense i think he's good ben simmons ben simmons uh anthony davis if the
01:16:52 lakers are good defensive team and he plays enough he's just he was nasty in the playoffs
01:16:55 and then i said d white drew holliday kp though like if the celtics are as good defensively as
01:17:01 they are i think one of them could seriously get some love how does he get that national
01:17:05 media attention with the celtics poor zingas is d white dude if if they are that good on defense
01:17:11 like i think there's a case all right mvp sam who'd you got for your mvp all right so i have two
01:17:18 guys i can't pick one i have yannis and tatum here's why i think those are the best two teams
01:17:25 in the league i think they are two of the most exciting players in the league i think tatum is
01:17:32 due for one but he has to put together a real season and again yannis didn't win one since when
01:17:38 2020 2019 it's been a while for yannis i think he's due another one okay i have tatum and devin
01:17:46 booker as my two secondary ones booker but i have yokich i think what's gonna happen is love
01:17:54 yokich again i think everyone realizes our bad we were too juiced up on you know joel and b needs
01:18:00 his yokich has been the best player in the nba for the past four seasons he just has been object
01:18:06 like he just has been he's put up the best stats by far basketball reference is crazy it really is
01:18:11 he's he's he's a [ __ ] my career player he's not he's not in the nba okay quick yeah quick quick
01:18:20 quick sorry not to like derail you you can pick one 2k player to give like 99 potential to
01:18:26 has to be tice yeah yeah you need it no but nicole yokich last season 25 points 12 rebounds
01:18:34 tennis is not mvp playoff numbers are even better they're so nuts and it's like it's like 30 13 and
01:18:42 a half and nine and a half on like efficient efficient splits yokich averaged 24 and a
01:18:48 half points in regular season last year on 15 shots you should say why did he shoot from the
01:18:54 field he shot what 60 63.2 percent and he shot he shot some threes too he shot 40.3 right 38.3
01:19:04 percent on 2.2 attempts a game playoffs 30 points i can't even say this out loud he was unbelievable
01:19:12 in the playoffs i'm sorry [ __ ] you'll never see in 20 games 30 points a game 13 and a half rebounds
01:19:20 nine and a half assists a steal in a block 58 4.8 percent to the field 46.1 percent from three
01:19:28 like that genuinely might be a top five playoff run ever it might be no i i i've written about
01:19:36 the nuggets a zillion times in the last two months because i'm on that fan-sided page
01:19:40 and i do a ton of yokich like box or box score inserts or whatever and man every time i go look
01:19:47 at basketball reference to talk about the playoff run i'm like that is one of the most insane things
01:19:51 we've ever seen it's just out of this world he's an alien whatever you want to call him
01:19:56 he's unbelievable super efficient and he controls the game at a high high intellectual level crazy
01:20:03 he's the best player on the planet i think going to be again all right let's get in to the ratless
01:20:10 finally it's been a long feel like you're ready for this you you sound ready i'm exhausted i'm
01:20:16 ready to go to sleep uh but wow we have a lot of stuff going on the screen right now oopsies
01:20:20 matt oiko bring that one back bring it back bring it back matt the rat looks kind of like a dwarf
01:20:26 yeah he is we'll bring out the real matt there's matt for us um all right what do i have oh do you
01:20:35 want to hold rat court first should we start with yes this is a week a week in the works
01:20:40 rat court in session so i am looking to move out currently i'm looking at apartments and i am going
01:20:47 to potentially live with my friend mallory who i have known since high school i've known her for
01:20:51 10 years uh we're friends we went to high school together we did show choir together we went to the
01:20:55 same college uh she was a nursing major as well like so i've been good friends with her for a
01:20:59 long time she's also looking to move in the city so we're like oh maybe we'll look together nothing
01:21:02 like this isn't a definite i'm definitely going to do it but we're like looking at apartments
01:21:05 seeing if there's anything if it works out i tell sam this and sam goes it's fucking weird dude i'm
01:21:10 like it is why it's not weird it's just not it's not weird this is the rat court and so we're not
01:21:17 going to be able to decide this so we need the chat to tell us yeah i mean sam's just never seen
01:21:21 new girl it's a normal i've seen new girl that's a joke that's a joke but i mean even even new girl
