00:29 Welcome into an instant reaction for the Patreon Nation Podcast here.
00:38 Of course, this episode is brought to you by FanDuel, which is the official wagering partner of the CLNS.
00:46 Boys and girls, I haven't caught my breath yet. I'm a little out of breath.
00:54 That was outrageous and unnecessarily outrageous.
00:59 It didn't need to be like that. It didn't need to be like that.
01:04 The Patriots, they won. Thank God. Thank God that they won.
01:10 But they almost didn't win. And it was really bad. It was really bad.
01:15 I'm just watching the Vikings just lose of a TJ Hawkinson drop.
01:22 But, you know, as good as it looked in the first half, and it looked good at times, it was awful in the second half. Awful.
01:34 The offense was atrocious in the second half.
01:37 And look, you know, we'll talk about some of the officiating. I thought the officiating was awful.
01:42 So we'll talk about some of that. But like, the officiating was terrible. The offense was atrocious.
01:48 And the defense, look, I mean, they gave up one drive against the Jets. One.
01:54 And like, that's going to happen because it's the NFL.
01:58 And I know Zach Wilson is one of the worst quarterbacks I've ever seen play football.
02:02 But like, there's still NFL players on the field.
02:05 Like, you know, like they can still make some plays and they made some plays and he played.
02:09 He had an OK drive that drive. And that was really the only thing that they had going for them.
02:13 But at some point, you know, someone in the offense had to make a play and they didn't.
02:21 They just, they didn't. Never. Nobody on the offense made a play.
02:28 I was excited about Juju because I thought Juju had a chance to be better than Jacobi Myers.
02:34 I thought that Juju was going to be an upgrade to Myers.
02:37 I thought he was going to be a little bit more explosive than what Myers provided.
02:42 And he hasn't been bad. He's been atrocious. He's been awful. He's been pitiful.
02:48 He's been one of the worst receivers on the team.
02:50 I would honestly like to see him get benched and have Keisha and booty back out there.
02:57 Because Juju gives you absolutely nothing right now. Nothing. He gives you nothing.
03:02 He hasn't done anything from the slot. Doesn't get open effectively.
03:08 He's not on the same page at Mac Jones. I've seen almost zero explosiveness from him.
03:14 I just, I don't, I simply don't understand it. I do not understand what he's supposed to bring to the team.
03:21 He looks awful. And so I just like, that's a really, really bad, that's a big problem for the Patriots.
03:30 And I know, you know, it's like one third Thornton is hurt, but like he didn't really do much last year.
03:35 He was fine last year, but he didn't do that much last year.
03:38 Like I'm not, I can't imagine you're betting on him to, you know, to be like, oh, you know, he's the reason we're getting, no, like that's not going to happen.
03:47 And so maybe Demar'a Douglas will look better and he'll be better over the, over the course of the year.
03:52 But like right now there's just no one making plays. Right.
03:55 And Kendrick Bourne had a pretty good day today. I thought a decent day, you know, but we'll see.
04:02 And this, listen, we can be upset about this all we want, right?
04:06 Trash drafts for five plus years is just not true. This is not, I'm sorry. It's just not true.
04:10 Jack Jones and Marcus Jones both didn't play. Christian Gonzalez, let me tell you something.
04:14 Let me tell you something. I don't care who's playing quarterback.
04:17 It doesn't matter who's playing quarterback. It could be me out there playing quarterback.
04:20 Garrett Wilson's the best receiver on the field by a long shot.
04:23 He's the best receiver on the field and he got locked down today, locked down.
04:29 Now it may not look like it in the final, you know, I don't know what that final catch was.
04:32 That was like a 30 yard catch or whatever over the middle.
04:35 They gave him that catch, right. He got absolutely locked down.
04:41 And so, you know, that's, that's one of those things.
04:43 And the hard thing about, about, you know, it's the free agency stuff that you look at and you say, you know,
04:50 I think KB is a fine player. Devante Parker is a fine player, but like, you know, choosing Juju over Myers
04:58 looks like a big mistake. And that's, that's a mistake that you can't make in this situation, unfortunately,
05:03 because the Patriots are in a situation where they needed another wide receiver.
05:08 And I get it. I understand. I do understand that they were trying to upgrade the position a little bit.
05:15 I understand that. But Myers is a well-liked guy. You knew what you had in him.
05:19 He was your most reliable receiver for the last like three years.
05:23 I don't know why he just didn't stick around, you know?
05:25 And again, I know you're trying to do more. You're trying to do more than just, hey, he's reliable.
