00:00 It's another week of the Doc's Diagnosis presented by
00:01 Census Federal Credit Union. I'm Travis Justice. He's Dr. Rob
00:04 Zadiska. And Doc, Friday night, Nebraska went to Illinois, got
00:08 a win 20 to 7. The biggest play in the game may have been on the
00:13 first drive as Illinois was knocking on the door. It's a
00:16 fourth and one at the goal line.
00:17 Goal line stand. This was absolutely huge. Now the thing
00:20 that I really want to point out, a little bit of a rough drive
00:24 for Nebraska in the sense that I mean, they gave up some very
00:27 consistent yardage and plays to Illinois offense, they just kind
00:31 of methodically went down the field. They got down here on the
00:34 goal line, they put up a nice fight, got to fourth and goal.
00:37 And then the thing that I want people to pay attention to is
00:40 just, I wish there were some really cool schematic thing I
00:44 could point out here, but there's not. This is amazing
00:47 individual effort by a handful of guys and the guys I want
00:52 people to pay attention to you got Ty Robinson, Riley Van Poppel
00:55 got Sherman out here. Those three guys do an amazing job.
01:00 Now the thing that I want people to really pay attention to is
01:04 Van Poppel right here, and the job he does with the block right
01:09 here, because he initially gets beat on this play, he gets stood
01:13 up a little bit, you can see him literally drop his hips drive
01:19 back through the blocker. And kind of I mean, for lack of a
01:23 better phraseology here, when you watch the play, he's going
01:27 to get stood up, he's going to drop and then come back into the
01:31 line of scrimmage. And he's the one who creates that initial
01:34 wall to stop the running back. I will per usual point out the
01:39 fact that the quarterbacks and shotgun, they could get this a
01:42 heck of a lot closer to the line of scrimmage and actually might
01:45 have scored if they were closer to the line of scrimmage on this
01:50 play. So you see that second effort right there creates that
01:54 wall. And these guys end up stopping them. It was a really,
01:58 really nice job. Illinois did get some nice push up front on
02:02 the offensive line. This was just great. Individual effort
02:06 and second effort by those three guys to create that wall there
02:11 on the line and stop the play.
02:13 Can I draw something? Because I do have a question.
02:15 I love it when you draw.
02:16 I want to ask this. Why do we see lack of imagination on a
02:21 goal-wide stand? So why doesn't the quarterback go under center?
02:25 You do play action with this guy or this guy and then bootleg
02:28 around because everybody knows that thing.
02:30 You do see a lot of coaches. I see that exact play a number of
02:35 times and have already this season. The thing is, though, is
02:40 that it does create a little bit of a situation where all it
02:44 takes is one defender to not bite on that play action. The
02:48 thing is, though, what you got to do is you just got to make
02:50 sure you've got a guy coming out crossing across the back of the
02:54 end zone that leaves the quarterback and outlet to throw
02:56 the ball to on that bootleg. So you got to leave that RPO in
03:00 there for the quarterback. If you do that, it's often a pretty
03:04 darn successful play. I don't know why he didn't do it there.
03:08 I'm kind of an old school guy myself. But Tom Osborne loved a
03:12 bootleg on the goal line. So that's another Doc's Diagnosis.
03:15 Good stuff from Dr. Rob. Come back tomorrow because we're
03:18 gonna go old school Nebraska football, option football,