01:21:27 there's like three there's like a bunch of people in the apartment it's not just two people in the
01:21:31 apartment there's four of them this is it is not weird we are good friends it's it's just it's
01:21:38 like it's just normal it's not weird do you know people in real life that do my dad that new girl
01:21:46 my dad lived with okay yeah when you move to the city respect yeah
01:21:50 rat court let us know in the comments yeah who is who is right about this me i think it's strange
01:21:58 have you told caitlin about this i wonder what you would say oh i haven't i actually have not
01:22:04 i'm curious you have to let me know what she says i'll have to ask her i'll text her in a minute
01:22:08 okay uh go ahead sam so you can't complain about spider-man not being here anymore
01:22:15 i can't i can't your pain complaint i can't complain about it being here so like i said earlier
01:22:20 i now feel like i have no will to live i finished the story in this game and
01:22:26 it is a crushing feeling when you've been waiting five years for something and it's
01:22:34 kind of gone it's like it's like the uh the puppy who eats his food too fast like oh exactly
01:22:41 spider-man came out and it comes out on thursday night so timeline timeline time jack and i have
01:22:56 done four hours of content on thursday i'm very tired i go and i take a nap after we wrap up our
01:23:02 friday morning video that we did after the playback stream with tyler rucker which you took
01:23:06 work off to play this game i took work off for three days so i prepared two days just preparing
01:23:12 myself and i took the friday off to make sure i had all day to play and could not be bothered now
01:23:17 i go take a nap after the show 11 55 alarm comes i get up spring out of bed go pee sit down on my
01:23:26 playstation watch the final minute tick off the thing and i hit play i play for two and a half
01:23:32 hours i thoroughly enjoy myself was there a timer in the game with the minutes or did you just watch
01:23:39 a clock say like no so when you're on your playstation and the game is not officially
01:23:43 released yet there is a since i downloaded it last friday there was a countdown to when you
01:23:48 but this is for every game it's not just a spider-man thing like if i bought like 2k it
01:23:53 would do the same thing i can just picture you having that up at all hours today like
01:23:57 i should have i should have had it as my background but so i play for two and a half
01:24:03 hours i finally decide i wasn't really that tired but i was like i'm gonna go to bed because i don't
01:24:08 want to get up at like 11 you wanted to maximize the time you would have playing the next day yeah
01:24:13 i wanted to maximize my friday playing time so i i go to bed i wake up at 7 and i'm ready to go
01:24:21 i'm recharged i sit down at my playstation i play for two hours i decide i'm hungry so i go
01:24:28 downstairs and i make myself food i do not go get coffee this is important i go and i make my own
01:24:33 breakfast i eat my sandwich i come back i play for uh sorry so i was getting distracted i'll
01:24:44 explain this as uh another list sure sure sure because i'm i'm getting like a story i'm sorry so
01:24:51 five hours go by i go back downstairs my dad says oh you must be hungry i made myself a wrap and i
01:24:56 went right back upstairs and played so what is it nine to two i have played now seven total hours
01:25:04 since waking up i proceed to play another eight hours straight well i ate dinner at some point oh
01:25:12 yes sure you got it yeah and i recorded with you okay sorry wow i recorded you're dumb ass to get
01:25:20 no i recorded with you but by the time i recorded with jack i have developed a splitting headache
01:25:28 because i've been sitting yeah i have i have my blue light glasses staring at my tv
01:25:34 for the better part of 24 hours like yesterday from midnight to 10 p.m there were
01:25:45 probably five total hours that i was not playing spider-man and i had eight and i did not have
01:25:53 caffeine i have coffee every single day off multiple times that'll do it so i think i was
01:25:57 having withdrawals but i'll tell you what what a day what a day it was maybe the best day i've had
01:26:03 in a long time just don't have to do anything put your life on do not disturb better than stranger
01:26:10 things day so here's why stranger things was a better time okay because that lasted like a month
01:26:19 month and a half this was just the day end to end stuff but now for listeners back during
01:26:28 covet same just watch stranger things for like a month no it wasn't covet it was it was after the
01:26:34 celtics went to the finals and we had that little cool down period where there wasn't a lot going
01:26:39 on okay yeah it was just i was going to work at 4 a.m get out one go run go to the gym after work