05:30 But still, I just, you know, it wasn't good and it hasn't looked good from him.
05:38 But, you know, I mean, this guy says it right here.
05:41 Oh, where is it? Thank God they were playing Zach Wilson.
05:45 I mean, that's, that's the truth right there. Thank God they were playing Zach Wilson.
05:51 Like that's he was awful. He was awful.
05:56 So and again, we have one guy from the 2022 draft playing. That's correct, because they're all hurt.
06:01 Like, what do you want? Like, again, Marcus Jones and Jack Jones have proven they are pretty good players.
06:05 Like, I think the drafting isn't necessarily the issue. So it is what it is.
06:09 And listen, people are going to disagree and that's fine, you know, but but at the end of the day, we'll see what happens.
06:15 Listen. We can talk about how much Denver sucks, but Miami hung seventy three hundred or seventy on Denver today.
06:24 Seventy seven zero. Seventy to twenty. They won.
06:28 They scored twenty four against the Patriots last week with Jaylen Waddell playing most of the game.
06:32 Jaylen Waddell didn't play at all in this game. So we can talk about, you know, Denver not being good.
06:36 And, you know, it was in Miami and blah, blah, blah, blah.
06:38 We can talk about all that stuff. But like the Patriots defense is legit.
06:41 They're legit. They're a very good defense. OK. And so, you know, I think that that's going to be one of those things where I look at it and say, hey, you know, yeah, sure.
06:53 We wish we would have gotten more. But I think we look back at the end of the season and we say, I wish we won one of those games because we had a chance to win one of those games.
07:00 Right. But look, really, what this game comes down to is the offense. Right.
07:06 They had a busted coverage which allowed for the long Farrow Farrow Brown touchdown. I mean, Farrow Brown, for goodness sake, is the one that's worth the Patriots. Right.
07:16 So they had the long Farrow Brown touchdown. And then, you know, the the referees tonight, they were the referees today were awful.
07:26 They were awful. I don't understand, you know, the the non pass interference call. There were a few non pass interference call.
07:36 There were a few of them that I didn't I didn't understand. And then the one that gets called.
07:41 The ones get called is the one of Miles Bryant. Like I just know it doesn't it doesn't make any sense.
07:46 And sure, I pushed him, I guess. But like he's in the back of the end zone, the throws not even catchable.
07:51 There's no way he's going to get back there. I don't understand where that where that call is coming from.
07:56 And so you give the Jets a touchdown because of a bad call. And then on third and one, when Max when Matt goes up the middle.
08:05 OK, third and one when Matt goes up the middle and and you see Matt go up the middle and he's like, all right, you know, fine.
08:14 He runs extra. First of all, they blow the play dead, but fine. He runs extra into mostly then mostly grabs him, body slams him on the ground, which it's the quarterback.
08:23 You probably shouldn't do that. But hey, you let it go, I guess.
08:27 Then Matt gets up and sauce Gardner shoves him to the ground. And this still isn't a penalty.
08:32 So like the fact that they you know, that game should have been over. Right.
08:36 If either of those penalties, you call the games over at that point. But, you know, they don't get called.
08:41 And that's that's just the way it goes sometimes. Right. And so, you know, look, you can't I mean, the Patriots won.
08:48 So it ultimately doesn't matter. But you can't sit here saying, oh, this would have been different if the Patriots, you know, if the refs were better or this would have been different, the refs are better.
08:56 But like, you know, I just. That's that's the frustrating part. That's the frustrating part for me.
09:04 That, you know, it's. It's just you left a lot out there on the field, man, you left a lot out there on the field.
09:11 So and I thought I think Matt look, Mac looked decent. Right.
09:17 He looked better in the first half, I thought, but then some of his decision making the second half, I didn't understand where he's going with the ball.
09:23 Sometimes I'm like, where are you throwing it? You know what I mean? And, you know, so I just I didn't like it.
09:30 And look, he finished with two hundred one yards passing, but, you know, 60 was a 68 of it, 68 of it on one play.
09:37 So like it's not, you know, I mean, that was it was bad and he played I thought he played very well in the first half.
09:45 Look, they missed two field goals in the first half. Right. Just to hear they missed two field goals in the first half.
09:51 So they were in scoring position four times. Right. Once they scored the touchdown, of course, and four times they were they were able to line up for a field goal.
09:59 And, you know, it didn't work out. Now, I thought both of those misses from Ryland.
