00:02 - Welcome to the Kayaker Chronicles,
00:10 the people show, checking the pulse of our nation
00:12 brought to you by DPS Concrete Construction.
00:15 Check them out at dpsconstruction.net.
00:17 I am joined today by my highly excited
00:22 six year old daughter.
00:23 All right, what is your name?
00:25 - Jordan.
00:25 - Jordan, all right, and how old are you?
00:27 I guess I already said it.
00:28 - Six.
00:29 - Six, all right, what sports do you play?
00:32 - Soccer.
00:34 - Soccer.
00:35 - Then I will play basketball.
00:38 - Basketball.
00:39 - Then baseball.
00:41 - Baseball.
00:42 - And then volleyball.
00:42 - And volleyball, do you have a favorite?
00:44 - No.
00:45 - No, okay, that's all right.
00:46 Do you have a favorite team?
00:47 Nebraska, point to the hat 'cause it's Nebraska.
00:51 All right, I asked her what subject was her favorite subject.
00:55 I think lunch came out of her mouth in school, so.
00:57 All right, is it okay if we talk a little bit
00:59 about Nebraska football?
01:00 Does that sound good?
01:01 Okay, all right, ladies and gentlemen,
01:03 if you haven't given up, okay,
01:07 like I know some folks have, not to call you out, bless you.
01:10 Okay, if you haven't given up
01:12 on Nebraska's football season,
01:13 then smash that frickin' like button,
01:15 and if you have, shame on you.
01:16 All right, Nebraska, Illinois.
01:18 It's not a mega show today, why?
01:19 Because it's a shortened week,
01:20 so we're just gonna light this candle with four,
01:23 not one, not two, not three, but four keys to the game.
01:25 Two on offense, two on defense, see how I did that there?
01:28 Four keys to the game.
01:29 I never come in with a preset determined amount of keys.
01:32 How can you always have the same amount of keys?
01:33 Every game is different.
01:34 So four, two on offense, two on defense,
01:36 and I'll give our prediction,
01:38 Jacob gave Jordan his prediction for Jordan to give to you.
01:42 All right, Illinois is favored by 3 1/2
01:44 of the time we're recording this video.
01:45 The over/under is 44 1/2.
01:47 I've always said up until this video
01:49 to take the under, up until today.
01:51 All right, now a couple things I thought were interesting.
01:55 Normally the day after a game,
01:56 especially on a shortened week
01:58 with a Friday game like this,
01:59 Sunday following a Saturday game is kind of a recovery day.
02:03 You come in, you lift, you get a light jogging,
02:05 you get the blood flowing, you do some recovery,
02:07 you do some ice, you watch some film,
02:09 you have Monday off, and then you hit the practice.
02:12 Usually Tuesday's your hardest practice of the week.
02:14 Matt Rule earlier this week said, "No, no, no, no."
02:17 They didn't play up to their standard on Saturday
02:20 versus a very good Michigan team.
02:22 - I keep having the odds.
02:24 (laughing)
02:26 - We're not doing another take, we're rolling with it.
02:29 On Sunday, Nebraska came in full,
02:31 they didn't just practice, full pads, full go.
02:34 All right, so Matt Rule had a couple of thoughts.
02:37 And I quote, "We have some really good players
02:39 "that are gonna play in the National Football League.
02:42 "They need to show up."
02:44 End quote.
02:44 Rule was fired up in his last press conference.
02:46 As fired up as he's been all year.
02:49 And here's another great quote, and I quote,
02:50 "We didn't play to the level we wanted to Saturday."
02:54 End quote.
02:55 And I'm gonna paraphrase, okay.
02:57 But basically he also said, after the game,
03:01 versus Michigan, obviously we moved on to Illinois, okay.
03:05 But just going back to some of the things he said
03:07 within the past six or seven days that stuck out to me.
03:09 And I'm gonna paraphrase, he said,
03:11 "You're gonna find out who we are
03:12 "as a team Friday night at Illinois."
03:13 And that's a bold statement.
03:15 That really is, that's like a coach.
03:17 That's a bold statement.
03:18 This isn't Deion Sanders who makes bold statements
03:20 all the time, this is Matt Rule.
03:21 So I'm extra intrigued by this game on Friday, okay.
03:25 Now, Illinois two and three coming into this game.
03:28 Two wins, okay.
03:30 Their two wins were a two point win versus Toledo.
03:33 Am I boring you?
03:35 I love it.
03:38 A six point win over Florida Atlantic.
03:40 So not uber impressive type wins.
03:42 And they just got mollywhopped 44 to 19
03:45 by a bad Purdue team, okay.
