00:00:00 (upbeat rock music)
00:00:03 Let's roll.
00:00:19 This is "Sports Rage."
00:00:20 I am Gabriel Marenzi.
00:00:21 The pimps, the players, the hustlers,
00:00:22 the people that bust up and everybody else in between.
00:00:24 Let's do this thing.
00:00:26 We've got a lot of stuff to unpack
00:00:28 and we've got a lot of live action going on right now
00:00:30 as we speak, including in Lawrence, Kansas.
00:00:33 It's Rock Chalk Jayhawk drilling Illinois right now.
00:00:37 If you tuned into the program last night,
00:00:39 we gave you Kansas on the way out.
00:00:41 It's 34-13, late in the third quarter of play.
00:00:45 The only question is basically right now
00:00:47 is whether the total is going to hit.
00:00:49 Countdown to kickoff is on.
00:00:51 The Colorado Buffaloes host the Nebraska Cornhuskers
00:00:55 and the hype is real.
00:00:56 Deion Sanders is basically the Messi of college football.
00:01:01 And last week's game against TCU
00:01:03 was the most viewed game of the day.
00:01:06 Was it the best game of the day?
00:01:08 You know, it was heavily hyped and the hype worked.
00:01:11 They had over 7 million viewers.
00:01:13 It was the most viewed opening game
00:01:18 on Fox College Football's television history.
00:01:23 And Deion Sanders is moving the needle once again,
00:01:26 the Colorado Buffaloes.
00:01:28 There's more money on the Colorado Buffaloes
00:01:30 than there is on any game
00:01:32 in a National Football League on Sunday.
00:01:35 And there is more than double the amount of money
00:01:39 on Colorado than there is
00:01:40 on any other college football game,
00:01:43 including like Alabama and Texas.
00:01:45 That's a pretty, pretty big game, right?
00:01:47 We're breaking it all down.
00:01:48 There's a lot of big games on Saturday.
00:01:51 Week two, it starts to get real.
00:01:53 Brent Beard steps up and in and joins us.
00:01:56 He's a Heisman Trophy voter.
00:01:57 He's a regular on the Rage.
00:01:59 Brent Beard makes his television debut on Sports Rage,
00:02:03 but it's not his television debut.
00:02:05 He's a First Coast News College football analyst,
00:02:08 ABC7 in Jacksonville, Florida.
00:02:11 He's a Heisman Trophy voter.
00:02:12 He's our SEC insider.
00:02:14 And there's a bunch of games involving SEC teams
00:02:17 that are big time, Alabama and Texas.
00:02:20 Miami Hurricanes host the Texas A&M.
00:02:22 Aggies, let's not forget in the late night hours,
00:02:25 Auburn and Cal could be a sneaky, fun, good football game.
00:02:29 And the game that we're gonna talk about tonight,
00:02:32 Ole Miss and Tulane.
00:02:33 Tulane continue to get no respect.
00:02:36 So Brent Beard's gonna hop up and in.
00:02:37 We'll focus in on the SEC games.
00:02:40 We're Brent Beard.
00:02:41 We've got Rob Vino.
00:02:42 Rob Vino, Sports Wager Talk in the house.
00:02:44 Rob Vino kicks in with us.
00:02:45 We're gonna run the gauntlet with Rob.
00:02:47 We'll talk college football, CFL football, NFL football,
00:02:51 and everything else in between.
00:02:53 Rob, listen, man, if it's pigskin,
00:02:58 if there's a pig and skin and there's a foot and a ball,
00:03:02 hell, Rob Vino will bet on soccer.
00:03:04 All right, so yeah, Rob Vino in the house.
00:03:06 Tony Finn.
00:03:07 We like to call the Friday Night Show
00:03:09 the Friday Night Freak Show.
00:03:10 So we saved Tony from Area 51 in the desert in Nevada
00:03:14 for the last hour of the program
00:03:16 when Cali steps up and in and joins us.
00:03:19 And speaking of freaks,
00:03:20 we have Mick Aussie in the house tonight.