10:04 It was a high snap from Cardona threw off, you know, it threw off the timing for Ryland.
10:10 And so I wouldn't necessarily blame that on the kid, but I will say, yeah, OK, one of you know, one of the issues they're moving forward is this.
10:21 But that has to that has to change like Ryland can't miss those even if the snap is bad, he can't miss them.
10:29 And so that becomes that becomes a situation there. So, you know, look, I mean, 15 for 29, Matt Jones is barely over 50 percent passing for two hundred one yards passing on a touchdown.
10:39 Like it just it wasn't good. And again, the second half was rough.
10:44 They were able to throw a little bit more, a little bit more, not a lot more, but a little bit more than they did.
10:52 You know. So but again, you know, it's it's a question of, you know, what Mandy finished with 60 yards rushing Zeke finishes with 80 yards rushing like they ran for 140 yards, which is fine.
11:08 But like it's still not what you're looking for when you need to be a running team.
11:14 Like I understand the Patriots can throw the ball and Mac had 96 passing attempts in the first two games.
11:18 But like if the Patriots are going to be a good team, if the Patriots are going to win nine to ten to 11 games or 10 games, right, then, you know, then you look at it and say, all right, it's got to be, you know, you have to look at this and say.
11:35 We have to be running football team, we have to be able to run the ball and they could run the ball at times, but not consistently, not consistently.
11:45 And so, you know, it just it becomes one of those things that you look at and just say this, this has to be better moving forward.
11:53 And again, I think it will think it will. So I don't know people listen.
11:57 I get it. I understand people are down on the Patriots right now and I don't blame them.
12:02 I don't blame them at all. They played in a very good Jets defense today, a very good Jets defense today.
12:12 Yes, they only scored whatever it was, 13 points, right?
12:16 Wasn't good. But.
12:19 He's they, you know, they won the game, they won the game.
12:24 And the Dolphins have scored 70 this week against against the Broncos and, you know, and Mike Mike points out that the Dolphins pre snap motion snap is a pre motion snap is a cheat code.
12:37 Wasn't a cheat code against the Patriots yesterday, last week.
12:40 I mean, I'll just say that it wasn't a cheat code against the Patriots last week.
12:44 Right. So as much as we want to sit here and talk about, oh, hey, it's this and it's that and it's this and it's this and it's this.
12:53 The other day, the Patriots were in that game against both the Dolphins and and they were in that game against the Eagles, too.
13:02 So, you know, look, am I going to sit here and say the Patriots are a great team and they're this?
13:07 No, I'm not. But they won. And ultimately, the only thing you have to do is win.
13:13 The only thing you get credit for in the NFL is winning.
13:15 You don't get credit for, well, that team has a really good offense and we played well against them.
13:19 You don't get credit for, well, the team's defense is really great and we like scored a few.
13:22 But you don't get credit for any of that crap. You get credit for wins and the Patriots won.
13:26 And so ultimately, what it comes down to is they have to continue to win.
13:31 They have to just keep winning. Now they're going into Dallas next year, next week.
13:35 Is that going to be a really tough test? It absolutely is going to be a really hard game.
13:39 It's going to be a really hard game. OK, but it's not impossible for the Patriots to win that game.
13:45 It's unlikely, but it's not impossible for the Patriots to win that game.
13:49 I think with some things going in their way, in their favor, I think it can.
13:54 OK, so but we'll see. And look, once again, we get into the second half with the offense.
14:01 And they're making mistakes left and right.
14:03 Trent Brown's false start. Mike Onwenu false start.
14:06 Then we're talking about, you know, a drop pass by Armando Stephenson.
14:09 We're talking about a holding call. We're talking about this with it.
14:12 It just they started to shoot themselves in the foot again and again and again and again and again.
14:17 And so that's that's one of the issues. So and someone asked about Colstrange.
14:21 Did he get pulled? Colstrange did not get pulled. At least that's not what that's not what I heard.
14:26 OK, what I what I heard was that Colstrange got was getting looked at for treatment.
14:35 So his leg, which is what was bothering him in the first place, his leg was bothering him.
14:42 He got pulled and they and they checked him out. OK, so.
14:47 So we'll see, you know, Zach Wilson, the defense case you're wondering, I don't know, seven points against Zach Wilson.
14:53 They didn't put you in play defense. And I will say about Zach Wilson.
14:59 He was awful, but usually against the Patriots, he doesn't just lose the game like he he's not just bad,
15:08 he like outwardly loses the game for the Patriots or for the Jets. Right.
