Several cold fronts will be merging with moisture from what was Tropical Storm Philippe to pose a serious risk for heavy rainfall in parts of the Northeast that are still drying out from recent floods.

00:00 want to bring in AccuWeather chief meteorologist John Porter, who has the
00:03 latest on the flooding potential that's gonna unfold this weekend, John. That's
00:08 right. Good afternoon. Our team of over 100 expert meteorologists watching the
00:12 data today, minute by minute, and our concern is increasing this afternoon as
00:17 it relates to flash flood risk in the New York City metro area because we've
00:21 got a couple of factors. First, look at the spin in the atmosphere near Chicago.
00:25 This is moving to the east. This is a strong storm system that's going to be
00:29 tapping moisture from our tropical storm off the east coast at the same
00:34 time as this intense storm system arrives from the west. A big pattern
00:38 change. That means lots of precipitation, lots of heavy rainfall
00:43 is a concern, and we've been highlighting that New York City area
00:46 and northern New Jersey up into portions of the Hudson Valley and
00:50 southwest Connecticut here for several days because once again, this rain may
00:54 come too fast, too furious. As we head through the next several days, you could
00:58 see that tongue of moisture that goes right up into the Hudson Valley and
01:01 then moves to the east here later in the weekend. So it looks like tonight
01:05 through tomorrow is the time period with greatest risk here. And once again,
01:10 we're going to be talking about rainfall rates. That's how fast the
01:13 rain is coming down of 1 to 2, maybe even more than that inches per hour.
01:19 And any time the rainfall rate gets above an inch and a half per hour,
01:22 that's when you really have the risk in some of these urban areas like New
01:25 York City and surrounding areas for significant flash flooding. And that's
01:29 why the concern is with with that rainfall rate in that area that will
01:33 also be across portions of western Connecticut as well. So we're concerned
01:37 about the risks in that area. Download the Accuweather app. Turn on push

01:49 the Accuweather app will keep you updated here and online.
01:52 All right. Thank you. Chief meteorologist john Porter for joining
01:56 us. And again, a lot of moisture potentially coming into some of the
01:59 Hudson Valley here. So we are getting set for that. And it's part of, as he
02:03 was pointing out that cold front coming through, we've got a couple different
02:07 bands of cold. You can see some energy. This is kind of a weak trough working
02:11 its way into parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia. You can see that line of
02:14 showers behind it. There's another cold front. And then behind that, we still
02:18 got another surge of energy. So it's really several waves and all this kind
02:23 of catches up and merges into one as we head into tomorrow.
