Assistant Features Editor Laura Reid looks at some of the long-reads from the features team this week.
Transcript
00:00 Hi, I'm Laura Reid, the Assistant Features Editor at the Yorkshire Post. I just thought
00:04 I'd come on to talk you through some of the features that we've run online and in print
00:09 over the past week, just in case you've missed them. We've of course got more to come over
00:15 the weekend in the Yorkshire Post magazine as part of our weekend edition on Saturday.
00:22 And so yeah, there's plenty of long reads for you to be going at over the weekend. So
00:27 at the start of the week, we looked at a new podcast by Leeds Teaching Hospitals, which
00:32 is shining a light on some of the health workers in the city and their lives. We spoke to a
00:40 woman who suffered a freak accident horse riding about her charity fundraising for the
00:46 Yorkshire Rare Ambulance. And we heard from Arts Company Empath Action about a new project
00:52 they're running to encourage people to explore the local natural environment. We were in
00:58 an interview with astronaut Tim Peake about his time aboard the International Space Station
01:02 and what we can learn about Earth by studying other planets. And that's ahead of his new
01:07 Channel 5 three-part series next week. We also spoke to Bradford author Jess Kitchen
01:14 about why she has put victims and not the serial killer at the heart of her latest thriller
01:19 novel and how her sexual assault and her teens has influenced the book as well. We previewed
01:26 the upcoming ITV drama The Long Shadow, which is aiming to tell the story of Peter Sutcliffe's
01:31 crimes but in a different way. The broadcaster has said that it's going to focus on Sutcliffe's
01:37 victims, but also their loved ones who were left to live, obviously, with the enduring
01:43 effects of the horrendous attacks. And then finally in Arts and Culture, we looked at
01:48 an exhibition showcasing the work of young artistic talent in Leeds. And we also explored
01:54 how Opera North is looking to the future with its Little Listeners programme and a focus
01:59 on sustainability. Each week we've also got our Yorkshire Lifestyle newsletter. So if
02:06 you want to hear more about what the Features team has produced that week, please do consider
02:12 signing up to that. And there'll be content from our magazine on property, on fashion,
02:19 food and drink, arts and culture, health, environment and lots more human interest stories
02:25 too. Thanks.