15:12 And that wasn't the case today. And so if you're a Jets fan, I guess you could sit there and say, hey, you know,
15:22 look at this. He didn't lose the game, you know, but but, you know, I mean, he some of his decision making,
15:28 I'm like, what do you what are you even looking at? You know, he just he doesn't make his reads in time.
15:33 And look, the Patriots look. The Patriots played very good defense.
15:39 They played very good defense against them. All right. And so don't sit here and talk about how you know.
15:45 And look, it's it you're not wrong. If you say that Zach Wilson stinks, you're not wrong.
15:51 You're right. Zach Wilson does stink. But the Patriots played very well against him today as well.
15:57 Right. And so for me personally, right. I looked at it and said, hey, we don't have Jack Jones.
16:04 We don't have Marcus Jones. We don't have John Jones. Now, those are our that's quarterback number two,
16:10 quarterback number three and quarterback number four. That's two, three and four right there.
16:15 Right. So like so you look at that and you sit there and you say, you know, all right, we're down,
16:22 you know, quarterbacks two through four. And you still put out you still put up a pretty good game.
16:27 Miles Bryant had a pretty good game. You know, he had that one penalty against them that, you know,
16:31 didn't look great. But overall, I thought he played fine. Sean Wade, the best thing I can say about Sean Wade,
16:38 is that I didn't think about Sean Wade once today. That's pretty good. That's pretty good.
16:45 I was worried Sean Wade was going to get burned over the field. I don't care who he's covering.
16:48 And he and he looked pretty good. And listen, listen. OK. Yes. You want to call me a clown because
16:55 I'm saying that I'm praising the defense for being good. Well, like, sorry. Sorry.
17:02 Like the defense was good. Yes. I know you expect the defense to be good every year,
17:08 but like the defense isn't good every year for every team in the NFL. It's not how it works. Right.
17:14 So like, yes, we can sit here and talk about the offense, but like at the same time,
17:18 the defense playing as good as they did is impressive. It just is like I'm sorry, but it is so.
17:24 Yes. No, that's my only highlight. Talk about the defense. I've been talking about the offense for the last 10 minutes,
17:29 but that's OK. So anyways, it is what it is.
17:34 You know, people are upset in the chat and that's all right. It's OK. It's all right to be upset.
17:38 Listen, this is like an old school Patriots game where people are pissed that they won, but they won ugly.
17:44 And it's like, no, it's not OK that we won. You needed to have done this in order for it to be good enough to win.
17:50 But that's not good enough. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
17:52 No, the win wasn't good enough. Wasn't good enough that they won.
17:55 They had to do this. And because they didn't do this, I'm very upset that the Patriots won.
18:00 It makes me very mad that the Patriots won today because I wish that they had done this instead.
18:06 OK, I do, too. But they did win. Right.
18:09 Like so I can sit here and say that the offense should have played better.
18:15 And I can sit here and say that Mac should have played better, which I did. Right.
18:20 And and, you know, Walters pointed out the remanded drop, which was a huge play.
18:24 You know, and that's another example of the offense shooting themselves in the foot where they're making silly mistakes and they're dropping passes that should have been caught.
18:31 And, you know, easy plays that they should be able to make it. They're not making.
18:36 Mac Jones made some the offensive line made some the receivers made some like everyone's responsible and everyone's accountable.
18:43 Right. But at the end of the day. Right.
18:47 At the end of the day. The Patriots won the game and they did enough to win.
18:52 OK. And so was it perfect? No.
18:55 Did I want better from them? Absolutely. Am I looking for the offense to improve?
19:00 Yeah. You're not going to play against against Zach Wilson and the Jets.
19:04 You're not going to play against them every week. OK.
19:07 And so and again, you're not going to do that every week. And we have the Cowboys next week, which is going to be tough.
19:13 Although the Cowboys are currently losing to the Cardinals three nothing. But it's early.
19:16 But still, you know, but that's the way it goes.
19:20 All right. I'm glad you don't care. But thanks for watching. I appreciate it.
19:23 We got to wait for my sponsors and we'll be back. OK.
19:27 To talk a little bit more. It will go a little bit more in depth on a few different places.

20:23 All right. So let's get let's get back into the offense a little bit.
20:33 OK, because we saw what happened in the first half.
20:37 OK, they were able to move the ball. They got into they got into field goal range a few times.
20:44 Right. I know one of them was a long they attempted what, 60 yard field goal or something like that.
20:50 Right. At the end of the half. So fine. OK, but they got into field goal range twice.
