00:00 Welcome to Sunday Morning Quarterback with Jay Stockwell and Bob Frady.
00:06 Well, I can tell we've improved something already, Mr. Frady.
00:11 What would that be, Jay Stockwell?
00:13 I got lots of feedback on your lavender shirt in the last pod with Ben Saragamo.
00:19 I mean, come on, dude.
00:20 Like lavender?
00:21 When you make it look as good as I do, you got to keep rolling with it.
00:29 You got that flavor, you got that swag.
00:32 It's like you got to drip.
00:34 You got to drip your swag, as the kids would say.
00:36 But I had the black shirt hat on, although it was tight.
00:39 You know, it's like that's the biggest hat they had.
00:45 What isn't tight on your head, Bob?
00:46 I mean, come on.
00:47 Oh, you know what?
00:49 I think maybe an airplane, you know, wouldn't be tight on my head.
00:52 But otherwise, it's like I was like, oh, my God.
00:57 It's like having a head like this.
00:59 It's like having a watermelon balanced on a straw.
01:01 It's just it's awful.
01:02 You got a big melon yourself, but it's like even your hats are too small for me.
01:07 It's in better proportion, though.
01:08 I've got the body to go with it, you know?
01:10 So yeah, your head is swollen and you know.
01:15 But hey, yeah, check it out.
01:16 Check it out.
01:17 The vids.
01:18 Hold on.
01:19 Still got the swag.
01:20 Still got the swag.
01:21 You know what I'm like?
01:22 I'm like Halloween corn.
01:25 It's like, it's like.
01:26 You know what it is?
01:27 It's like one Husker.
01:28 Is it?
01:29 No, it is.
01:30 It's a surprise.
01:31 It's Halloween.
01:32 Is it?
01:33 It is.
01:34 What is that?
01:35 Or so it's it's it's a hundred dollar bills shredded, chopped up and covered with corn.
01:43 Hey, well, the Vince podcast was such a treat.
01:47 And he's sending some more.
01:49 Didn't he send you some wine, Uncle Bob?
01:51 Where is it?
01:52 Where is it?
01:53 It's a it's a it's a.
01:54 Oh, nice.
01:55 Does it look?
01:56 No, it's a it is Vince Ferragamo Vineyards, Caressa J. It's a super Tuscan to blend.
02:03 It's 80% Sangiovese, which takes the heat well and Cabernet Sauvignon, which also takes
02:10 the and I didn't like that because, you know, I don't speak French, but I could pronounce
02:13 that French.
02:14 I'm like, you know, like your Italian friends.
02:15 They're like the medical.
02:16 It's like you're from you're from Boston.
02:18 You don't you know, like eat San Jose.
02:21 So I can.
02:22 Yeah, I can only I can only assume that since you're in California that your wine gets there
02:27 faster.
02:28 But I'm hoping.
02:29 Yeah, yeah.
02:31 I think they deliver by Pony Express out to Minnesota.
02:35 War for nice.
02:36 We're going to Minnesota.
02:37 It's got to take a few days there, Jay.
02:39 Hey, before we before we jump into the predictions for this week, I want to I want to talk a
02:43 couple of topics.
02:45 Number one, volleyball.
02:46 Oh, my God.
02:48 Did you my daughter and I watched the Stanford Nebraska game last night and Nebraska is unbelievable.
02:56 It's the first time they beat Stanford at Stanford in six years.
02:59 They're ranked fourth.
03:00 Stanford was ranked fifth.
03:02 And you want to talk about a team that is just impressive.
03:07 The defense that they displayed was a little bit like the football defense.
03:11 We have the one bright spot on the team right now.
03:14 But the defense is unbelievable and they defeated them in four sets.
03:18 And I now I get like, you know, volleyball is actually a harder ticket in Lincoln than
03:23 football.
03:24 You be.
03:25 Yeah, there are.
03:26 I mean, there's one hundred thousand seats you can cram.
03:29 You keep cramming people into Memorial Stadium.
03:31 It's like, get everybody hold your breath.
03:33 We need two thousand more people in here.
03:34 You can do that.
03:35 You can't do that.