00:03:22 Mick Aussie's patented NFL plays of the week.
00:03:25 We'll get into the AFL playoffs.
00:03:28 We've got live action going on.
00:03:30 We've got CFL live action going on.
00:03:32 We've got Major League Baseball action going on right now.
00:03:35 But setting the stage,
00:03:38 it's amazing to me that despite all the hype about Colorado
00:03:41 and all the money this and all the money that,
00:03:44 how come the number isn't a lot more than it is?
00:03:46 Are we being played?
00:03:50 Are we, you know what, everybody's on Colorado.
00:03:52 You better bet on Colorado.
00:03:53 And they're just like hoping.
00:03:55 They're playing everybody right now.
00:03:58 I mean, considering all the money,
00:04:00 considering all the hype and all the action on the bus,
00:04:03 how come this number isn't six right now?
00:04:05 Colorado were like two and a half points
00:04:07 in this football game.
00:04:09 And we can get into the past and well, you know what?
00:04:12 Nebraska were laying six and a half points last week
00:04:14 before Colorado, BTCU.
00:04:17 Yeah, and the price of Bitcoin was a lot different before.
00:04:20 And so what?
00:04:21 We can't live in the past.
00:04:23 Can't say, well, you can't bet it now
00:04:24 because they were getting six and a half before.
00:04:26 Well, if you didn't invest in Apple
00:04:29 in the first week of existence,
00:04:31 does it mean you should never invest in them again?
00:04:33 Right?
00:04:34 I get it.
00:04:35 We missed out on the best number, but you know, sometimes,
00:04:38 you know, we talk about it often.
00:04:40 And Steve Merrill, a regular on the program,
00:04:42 who's off out of the rotation tonight,
00:04:45 but he'll be joining us next week once again.
00:04:47 He's on the road.
00:04:48 You know, what are we always talking about?
00:04:50 You don't want to try to catch a falling knife,
00:04:53 get in front of a speeding bullet.
00:04:55 And what are the Colorado Buffaloes right now?
00:04:57 Plus we're talking about Nebraska here on the other side.
00:05:00 An offensively challenged
00:05:01 Nebraska Cornhusker football team.
00:05:04 I'm shocked that Colorado
00:05:06 were only two and a half point favorites right now.
00:05:08 Moneyline minus 145.
00:05:12 Of course, that's not the only big game of the day.
00:05:15 We're going to be breaking it all down.
00:05:17 We've got a great cast of guests tonight.
00:05:20 College football, handicappers, insiders,
00:05:23 Heisman Trophy voters, and everything else in between.
00:05:25 As far as the National Football League is concerned.
00:05:27 Nick Bosa says he's confident he'll be good to go.
00:05:31 Kyle Shanahan says he's confident
00:05:33 that Bosa will be good to go on Sunday
00:05:35 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
00:05:37 The Packers will be without wide receiver Christian Watson,
00:05:40 though on Sunday in the Windy City
00:05:41 against the Chicago Bears.
00:05:44 As Jordan loves, life just got a little bit more difficult.
00:05:47 Darren Waller listed as questionable
00:05:50 for his New York Giant debut.
00:05:53 And we all know how good Waller is when he's on the field.
00:05:56 Obviously he's had a hard time staying on the field.
00:06:00 We're going to talk Dallas Cowboys,
00:06:01 New York Giant game this evening.
00:06:04 US Open tennis.
00:06:06 Now listen, nobody glued their sorry asses
00:06:08 to any seats or anything like that.
00:06:11 But Novak Djokovic did basically drop the mic
00:06:16 walking off the quarter after he swept Ben Shelton.
00:06:20 And of course, Ben Shelton has a little celebration
00:06:23 where he answers the phone and then, you know,
00:06:26 against Tiafoe, he celebrated by answering the phone
00:06:30 and then hanging up after Novak did it to him.
00:06:35 And Novak evidently wasn't very impressed
00:06:38 with Ben Shelton's antics.
00:06:40 Ben Shelton seemed rattled after Novak did that to him.
