00:00 Hello, my name is Lawrence Smith and this is your Sussex World News Bulletin for Tuesday, September 26th, 2023.
00:07 Plans for 80 flats at Worthing's former Debenhams have been approved following fire safety updates.
00:13 The plans are for commercial space on the ground floor and partially on the first and second floors,
00:18 with 80 one and two bed flats from the first floor upwards,
00:22 with two additional floors added to the building to create more area for flats and amenity spaces such as a sky lounge.
00:30 The application for the South Street building was deferred in June by Worthing Borough Council's planning committee
00:35 due to fire safety concerns over the internal design layout, sprinklers and fire escapes.
00:40 But now it has been approved following updated fire safety plans.
00:44 Drivers in Horsham say they are confused and worried about traffic signs in a one way road.
00:49 They say the Barrington Road near Horsham train station is now chaotic.
00:53 The road is one way with residence parking on both sides, leaving only a narrow one way gap in the middle.
00:59 But cyclists can now use the road in both directions.
01:02 A spokesperson for West Sussex County Council, which is responsible for the road scheme,
01:07 said that Contraflow Cycling had been introduced successfully in other parts of the country and had undergone a number of safety audits.
01:14 A housing development in West Sussex will be delayed after a construction firm appointed administrators.
01:20 Westridge Construction has been building 49 new council homes in Southwick since 2021.
01:26 However, the company has now gone into administration, which has meant that work on the site in Albion Street has stopped.
01:32 Ada District Council said it will take action to make sure its development is completed at no extra cost.
