00:13 L'Oreal for the future, the sustainability strategy with goals for 2030.
00:18 Alluminium, Italy is the leader in recycling, the new economic and regulatory scenarios.
00:25 In the forum "Sustainability 2023" held at the Palace of Information of the ADN Kronos,
00:31 L'Oreal illustrated the strategy of the group in terms of sustainability.
00:36 The first formalization of this commitment by L'Oreal was in 2013 with the "Sharing Beauty with All" program,
00:44 a strategy for environmental and social sustainability.
00:47 In 2020, the group presented the new program "L'Oreal for the Future"
00:52 with goals for 2030 on water and biodiversity emissions, but also on social issues such as inclusion and diversity.
01:00 Our sustainability strategy is based mainly on three pillars.
01:04 The first pillar is about transforming ourselves,
01:08 therefore transforming our business, transforming our people,
01:12 our production facilities and our products.
01:15 The second pillar, on the other hand, is about transforming our business ecosystem,
01:21 such as all our suppliers, our customers,
01:25 and accompanying them on this journey of sustainable transformation.
01:29 The third pillar, on the other hand, is about the contribution that L'Oreal makes to global challenges.
01:35 These global challenges are climate challenges,
01:38 so L'Oreal is committed to a fund of 50 million euros to contribute to reforestation, to the regeneration of nature.
01:46 Or L'Oreal has established a fund of 50 million euros also for the circular economy,
01:51 therefore to support companies that are committed to circular solutions.
01:56 The third and last pillar is about Women Empowerment,
01:59 therefore all the support for women to ensure that they too can have the same opportunities.
02:05 These are the three pillars of the L'Oreal for the Future sustainability strategy.
02:09 In terms of sustainability, the reconversion of the production site of the 7th Turin,
02:14 which was built in 1960, represents an excellence of L'Oreal
02:19 and is integrated into the global context, serving about 30 countries in the world.
02:24 Today, however, it is an excellence for two reasons.
02:27 First of all, because since 2015 the site is carbon neutral,
02:31 which means that it is powered exclusively by renewable energies,
02:35 mainly hydroelectric energy,
02:38 and also because it has contributed through other interventions,
02:41 such as the installation of 14,000 solar panels,
02:44 to its energy efficiency,
02:47 in addition to other very important interventions in reducing consumption.
02:51 The second strength and excellence of our site of the 7th Turin
02:57 is the Water Loop project,
03:00 that is to recover all the water that comes from the plant.
03:05 Today, in fact, the only virgin water that is used is for human consumption,
03:09 so for the use of showers, or for the production of primary goods.
03:14 This highly technological Water Loop system allows us to save
03:19 about 40 million cubic meters of water per year,
03:22 more or less the equivalent of 80 semi-olympic swimming pools of 25 meters.
03:27 The 7th represents an example of sustainability also from a social point of view.
03:31 In fact, through its inclusion policy,
03:34 people with mental disabilities are employed today in the 7th,
03:38 and they work with us every day to be trained and then put into the workforce.
03:44 This is a beautiful example, through the ValeMur association,
03:47 which allows us to bring to life what is the commitment of L'Oreal for the Future,
03:52 that is, to give jobs to 100,000 people by 2030 with various difficulties.
03:59 Aluminum is the sharing material par excellence.
04:02 This is how much emerged in the press conference by the title "Recycling Aluminum,
04:06 Italy is the leader in Europe, risks and opportunities in the new economic and regulatory scenarios",
04:10 held at the Association Stampa Estera in Rome.
04:13 The initiative promoted by the National Consortium for Aluminum Packaging
04:16 was organized with the aim of making known the results derived from the activity
04:20 of recovering aluminum packaging, reached the end of their life cycle,
04:24 because, as emerged from the words of the spokesmen,
04:27 any product at the end of its life cycle has two layers in front of it,
04:30 that of being discarded and subsequently dismantled,
04:33 or recovered and subsequently recycled or reused.
04:36 In Italy today we have reached a recycling rate of 73.6%,
04:42 so far above the European target of 2030, which is 60%.
04:50 The reason for this success, for these interesting results,
04:55 is also given by the fact that the Italian consumption model
05:00 mainly includes, in 70% of cases,
05:04 a consumption in the domestic market and, for just over 30%, in the unique markets.
05:10 A legislative proposal is currently under discussion by the European Parliament,
05:14 which is aimed at promoting the sustainability and circularity of packaging
05:18 and also at promoting the reduction of packaging production and waste.
05:21 These are goals that Cial fully shares,
05:24 also because they are in line with aluminum, which we remember to be a light material
05:28 and recyclable to infinity, and therefore ideal for the production of sustainable packaging.
05:33 However, what is critical is the choice of the legislative instrument,
05:36 that is, that of the regulation, instead of a directive that could allow
05:41 the Member States to decide autonomously how and with which instruments
05:44 to achieve these goals, taking into account their own peculiarities and specificities.
05:49 During the meeting, numerous experts from the sector participated,
05:52 who were able to present the results of the recent Urban Mineral dossier,
05:56 conducted by the environmental policy scholar Duccio Bianchi.
05:59 But not only that, at the press conference,
06:01 the Association of Aluminum Refineries also intervened,
06:04 which was able to highlight the contribution made by the industry
06:07 in the sector in reference to the decarbonization process.
06:11 Historically, we are contributing because, thanks to us,
06:14 the aluminum we provide to our customers allows them to use a raw material
06:20 that has been produced with 95% less energy than the primary one,
06:26 and above all to have the possibility of having raw material of quality available on the market,
06:32 which feeds the entire Italian and European manufacturing industry.