00:06:44 I got to tell you,
00:06:45 and anybody who tunes into the program knows,
00:06:47 I think Novak's kind of a jerk.
00:06:49 I'm not really a massive fan of him personally.
00:06:51 I don't know him personally,
00:06:52 but him professionally and how he handles things.
00:06:56 But I will admittedly tell you,
00:06:57 he's the greatest tennis player ever to play the game.
00:07:00 There's no disputing that.
00:07:01 I will also tell you, I love what he did to Shelton.
00:07:04 That was like a go home kid, all right?
00:07:06 It's playtime's over.
00:07:08 The way that he did it was just like,
00:07:12 so like, all right, you're done.
00:07:14 It was an ice cold handshake.
00:07:17 Shelton seemed like he wanted to cry.
00:07:18 People that bet big on Carlos Alcaraz right now
00:07:23 feel like they want to cry.
00:07:24 Alcaraz is battling.
00:07:26 Medvedev not playing around tonight at Flushing Meadows.
00:07:30 We've got live tennis.
00:07:31 And Alcaraz, Alcaraz was down.
00:07:36 All right, he was down.
00:07:38 He lost the first set, 7-6.
00:07:41 He then got blasted in the second set.
00:07:44 And then, oh, oh, oh, here he comes, 6-3 in the third.
00:07:48 And now we're tied at two right now.
00:07:50 So Alcaraz is up against it.
00:07:53 We'll find out.
00:07:54 Listen, this kid is the future of tennis,
00:07:56 but the future is now.
00:07:58 And right now Medvedev is beating him.
00:08:00 And right now Novak Djokovic is waiting
00:08:03 in the wings to face the winner.
00:08:05 We'll get into Sabalenka and Coco Gauff tonight as well.
00:08:09 We'll hit the Major League Baseball card.
00:08:11 We'll get you caught up to date
00:08:12 with what's going on on the Diamond and all the news.
00:08:15 Walker Bueller was supposed to be coming back
00:08:17 and pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
00:08:19 He will not.
00:08:20 They've decided to shut him down for the year.
00:08:23 Mookie Betts is banged up right now in the nation's capital.
00:08:28 And speaking of nation's capital,
00:08:30 the Ottawa Red Blacks and the Tycoffs
00:08:32 have a crazy game going on.
00:08:34 So we got a full house on the program tonight.
00:08:36 The Raging Redhead, Kant Stewart's gonna step up
00:08:38 and hit the late night anger management class.
00:08:41 Bring it.
00:08:42 (upbeat music)
00:08:44 (upbeat music)
00:08:47 - I wanna watch Braylon Allen not run
00:09:04 into 14 defenders on a play.
00:09:07 And he's gonna run wild this year.
00:09:09 And I believe that Wisconsin is much better.
00:09:11 - And you look at the schedule, Ben.
00:09:13 I mean, they play Michigan, they play Penn State,
00:09:15 they play Notre Dame.
00:09:16 All three of those teams compound the rock
00:09:19 and they can't stop the run,
00:09:21 even with Jim Knowles in year number two.
00:09:23 - College football today, only on Sports Grid.
00:09:27 (upbeat music)
00:09:31 - I knew I was gonna do this.
00:09:33 So I stacked my card tonight to be all in action
00:09:37 during the show tonight.
00:09:39 So I have three bets and three sports all going tonight.
00:09:42 - You are gonna fit in just fantastic here.
00:09:45 That has gotta be honestly,
00:09:48 the most degenerate three bets I have heard
00:09:50 in a very long time, Matt.
00:09:52 So you're absolutely perfect.
00:09:54 - In game live, prime time, only on Sports Grid.
00:09:59 (whistle blows)
00:10:01 - Football in back.
00:10:03 - Sports Grid, road to kickoff.
00:10:06 - To get him at 12 to one double digits preseason,
00:10:09 I think it's pretty good value.
00:10:10 - If you're in Philly,
00:10:11 I think I'd agree with you.
00:10:12 Arizona is just trash.
