Transcript
00:00 The Department of Foreign Affairs has already put the Gaza Strip under Alert Level 4
00:05 or Mandatory Repatriation for the Filipinos there.
00:08 This is Joshua Garcia's report.
00:10 The Department of Foreign Affairs is confident
00:16 that no civilian will be affected by the Israeli ground attack in Gaza.
00:20 Along with the assurances of the Israeli government,
00:23 the DFA is hoping that the rights of each civilian,
00:27 Palestinian and foreign citizens will be respected.
00:30 We hope no civilians are killed.
00:35 We hope that any retaliatory attack by Israel will not target civilians
00:45 and that the rights of every person,
00:49 Palestinians and other foreign citizens who happen to be there, are respected.
00:55 And that is an assurance given to us by the Israeli government.
00:58 In addition, the DFA has already placed the city of Gaza under Alert Level 4
01:03 or Mandatory Repatriation.
01:05 According to DFA Undersecretary Jose de Vega,
01:07 more than 100 Filipinos are near the border crossing,
01:10 while some of them are in southern Gaza.
01:13 Even now, three of them have not yet decided whether to leave or not
01:18 because of their families who will be left behind.
01:21 What we're doing by declaring Alert Level 4 is very well known.
01:24 Go, decide to leave and then we'll see how we can help you cross to Egypt
01:33 and eventually be repatriated home.
01:36 De Vega also said that of the 30,000 Filipinos in Israel,
01:39 more than 20 have agreed to leave the country,
01:43 not only because of the anxiety for their lives,
01:46 but also because they are already affected by the ongoing economic turmoil in Israel.
01:50 The DFA hopes that Israel and Egypt will reach an agreement
01:54 on a safe exit for foreign citizens who will leave Gaza.
01:58 It also calls on other Filipinos who live in Gaza to leave the city,
02:04 the south and other parts of Gaza.
02:06 Meanwhile, on Tuesday, October 17,
02:08 the 17 Filipinos from Israel are expected to be repatriated
02:12 as part of the first batch of those who will return home.
02:14 Joshua Garcia for the Bayan.
