00:00 Hot Rod just got an upgrade as a character and a collectible.
00:04 Here's a look at the brand new 3-0 Transformers MDLX Rodimus Prime.
00:09 [intro]
00:38 MDLX Rodimus Prime is approximately 7 inches tall with over 46 points of articulation
00:43 and a die-cast zinc alloy and engineer grade plastic internal frame system.
00:47 Accessories include one laser blaster, one blaster rifle
00:51 and eight sets of interchangeable hands. The laser blaster and rifle can combine
00:55 to a photon eliminator rifle.
00:57 The right Rodimus Prime handshake piece is designed to pair with the included
01:01 Optimus Prime handshake piece for posing the two Autobot leaders together.
01:05 Luckily for Transformer fans, Rodimus Prime doesn't represent the
01:09 end of the road for what 3-0 are going to be doing with their MDLX series.
01:13 Before of course we get a closer look at the new leader of the Autobots, let me go
01:16 and first thank the folks over at 3-0 that did provide the sample we're about to have a look at.
01:20 FYI though, as it stands right now, Rodimus Prime
01:23 is slated to release the third quarter of 2023 for a price point again
01:28 at around $80, which I can't believe that they're selling these pieces for.
01:32 For the height of the figure, depending on of course whether you want to count
01:35 the spoiler that he has on the back of the body, if you did, then the figure is
01:38 going to be about almost eight inches in height or I would say maybe about 19
01:42 centimeters tall. But if you're going back to the basics and just looking at
01:45 the bottom self, Rodimus Prime on his own is seven inches in height or the
01:50 figure is going to be 17 centimeters tall. And because I already have a few of
01:55 these, let's bring a couple now for comparisons. Here's what Rodimus Prime
01:58 looks like with the former leader Optimus Prime, of course. Height-wise, I
02:02 would say Rodimus Prime is just a tad bit taller. I mean again, if you were to
02:06 say take the figures and put them say back-to-back, I guess on a head level
02:10 they're about the same. It's only just because again like Rodimus Prime does
02:13 have that very large spoiler in the back of his body that's probably giving him a
02:16 little more height over Prime. Other figures for comparisons, here's what he
02:19 also looks like with Megatron. I think that's the most recent we've looked at
02:22 for the MDLX series. And of course we can't forget about Bee. Here's what he
02:25 also looks like with Bumblebee. As for the Autobots accessories, I sort of got
02:30 them sprinkled across here. Well first look at the figures hands. The hands I'm
02:34 just choosing for right now at least be dynamic hands. These are good for of
02:37 course putting the figure in some action poses. And the hands look pretty
02:40 good. It looks almost like as if the fingers are a little on the more warped
02:44 side like this one and this one here. But you got a pair of relaxed hands. Those
02:47 are always good to go. The figure also comes included with a thumbs-up hand. And
02:52 the figure has, speaking of end of the road, what he happens to have said in of
02:56 course the Galvatron went inside the body of Unicron. Of course he just opens
03:01 up the Matrix of Leadership. This is the end of the road Galvatron. And of course
03:05 this is the big pointing hand for that. That's gonna be a good way of displaying
03:08 the figure. He also has some gripping hands for of course the included weapons
03:13 that he'll be wielding in a moment. He has of right now, as of right now, he's
03:16 got some closed fists. That's not gonna be doing much of anything. The figure
03:19 also has coming included with him some very unique hands which we'll talk more
03:23 about in a moment. For right now at least I'll kind of put them off to the side
03:26 just remind me that they're there. And he also has some other rather unique hands
03:29 too that we'll talk about more in a moment too. The other thing that the
03:32 figure comes in clue with is two blasters. Not though identical with one
03:36 another, the figure has first of all a blaster rifle. The blaster rifle is quite
03:40 very elaborately detailed. It's sculpted mostly here just in black plastic. Doesn't
03:44 seem to have any additional paint whatsoever. But the front half of it can
03:48 detach. You simply remove the barrel from the rest of it. I guess in that way you
03:52 have well it doesn't really look like a salvageable gun that you could then have
03:55 them wielding. It really does look like it's supposed to belong together. This
03:59 little part right here, see this little clip of plastic, actually does slide then
04:02 into the groove that's provided on the bottom carriage of the gun. And when you
04:05 meet those two, not necessarily in the middle, you got yourself a rather
04:08 interesting looking blaster rifle. The figure also though comes included with
04:13 as well as a laser blaster which again is a little bit more something what I
04:16 would more consider to be a gun that he would have like if he was Rodimus Prime
04:20 for example or even prior to that even Hot Rod. This one doesn't attach at all.
