Rylan Clark has become a 'scent sommelier' - hosting a scent masterclass for shoppers to match personalities - with candles.
The TV personality found his love of fine fragrances when he was involved in the research and development of his first scent in 2018.
It comes after research of 2,000 adults found the nation’s favourite candle scents are vanilla (26 per cent), fresh linen (19 per cent), and lavender (18 per cent).
And nearly two in five (38 per cent) think lighting a candle is the most effective way of relieving stress - with lavender deemed the most calming scent (28 per cent).
Rylan, who is hosting the masterclass at Homesense Thurrock, Essex, said: “A house isn’t a home without a candle flickering away. Scents can impact your mood, so it’s important you choose a fragrance that makes you feel good.
"No matter what the weather or time of year, there is always a candle burning at mine.
“I love the fact I’m taking my passion to the next level and my first official engagement as scent sommelier will be hosting a 'Home Scents Masterclass' with On the Scent podcaster Suzy Nightingale at my local store.
“We’ll share our top tips on mood boosting, scent scaping and scent layering.”
As colder months approach, the research found cinnamon (29 per cent), pumpkin spice (24 per cent) and sandalwood were deemed ideal for chilly weather among candle buyers.
And scent was deemed the main consideration when buying a candle (51 per cent), followed by the cost (16 per cent).
Over half 54 per cent have four or more candles in their home, spending an average of around £9 on each one.
And it's no surprise they’re so popular when 50 per cent said they like to receive them as a gift, according to the findings by OnePoll.
Respondents said they are most likely to light one up for special occasions including Christmas (31 per cent), to create a cosy atmosphere (28 per cent), and when entertaining guests (21 per cent).
And nearly a fifth (18 per cent) have as many as 10 candles currently in their home waiting to be lit, while 37 per cent feel ‘overwhelmed’ by the amount of choice available when it comes to purchasing a flickering pillar.
Deborah Dolce, group director for Homesense, says: “We’re undoubtedly a nation of candle-lovers and our sales soar in the autumn as people create a cosy mood as the colder nights draw in.
“In the UK, the average spend on a candle is £9 and our research revealed half of Brits like to receive one as a gift.
"We hope Rylan’s tips will help everyone choose the best candle, whether it’s a gift for a loved one or a treat for yourself.”

00:00 Okay, come on, noses at the ready.
00:02 Let's do this, come on.
00:04 That's not straight, now it is.
00:06 Obviously, for me, being HomeSense's first ever
00:09 Scent Sommelier is, well, it's an honor.
00:13 I'm perfect to be HomeSense's Scent Sommelier
00:16 because people might not know
00:17 I've got my own fragrance company.
00:19 I'm always in a HomeSense rinsing the candle aisles.
00:21 Apple, amber.
00:24 Ooh, Rylan.
00:26 Why wouldn't I want to work here?
00:28 This is called Forest Walk.
00:30 Now, it's quite pining.
00:32 It is so gorgeous.
00:33 It is like someone has wrapped your arms around you
00:36 and gone, "Don't worry, darling,
00:37 "I'll be your blanket tonight."
00:38 Someone's got crystals in.
00:40 My favorite scent is anything oody, woody,
00:43 see the wood, that's what I like.
00:45 Fig and vanilla, go on, talk to me.
00:47 6.99, giving it away, it's ridiculous.
00:49 As a Scent Sommelier, I've got a recyclable nose
00:53 that can just cleanse and restart
00:56 just at the click of a finger.
00:57 Just done it then, just scent.
01:00 Oh, I thought that was my coffee.
01:04 Where's my coffee?
01:05 So for me, personally, when I'm relaxing at home,
01:07 I love anything that reminds me of a spa.
01:09 So things like lavender.
01:11 It's like a little cuddle
01:12 with a little stroke on the back of your neck.
01:14 When the fragrance is birthday cake,
01:16 I mean, it's good enough to eat,
01:18 but don't eat a candle.
01:20 (laughs)