20:54 They scored the one touchdown and of course, broken coverage, but still touchdowns a touchdown.
20:58 Right. Bad part of the defense, but whatever, you know. So but here's what I'll say.
21:04 OK, for me, at least I look at it and, you know, the offense, we're back to the same old story.
21:11 They're shooting themselves in the foot. OK, they're shooting themselves in the foot offensively.
21:16 You got guys jumping offsides for false starts. You got holding penalties.
21:20 You got Mac Jones missing guys. You got guys running the wrong route.
21:23 You got guys dropping passes. You got you got calls. I don't I didn't understand the calls.
21:29 I didn't get it. You know, and so that was one of those things that I didn't understand.
21:35 There's a play where was it Douglas?
21:38 Amari Douglas had his guy beat on a route. And so, you know, and I don't know what happened to the Kyles on Twitter had said that he thought Mac under through the ball to Douglas.
21:51 Tony Romo on the broadcast thought that Douglas should have gone outside and that's where the throw was, too.
21:55 I don't know. I don't know what the call was. I don't know what the route was going to. I don't know.
21:59 I have no idea. Either way, the play didn't get made. Right.
22:03 And it looked like it should have been a completion and again, possibly a touchdown, depending on what the route was.
22:09 You know, and that's and that's not obviously that's not what you're looking for. Right.
22:14 And so are the receivers not on the same page? And again, I talked about it at the beginning.
22:18 Juju's been awful, awful, just absolutely terrible. And again, I'd rather see Keisha on booty on the field than Juju, because I know Keisha booty's going to get better because he's a rookie.
22:28 And I've seen the explosiveness that he has, I might have been freshman year in college when he was a true freshman LSU, but I've seen that.
22:35 I haven't seen it from Juju, not since he was in Pittsburgh. Right.
22:39 And so I don't I don't know what I don't know what we're looking at. And so for me, yeah, no, for me, it's a it's a no.
22:47 It's a it's a I'm all set. I'll pass. I'll pass on Juju. All right.
22:53 So, you know, like that's no thank you. So so now you say, OK, well, now what?
22:59 Well, take one. Thornton comes back after week, you know, week five. Theoretically, if he's healthy, he comes back week five.
23:04 But I mean, he was fifth on the fifth or sixth on the depth chart and training camp.
23:09 Like, I don't know how much you can expect from him. And so, you know, I just I just don't know.
23:15 I just don't know what what we're looking at. And so, you know, it's frustrating.
23:20 It's frustrating. And people are pissed and they're frustrated. I don't blame them.
23:24 I don't blame people for being upset at the offense. The offense has been bad. All right.
23:28 And the offense, we we expected more to the offense. But here's what I don't understand. Right.
23:33 This is what I don't get with people. Right. What I understand from people.
23:39 We knew this game was going to look like this going into this game. I mean, anyone think we're going to win 38 to three?
23:44 Like going into this game, we knew this game was going to be like this because the Jets have a top 10 defense in the NFL.
23:52 They do. They have a top 10 defense in the NFL. The Patriots also have a top 10 defense in the NFL. Right.
23:58 So we look at it and say, well, all right, both of those team. Both have really, really good.
24:06 Right. Really, really good defenses. They have offenses that are mid to bad.
24:12 The Jets offense is bad. Patriots offense is mid. Not going to be a lot of points scored.
24:18 I mean, I feel like that was I feel like if you took the under today, by the way, in my in my puppets for the week,
24:26 if you listen in my puppets the week I pick Mac Jones under 225 passing yards for the day because I knew it would be a tough matchup.
24:33 And guess what? It hit because I knew it was going to be a tough matchup and there was no way he was going to throw for 300 yards today against a Jets defense that's solid.
24:40 And so like, what are we doing? Like, we can sit there and talk about it and say that the offense sucked, which they did.
24:48 And that Mac Jones is terrible, which I don't think was true in the first half. I think he was OK in the first half.
24:54 I think he looked worse in the second half. OK, but I think, you know, the Jets maybe did some different things that may have confused him or, again, may have confused some of their players.
25:04 Right. I don't know. I don't know what the receivers look like. And again, it's hard not knowing what the routes are. It's hard not knowing what the route combinations are.
25:11 It's hard. I don't know. Right. And so, you know, you see Juju fall down on a back shoulder throw.
25:21 Well. Oh, if Rogers is playing the Jets, when you think so, you see Juju fall down on a back shoulder throw, he wasn't ready for the back shoulder.