04:24 It's just again molded here in black plastic. What you can though do is you
04:27 can take the two and you can merge them together. One sacrifice unfortunately has
04:31 to be made is that you have to take the thing we've already had a look at. You
04:34 have to remove this piece first. This doesn't seem to have a purpose with the
04:39 instructions nor on the images on the back of the box. This doesn't look like
04:43 it serves any other purpose than just removing it and then just sort of
04:46 putting it to the side. What you're then going to do is you're going to take the
04:49 front laser blaster and then you're going to take what's left behind the
04:52 blaster rifle and again you'll take this little clip that's on the top and you
04:55 slide it in the same way. By the way there is a hole there on the back and
04:59 then there's of course a little peg, a little piece of plastic there on the
05:03 front and then there's plugs in place. Once those are then merged together, I
05:06 guess this is more something you would expect to see Rodimus Prime wielding. This
05:09 is a photon eliminator rifle. I imagine you'd be doing a lot of eliminating with
05:14 the size of this blaster. Really really cool though. I like the look of that.
05:18 Again, there isn't from what I can see any other place where I can store
05:22 this. I kind of looked around anywhere on the bot to see if there was a peg, a
05:25 place, anywhere that he could slide this in onto so I just didn't have to put it
05:29 back in the plastic. I suppose though I am gonna be putting back the additional
05:32 hands anyway so this will just have to be something that's gonna go back into
05:35 the tray also as well. The figure also like I said does come in clue with these
05:39 hands. I reminded myself I did want to come back to these. These hands are
05:43 actually ideally suited for then the Matrix of Leadership that doesn't come
05:46 included necessarily with Rodimus Prime but did in fact come in clue with the
05:50 earlier look that Optimus Prime. With these you can actually take the
05:54 hands and with the hands the way they've configured them, see how they're sort of
05:58 split in the middle? The top parts of the fingers actually then rest inside the
06:02 Matrix of Leadership and with that gap the gap actually fits right nicely
06:06 around the frame of the Matrix. Now for this I'm actually gonna let's just take
06:11 Rodimus Prime's body here. One thing I did want to mention actually just before
06:14 we get down to looking at all the things that are on the figure and swapping of
06:17 course out the hands is that this flap right here, the only reason why I'm
06:21 drawing your attention to it is it's it falls out frequently. Because I am gonna
06:25 be moving the thing around on the figure I'm gonna be taking out his hands I'm
06:28 gonna be moving around I just don't want this to fall off and land on the floor
06:31 and I'm not gonna be able to find it as easy so I'm just gonna take it off for
06:34 right now. What it should really do though is it fits into this hole the
06:37 other one fits fine and it fits in but I've noticed that you really have to
06:41 push it in far enough and it fits okay until the moment you start to move it.