00:10:14 - He's the best running quarterback I've seen.
00:10:16 - See, I love those low totals.
00:10:17 He went to pops on the first play.
00:10:19 - Exactly as I expected it to though.
00:10:21 Low scoring on the game,
00:10:23 bet the under, love the under.
00:10:24 - That was the cover.
00:10:26 - It's smarter to be on Sports Grid.
00:10:31 The Bostonian versus the book.
00:10:33 - They're painting like they're mailboxes,
00:10:34 like next Super Bowl.
00:10:36 - Oh no. - 2024.
00:10:37 - They always go at it.
00:10:38 - Instead of the tattoos though,
00:10:40 that guy that got the Lions tattoo championship.
00:10:42 - Oh yeah. - It's so bad.
00:10:43 - That would be so bad. - Come on.
00:10:44 - Yeah, I know.
00:10:45 - What are we doing?
00:10:46 - My favorite one was there's like a little sign
00:10:48 under it though.
00:10:49 I didn't realize it until I went to go,
00:10:50 I drove to go take a picture of this
00:10:52 and under it says, "Please win,"
00:10:54 and looks like. - Oh no.
00:10:55 (laughing)
00:10:57 - I'm like, oh no.
00:10:58 - The Bostonian versus the book.
00:11:01 It's smarter to be on Sports Grid.
00:11:04 - We got some big breaking news
00:11:06 in terms of sports betting, by the way,
00:11:07 here on the show.
00:11:08 We're gonna dive in.
00:11:09 - The most typical South Florida sports fan
00:11:12 I have ever seen.
00:11:13 - A game one victory for Denver at home,
00:11:16 easily covered as a four point bid.
00:11:19 - I'm telling you right now, Yankee fans,
00:11:21 I had enough of all of you.
00:11:22 I'm telling you, the team right now stinks.
00:11:24 - You're gonna be an idiot if you don't go to the window
00:11:28 for a team with no post presence.
00:11:29 - Get what I need for my franchise.
00:11:32 There are no feelings in pro football.
00:11:34 - I'm upset because I have Billy plus one and a half.
00:11:37 That's why I'm upset.
00:11:38 I'm getting screwed.
00:11:40 - We've been saying it all off season.
00:11:42 The tape doesn't lie, baby.
00:11:45 - I've got them plus the five and a half.
00:11:46 I do think they can keep this one tight.
00:11:48 I think this one comes down to the very end.
00:11:50 - Get all the real time data, latest line shifts,
00:11:53 player props, and more.
00:11:56 It's smarter to be on Sports Grid.
00:11:58 (snoring)
00:11:59 - Hey, I appreciate this.
00:12:00 You want some of these?
00:12:01 - I'm good, KG.
00:12:02 - You want some ginger syrup?
00:12:04 - I'm good, man, I'm good.
00:12:07 - I need some positivity today.
00:12:09 I'm trying to cover this spread and your vibe is off, G.
00:12:12 - What's wrong with my vibe?
00:12:13 - You gotta get you one of these, G.
00:12:15 Get yourself some of this positivity in your life
00:12:16 and boom, you see that?
00:12:19 Spread's covered.
00:12:20 Thank you, mama.
00:12:21 In a minute, G.
00:12:22 Ha ha!
00:12:23 (upbeat music)
00:12:26 (upbeat music)
00:12:28 (upbeat music)
00:12:31 - This is Sports Rage.
00:12:47 I am Gable Marencia, the personal players,
00:12:48 the hustlers, the people of bustling,
00:12:50 but everybody else in between.
00:12:51 Countdown to kickoff is on.
00:12:52 Let's do this thing.
00:12:53 We've got football going on.
00:12:55 We've got a close game in the CFL.
00:12:57 24-20 Ottawa right now.
00:13:00 Every Ottawa red-black game is close.
00:13:02 We'll keep our eye on this.
00:13:03 I posted on Twitter X before kickoff
00:13:07 that I took over 46 and a half in this game.
00:13:09 So we need another field goal to hit that play.