03:36 If there's no fire codes for outdoor stuff, there's fire codes for indoor stuff.
03:41 So it's like, no, no, you got to stop right there.
03:43 It's a hard ticket to get.
03:45 But this brings us back to our very first podcast where you talked about leadership
03:48 at at Nebraska.
03:51 And I will agree and disagree, because if you look at the coach for Nebraska.
03:56 He's awesome.
03:57 Great recruiter.
03:58 Great, great instructor.
04:00 Great team builder.
04:02 And so the power of the coach talking volleyball, volleyball or volleyball, volleyball, volleyball,
04:07 the power of the coach.
04:10 Plus the power of the administration that makes it great.
04:13 So this is why I'm so optimistic about Nebraska football long term, because I think Matt rules
04:17 on a good path.
04:18 Listen, first couple of games, a good path.
04:21 Be patient, people.
04:22 Be patient.
04:23 You're in the watching corn grow.
04:25 Just be patient.
04:26 One hundred percent agree on that, by the way, just one little footnote on the on the
04:31 Colorado game.
04:32 The whole sort of fake controversy of Shadur Sanders being disrespected at midfield.
04:39 I think coach rule handled that beautifully.
04:41 It's like, no, no, guys, we were saying a prayer and we invited him to come in to say
04:46 the prayer.
04:47 I mean, they're trying to make it up, man.
04:49 So we're going to remember that Colorado have enough press right now.
04:53 Can you not keep being the I want to talk about Nebraska.
04:58 I want to talk about the future.
04:59 I don't want the past, the future.
05:01 All right.
05:03 So here we go.
05:04 So let's talk.
05:05 Let's talk predictions for this week.
05:06 Look, we turn the ball over eight times in eight quarters.
05:11 If you don't address that problem, it's going to be a very long season.
05:13 So I think everyone gets that.
05:16 And they got it.
05:18 They got to fix the turnover.
05:19 I thought Jeremy Purnell's really good article just today about the coaching staff and his
05:24 concerns about the coaching staff, especially on the offensive side of the ball, in particular,
05:29 line coach and the offensive coordinator, um, he's really calling them out.
05:34 And I think that's good.
05:35 So hopefully they'll respond.
05:36 I thought the offensive line was fine.
05:40 The offensive line was fine last week.
05:42 You put the best athletes in the world in the wrong scheme.
05:45 Yeah.
05:46 Purnell breaks it down with a little more precision than we do.
05:49 And you should read the article.
05:50 So, but the bottom line is we got to clean up the turnovers.
05:53 Okay.
05:54 Any precision is better than our precision because we are as imprecise as you could possibly
05:58 say.
05:59 We're fans.
06:00 We're fans.
06:01 We, we, we're from here, not from here.
06:04 We're from here.
06:05 The answer is over your heart.
06:07 It's in the middle of your forehead.
06:09 That's right.
06:10 That's right.
06:11 So my prediction for the game, we're favored, I think by seven.
06:14 What's the line Bob?
06:15 10 and a half.
06:16 10 and a half.
06:17 Okay.
06:18 So I think it's going to be low scoring because I still think we're going to have a little
06:20 bit of problem on offense, but I think we're going to win this game 21 to seven and hopefully
06:24 not turn the ball over as much and start to turn the page.
06:28 I think the quarterback's going to be hurt.
06:30 So I think we're going to get a look at probably at both Chubba and Heinrich.
06:33 So looking forward to seeing them come in and have their opportunity and play well for
06:37 a 21 to seven victory by the Huskers.
06:40 Yeah.
06:41 Quarterback is a, it's a problematic place right now and hopefully they figure it out.
06:46 You know, you do your best to try to help kids and sometimes it works and sometimes
06:50 it doesn't.
06:51 As Vin said last week, you know, Tom was room with the coach and you had that many turnovers,
06:54 you'd be riding the pie.
06:56 I would say that the more interesting bet this week is the over under, which is 42 and
07:02 a half late.
07:03 I would take the, I would take the under all day.
07:09 I want to take the under, but part of me wants to take the over because of the offensive
07:15 explosion from Nebraska.
