00:00 We are here today at Tracy and Pat's wedding reception.
00:05 Jennifer Hudson is giving one couple a wedding gift they'll never forget.
00:09 Ahead of the second season of her talk show, The Jennifer Hudson Show,
00:14 the 42-year-old shocked fans when she showed up at their reception to perform.
00:19 I'm here to surprise them. They have no idea that I am here.
00:24 I got this huge performance planned for them.
00:27 The mama don't even know. The family don't know. Nobody know nothing.
00:31 Okay, Jennifer, are you ready? The couple's on the roof taking pictures.
00:37 Band is set. We're moving the guests now. 20 seconds to surprise.
00:41 Okay, who's got the couple? Talk to me, guys.
00:43 Room is set. I've got eyes on the couple. I've got eyes on the couple. They're coming down. They're coming down.
00:47 The EGOT winner surprised Tracy and Pat Jean-Baptiste and their guests
00:52 with a jaw-dropping performance of her song "Giving Myself,"
00:56 following the bride and groom's Los Angeles nuptials.
00:59 And the moment left them speechless.
01:02 Oh, my gosh.
01:06 That's what y'all was hiding?
01:09 Oh, look at our name.
01:14 Who's here? Oh, what?
01:16 What?
01:19 Oh, my God.
01:33 Congratulations, Tracy and Pat. And to all of y'all, this is for you.
01:40 I've never been who I thought I'd be.
01:44 I never felt completely free.
01:48 No one's ever had all of me.
01:52 Jennifer dazzled in a burgundy silk dress for the event as she belted out the tune,
01:57 and the new Mr. and Mrs. danced along as the bride cried.
02:01 Congratulations!
02:04 The moving moment came as the talk show host is celebrating the return of her show,
02:09 which premieres on October 2nd, and she's no stranger to astonishing her viewers.
02:15 Ms. J. Hood has used her show to help people a number of other times,
02:19 like when she had a major surprise for a teacher during her first season.
02:23 Tell everyone why you wrote into the show.
02:26 So I wrote into the Ms. J. Hood show because I came across, as I was looking for tickets,
02:32 I came across, if you're a teacher and you want help, like support.
02:37 And so I thought, I don't need anything tangible, even though we are a Title I school funded with Title I,
02:42 we could use some tangible things, but that is so not what I wanted.
02:46 I wanted you to just give a word to our kiddos.
02:50 They face so much.
02:52 After COVID, I don't know how many of you are aware, but in St. Louis, particularly the county areas in July,
02:59 we were hit with some of the worst flooding we've seen.
03:02 And those babies who were coming off of COVID and all of the trauma of that,
03:07 a lot of our kids were displaced.
03:10 We have children that are living with relatives that we call that contingency,
03:14 because they are now unhomed or unhoused.
03:16 And they saw a lot.
03:18 There's, yeah, those are real life pictures that is not, you know, cropped or media adjusted.
03:25 And so I just wanted you to just give them a sense of hope and tell them, you know what, you got this, you can do this.
03:33 Like that would mean the world to them just to have somebody say, it got bad, but it gets better.
03:38 It does get better. That's for sure.
03:41 You're wonderful and you're doing beautiful things.
03:44 And God is going to bless you for it.
03:46 So we got something for you today.
03:48 We partnered with Kalahari Resorts, home to America's largest indoor water parks.
03:54 Yes, they heard about your dedication to your students and want to help you.
03:59 So we're giving your school $10,000.
04:04 I don't want to get surprised.
04:06 I know, I know.
04:10 Look, look, look, thank you. $10,000.
04:14 Good luck.
04:16 (upbeat music)