06:46 Now again I can only speak for the one that I have in front of me I'm sure it's
06:49 not gonna be the case across the board that everyone's gonna have a Rodimus
06:51 Prime's gonna have the same problem with the flap. Still though mine unfortunately
06:55 just pops off a lot so I'm just I might just end up taking a little bit of nail
06:58 polish or just an extra dollop of glue and adding it to the end of it just to
07:02 probably thicken up the peg so it can fit properly in place. Right now at least
07:05 I'm gonna remove it just because again I'm gonna be moving things around on
07:08 Rodimus I just don't want to have that fall off and land on the floor and I
07:12 don't even realize it until later. Let's just change the hands for right now. I
07:15 will say of the all the improvements that they've made on Rodimus versus the
07:19 original Prime one of which being the pegs these pegs on Prime the original
07:23 Optimus Prime always were prone to moving around quite quite loosely it
07:28 made things really hard when it came to changing out the hands not the problem
07:31 at all when I have here with Rodimus Prime. His actually his pegs are nice and
07:35 tight so let's just plug those hands now in place and with the joints then
07:40 provided you can kind of bring his shoulders out and you can also then bend
07:45 the elbow. The only thing you will want to be careful of I'll talk more
07:48 about this when we talk about the post building on the figure is these little
07:50 plastic flaps these parts right here that stick further past the forearm you
07:55 will make sure that you want to make sure that these hinge first of all but
07:58 when you're turning the arm you don't want to accidentally clip these because
08:00 like this part rotates but any bit of bend afterwards you run the risk of
08:04 actually bending or even snapping that plastic so again we're just gonna bring
08:08 these arms up and sort of bend them in a place where it looks like it would fit
08:14 the best for Rodimus here of course and we're just gonna bring this arm up there
08:18 bring this a little bit more close together and of course then you can take
08:22 yourself the matrix of leadership and that will just plug into place that's
08:25 not the easiest thing to do of course when you've got a camera in front of you
08:28 and you got like like half a foot half a foot space in front of you and the
08:33 figure that you're trying to do this to but still though you can take Rodimus
08:36 Prime's fingers I'll probably do this a little bit better of a job later on when
08:40 we jump the final looks but yeah you can have the figure actually holding the
08:43 matrix of leadership might even be even in fact easier to put the figure down
08:47 here for a second let's just move them a little more in frame so you guys can see
08:50 a better job of it get the one hand snapped in there get the other hand
08:54 snapped in there you have to really kind of get it around his thumbs there we go
08:58 and just making sure everything is good to go yeah there you got Artemus Prime
09:03 wielding the matrix of leadership of course the investment on your part is
09:07 that you'd have to buy the prime prior to this because if not for that you
09:09 wouldn't have the matrix of leadership I kind of in a way wish that the matrix
09:12 would have already been included with Rodimus Prime but yeah in fact you can
09:15 recreate the scene where he becomes Rodimus Prime I still get chills still
09:19 get chills in that scene arise Rodimus Prime Optimus anyways speaking of
09:25 Optimus Prime actually let's just go ahead and remove the matrix for right
09:28 now the one other hands or I did say there was another special set of hands
09:33 just put the arms down here for Artemus Prime the figure also then comes
09:37 included with these hands here specifically why I left these
09:40 separately you get a hand more for Rodimus Prime clearly by the fact it's
09:44 molded here in black plastic and then you get a blue hand this is actually for
09:48 Optimus Prime so the idea is that you're gonna take make sure of course the rules
09:52 still apply the thumb rule still applies for when it comes to robots just gonna
09:56 take the hand off and make sure the thumbs ease go in gonna plug this hand
10:00 in place and again it doesn't really matter how you got imposed right now
10:03 we're gonna fix that all in a moment let's bring Optimus Prime Optimus Prime
10:07 you're gonna want to change out this hand and one of the problems I did say
10:11 about Optimus Prime was like his pegs are always prone to give me problems
10:15 like they move around way too frequently so sometimes it was really hard to kind
10:18 of get the hands in place for prime because even in that review these pegs
10:22 moved around way too much for me plugging that in as best as I can get it
10:27 get prime sort of in a accepting pose and then of course you can link the
10:32 hands together actually just to show you what it looks like these hands link
10:35 quite good together lining up the fingers to the palm and vice versa then
10:40 on the other side you can have then the two Autobot leaders I think it was a
10:43 comic panel memory serves me correctly where you actually had Optimus Prime
10:47 sort of passing the baton passing the Autobot torch so to speak to Rodimus
10:51 Prime and I think there was a panel in fact that they had the two shaking hands
