00:00 Welcome to the Koerker Chronicles, the people's show.
00:11 Checking the pulse of Husker Nation, ladies and gentlemen.
00:14 I know exactly what's going to happen in each and every Husker football game for the rest
00:17 of the year.
00:18 I'm going to tell you right here, right now.
00:19 You ain't even got to watch the...
00:20 I don't know what the hell's going to happen, but we're going to have some fun.
00:23 Okay, I'm going to give my final record prediction for Nebraska.
00:27 Are they going to a bowl game?
00:28 Who are they going to beat?
00:29 Are they not going to beat?
00:30 And then we can watch all of my predictions blow up sky high.
00:33 But we can have a little fun in the process.
00:35 I will say this.
00:36 I have done, like, a plethora of research.
00:40 Okay, a plethora.
00:42 So whether I'm right or wrong, at least you know I wasted some time doing some recon.
00:46 But real quick, before I dive into this, I want you to have some fun.
00:49 Okay?
00:50 I want you to predict what I'm going to do in this show right here, right now.
00:53 Because if you think I'm going to predict that Nebraska's going to go to a bowl game
00:57 and have at least a 6-6 record, easy for me to say, smash that like button.
01:04 Also, this bi-week has been loaded with Carriker Chronicle shows.
01:07 If you missed it, go back and check it out from earlier this week, my interview with
01:10 Bill Bush, my interview with Husker volleyball legend Jordan Larson.
01:14 Tune in on Monday.
01:15 Okay, and when I bring out a Husker football legend, Kenny Bell, let's talk about Nebraska's
01:20 next three opponents real quick.
01:22 Because I'll tell you right now, they're winnable games.
01:25 And everybody can look at us and say the same thing, but I'm looking at them and I'm thinking,
01:29 "Yeah, I like what I see as far as a possible win."
01:32 But let's do this real quick.
01:34 The third quarter of the Nebraska football season, K games 7-9, we play Northwestern,
01:39 Purdue, Michigan State.
01:42 Northwestern's currently at the moment that I record this video 3-3.
01:46 As we know, they fired their head coach before the season.
01:48 They're probably the least talented team in the Big Ten.
01:51 They play really hard.
01:53 They also just got out-gained by Howard in their last contest, a game they barely won
01:58 23-20.
01:59 Now you got Purdue, who's currently 2-4.
02:02 They're going to play the Buckeyes, so they're probably going to be 2-5 after they play Ohio
02:05 State.
02:06 Now Ryan Walters is a young coach.
02:08 He's not only a first-year head coach at Purdue, it's his first time ever being a head coach.
02:14 Now Purdue lost a ton of six-year super seniors from last year's team that went to the Big
02:19 Ten championship game.
02:21 Purdue has looked good at times this year, kind of.
02:25 They've also looked really bad at times this year.
02:27 I don't know, kind of sounds like Nebraska, right?
02:29 But we're not 2-4 at the moment, not going to be 2-5, because it's a bye week.
02:34 Michigan State, 2-3.
02:36 Now their two wins were against the mighty Central Michigan and Richmond, and they haven't
02:42 come within single digits yet of a power five opponent.
02:46 They're three power five opponents.
02:48 Their average margin of loss in those three games is 22 points per contest.
02:53 And honestly, I looked at their upcoming schedule.
02:54 They play Rutgers, Michigan, Minnesota.
02:56 I predict they lose at least two of those three games before they play Nebraska on November
03:01 4th.
03:02 And if I'm right, that makes them at best 3-5 when they get ready to play the Big Red.
03:08 Now they've really been a dumpster fire with all the Mel Tucker stuff, and that whole debacle.
03:15 This is the man who signed a decade-long deal for $95 million, okay?
03:21 And this is where the program is at, halfway into his tenure from the contract that he
03:26 signed a few years ago, anyways.
03:28 He may be the worst hire in all of college football, or at least in recent memory.
03:32 You look at Colorado, they lost Mel Tucker.
03:34 Well now they've got Deion Sanders.
03:36 I think they're pretty happy with where they're at, when you think about the trade, if you
03:42 want to call it that, that they made and where they're eventually at.
03:45 Now, we look at our next three games.
03:48 We have a bye week going into Northwestern, okay?
03:50 So does Northwestern, but we're going to act like that doesn't exist.
03:53 Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story here.
03:55 Alright, now here is what is factually true.
03:57 Two of our next three games are also in Lincoln.
03:59 Now here's a couple of stats.
04:02 They're not going to make you feel merry or holly or jolly, but they are what they are.
04:06 The facts don't care about your feelings.
04:08 Nebraska's last bowl game was in 2016.
04:11 Okay, that was the Music City Bowl versus Tennessee.
04:15 Mike Riley was our head coach.
