00:00 So let's look back, Dr. Chow, before we look forward at Monday night football
00:03 and the two games that we have.
00:06 Another disappointing offensive effort resulting in their second consecutive
00:10 loss to start off the year for the Cincinnati Bengals.
00:14 After the game, Dr. Chow, Joe Burrow mentioned that he tweaked his calf a
00:17 little bit, of course, that right calf strain that kept him on the sideline
00:21 for most of training camp and throughout the preseason.
00:24 Like Zach Taylor, the head coach said, if he was planning to go back in the game,
00:29 if they had that extra possession, ultimately they come up short against Baltimore.
00:34 Dr. Chow, what do you think the long-term implications for Joe Burrow are this year
00:40 due to that right calf issue?
00:42 - Well, back on July 27th in training camp when we heard it, we said,
00:46 "He's going to be there week one, but there's a high chance for aggravation
00:50 and for lingering effect."
00:53 And now we're here.
00:55 At this point in time with it re-aggravated, it's going to affect him into October.
01:00 Is it early October or late October?
01:02 That's the question mark at this point in time.
01:05 And perhaps the other thing that we need to bring up is because it's his right calf
01:09 and push-off, it has potentially a greater effect.
01:12 At this point in time, it's not as simple as, "Well, let's just rest a week and then
01:16 you'll be good to go."
01:18 It's a multi-week deal, so which makes it hard to rest him,
01:21 but also because, you know, the Bengals don't have the same backup they had before.
01:26 You might see Joe Burrow obviously limited this week or out of some practice,
01:30 but when he does play, you might see him in an ankle-foot orthosis or some sort
01:34 of dynamic splint to help him, much like Dan Marino had back in the day
01:38 with his Achilles.
01:40 And yes, it limits his mobility some, but you don't really want Joe Burrow running
01:45 around right now.
01:46 You just want him in the pocket.
01:48 And obviously you gotta do something to shore up that protection for him a little bit.