25:30 Well, was it a back shoulder throw? I don't know. Like, was that the read that it was a back shoulder throw and Juju wasn't ready for it?
25:35 I don't know the answer to that question. Right. You know, and Parker made a few plays. And so it's just like you don't I don't know what that's going to be.
25:44 I don't know what you know, what you who you're looking at. Who do you want to blame? I know everyone wants to blame Mac Jones and I don't blame everyone for wanting to blame Mac Jones.
25:51 He is the he's the starter. He's the quarterback. Right. He's the quarterback. So I understand you sit there and look at it and say, all right.
26:00 He's the quarterback. He gets all the blame when they're really good. He gets all the hype. Right. That's the way it goes.
26:07 That's the that's the position in the NFL. But at the end of the day, like, I don't know what you expect from this team.
26:12 They're playing one of the best defense in the league next week. They're going to play one of the best defense league again.
26:18 It just so happens that in their first four games, they're playing three. And I would argue and I know Denver's Miami's defense isn't isn't amazing.
26:28 But I would argue Miami's defense, the top 15 defense in the league, too. So you look at it and say the top the first four games are playing really good defenses.
26:37 Right. So it just is what it is, man. It is what it is. And so, you know, do I want do I expect more from Mac Jones?
26:47 I do. I do. Do I want more from Mac Jones? I absolutely do. What I will say, he did a nice job taking care of the football today.
26:55 He did a better job of not throwing interceptions. That's a good thing. Right. And so it's not much.
27:02 I get it. But it's something it's something, you know, and so and so that's that's the issue for me.
27:10 Right. And the Patriots, Robert, has a good question about the Patriots schedule.
27:14 Patriots schedule is just is just the way it fell, unfortunately. And the way it fell was that they got the AFC.
27:23 I'm sorry, they got the NFC West. No, they got the NFC East. Jesus. They got they got the NFC East.
27:30 Right. And then they got the AFC West, which is filled with good teams. Right. Now, the Chargers.
27:37 I'm sad. The Chargers actually won today. I was hoping they'd lose, but they actually won today.
27:42 I think they suck. Denver stinks like Denver's own through the stink. OK, so it looks bad.
27:48 But like, you know, it's one of those things where I look at it and say, well, some of those teams are going to be as good as as we think they are.
27:55 Right. We thought before the season, oh, my God, the Chargers and the Broncos and the Raiders are going to be really tough teams.
28:00 They're not they're not very good. Sorry, they're not very good.
28:04 So, you know, and so it just it gets one of those things, right.
28:09 It gets one of those situations where you say, all right, they have a tough stretch, but the middle of the season is is ripe for the taking.
28:17 There's not a lot of good teams in the middle of season. So they do have they do have some issues.
28:24 They have some some some wins, I think, in the middle of that.
28:28 Look, Mike says I get nervous whenever Mac throws deep outside. I mean, it hasn't been good.
28:34 It hasn't been good deep outside. But I also I also will will will sit there and say that.
28:46 They also. Have missed on some of those he's had guys open and guys have dropped them.
28:55 They've had plays that are there that they just don't get.
28:59 So it's you know, it's the way it goes. But, you know, the chat is mad today, mad today and pulling out all sorts of crazy stuff.
29:11 But nevertheless, so, you know, it was rough.
29:15 It was a rough game today. And you walk away from this game not feeling very good about the Patriots.
29:20 You walk away this game saying, I mean, they won, I guess. But like, man, that was ugly.
29:25 You know, it was it was ugly. It was really ugly. And again, Matthew Judon gets the safety to push it to 15.
29:32 Thank God, because the end of the game, the Jets have a score touchdown.
29:36 I said it just could go. And so, you know, the Patriots had two chances to ice it.
29:40 Now, I will say the second one was really just run the ball because we're not really trying to score necessarily.
29:50 We're all we're trying to do is not, you know, not turn the ball over, not stop the clock and just run as much of the clock out as we possibly can.
29:59 So the Jets get the ball back, which they did with what, 16 seconds left.
30:02 And so, you know, I understand. I get it. But at the same time, it's the way it goes.
30:08 You know what I mean? So but yeah, but we'll see.
30:13 You know, and I think again, people are upset. I don't blame you. People hate Mac.
30:18 That's OK. It's all right. It's OK if you hate Mac. And I don't I don't necessarily blame you.
30:24 But, you know, I think let's give it a little bit more time before we sit there and talk about how, you know, the Patriots, this Patriots team is terrible and they're no good.
