Oregon head coach Dan Lanning discusses a 42-6 win over the Stanford Cardinal in week 5.

00:00 two B runs, something we knew that we were going to see.
00:01 They took advantage of it,
00:03 and we're doing a good job with that early,
00:05 but I think we shut that down later on in the game.
00:07 And overall, I thought our players came to perform today.
00:11 Questions? James?
00:13 Dan, I knew you needed to take away your offset.
00:15 I'm not even sure how much you targeted it in the past.
00:18 So, is there a small strike that came over your way?
00:22 Yeah, I mean, I think our guys
00:23 just had heightened awareness all day.
00:24 And there was a couple times I thought he was running free
00:26 that we didn't cover him great.
00:28 But the pressure combined with the coverage,
00:30 I think, you know, equaled them not being able to get him the ball.
00:32 So, we knew 84 - I mean, he's a hell of a player.
00:35 He's one of the best we'll see in this conference,
00:36 one of the best we'll face all year.
00:38 And if we knew if we handled that in quarterback runs,
00:40 we'd be in a good position.
00:42 Matt, in the back.
00:43 What was the difference between the half,
00:44 the start, some reference, and the slow start?
00:46 How did that fit the case in the second half?
00:48 Yeah, I think ultimately, we were kind of hurting ourselves.
00:51 We were playing behind the chains a little bit on offense.
00:52 We weren't having as efficient runs.
00:54 I thought our coaches made some good adjustments
00:56 in the second half about what runs we liked.
00:58 They had some good - they did some schematic change-ups
01:00 early in the game, too,
01:01 stuff we hadn't seen from them before.
01:03 We had to adapt to that and be able to,
01:04 you know, adjust our call sheet based on that.
01:07 And then our players just knew it was going to be the long haul.
01:09 The long haul.
01:10 We've talked about winning the fourth quarter.
01:11 You know, we won the fourth quarter today.
01:12 We didn't win it last week.
01:14 You know, just all those pieces added together.
01:15 I think it came together at the end for us.
01:17 Eric, on the left.
01:18 Both seemed to have settled in after the first couple of drives.
01:20 What did you see from him?
01:22 Was the offense turning the page after the first couple?
01:24 Yeah, I thought he showed patience, right?
01:26 I mean, if you go in there forcing it, like I said,
01:28 they pitched a couple different look-sides.
01:30 And then when we came out in the second half,
01:31 they really played the defense
01:32 they've been playing all year, right?
01:33 Once they got back to what they'd done all year,
01:35 we had some really good answers for it.
01:36 And they got out of some of the funkier stuff
01:39 they were doing early on.
01:40 Jared?
01:42 What did you see from Nico to just hire him
01:43 and pitch him in the game as a big PD
01:45 and move on to fourth down and just wait to see?
01:46 Yeah, that's what we talk about when we say
01:47 strength in numbers, right?
01:49 Like, we have a guy that's up, ready to play.
01:51 He's a really quality player.
01:52 And, you know, he competed on some tough throws today
01:54 and was able to play physical,
01:56 had a good blitz at the end there.
01:58 He was able to get in on the third down.
02:00 So exactly what I expected from him, right?
02:02 We brought him here for a purpose,
02:03 and he did a great job.
02:05 James on the left.
02:06 It's another 100-yard day for Troy again.
02:09 Every defense knows that.
02:10 They tried to take him away,
02:12 but they were very successful this season.
02:13 So what is it about him that's just able to continue?
02:16 Well, I think our coaches, one, do a good job
02:18 of finding ways to move him around
02:20 to where we can find matchups.
02:21 You know, I think our quarterback
02:22 has a heightened awareness to where he's at.
02:24 And when we have a chance to get it to him, we want to.
02:26 And then he does a good job finding the ball in the area.
02:28 I mean, he adjusts to the ball really well.
02:30 Certainly he's the strength of our team.
02:32 But what's great is we have other strengths around him.
02:33 So you can't just dedicate all your time to one player
02:36 because there's some other players
02:37 that are going to hurt you on the field if you do that.
02:38 Chris, somewhere around?
02:40 I know you just spread out a game.
02:41 But just maybe if you could do the five-nosed start
02:43 now that you're going into the bye week,
02:44 kind of how that feels, and maybe will you be able
02:46 to settle down and do this this coming week?
02:48 Yeah, we're not going into bye week.
02:49 We're going into work week, right?
02:51 Our guys know what our goals are
02:52 and what we have to accomplish, right?
02:54 And a lot of their teams are going to relax this week.
02:56 We're going to get better, right?
02:57 And we start exactly how we expect to start, right?
03:00 But we're about to go play a real opponent there.
03:02 Those guys are playing good ball up north.
03:03 So we got to bring our best.
03:05 It's got to be one of our great preparations.
03:06 We got some really tough teams down the road.
03:09 So we got to continue to build and play
03:10 our best ball moving forward.