03:47 Now real quick, before I get into the four keys,
03:49 the prediction, all right.
03:52 I wanna give a shout out to the fans,
03:53 to our sponsor, DPS Construction, the people.
03:57 All right, if anybody out there is a general contractor,
04:00 building owner, or property manager,
04:02 looking for concrete repair or work done,
04:05 or this is up your line of work as well,
04:07 in the Obaha Metro area, such as street paving,
04:09 building floors, and parking lots,
04:11 check out dpsconstruction.net.
04:14 Ladies and gentlemen, just type it in.
04:15 Just go check out the site.
04:17 Okay, enough with the yawning.
04:19 Like seriously.
04:21 I'm not that boring, am I?
04:24 All right, dpsconstruction.net.
04:26 All right, should we get to the four keys of the game?
04:28 All right, I wanna thank you for coming on the show.
04:30 - And I'm so sorry that I keep sneezing.
04:32 - You keep sneezing and yawning?
04:33 - Yeah, I wake up like this.
04:34 - Well, we don't have time to do another take,
04:36 so this is as raw as it gets, ladies and gentlemen.
04:38 All right, here we go.
04:40 My first key to the game.
04:41 I got two for offense, two for defense.
04:42 These first two are for the defense.
04:45 I about said offense.
04:46 Third down, conversion percentage.
04:48 Now you look at Illinois' last game.
04:50 All right, they got mollywhopped by Purdue, 44 to 19,
04:54 but the total yards weren't that different.
04:55 They only got out gained by about 30 yards.
04:57 The passing yards weren't that different.
04:59 They actually had more than Purdue.
05:00 They had 226, Purdue had 217,
05:03 and the rushing yards was 149 to 189.
05:06 Really, the game should have been much, much closer
05:09 than what it was, 25 points, but here was the difference.
05:12 So they had nine penalties for 83 yards.
05:14 Okay, Purdue only had three for 15,
05:16 but here was the difference.
05:17 Third down, efficiency.
05:19 Illinois was two of 13 on third downs.
05:21 That is bad.
05:23 Purdue was eight of 13.
05:24 That's literally six times Purdue's offense
05:27 stayed on the field that Illinois' offense, different.
05:29 Did it right down to the tee.
05:32 Now you look at Nebraska.
05:33 Okay, look at our last game.
05:34 I know it was a little bit rough.
05:36 Our third down conversions, all right, we were three of 10.
05:38 Meanwhile, Michigan was eight of 13.
05:42 Okay, and if you include fourth downs,
05:43 Michigan was 10 of 16, and we were four of 13.
05:47 Staying on these teams, nobody's gonna blow
05:50 the other team out.
05:51 Okay, they're both teams that aren't playing
05:53 up to the standards that they would like so far, okay?
05:56 Whoever can stay on the field offensively,
05:59 whoever can keep their defense off the field,
06:01 whoever can get the other team off the field
06:03 in this particular game after studying these two teams
06:05 is going to be huge, all right?
06:08 Number two, getting pressure on the quarterback
06:10 for our black shirts, ladies and gentlemen.
06:12 After one point this season, very early on,
06:14 we were number one in the country in sacks.
06:16 A week or two later, we were number one
06:17 in the Big Ten in sacks.
06:18 Now we've had zero sacks in the last two games.
06:21 That's not gonna work, all right?
06:23 At one point, we were having trouble getting
06:24 to the quarterback with a four-man rush.
06:27 We haven't been able to get the quarterback at all
06:28 for about three weeks, okay?
06:30 If we got a blitz, the frickin' blitz.
06:32 He can't just sit back there and toe dance
06:34 and go through 84 reads.
06:36 We gotta get the ball out of his hand, all right?
06:39 Now, Illinois offensive line also is not very good,
06:42 so we should be able to take advantage of that.
06:44 The black shirts should be licking their lips,
06:46 licking their chops, and frankly,
06:48 they should be able to get after this quarterback a lot
06:50 with the talent that we have,
06:51 at least in certain spots on defense
06:53 and the development that's hopefully happening
06:55 throughout this season.
06:56 All right, now my third key to the game,
06:58 first key to the game for the offense,
07:00 get back to running the option
07:01 and using your quarterback's feet as a weapon.
07:04 I saw another person tweet out
07:07 that he's not sure what Nebraska's identity is.
07:09 I know what it is.
07:10 I know exactly what it is.
07:11 It's running the ball.
07:13 It's using your quarterback's feet as a weapon.
07:15 It's not throwing the ball deep 'cause we can't.