30:32 And then this and that and so on and so forth. Let's just see what happens next week. Let's just see what happens.
30:36 I'm not saying they're going to I'm saying they're going to beat the Cowboys, but let's just see how they build along this.
30:42 So they build along this. OK, and I'll tell you what, I'll tell you what. I have had discussion with people.
30:49 B from Ohio, appreciate you, man. I appreciate you. Zappa needs a shot because Mac is no good and everyone hates him.
30:55 OK, or no one hates him. Apparently, you just think Mac isn't good. I'll tell you what.
30:59 Bailey Zappi is so good. He is so good that 31 other teams in the NFL, 31 teams in the NFL said our backup is better than you.
31:11 31 other teams said, no, no, no, we're good with our backup. We're all set. We don't want this guy. That's how good Bailey Zappi is.
31:18 So I'm sorry, but he ain't the answer. OK, so, you know, look, and again, Mac's the guy for 2023.
31:26 You want to draft someone next year? And if Mac continues to play this way, I think you probably should draft someone next year.
31:32 Right. OK, this was the year that we had to decide whether Mac was going to be the guy or not.
31:38 OK, and so so far through three games, it's been very up and down.
31:44 He's had some nice moments, but right now I'm not giving this guy the keys.
31:48 Right. And so I think it's I think it's a situation where you look at it and say, you know, you've seen some good things from him.
32:00 But not consistently enough. He's not consistently good. He's good at times, but he's not consistently good.
32:11 And so, you know, it's the way it goes. And again, again, people are upset. Be upset.
32:17 That's totally fine. Be upset about it. All right. But again, I just you know, what do you want them to do?
32:25 They have to play someone and Mac is the guy. And so, again, maybe he gets it figured out by the end of the year.
32:31 And if he doesn't, then the Patriots have to quarterback next year. So that's just the way it goes. Right.
32:38 And so I was hoping that Mac would look better this year.
32:42 I'm still holding out hope that he'll still end up being all right this year and he'll be able to put together.
32:48 Because, listen, he's made some he's made some really nice throws. Yes.
32:54 And you say whatever you he's made some really nice reads. He's made some he made a really nice pass to DeMario Douglas on the outside today.
33:01 He made a great pass to Kendrick Bourne over the middle today. He made some really nice throws today.
33:07 And he made some really nice reads and he checked into some plays where they were checked into the wrong play, checked into something else.
33:13 And it looked great. And so there are things that you see, which is awesome.
33:19 But you don't see it consistently enough. And that's the issue that I have with Matt Jones is just not consistent enough.
33:25 I think he sucks. I think he's the worst quarterback in the league. I don't think he's this or this or there.
33:29 I don't. But he hasn't been consistent enough. And that's the issue that Matt Jones has.
33:36 And so we'll see if he can get more consistent as the year goes on. We'll see if Juju can show up.
33:44 If DeMario Douglas, you know, shows up a little bit more than he's been doing.
33:50 But again, it's just one of those it's one of those things, right, where you sit there and say, hey, we got to see.
33:56 And if we don't have the guy, then we move on. Right. We haven't signed him to a long term extension.
34:02 We haven't you know, we drafted him in the first round at number 15. But let me tell you something, man, we drafted him at 15.
34:09 OK. Twenty twenty one draft, you have Trevor Lawrence, who was generational talent, a generational talent.
34:15 I mean, as a true freshman, he would have been the number one pick in the draft.
34:18 Generational talent, number one. Number two pick was Zach Wilson. Yikes.
34:23 Number three pick was Trey Lance, who currently is a backup on the Cowboys. Yikes.
34:29 Number 10 pick was Justin Fields. And listen, I was as high on Justin Fields as anyone.
34:32 I was pissed that the Bears moved up the draft. Justin Fields. I wanted the Patriots to Jeff Fields.
34:36 And I traded for him in like three fancy leagues this year because I was like, this is the year just was going to be great.
34:41 And he's terrible. And he's been dreadful. And maybe it's the offense and maybe the issue.
34:46 I don't know. But he has been atrocious through two games.
34:51 This year, he was bad last year, too, and he ran the ball effectively.
34:55 But other than that, he was bad last year, too. So, you know, it's not as though, oh, they had the opportunity to draft some.
35:03 No, they didn't. They didn't. They did. Maybe they should have waited in Jeff Davis Mills because that one worked out well.
35:08 Right. So it's just those things are the things that we look at it. Right.
35:14 And and so. I'm not saying that Mac is the best player in the league.