04:18 Every single Power 5 program, every single one of them, has been to a bowl game since.
04:25 Unfortunately, except for Nebraska.
04:28 Now the Huskers also went to a bowl game in 2015, beat UCLA, who was heavily favored in
04:32 that game in the Foster Farms Bowl.
04:34 I only point that out because we were 5-7 and that academic stuff got us in.
04:38 Academics matter, don't get me wrong, but when it comes to a bowl game, I don't want
04:41 to get into a bowl game because we're 5-7 because academics.
04:44 I want to be at least 6-6, if not better.
04:47 Alright, now the last time Nebraska had a winning record was 2016.
04:51 The last time Nebraska won double-digit games was 2012.
04:55 It's 2023.
04:56 Okay, now we can put that crap behind us.
05:00 I try to be unbiased.
05:01 Alright, as you know, preseason, my prediction was Nebraska would be 7-5.
05:05 That's still very plausible.
05:07 So is 5-7, so is, I don't know about 9-3, but 3-9, 7-5, 6-6, 5-7, that's all very plausible
05:15 right now.
05:16 Okay, let's do this.
05:17 Let's have some fun.
05:19 But before we do, alright ladies and gentlemen, if you haven't done so yet, do me a favor,
05:23 go to dpsconstruction.net.
05:26 This show is brought to you by DPS Concrete Construction.
05:29 They are your local concrete experts and this show is brought to you by them because the
05:33 company is great, the work they do is great, Jason Armstrong, the owner, is great.
05:37 I highly recommend DPS Concrete Construction.
05:40 Check them out at dpsconstruction.net.
05:42 Alright, you look at Northwestern, Purdue, Michigan State.
05:47 When I went game by game, and I'll show you this right here, I have W's next to all three.
05:52 Just when I look at a single game in a vacuum.
05:55 Now I step back and I say to myself, "Are we really going to win all three games?
06:00 Do I really trust Nebraska to win all three games?
06:04 Whether we're more talented, whether we should win, whether we got a bye week, whether we
06:08 got home field advantage, whether other teams are a dumpster fire with their head coaching
06:12 situations?"
06:16 In a one game vacuum, I would predict us to win all three games.
06:21 But do you trust Nebraska to win three in a row and not at somewhere there's a learning
06:26 process, there's a building process?
06:28 We have like a million guys that are injured right now unfortunately.
06:31 Speedy recovery to all of them.
06:33 So here's what I'm going to do.
06:34 I'm going to look at it as a three game set.
06:36 I'm going to say we're going to win two.
06:37 And I feel good about that.
06:38 I really do.
06:40 Somewhere along the way we're unfortunately going to lose the game that I don't think
06:43 that we should.
06:44 I don't know which one.
06:45 Now I do think we're going to beat Northwestern.
06:46 I like coming off of a bye.
06:48 I really do.
06:49 And I know they're off of bye too, but I just like it.
06:51 In Lincoln.
06:52 I really do think we're going to beat Northwestern.
06:54 It's Purdue and Michigan State.
06:56 Somehow I think we go one on one.
06:58 I'm not sure which one's the win, which one's the loss.
07:00 So that would actually put Nebraska with a winning record.
07:02 Okay, we'd be five and four at that point.
07:05 Now you bring in Maryland.
07:06 This is a much improved Maryland team.
07:08 Alright, they're five and one right now as I record this video.
07:12 Okay, played Ohio State, lost 37-17.
07:15 Worst teams to lose to.
07:16 Now they've got kind of a tough schedule coming up.
07:18 They've got Penn State.
07:19 They've got Michigan.
07:20 By the way, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, the top three scoring defenses in the entire
07:25 country are those three teams.
07:27 Now they've also got Illinois, Northwestern, not Barnburners.
07:32 They're averaging 35 points per game.
07:34 You want to be good, put a Tungo Viola quarterback.
07:37 Tends to make any team pretty good.
07:38 They're averaging 281 pass yards per game.
07:41 Actually I was surprised when I saw this.
07:42 They have a top 20 defense.
07:44 Okay, giving up 17 points per game.
07:46 But when I dove a little bit more into their defense, offensively they've got athleticism
07:51 at the skilled positions.
07:52 More than Maryland has probably had in a long time, about 20 years.
07:56 Last time they won a conference title was ACC Championship 2001.
07:59 They went to the Orange Bowl.
08:00 I think they lost to the Gators.
08:01 But anyways, I digress.
08:03 What they did defensively is they went to the transfer portal and they got a lot of
08:07 size and they got bigger, okay, up front in their front seven.
08:11 And it's really improved their defense.
08:14 Now, we could win this game.
08:16 I'm not predicting us to win right now.
08:19 If we do lose, that would put us at a 5-5 record.