00:13:13 We're all over the Kansas Jayhawks.
00:13:16 Jayhawks rolling, Rock Chalk Jayhawk tonight
00:13:19 as we thought that they would.
00:13:20 Illinois are just overwhelmed.
00:13:22 It's 34-15 right now.
00:13:25 Early in the fourth quarter, 14-52 to be exact.
00:13:28 So looks like we could get there for the over betters
00:13:32 as we pull the trigger on the over
00:13:34 of this football game as well.
00:13:36 And of course, we've got tennis going on at Flushing Meadows.
00:13:39 Last night was absolutely epic
00:13:40 with Sabalenka and Madison Keyes.
00:13:44 And you know, everybody, a lot of celebrities are there.
00:13:47 A lot of celebrities are in the house tonight,
00:13:49 like Tom Brady, Shariza, Theron.
00:13:52 I saw Kevin Durant was like slamming those
00:13:54 honeydew vodkas that they sell there.
00:13:58 He looked like he was enjoying himself.
00:13:59 And Cam Stewart, Cam Stewart's like a celebrity.
00:14:03 He would have been there, but he said,
00:14:04 "I gotta leave, guys."
00:14:05 Cam was in a tent with Snoop Dogg and Tom Brady
00:14:08 at Flushing Meadows,
00:14:08 but he left to come out, hang out with us.
00:14:10 What's up, Cam?
00:14:11 - What's up, Rezzie?
00:14:12 You're watching the end of this Blue Jay game here.
00:14:14 Everything is interesting with these guys,
00:14:15 5-3, Kansas City's got two guys on.
00:14:19 Texas, they're actually down to Oakland tonight.
00:14:21 You said it, we're on the Kansas Jayhawks,
00:14:23 Rock Chalk Jayhawk tonight.
00:14:24 And Gabe, as I told people today,
00:14:27 White Claw's a mix.
00:14:28 They looked at me like I was crazy,
00:14:30 like I'm some kind of alcoholic.
00:14:31 But anyway, let's roll.
00:14:32 - You are.
00:14:33 - We took Alcarez plus a point.
00:14:35 Thank you, I appreciate that.
00:14:36 But anyway, we took Alcarez live down in that match,
00:14:39 and he is fighting back hard.
00:14:41 Let's do it.
00:14:43 - Just for the record, I gave Cam a White Claw once.
00:14:48 It was at the Super Bowl in Los Angeles.
00:14:50 I came up and I had a six pack of White Claws.
00:14:52 Might've been 12.
00:14:54 I had it in the White Claw.
00:14:55 He goes, "You know what was really good with this?
00:14:56 "Vodka."
00:14:58 And he takes a sip and he pours more vodka.
00:15:00 And I told him, "No, there's already vodka
00:15:02 "in the White Claw."
00:15:03 He's like, "Not enough."
00:15:04 - Not enough.
00:15:05 - Not enough.
00:15:06 - It's like a Spritzer.
00:15:07 - Why don't they just do then,
00:15:08 for people like you, they should do it,
00:15:11 White Claw double.
00:15:12 Like White Claw, you know what I mean?
00:15:14 - Let's call it like White Claw exposure.
00:15:17 12%, like a bottle of--
00:15:18 - Yeah, like a White Claw.
00:15:19 - It just came a good name right there.
00:15:21 White Claw explosion.
00:15:22 - Oh, Brent, you have full of it, man.
00:15:24 - It's like that Four Loko stuff
00:15:26 that we drank in New York.
00:15:28 That'll make you explode, but that's another story.
00:15:29 - That's dangerous.
00:15:30 You're living on the street.
00:15:32 - This tennis stuff is off the hook right now.
00:15:34 College football, big coming out party, man,
00:15:36 in Kansas tonight.
00:15:38 The crowd, it's like it's a blackout.
00:15:39 The crowd is going crazy.
00:15:41 They're up 34-15.
00:15:43 And I believe we've got Mr. Brent Beard
00:15:45 ready to step up and in first.