01:26:45 probably get done around like five right before bed episode of stranger things best best we weren't
01:26:52 even like maybe ever we weren't even recording regularly then so we weren't grinding no not
01:26:58 like this not like this we did a decent amount i wonder how many we were still in there but we
01:27:03 weren't we didn't turn it up yet no not yet we do daily videos now we're all right but uh i'm not
01:27:09 gonna like talk about the game just in case anybody listening wants to enjoy it i'm not gonna say
01:27:13 anything that happens if people want that comment like maybe i'll talk about it next week or
01:27:17 something great great out of 100 though out of 100 uh probably 92 now i i didn't like that like
01:27:27 there's certain like missions you can't change your suit i talked about i like the suits it
01:27:32 doesn't let you change okay 92 good though good well what was the first what was the first game
01:27:38 for context so this is probably a more well done game but the first game might be the best
01:27:46 first experience i've ever had with the game same thing played all day so out of 100 brought me to
01:27:51 tears brought me to tears probably 90 genuinely genuinely yeah the end of the first game sad
01:27:55 get ready oh fuck me i don't want to play i will play um all right rat list rain ass that's what i
01:28:02 have written on the sheet that's that's my take counter rat list rain good love rain went running
01:28:07 in the rain today you can only get so wet more dramatic run feels like you're in a very let me
01:28:11 high energy situation go ahead let me contextualize my rain ass rat list here rain his ass because
01:28:20 the green line decided that there was a problem and so they had to shut down service today and
01:28:27 for context the closest station to johnny cupcakes is the green line and so instead of having a two
01:28:34 minute walk to the store i had a 15 minute walk to the store which is fine except it was raining
01:28:40 and so i was just in the rain yeah it's a co-rat list rain for being ass also rain sucks to drive
01:28:47 it but just terrible that that was bad especially when people see rain and they just like i don't
01:28:52 know how to drive exactly especially when the i'm sorry i understand your car broke down can it not
01:28:59 break down in the left lane fuck off and consider it to break down the left lane i respect what i'm
01:29:05 saying what i'm saying so like that especially because it was raining and i had to merge back
01:29:11 into the middle lane and people it was like a bottleneck it was he and it wasn't just like
01:29:15 randomly on the highway it was perfectly at a bottleneck where people are coming in he
01:29:18 fuck that mad at the rain because i couldn't see mad at the green line for making me walk in the
01:29:24 rain green line was back up by timberland homes that's fine but mad at the person who broke down
01:29:29 transit today just overall rat list it was annoying not a fan okay so this is a brief rat list
01:29:36 but i think it is going to be a hard hitter so i what stalled me out of my spider-man story
01:29:43 uh my girlfriend just texted me and she is at a pumpkin carving get together sure
01:29:52 uh this has nothing to do with pumpkins so apparently one of her friends was telling a story
01:29:58 she was in are you familiar with bahas jack have we been there is that the place you took me
01:30:04 to her dinner when i came down to ball okay then no i don't know two of the four letters are correct
01:30:10 it was close but it's like it's essentially like a chipotle they have one on uh two on thayer
01:30:16 street in providence so it's like a little like walk-in thing sure uh they have a bathroom in
01:30:21 the back so apparently caylen's friend went to go to the bathroom and she opened the door
01:30:25 and there was just a guy masturbating in the sink
01:30:27 so ratless him for not locking the door
01:30:35 and i asked so jack i just received that story and would you like to
01:30:49 know or would you like to guess what my response was uh uh what my first question i asked was
01:30:55 i do but i don't want to say it so i'll let you say i i don't think it my question was
01:31:06 what you think it was what was you uh uh was he watching anything good
01:31:11 yes did you let him finish oh no no he did as soon as he opened the door ah
01:31:18 that was what did it no not really i don't know that's a good question should i inquire
01:31:26 oh i'm crying that was just so i left field i was not expecting it
01:31:36 excuse me holy shit we'll have an update for that perhaps by the end of the show
01:31:44 please uh speaking of bathrooms ratless starbucks i go into p and i get into the city i have a tiny