08:23 And then we got good old Wisconsin and Iowa.
08:26 Alright, now when it comes to Wisconsin, I immediately went to their rush offense, their
08:30 rush defense.
08:31 Kind of like us.
08:32 Our rush offense, our rush defense.
08:34 I wanted to see how we stacked up.
08:35 Alright, Wisconsin.
08:37 Defensively, they're 27th in the country, scoring 18.4 points per game.
08:42 They have the 27th rush defense in the country, giving up 107 yards per game on the ground.
08:47 Nebraska has the 7th best rush defense in the country at the current moment in time,
08:52 giving up 75 rush yards per game.
08:54 Wisconsin's offense, the spread is not so much.
08:57 That's going to be a gradual progression.
08:59 They're not doing it so much as they were hoping in the offseason.
09:02 They're 90th in the country in passing offense right now.
09:05 Their SMU transfer quarterback, Tanner Mordecai, has been kind of up and down this year.
09:09 If you want to be kind to him, he struggled.
09:12 Wisconsin's rushing offense is 16th in the country, 203 yards per game.
09:16 They got a dynamic Thunder and Lightning duo there at running back.
09:19 Braylon Allen is one of them, we know him well.
09:21 Huskers are right there at 20th in America with 201 rush yards per game.
09:25 Now this game is going to come down to who can run the ball better, who can stop the
09:29 run and turnover margin.
09:32 Those are going to be the two things.
09:33 The two biggest things.
09:35 Now we've had a lot of close games with Wisconsin over the years.
09:39 You never know what can happen.
09:42 Something in my gut tells me Wisconsin's going to edge us out in a close one, and I hope
09:47 I'm wrong.
09:48 I really do.
09:49 But that would put us at 5-6 going into Black Friday.
09:53 Good old Iowa.
09:54 Let's talk about this dynamic offense that the Hawkeyes have.
09:57 21 points per game.
09:59 Looks like Baby Ferrence is getting fired.
10:01 Oh, maybe not.
10:02 It's Division I daddy ball.
10:03 Anyways, I digress.
10:04 That's their problem.
10:05 They're 105th in the country with 21 points per game.
10:07 Caden McNamara, their quarterback is unfortunately out.
10:11 The Michigan transfer out for the season.
10:13 Now the Hawkeyes rush offense, because we know they ain't throwing the ball.
10:17 They weren't doing that with Caden anyways.
10:19 The rush offense is actually down quite a bit.
10:21 106th in the country, average 119 yards per game.
10:24 Their pass offense, I looked it up just for kicks and grants, 128th in the country, average
10:28 129 pass yards per game.
10:30 Iowa's defense, still solid.
10:31 17th in America, giving up 16 points per game.
10:34 Alright, Iowa probably in my opinion has the third most amount of problems of anybody in
10:39 the Big Ten coaching wise, because Brian Ferrence, this is their business.
10:45 But he's not doing a good job for them.
10:46 He hasn't for years.
10:48 His dad is the head coach.
10:49 I think that's just going to cause problems.
10:51 I really do.
10:52 Division I daddy ball issues is what I said.
10:54 That's their problem.
10:55 Okay, I think Nebraska wins an ugly, beautiful game.
10:59 I don't care if it's 3-2, 6-3, 9-6.
11:02 Doesn't matter to me.
11:03 I do think we win an ugly, beautiful, low scoring game to get us to 6-6.
11:09 Ladies and gentlemen, we beat the Hawkeyes for the second year in a row and we go to
11:13 a bowl game.
11:14 And I hope I'm wrong.
11:15 I hope we beat Michigan State and Purdue and go to 7-5.
11:18 But we'll see.
11:19 Now, if you would consider 6-6 and going to a bowl game a successful season for the Huskers,
11:25 if you didn't smash the like button earlier, do it now.
11:28 I got some questions for you.
11:29 And I got more than I normally do.
11:30 I got four questions for you fine folks at home.
11:33 Please answer at least two.
11:36 Number one, do you believe Nebraska will go to a bowl game?
11:39 Number two, what do you think Nebraska's final record will be?
11:41 6-6, 7-5, 5-7, 8-4, 9-3, 3-9.
11:45 All mathematically possible right now.
11:47 And number three, is this the best you've felt about a black shirt defense since 2009?
11:52 Number four, and I want to read this real quick.
11:55 Alright, Nebraska has made 33 out of 53 field goals since 2020.
12:00 62%.
12:01 For reference, Alex Henry finished his career 68 of 76.
12:05 89%.
12:06 And here's why I ask.
12:08 True freshman kicker Tristan Alvanos had a rough start to his career, but he's uber talented.
12:12 If you agree with me and you think he can get it turned around, he can have a great
12:16 career as well.
12:18 Comment yes below.