00:15:46 - Nice.
00:15:47 - College football analyst, Jacksonville, Florida.
00:15:49 He's a Heisman Trophy voter.
00:15:50 Brent, thank you for joining us live tonight.
00:15:52 How you doing, Brent?
00:15:54 - Bro, just saying, it's gonna be a lot of fun.
00:16:04 - Yeah, countdown to kickoff is on.
00:16:09 We've got a bunch of SEC games
00:16:11 that we wanna throw at you here.
00:16:14 And actually, you know what?
00:16:16 Let's just start off right off at the top
00:16:18 because I know you were on Alabama radio earlier today,
00:16:22 Brent, what's the status with Alabama's defensive backs?
00:16:25 I know that was a concern coming into this football game
00:16:29 as far as the health of their secondaries concerned.
00:16:32 What's Alabama's health look like?
00:16:34 'Cause that's what a Texas strikes.
00:16:35 They do have a bunch of stud-wide receivers.
00:16:38 - They do.
00:16:38 There's no doubt about that game.
00:16:40 Malachi Moore and Jalen Key
00:16:44 are the two guys that you're talking about.
00:16:46 Malachi Moore had a great summer,
00:16:49 had a great spring, so they're expecting a lot out of him.
00:16:52 They're hoping he can be back as soon as possible.
00:16:56 Jalen Key was a transfer for them.
00:16:58 But look, that's gonna be a real battle
00:17:02 and they need to get those two guys.
00:17:05 What's gonna be crucial is,
00:17:07 can the Alabama defensive front seven
00:17:11 get enough pressure on Quinn Ewers
00:17:15 to really keep him off balance throughout this game
00:17:19 and having both those guys back would be a real help.
00:17:22 That secondary and that defense overall look much better.
00:17:27 I know it was middle Tennessee,
00:17:29 know it was the first game, Gabe,
00:17:31 but big improvement for the tight end this week.
00:17:35 - I brought this up the other night to Cam
00:17:41 and Cam got a laugh and people tuning in.
00:17:45 Gene Stallings.
00:17:46 And I was talking about the old Gene Stallings era.
00:17:49 And Alabama though, playing power football, Cam.
00:17:53 That's what I'm expecting of this offense.
00:17:55 You have Milrow,
00:17:57 he had a nice start against middle Tennessee,
00:17:58 but I just expect them to line up.
00:18:00 Listen, Alabama, one thing that Saban is a master of
00:18:04 is understanding his personnel and what kind of team he has.
00:18:08 And another thing is, Saban's been around forever,
00:18:10 but he'll adapt, right?
00:18:13 He doesn't like throwing the football 50 times a game,
00:18:15 but that was sort of what everyone was doing.
00:18:17 He was like, all right, this is what we gotta do.
00:18:19 This is what we gotta do.
00:18:20 Now I think he sees, he's like, you know what?
00:18:23 Now we're gonna play defense.
00:18:24 We're gonna go back to smash mouth football.
00:18:26 We're gonna hand the ball off.
00:18:27 We're gonna let our quarterback run.
00:18:28 And it's sort of old school Alabama football.
00:18:31 And I'll throw it to you, Ken,
00:18:33 and we'll bring Brent back in.
00:18:34 But I look at that and I just think Alabama
00:18:36 are gonna out physical Texas
00:18:38 and that's gonna be their game plan.
00:18:40 Make Texas stop us, run the ball down their throat
00:18:42 and punch them in the mouth.
00:18:44 - You know what, Gabe, you bring up good points.
00:18:46 And I was thinking about Texas,
00:18:47 so you know, getting seven points in this game.
00:18:48 The more I think about it, I'm like, no.
00:18:50 I just, it was a game that I crossed off my board.
00:18:53 I think Alabama at home, the way the SEC,
00:18:56 the way they've been like disrespected
00:18:58 at the start of the year, this is huge for them.
00:19:00 This is a statement game for Alabama against Texas too.
00:19:03 And you know what, Texas,
00:19:04 they didn't play that good against Rice.