10:54 so they've nicely replicated that here of course in the release from 3-0 I like
10:59 that let's move Optimus Prime out of the way here - I guess just before we look
11:03 and move Optimus Prime out of the way I'm just gonna bring down Rodimus
11:05 Prime's arms I want to show you guys the difference between the two I feel like
11:08 vast improvements have been made from what we got with the essentially the
11:11 first MDLX Autobot Optimus Prime to what we get here now with the
11:15 Rodimus Prime all the features seem a little smoother a little sharper and the
11:19 paint I think it's handled so much nicer here on on Rodimus Prime in fact
11:23 actually to look at the two it almost looks as if they're from a different
11:26 wave the one thing I did want to bring in is I want to bring in Bumblebee
11:30 because I feel like of the figures that we've looked at from the MDLX
11:33 Transformers Bumblebee actually from a color standpoint the way they sort of
11:37 have smoothed over giving a more pastel look to the finish actually pairs I
11:42 think a little nicer with Rodimus Prime then does say with Optimus Prime
11:45 Optimus Prime had a lot of good features going for him but he sort of had more of
11:49 a metallic look to him kind of more like a robot with in a way that I feel like
11:53 Rodimus Prime kind of comes across more like a like an anime look if that makes
11:57 any sense and he doesn't maybe have as much the panel lines as Bumblebee here
12:01 but I feel he fits a little bit better from us from the way they've colored the
12:05 character from the way they painted the figure it looks a little bit more like
12:07 Bumblebee at least that that's my opinion so let's just move Optimus Prime
12:11 out of the way of course getting a closer look now at Rodimus Prime for all
12:15 intents and purposes I mean really other than the fact that of course they had to
12:18 throw in the handshake if not for the handshake I think this guy would also
12:21 have been very passable hot rod I mean there really isn't a lot of change other
12:25 than just really height they age of course a little bit of his face when it
12:28 comes to like the movie in the in the TV series but for yeah it's obviously a hot
12:33 rod and then becomes eventually Rodimus Prime but I feel like to look at this it
12:36 looks very much more like a hot rod to me it's got like a more youthful looking
12:40 face maybe not as more of the aged wise face that Rodimus Prime would have one
12:45 other little bit of assembly that I had to do also with the figure as well is
12:47 that this really large spoiler came separate in the packaging this actually
12:52 we're just gonna attach it right now because I don't want to show you guys
12:54 where it actually goes here though on the back of his body there's a slot a
12:58 little ravine a little chasm on the back of the spoiler you'll see there's a
13:02 little lip of plastic it actually isn't so little at all and that just plugs on
13:06 to the back of the figures body actually quite well not not to the point where I
13:09 really want to hold it by its spoiler but just to go show you it fits quite
13:13 well on the back of the figures body and that's some nice additional panel lines
13:16 there also on the back I really like the brighter orange and the yellow that
13:20 they've also used there as well like the coloring that I would say for Rodimus
13:23 Prime is again showing some of if not some of the best three zero stuff that
13:27 we've gotten so far I think it's really all encapsulated into Rodimus Prime's
13:30 design I like the use of the oranges for example the red works really well I mean
13:35 all these colors are really very familiar with Rodimus Prime and hot rod
13:38 for that matter the flame effect is really nicely printed there on the front
13:42 of course being that this is an officially licensed transformer piece
13:44 you do have the Autobot logo printed down below here now Optimus Prime I'm
13:48 just gonna put down Rodimus here for a second Optimus Prime of course because
13:52 he did have the matrix of leadership this front section of Prime's body did
13:56 open up and it housed the Autobot leader Autobot matrix of leadership
14:01 actually inside his body Rodimus Prime doesn't seem to have that there's no
14:04 place that you can actually open it up that you'd really need to have a place
14:07 to really put the matrix of leadership it's fine for actually staying with
14:10 Prime but like the coloring on this guy so fantastically done here the panel
14:14 lining as you can see as doesn't make as much the appearance of say maybe
14:17 bumblebee before but you can see there's a lot of it really happening here in his
14:20 abdomen area he's got a few little flaps there that are gonna be there serving
14:24 more the purpose of allowing his legs to kind of move so there are a few little
14:27 functioning moving part parts the thing that kind of threw me off a little bit
14:30 was he has these little vents there on the back of his figures body which you
14:33 would just imagine to be there for more just design than anything else but these
14:37 actually have ball joints the only option the only reason I can think of
14:41 why they're there is maybe has something to do with the poseability in the figure
14:44 because with this being of the rock back and forth likely was the reason why they
14:49 made this hingeable and I guess because they wanted to have it so if you wanted