01:31:51 bladder i get into the city and uh you know i take the red line in i switch to orange line i'm
01:31:58 waiting i'm waiting it's like maybe like an hour and a half since last time i peed real
01:32:02 like you know i'm gonna be standing around for a while i have to pee a little bit now i'm gonna
01:32:05 have to pee there's a line for the bathroom in starbucks like how the fuck is there a line for
01:32:11 the bathroom in starbucks uh and so i didn't go i went i stood around the juice event no chairs i
01:32:18 was my feet were exhausting and i didn't ask to use the bathroom there which in hindsight i probably
01:32:22 should have but i didn't so i didn't use the bathroom like all day and again tiny bladder and
01:32:26 i'm just dying i go back to use the bathroom at starbucks afterwards you need to buy something
01:32:30 because you need to go and then there was a line at the starbucks to get something i'm like fuck
01:32:33 i'm just gonna go home it's like starbucks and i was mad yeah ratless the star daddy
01:32:39 uh so update uh she did not stick around to find out good that's probably the smart move
01:32:45 yeah that's i love how you rat listed him for not locking the door
01:32:48 yeah you should just lock the door that is crazy all right
01:32:54 i said that to kaylee she goes that's the scumbag move
01:32:58 what is what is not yeah not logging the door
01:33:05 yeah yeah um all right do you have another one or should i go again i'm out i'm out i don't have
01:33:10 anything else uh ratlist random people on the train i don't know any of the context behind
01:33:16 this because i had my headphones in but i look up and i just see this lady just punch a dude
01:33:22 he just gets she just walks over i don't know if it was like a full punch but she's kind of
01:33:28 like goes like this just goes bang and like bops him and him and all his friends are like what the
01:33:32 hell and she's just staring at him it's like deadlocked they're staring at each other i'm like
01:33:35 fuck what's happening and i don't want to make contact because i wasn't sure how like mentally
01:33:40 like like who was what mentally where mentally in the situation so i was like trying not to look
01:33:46 too much but i they had beef of some sort apparently and then like 10 minutes later on
01:33:53 the train i don't know what they were talking about but she just picks up her stuff plops it
01:33:58 in front of them and just stands there like they're all sitting down she's just staying there like
01:34:02 looking like she's on the phone the whole time just stands there i was like what the fuck is
01:34:06 happening right now and she's just what bro i i didn't even see the punch fully i just this is
01:34:11 what i saw i saw arm out face clocked and then like him going what the hell it's like what the
01:34:18 fuck is happening it's not even there i think i've seen on the red line so so in in my high school
01:34:24 they did not have homeroom they had what they call advisory advisory was we had advisory in the middle
01:34:28 of the day yeah we had that third or fourth we had it too for like 15 minutes yeah exactly right
01:34:34 so one day i'm sitting in my advisory and this girl in my grade storms in and just punches this
01:34:41 kid in the face three times and starts screaming at him because he called her something and uh
01:34:46 it was just you could not believe that just happened and he just ate it dude it was like
01:34:53 the most incredible thing he was like unfazed he just stood there didn't flinch didn't like
01:34:57 move a muscle just ate all three shots and she threw like they were hard punches so that was one
01:35:03 of the more uh interesting things that i ever uh experienced in high school like ever just
01:35:09 i didn't do a whole lot uh also uh oh my god i lost the second half of what i was going to talk
01:35:16 about oh well i got me uh yes when so a lot of new listeners to this show i've done this story before
01:35:22 but i went to the club like back in february and this reminds me of when the oh sam's freezing
01:35:31 again jack doesn't want to edit so jack is going to talk and no okay you cut out for a sec go ahead
01:35:37 continue what it was last thing you heard i went to the club in february continue also by the way
01:35:43 when you've been lagging these times i don't want to edit so when you lag i just start talking i'm
01:35:48 like all right guys i don't want to edit this out so we're going to have a chat we'll say it's
01:35:52 gone and he's not going to know what's so i need you to know i know episode and now you know but i
01:35:57 just i had to tell you because i was half talking anyway i wish i could control it like i i feel
01:36:02 bad i have nothing continue continue it's it's now fun between me and the chat so i thought i was