00:19:06 I watched that game.
00:19:07 I was on with Cermonello
00:19:08 and Rice actually moved the ball on these guys.
00:19:10 That's the Rice Owls, a very, very intelligent school.
00:19:13 I'm telling you, like Alabama is gonna be,
00:19:15 they're angry going into this game.
00:19:17 And I saw a lot of good things.
00:19:18 You're right, Brent's right.
00:19:19 It was middle Tennessee State,
00:19:21 but Saban and these guys, that's the smart thing to do.
00:19:23 What do you do good at?
00:19:24 What do you get?
00:19:25 Power, power, power.
00:19:27 We talk about the Detroit Lions too.
00:19:28 Like you got a great offensive line,
00:19:30 you run the ball and you smash these guys.
00:19:33 That's what you do, Maranci.
00:19:33 So I have a feeling that Alabama will run the ball more
00:19:37 and try to bully Texas.
00:19:38 And I think that's a very good game plan.
00:19:39 I agree with you, Maranci.
00:19:41 - How much of a statement game is this, Brent, for Alabama?
00:19:44 Because it does feel like this.
00:19:45 They have a chip on their shoulder.
00:19:47 Not a lot of teams would have a chip on their shoulder
00:19:49 being ranked fourth coming in.
00:19:51 This is their lowest ranking in over a decade, Brent.
00:19:53 How much of a chip, how much of a statement
00:19:55 and chip on their shoulder
00:19:56 did Obama have coming into this game tomorrow?
00:19:59 - Oh, I think it's a huge one.
00:20:00 I don't think there's any doubt about that.
00:20:02 And the reason they're going back to the style of football
00:20:05 that you and Cam talked about is,
00:20:08 Saban knows he's got a much better offensive line this year
00:20:11 with J.C. Latham and guys like that.
00:20:13 And they've got a full running back room.
00:20:15 You remember Jace McClellan,
00:20:17 guys that he had the long run against Texas
00:20:21 and Austin last year.
00:20:23 He is back.
00:20:25 And that's really the strength of his offense
00:20:27 is the offensive line and the running backs.
00:20:31 And guys, don't forget, Melroe, Kentucky, run.
00:20:35 And that's going to be a real issue for him on this game.
00:20:39 Is he a one read quarterback and then he takes off.
00:20:43 He's going to have to be patient,
00:20:45 but Melroe gives them a running threat
00:20:48 that frankly they did not have last year with Bryce Young.
00:20:51 - And Nick Saban is 28 and two.
00:20:54 I saw Brent against his former assistants.
00:20:57 I guess the two is Kirby smart, right?
00:20:59 That's it?
00:21:00 - Yeah, the good call, Gabe.
00:21:02 - Yeah, if you think about it, Cam, like that's it.
00:21:05 - It's not a good call.
00:21:06 - Georgia, that's it.
00:21:06 - Georgia, 22 and Sarkeesian the one.
00:21:09 What do you think, Brent?
00:21:11 Like, is it good?
00:21:12 Last year was 2019.
00:21:13 So a lot of people are hanging their hat on that.
00:21:15 And they say, well, and it was 2019
00:21:17 and they don't have Bryce Young.
00:21:19 They don't have this.
00:21:20 They're not as good.
00:21:22 They don't have Gibbs, et cetera.
00:21:24 Yeah, this game's in Tuscaloosa.
00:21:25 That's a big time difference, isn't it?
00:21:27 I think Alabama are going to win by double digits, Brent.
00:21:30 - Well, and the other thing that really benefited Alabama
00:21:34 in that middle of Tennessee game,
00:21:36 they had two penalties, they had zero turnovers.
00:21:40 And guys, part of the times problem last year was,
00:21:44 and Gabe, you and I talked about this
00:21:45 in the off season is,
00:21:48 (upbeat music)
00:21:50 - There's going to be an energy to game time decisions
00:22:02 that you will feel night in and night out.
00:22:04 We're going to go through every single thing.