35:19 I'm not saying that he's even a guy that I want to invest in in the future because I'm not 100 percent sure that he is.
35:25 And again, through three games, I haven't necessarily seen anything that makes me believe that he is the guy I want to invest in the future.
35:33 OK, so but. He has shown some things he's shown to be better than Bailey's happy, Bailey's happy, had a horrendous preseason.
35:44 I mean, just awful. I mean, he looked like the worst one on the field, like the worst player on the field.
35:49 And so you can't put Bailey's happy in there. And the Patriots know that.
35:53 So is everyone else. Max, the guy in 2023. And then we reassess next year and see what happens.
35:59 You know, and if you have to if you have to draft someone else, you draft someone else, you know, but given the year, let's see.
36:05 And then we go from there. And listen, if he's as bad as everyone thinks he is, if he's as bad as everyone thinks he is, maybe you end up with Drake.
36:12 Man, you're not going to kill him. That's not going to happen because it's 20.
36:15 There's too many bad teams that are going to be that are going to be near the bottom.
36:19 Right. Between Chicago and and Arizona.
36:26 Right now, Arizona has, you know, Arizona has Houston's pick.
36:29 Of course, Houston was a big win today, but Arizona has Houston's pick next year, too.
36:32 So. If right, if if if Houston's terrible this year to Arizona might have one and two or one and three, and maybe then you trade up for a guy, you know, for guy like Drake May or whatever.
36:43 So I don't know. Again, I don't know. So it just it becomes an issue for me where I look at it and say, hey, you know.
36:52 Maybe he's not the guy. Maybe he's not the guy. And people listen.
36:56 I just I don't what I don't understand what I don't understand is that people are upset about Mac Jones like like we sign him as a big time free agent this year or like, you know, they just sign him to a huge contract extension or something.
37:12 I just there there's nothing to be upset about right now. Like he may not be the guy. That's true.
37:18 But like we can't city, we can sit here and talk crap about him for an hour if you want. But like we have to we have to at least talk about there are ways that he can improve because we see some good things on the field at times.
37:30 That's not I mean, that's not homerism talking right. That's not homerism talking.
37:36 That's that's me watching the game. If you're watching the game, there are times you watch the game. Well, nice play. Nice read. That's a nice throw.
37:46 You know, like and so and so that's the way it goes, right?
37:51 And people say they don't invest in offense and I have a I have a piece coming out for Pat's book and I'm very excited about look at the draft. I use the the Rich Hill draft chart. Matter of fact, use the Rich Hill draft chart to look at the value of every pick.
38:06 And so the amount of value that they've placed into the draft for offense versus defense, I think you'll find it interesting. And we can also talk about some free agent.
38:16 I wasn't going to talk about free agent guys, but we can talk about free agent guys as well. So I think I think that that's interesting. So but we'll see.
38:23 Anyways, look, I feel like we're sitting here talking about a loss. It's a win. Papers are one and two. OK, it wasn't pretty, but they won. They won. OK, so let's not forget that, please.
38:36 And listen, as much as you wanted something more than that, OK? They beat the Jets, right?
38:48 Dark blue gold read my mind. You beat the Jets 15 in a row. It's a great week because you beat the Jets. Now, listen, you can be upset about it.
38:58 And Ryan says it's a moral loss. So, look, I mean, it's got to the same thing is funny. But but look, I agree that it wasn't pretty. It was an ugly game.
39:10 I agree with all of that. OK, but at the end of the day, you won. Right. And if that's the situation, if you have to look at it and say, look, you know, the Patriots, if they're really going to compete, they have to play better than that.
39:23 Of course they do. They have to play much better offense than that for sure. OK, but. It was enough to get them a win today. All right. And we can talk about how it won't be enough to get them a win in, you know, what do they got?
39:36 14 games left in 13 more games. It won't be enough to get him a win. It will be against the Jets again, but it won't be. It won't be enough to get them a win in 13 other games this year.
39:45 But it was enough today. And that's all that's all you can say. That's all you can say. So anyways, all right. I'm out of here. The chat was blowing up today. I appreciate it. And, you know, yeah.
40:00 Thanks for thanks for commenting, even with your wild conspiracy theories and crazy stuff. But anyways, appreciate it. And I will talk to you. We'll be back Wednesday night and and we'll go from there.
40:13 So, hey, listen, you know, they won. We beat the Jets. Like, take a deep breath. OK, take a deep breath. We beat the Jets. It's all right. All right. I'll see you guys later on in the week.