01:36:07 gonna have to fight this girl was gonna fight me sure because the place is packed and like
01:36:13 i just like to my friends like we have like a little area to dance box out make sure nobody
01:36:19 pushes us in we don't want to give up this space and i'm in a fucking box out battle with this
01:36:25 yeah built like a brick house and then she like tries to pull the chair on me and i didn't fall
01:36:29 and then she got real mad that i didn't fall so she just started screaming at me and i was like
01:36:33 listen you were like pushing me i don't know what you wanted me all i was doing was holding my legs
01:36:38 and holding my crap that's how it plays you gotta do at the club your uh your advisor story spawned
01:36:44 three stories in my brain they're shorter so i'm gonna tell okay they're all right my advisory
01:36:49 there's this kid named clark who is a legend he's very cool guy but he sometimes got in trouble with
01:36:55 like the principals and teachers or whatever so it's fine but he was in my advisory and our advisor
01:36:59 was the assistant principal so just randomly throughout the year we would be left alone
01:37:05 because she'd walk in the room and she'd just go hey clark and he'd go i'm coming he just
01:37:10 i wonder if clark listens he doesn't probably listen to this but i had people come up my uh
01:37:17 well i people come up if i reviewed my five-year reunion say i love the pod so i wonder how many
01:37:21 people like hear this but if you know you went to your reunion i remember you telling me this i
01:37:25 still can't believe you went yeah i only went because it was like i went with a bunch of my
01:37:29 friends who i'm still close with and we were like it was more of uh we're curious rather than like
01:37:33 we want you know i'm saying it was curious yeah but if you know me from high school hello um
01:37:39 clark who my so my mom is dating they've been together for like 12 13 years so like they're
01:37:47 effectively married but they're not married they're dating uh i call him coach bergstow
01:37:52 because he was my baseball coach when i was like 12 right oh yes you told me about this before not
01:37:56 maybe not on the pod but i do remember this this is the story with clark not or that part so
01:38:03 he is coaching at this point my i think i was like freshman or sophomore year of high school i
01:38:09 was in like rec baseball i was playing and he's coaching uh so at this point he's been dating my
01:38:13 mom for like three four years whatever and he was like the coach that everyone liked like everyone
01:38:19 like like the coach all the kids were like cool he's like cool guy he still is this isn't saying
01:38:23 he was like he love him obviously he's washed but clark goes up to him he goes yo coach berg i bet
01:38:32 you get all the bitches in front of me and he goes oh i'm actually dating mrs simone and clark
01:38:40 just looks to me and goes oh [ __ ] um and then the other thing i can't remember if this was
01:38:49 a clark story but clark and this guy luke who's also in high school also cool cool dude
01:38:55 we were in the math class and this teacher had a rule where you couldn't eat in class
01:39:02 because it was loud and distracting so people would come in with chips and he would send them
01:39:07 to like the he goes you can go to the nurse's office and finish them if you want and they
01:39:10 would just leave like they're like okay but clark came into class once with leftover soup
01:39:24 and the teacher goes clark there's no eating in the class and without missing a beat clark goes
01:39:30 what is my soup too loud for you just look at and did you sam lag for the punch line of the story
01:39:39 this [ __ ] guy did you lag for the punch line i lagged for the punch line i'm actually so mad
01:39:43 i was like ready you you did a good job setting it up without missing a beat clark goes what is
01:39:50 my soup too loud for you buddy just in front of the class i thought he was gonna say i'm not eating
01:39:57 i'm drinking no best part nothing else he just ate his soup in class teacher said nothing else
01:40:02 he just ate the soup and it was like okay cool uh but the other thing luke uh like [ __ ] around
01:40:08 the class and so this girl who was very shy sneezed once and luke goes bless you and she goes
01:40:14 thank you and he goes i love you she just goes like this and then he did it to me like
01:40:20 a couple days later and i just look back and laugh and he goes this guy
01:40:23 uh oh man it was uh your advisory story spawned all those like funny moments
01:40:30 uh but i thought that was entertaining the soup was uh the soup kills me every time
01:40:34 super still up man soup is too loud all right this might be the longest podcast we've done in