07:17 It's not being explosive, and that's okay.
07:20 It's really not, but it is what it is.
07:21 It's being methodical.
07:23 We didn't do any of that the last game versus Michigan.
07:25 You have an identity, offense.
07:27 Stick to it.
07:28 Number two for the offense, number four for the team.
07:31 Address the left side of the offensive line.
07:34 Okay, we gotta get better play.
07:36 Teddy Prochaska's getting healthier and healthier.
07:38 Can he get in the mix more often?
07:39 Can he be a factor?
07:41 If you have to, in order to protect your quarterback,
07:43 chip with the running back.
07:45 As the running back's going out on his route,
07:46 you can always keep him in for protection,
07:48 but if he's in for protection,
07:49 he's not going out for a route, which might be worth it
07:51 'cause you gotta keep your quarterback upright.
07:53 Okay, but if he's gonna go out for a route,
07:55 just have him chip the outside pass rusher on the way out.
07:58 Have the tight end chip the outside pass rusher
08:01 as he goes out for a route.
08:02 He can even line up off the ball,
08:03 which normally brings the defensive end
08:05 a little bit closer so he can,
08:06 inside so he can be next to the tackle,
08:08 and that tight end can chip as he goes out for his route.
08:11 Whatever you gotta do, okay?
08:13 If you always gotta slide the protection left,
08:15 not the best way to do things,
08:16 but if we always gotta go left,
08:18 we gotta do something to help the left side of the line,
08:21 especially in pass protection.
08:23 A lot of times, offensive lines,
08:25 they always call out the new mic if there's a blitz,
08:27 or they figure out where the mic is,
08:28 or who it's gonna become once the blitz happens,
08:30 and it's real scientifically and real camouflaging.
08:33 Us defensive players can never figure out
08:35 which way they were sliding the protection.
08:37 They'll say, "Roger, Linda," right or left.
08:38 It's really complicated stuff.
08:39 More often than not, every team's a little bit different.
08:42 But if you always gotta go Linda, then go as Linda.
08:45 I wouldn't recommend it.
08:46 Let's chip.
08:47 Let's find other ways.
08:48 Let's get other guys in there
08:49 who can be more effective more consistently.
08:51 Some way, shape, or form help that left side
08:53 of the offensive line.
08:53 You ready for the predictions?
08:55 Thank you for joining me.
08:57 All right, so this is Jacob's prediction.
09:02 Okay, that's Illinois.
09:03 Can you read that number?
09:06 It is not six, it's a 24, but thank you.
09:09 And Nebraska, you know that number?
09:11 31, all right.
09:14 So Jacob has Nebraska winning 31-24.
09:16 I have Illinois 21.
09:19 I'm a little bit lower scoring.
09:20 Nebraska 24.
09:22 Nebraska 24, Illinois 21.
09:24 Now, a couple of things.
09:26 First of all, it's the first time all year
09:27 I've taken the over.
09:28 The over under's 44 1/2.
09:29 This is a total of 45.
09:31 I haven't done that all year with Nebraska.
09:33 Also, I wanna be more technical with my prediction.
09:35 I think it's a game-winning field goal by Tristan Alvano.
09:38 I think he puts it through,
09:40 and I think he gets some confidence,
09:41 and I think it changes the rest of his season.
09:43 And he might never miss a field goal kick again
09:45 ever at Nebraska.
09:47 You can hope and dream, right?
09:48 But that is my prediction.
09:49 All right, I got three questions for you fine folks at home.
09:51 Hit me up in the comments below.
09:52 I'd love to see more comments from you fine folks.
09:54 I call it the People's Show for a reason.
09:57 Number one, what is your score prediction for this game?
09:58 Number two, will Nebraska's defense
10:01 regain their swagger this week?
10:04 And number three, in all seriousness,
10:07 is this the most important game of the year
10:09 so far for the Huskers?
10:11 Three and three sure sounds a lot different
10:14 than two and four going into a bye week.
10:16 I know it does for me.
10:17 All right, Jordi, did you have some fun?
10:20 Did you get a good nap in?
10:22 You bring a six-year-old girl on a football show,
10:23 I don't know what you expect to happen.
10:25 But I love you, okay?
10:27 Thanks for coming on, all right?
10:30 And ladies and gentlemen, as always,
10:31 you can check out CarrikerChronicles.com.

10:39 People are constantly hitting me up with interest,
10:41 so I really appreciate that.
10:43 All right, and as always, this is factually true,
10:45 it's just science.
10:46 All your football hopes and dreams
10:47 will come true at CarrikerChronicles.com.