14:52 to have it closer to his body for example probably one of the reasons why
14:56 they didn't leave the gap there on the side but yeah all in all like it's just
14:59 a really good transformer like the only thing it does obviously it doesn't
15:02 transform which if that isn't a deal-breaker for you at all like really
15:05 venture in to start picking up these MDLX figures I'm a little bummed by the
15:09 fact the flap this little back piece doesn't properly peg in place I
15:13 could have easily just fixed this prior to hitting record but I did want to show
15:16 you guys one issue I did have with it it's a very easy fixable solution it's
15:20 just probably a case where I may have to add just a like a little bit of dollop
15:22 of glue or even like you know like a nail polish or something on the end of
15:25 it just to broaden up the point of the peg on the back of it so it actually fit
15:29 a little bit better this flap actually fits fine I'm not really sure why this
15:32 one fell off as much as it did but you got some really nice detailing on the
15:35 back you've got the little additional like like piping there on the back the
15:39 figures body nicely handled here in silver and again I really like the
15:42 coloring that they've chose for this guy he isn't overly scratched up or battle
15:46 damage which I think may have taken a little bit about away from the figure
15:49 and really I mean other than a few little places on him there isn't a lot
15:52 of spots where he has a lot of that panel lining so maybe if you didn't like
15:55 that as much for example with bumblebee he doesn't have it at all really other
15:59 than just like the abdomen and a few little areas there also in his forms
16:02 they kind of have pulled back a lot when it comes to this panel lining now for
16:06 the figures articulation there is quite a lot to cover obviously going back to
16:09 his head sculpt here it's gonna be on a ball joint so that alone allows the head
16:12 to rotate all the way around but in addition to that Rodimus Prime also has
16:16 a ball joint at the base of the neck right there I'm quickly showing you guys
16:20 what the head sculpt looks like once again but the head does have two places
16:23 in which they it can actually bend so there's one here at the ball joint one
16:27 at the base of the neck so there's a fair range of motion to move arms do
16:30 come out now they can rotate all the way around and the reason why they also I
16:34 also say they come out there's a ball joint you can see kind of inside the
16:37 cavity of the shoulder this allows this to also hinge up so if you want to have
16:41 a little bit closer to his body or you can also hinge it outward to have a
16:45 little bit more space now for Megatron I've brought mine out a little bit
16:48 further just because I wanted to make him a little bit more bigger in the
16:50 torso this also really does help to give a little bit of additional possibility
16:54 because again like with this being able to hinge out you can get almost a I
16:58 would say about a 45 degree angle bend you probably could get just a little bit
17:01 more out of that one thing I also really like is that the shoulders are of hinges
17:04 so these can actually hinge outward as well so you can almost get 90 degrees
17:09 almost arms go again move forward and back there is the hinge at the elbow the
17:13 hinge in the elbow by the way just be very careful this swivels back and forth
17:17 and I had it almost at one point where I swiveled it here and then I tried to bend
17:22 the elbow and I guess that's probably as far to this turn that I will be able to
17:26 get it if I say turn it this way and I'm trying to bend the elbow like that's
17:30 getting really close in quarters to this extra little piece that he has on his on
17:34 his forearm you can kind of see some additional detailing that they've put
17:37 underneath the plate so just be careful of this obviously you don't want this to
17:40 clip in the process hands rotate also all the way around the the figures torso
17:45 for example does swivel back and forth at the waist first of all but then it
17:49 also hinges back and forth this way too now one thing too is while you can't
17:52 really see what's under the hood so to speak if you bring like the torso back
17:56 far enough you can see some additional silver work that they've added in there
18:00 as well didn't really even need to put that in there in the first place now the
18:03 when it comes to the legs we're just gonna kind of bring the arms out just a
18:05 little bit these flaps do hinge out and that will certainly be something you
18:08 will want to keep in consideration because when it comes to bring out his
18:11 legs if these flaps are down you're gonna pop them off hopefully it's just a
18:15 case you can put them back in place but if they snap that'll be even a harder
18:19 thing to pull off legs go forward legs go back and just again while you move
18:24 them back you wanna make sure that these are also brought back also as well the
18:28 figure has a mild swivel at the top of the thigh figure has a double hinge on
18:31 the knee and I want to show you guys here for a second I want to bring the
18:34 knee all the way back that's as far back as the knee will afford it I mean that's
18:38 quite a lot a hinge joins right there and hinge joins right there so he has
18:42 quite a lot of bend going for his knee ankles move also back and forth this way
