Oregon Ducks quarterback Ty Thompson discusses his growth during the 2023 season.
Transcript
00:00 >> I think now playing a couple games this year,
00:02 just how do you feel like you've progressed as a quarterback throughout the season,
00:05 getting some time to play?
00:06 >> Yeah, I feel just very prepared.
00:08 These past couple weeks, I feel like we've had a really good game plan.
00:11 Like you said, I've progressed very extensively in the offseason.
00:16 Coach Stein's done a great job this whole offseason, so
00:19 I feel very happy with my performances.
00:21 >> What have you seen from your running back room?
00:24 It seems like every single game, at least one of them's gonna go off repping, but-
00:28 >> Yeah, the running backs we have are unreal.
00:30 We're so blessed to have the guys that we have.
00:32 And usually when people come back, like Bucky and Noah, like elder guys,
00:36 the younger guys will take off.
00:37 And Jordan and Dante Dowdell and Jay Lamar have all stuck around and
00:41 taking their role.
00:41 And when they get in, they do a great job.
00:43 So I'm just really happy for these guys.
00:45 They're being successful and doing their thing right now.
00:47 >> What was that read, or can you just walk us through that play,
00:50 that throw of Trey Shawn?
00:51 And he hit him perfectly in stride for the touchdown.
00:54 >> Hit Trey on a quick slant, handed it to him, ran his gun, and
00:57 he did the rest for me.
00:58 So Trey's a great player.
01:00 I love throwing to him and practicing games.
01:02 I'm happy that he got a couple of tugs today, so yeah.
01:04 >> You said before the play even happened, you guys were gonna connect big.
01:07 >> Five, no matter, it's third and long, had a fine five out there.
01:11 >> Can you just compare just how comfortable you feel right now compared to
01:15 coming into this situation a couple years ago, just with all your preparation as
01:20 a player, as a quarterback, as a leader, all that?
01:22 >> So I feel like I really managed my process and
01:25 really figured out what I do through the week, watching film,
01:28 taking reps in practice and doing stuff like that.
01:31 Being comfortable on the field comes with reps, and
01:33 I'm getting more reps and stuff like that.
01:34 So just more comfortability doing that.
01:37 I feel like I'm the same player, just kind of maturing in my game.
01:40 >> You had that too, that process, just figuring that out.
01:45 >> I think it comes with time, but having a leader in my room,
01:49 Bo, that just sets a great example, really paves the way for me.
01:53 >> Even Austin got a few snaps today.
01:58 What have you been telling him over the camps and just how do you try to help him?
02:02 >> Yeah, Austin's a great kid.
02:03 I love him, kind of taking him under my wing.
02:06 So I just tell him to keep his head up, always stay on top of everything,
02:10 no matter what.
02:11 He's two snaps away, really, so he get in games like this and he'll do his thing.
02:16 He's overly talented, great kid, one of the best kids you could ask for in a room.
02:20 So just tell him to keep focused, stay on top of this process and
02:24 keep doing his thing.
02:25 >> So last year, obviously, your number could be called at any point in the season.
02:29 So how much does that help you to have two games under your belt,
02:32 knowing that that can always happen?
02:34 >> Yeah, I mean, any extra reps make you feel better about yourself,
02:37 better about your game.
02:38 And I'm happy that I've had this experience this year and last year and
02:42 years prior.
02:42 So just building on top of reps, keeping the ball rolling downhill and
02:47 just maturing every week.
