00:00 Welcome to the Carriker Chronicles, the people show where we check the pulse of Husker Nation.
00:15 I mean, what do you want me to say?
00:19 I legit had hopes and thoughts and believed that we could keep this game close going into
00:25 the fourth quarter.
00:27 I guess shame on me.
00:30 But we moved the ball at times.
00:32 We're certainly not explosive consistently.
00:35 We can be somewhat methodical on offense if we don't turn the ball over 84 times.
00:42 Okay, we left in the first half alone anywhere from 3 to 14 points on the field due to fumbles,
00:51 mishandled snaps, snaps hitting guys in motion.
00:53 I mean, when we were putting guys in motion, it was kind of given Colorado's defense a
00:58 little bit of a tough time in their man-to-man defense.
01:01 We were able to do a few things out of that.
01:04 But it's one of those things where you can't turn the ball over three or four times in
01:10 the first half.
01:12 Not only are we not that good, nobody is that good to be successful.
01:18 Colorado wasn't exactly blowing the doors off the scoreboard in the first half.
01:22 In fact, I know how it ended up.
01:26 I know the final score.
01:28 I know they moved the ball and scored towards the end of the game.
01:31 The Blackshirts were put in bad position after bad position, eventually probably got wore
01:35 down.
01:36 But they played good defense for quite a while and gave us a chance to be in the game.
01:41 If you agree with me, hit the like button.
01:43 Or if you're as frustrated as I am, either one, hit the like button.
01:50 You look at this team, and this is a team that left points on the field.
01:55 Colorado's first 13 points, 13-0 halftime, were basically all due to Nebraska turnovers
02:03 and/or penalties which gave them free downs even on their field goal right before half.
02:08 They had short field after short field.
02:11 Unfortunately, Colorado misses the field goal right before half.
02:14 Rule calls timeout right before that.
02:16 There's no way he's going to know they're going to miss the field goal.
02:18 They get to kick it again.
02:19 They make it.
02:20 You know, the second half was what it was.
02:23 It just was what it was.
02:25 We did not come out the stronger team in the second half.
02:27 The Sims have what, the 57-yard touchdown run right off the bat, and that was about
02:31 it.
02:32 Colorado took over.
02:34 I felt like the Blackshirts kind of got wore down after they played with a ton of heart
02:38 and fire for a good portion of the game.
02:40 The turnovers, what did we end up with?
02:42 4, 5, 89, eventually caught up to us.
02:46 Jeff Sims did not play well.
02:48 He flat out did not play well.
02:50 If I'm being honest with you, he reminded me of some of the kids that I coached in middle
02:56 school.
02:57 Just simple little things.
02:58 A handoff, you know, can you count on a handoff happening?
03:02 A guy going in motion, okay?
03:05 You're going to snap the ball to where it doesn't hit the guy in motion.
03:07 Just simple little things.
03:09 We got to have an open quarterback battle this week.
03:12 Purdy, Chebo Purdy, Heinrich Harburg, Jeff Sims.
03:17 I don't care.
03:19 We've got to have somebody who can execute the offense without a bunch of turnovers.
03:24 Alright, you know, I've got, as always, a bunch of notes here.
03:29 I don't see a point.
03:31 We had a chance to be in this game.
03:34 The bottom line is we literally gave the game away, and then Colorado took over the second
03:39 half.
03:41 That is the bottom line of what happened.
03:42 Now, as always, I will break this game down.
03:45 I will watch the film.
03:47 I'm going to do a full game breakdown.
03:49 I'll put that out Monday morning.
03:52 You can check that out on CarrikerChronicles.com.
03:56 I'm going to take a day or two to kind of process this.
04:02 I don't see a point in being up in arms.
04:04 This game was over long before I recorded this gut reaction.
04:07 I'm like a parent who's disappointed more than mad.
04:14 Questions?
04:18 I want to hear what you have to say.
04:20 And you know, one of my former teammates, Mike Stuntz, put out a tweet during the game
04:23 that, of course, after I shared it, you know, Jeff Sims gets banged up.
04:27 A couple of our backup quarterbacks, you know, Purdy and Harburg, at least got in the game
04:30 for a little bit.
04:32 But he's like, we're not able to throw the ball consistently.
04:35 So just run the quarterback right.
04:37 Run him left.
04:38 Counter right.
04:39 Counter left.
04:40 There's no such thing as running the quarterback too much.
04:41 And of course, Sims gets banged up.
04:42 But it's one of those things where we've got to find a way, because we've been able to
04:46 kind of, we're not explosive, but just move the ball, but finish, not give points away,
04:53 give drives away, hand points to the other team.
04:55 Not only are we not good enough to do that, nobody's good enough to do that and win football
04:59 games.
05:01 We've got to get better play out of our quarterback.
05:03 We've got to take care of the ball better.
05:06 Yeah, that's all I've got for now.
05:11 I'm going to process this.
05:12 I'm going to break it down more in depth on Monday morning.
05:15 Okay, check that out at CarrikerChronicles.com.
05:19 Let me know below.
05:20 I got questions for you fine folks.
05:22 One, are you as stunned at how bad our offense is as I am?
05:27 Number two, both backup quarterbacks got in during the fourth quarter, as I mentioned.
05:32 Do you want to see what one of them can do in our game next week?
05:37 I just want the best quarterback this week in practice to start next week, whoever that
05:40 is.
05:43 Number three, Rule had two wins his first year at Temple.
05:48 Eventually they ended up winning a conference championship in the AAC.
05:51 He had one win his first year in Baylor and at one point in time he turned that into a
05:56 top ten program.
05:58 My question is, does that make you feel any better about the future of Nebraska football
06:03 at all right now?
06:04 Because we are two games in.
06:06 Rule has said he is process oriented.
06:09 This is probably the wrong time to put this out.
06:11 This is something to say come Wednesday.
06:13 Because as we know, people are mad, people are hot, then they cool down a little by Monday,
06:17 by Tuesday, by Wednesday.
06:19 I myself become more reasonable.
06:21 I guess I'm trying to be more reasonable now.
06:25 I am.
06:26 There's no point in being mad at this point.
06:28 I'm fuming inside but I'm more like that disappointed parent, how I feel about this
06:33 program and how much I love it.
06:35 But we're two games in.
06:36 Rule has talked about he's process oriented.
06:39 It's a slow burn.
06:42 To getting this program better.
06:44 Until next time, Go Big Red and always remember to THROW THE BONES!
