Designer Frederick Anderson has been in the fashion game for a long time. He first came to New York City to study dance at just 16 years old. Fast forward some years later with a fashion journey, and he draws inspiration for his collection from his love of ballet and a recent meeting with a dear friend and principal at the American Ballet Theatre, Catherine Hurlin, and her performance in Swan Lake . As such, Anderson's 'swans' are bold, elegant, fearless, and 'strong' in the shapes of luscious neutral leathers, crochets, crepes, sheer laces, and sequins. Win. Win. Take a Bow.

00:00 Hello, it's Frederick Anderson and you're watching Life Minute TV.
00:07 A year ago, a dear friend of mine, Kate Hurlen, became the principal dancer for ABT and I
00:16 went to see her in Swan Lake and I started thinking about the progress of my life. You
00:20 know, it's a journey. Just like in my collection, it's a journey, it's a journey in life. The
00:24 evolution of the swan for me is the story. And so at the end, we end up with my new swan.
00:29 My kind of idea of the evolution of my own story, shown through clothing, kind of.
00:36 I love Frederick and he loves dressing his women and they are all here. It was a beautiful
00:44 show.
00:45 I love the way Truman Capote put it about the swans, these elegant girls that like wear
00:49 your clothing. But like, you know, my swans are strong.
00:57 We're doing afros. Frederick is very adventurous with hair every season. Just is very adventurous
01:04 to do this. There's so many things that you can do with wigs that you normally maybe wouldn't
01:09 do with your own hair. There's so many wigs that you can choose from. That's what makes
01:13 it fun. It's like putting on hats.
01:15 The look today is very 60s. It's also, we took inspiration from Diana Ross. Frederick
01:21 sent me some inspiration images. We're going back and forth and we've got very dramatic
01:26 liner, very dramatic lashes, top and bottom. So the eyes are a really big feature. You
01:31 know, it's not a no makeup makeup look on this show this season. It really is a makeup
01:35 look. We've gone kind of a little bit out there and pushed it a bit more. And then we
01:39 have five surprise looks for you at the end of the catwalk. So we've got a little bit
01:42 of a variation of the look at the end. So it was a really amazing look to create with
01:46 Frederick but also very challenging backstage to get so many models ready.
01:55 It's exciting for me to shock people a little bit. To go to the moon one season and then
02:00 go to like the Vanderbilt mansion the next season. How fabulous is that? Like we're taking
02:04 you on a journey and you never know where I'm going next. You just never know and it
02:07 could be, you know, maybe Mars.