07:17 So I would say a 28 to 14 would be the score.
07:22 I think Thomas Fedoni will have another touchdown.
07:25 Is it nice to see him emerge a little bit last week?
07:28 I think that Malachi Coleman will get all the, if it's, if Jeff Sims doesn't play that
07:33 all the people who play on the scout team or on the second team will shine this game
07:38 because that's who the quarterback will lean on.
07:40 And when you're in doubt as a quarterback, who do you throw to, but the tight ends.
07:44 So I think the tight ends will have a big day.
07:46 I think the running game will have a big day.
07:48 Northern Illinois did beat Boston college, but Boston college barely beat Holy cross,
07:52 which is a one double a school.
07:54 So it'll be interesting to see what happens.
07:58 I think 2014 Nebraska, it's going to be a beautiful day, 80 degrees and Sunday, although
08:02 it's a nighttime kickoff.
08:04 So don't get too tanked up.
08:06 Nebraska fans be positive with your heart.
08:11 No yelling, no screaming.
08:12 You're nice people.
08:13 You're not like those Minnesota jerks.
08:15 Don't be like that.
08:16 Be like good Nebraska fans.
08:18 So I'm going to go one step further on the call at 21 seven Nebraska.
08:22 When take the under in a parlay, that's what you should do.
08:27 What do you know about the game?
08:29 What's the last time you've gambled?
08:31 What's the last time?
08:32 I, when I get the one besides with your career, I went to CES and CES always bet some basketball
08:41 games during CES in particular college do usually do a parlay.
08:45 I picked the winner and then the over in the, or the under in a parlay.
08:48 And I like, I like the sports book.
08:51 I really try not to bet because there's a reason why Las Vegas has such bright lights.
08:55 It's because I'm morons like us walking in.
08:57 They're like, I'm going to bet this way.
08:59 And then we lose.
09:00 So it, although I did, I did have a score last year.
09:05 I was, I was, I was in Vegas with my nephew and he's like, Malcolm Broadville is going
09:10 to be six beta of the year.
09:11 I love that bet.
09:12 And it was like 3,500 plus 3,500.
09:16 I'm like, Hmm.
09:17 And so I didn't do it.
09:18 And then a month later I was back in Vegas for something else.
09:21 It was 2,800 and I'm like, I'll take it.
09:23 I put a hundred bucks on it.
09:24 I went 2,800 bucks.
09:25 I was like, I don't want anything.
09:28 I want a poker tournament in Vegas was, and that, and that's what the two times I've been
09:32 to Vegas like 50 times, two times positive, 48 times negative.
09:36 All right.
09:37 We just crossed 10 minutes.
09:39 So these are the prediction shows are supposed to be short here.
09:41 One last thing, recommendations for while you're in Lincoln.
09:45 I want to, I want to give out a shout out to my favorite restaurant in Lincoln right
09:49 now is blue sushi and a famous Nebraska player has a investment in the restaurant group that
09:56 owns that.
09:57 Uh, so this is a shout out to our acquaintance, the NADAM con Sue.
10:01 That is a great restaurant.
10:04 So right by the Marriott.
10:05 Did they do a Macassi there?
10:11 I had a little thing.
10:12 I like it.
10:13 They do the hot rock, you know, when you're with cook cake, the Wagyu steak on the hot
10:16 rock.
10:17 It's unbelievable.
10:18 So that's my, that's my big record for Lincoln.
10:21 I don't get the Wagyu steak.
10:23 It's like, why do you want a steak?
10:24 That's got butter all around it.
10:26 It's like, no, no, no, no.
10:29 Give me the strip steak.
10:30 Give me, give me a good Nebraska beef.
10:31 No, no way you Wagyu, whatever it's called.
10:36 Who needs that stuff?
10:38 Good Midwestern beef, grass fed, corn fed, whatever it's fed, walking around in circles,
10:43 you know, getting some good health on.
10:44 Then you should go to Misty's for the primary.
10:47 That's that's where you get a good Nebraska steak.
10:49 So all right.
10:50 So that's our prediction show for Northern Illinois.
10:53 21 17.
10:54 Take the under go big red.