18:46 you can move it also back and forth this way and he does have sort of in the same
18:50 way that prime had where like this cut of his boot kind of overhangs the rest
18:55 of his feet but not I think to the extreme that Optimus Prime had it I feel
18:59 in a way like that's one thing I wish that if they could do say for example a
19:02 version 2 Optimus Prime maybe just tool a few extra things on the original
19:06 release so I'm just gonna bring him back in for example like Prime had this also
19:10 here on his feet as well and it does leave a slightly unsightly looking little
19:14 gap space there between his feet and of course the cap above that but yeah nice
19:19 looking figure I mean really to look at where they've they've raised the bar and
19:22 I really feel like they've raised the bar when it comes to MDLX releases we
19:25 started sort of with Prime then we got of course Bumblebee we got Megatron also
19:28 as well I just want to bring back in Bumblebee I feel like we're on him as
19:31 Prime is the best of the batch he's the best of what we've gotten so far from MDLX
19:35 and I hope again like this isn't the end of the road at all I think they have
19:39 since then release announcements that they are gonna be doing a Starscream but
19:43 you know for me while I am loving the original generation one looks I've
19:47 always been kind of more keen on like the designs post animated movie so I
19:50 would love to see I mean we've already got you know what let's bring back in
19:53 Megatron Megatron is certainly one thing more of a reminder to talk about
19:57 something else too post movie I would love to see sort of taking what will be
20:02 the advancement of one leader to another the passing of the torch so to speak I
20:06 would really love to see what they could do with like a Galvatron a Galvatron
20:09 yes because of course like well maybe Megatron and Optimus Prime are kind of
20:14 more basic in that generation one design I really think they've elevated design
20:18 here with Rodimus Prime and just to think what they could do further with
20:21 future characters like Cup for example or like just trying to think of other
20:25 like post movie maybe Ultra Magnus might be a little bit harder but Springer yeah
20:31 Springer Springer and Galvatron we certainly - I would love to see sort of
20:35 approached in the same way that three zero has has approached Rodimus Prime
20:38 not only is he like from a color standpoint I think he's the richest
20:43 looking character that we've gotten so far from the MDLX line but he's certainly
20:47 my favorite by far he's my favorite I think three zero has really done some
20:51 new improvements when it comes to Rodimus Prime compared to maybe say the
20:54 likes of the other ones that we've ever had a look at and definitely if you are
20:57 collecting the MDLX up to this point Rodimus Prime is a figure you don't want
21:00 to pass on I could have said mark it on your calendar but most of the pre-order
21:04 sites that have this guy listed show it only as third quarter 2023 so that may
21:08 involve you marking off entire pages about three pages worth on your calendar
21:12 that's just a bit of a waste just know though that Rodimus Prime the MDLX
21:16 release from three zero is slated to release and dropping anytime now most of
21:20 the sites do have the listings available at $79.99 which again for what you're
21:24 getting with a figure that's got a metal frame these guys plastic pieces over top
21:27 of it not to mention the passion and the paint that they put into them I definitely
21:31 think I think well worth the $79.99 asking price this is now counting of
21:36 course a couple of the variations that they did release I think they also did
21:39 do a Nemesis Prime I never got my chance to get my hands on that one but I think
21:43 this is about the fourth or fifth figure that three zero has done with I think
21:46 just recently announcing that they were gonna be doing a Starscream at some
21:49 point as well but I think really for me think beyond the point of what the 86
21:53 movie I would love to see them what they could do with like as already mentioned
21:56 a Springer a Galvatron or even a Cyclonus think of that the detail work
22:01 to put in this piece now granted again he doesn't transform but I don't I think
22:05 by now if you're gonna be collecting any of these MDLX figures you're going in it
22:09 with already the know that the figure isn't gonna transform but what you're
22:12 getting from it is more than making up for the fact he doesn't have moving
22:15 parts that doesn't turn him back into a space Winnebago I would much rather have
22:19 a detailed Rodimus Prime instead I have got him currently displayed with again
22:22 the Autobots matrix of leadership with full disclosure that the Autobot matrix
22:26 of leadership did not come included the figure but if you already have Optimus
22:30 Prime and he's already sitting dead anyways you might as well at least give
22:33 the Autobot matrix of leadership to Rodimus Prime instead so he can spend
22:37 most of the episode sort of just wallowing and wondering if he's ever
22:40 gonna live up to the standards that's all really Rodimus Prime ever really did
22:44 in the series big thank you once again though to the folks over at 3-0 that did
22:48 provide the sample of the upcoming transformers MDLX articulated figure
22:51 series Rodimus Prime lovely looking figure if you guys enjoyed this video