00:22:05 And I've got a great team behind me
00:22:07 that's going to help me get the job done.
00:22:08 I want this to be the place that people come to.
00:22:12 We are going to hit every single one of those markets
00:22:15 that you need to know about.
00:22:17 There is not going to be a better place,
00:22:19 I promise you, than game time decisions.
00:22:21 We will have everything at our disposal
00:22:23 and we will use that to our advantage.
00:22:25 I'm Kevin Walsh.
00:22:26 Tune in to game time decisions
00:22:27 from six to 8 p.m. Eastern on Sports Critic.
00:22:31 - Biggest discount we've ever gotten in fantasy football
00:22:33 on the March accident.
00:22:34 Even though he signed the long-term extension,
00:22:37 we simply have never been able to get him
00:22:40 at the price that you're getting him this season
00:22:42 because of the injury that he had last year.
00:22:44 - That's how freaking good he is.
00:22:45 And guess what?
00:22:46 Quarterback scoring, pretty flat.
00:22:48 So you want the guys who can totally go nuclear
00:22:51 for one week, the championship week,
00:22:52 obviously would be very nice.
00:22:54 So.
00:22:55 - Fantasy sports today, only on Sports Grid.
00:22:59 Dave Shariff and straight from Las Vegas, Nevada.
00:23:02 - This is for all of us old guys.
00:23:04 This is a newspaper.
00:23:06 Nobody can just wear this.
00:23:08 - Are the Warriors the favorites entering game number five?
00:23:11 - Yeah.
00:23:12 - Should have one more.
00:23:15 - That's all we asked for.
00:23:16 - Hey, one for OJ?
00:23:18 - Look at the change.
00:23:19 Superman moment, look out.
00:23:21 - Might be worth a trip.
00:23:22 I mean, I'll come pick you up at the airport.
00:23:24 - I love the blue.
00:23:25 I love the orange and this chicken.
00:23:27 - Only on Sports Grid.
00:23:29 (upbeat music)
00:23:31 - I want to watch Braylon Allen not run
00:23:33 into 14 defenders on a play.
00:23:36 And he's going to run wild this year.
00:23:38 And I believe that Wisconsin is much better.
00:23:41 - And you look at the schedule, Ben.
00:23:42 I mean, they play Michigan, they play Penn State,
00:23:45 they play Notre Dame.
00:23:46 All three of those teams can pound a rock
00:23:49 and they can't stop the run,
00:23:51 even with Jim Knowles in year number two.
00:23:53 - College football today, only on Sports Grid.
00:23:58 (whistle blows)
00:24:00 - Football and back.
00:24:03 - Sports Grid, road to kickoff.
00:24:05 - To get him at 12 to one double digits in season,
00:24:09 I think it's pretty good value.
00:24:10 - If the game is in Philly, I think I'd agree with you.
00:24:11 Arizona is just trash.
00:24:13 - He's the best running quarterback I've seen.
00:24:16 - See, I love those low totals.
00:24:17 He went to pumps on the first play.
00:24:19 - Exactly as I expected it to though.
00:24:21 Low scoring, ugly game.
00:24:22 Bet the under, love the under.
00:24:24 - That was the cutter.
00:24:25 - Cut him.
00:24:28 - It's smarter to be on Sports Grid.
00:24:30 - I think the 21 wins is phenomenal,
00:24:35 but celebrating what you've done in August
00:24:38 at the end of the day is mute.
00:24:40 It really is, it's ridiculous.
00:24:42 All that matters is October.
00:24:44 I don't care about August.
00:24:45 - Pharrell, coast to coast, only on Sports Grid.
00:24:50 - Sports Grid, the only streaming sports betting network.
00:24:54 Tips, info, and insights to up your IQ.
00:24:57 It's smarter to be on Sports Grid.
00:25:00 (upbeat music)
00:25:03 - This is Sports Ranch.
00:25:18 I am Gable Maranci, Sirius XM channel 159
00:25:21 on the Sports Grid radio and television network.
00:25:23 Shout out to all of our television affiliates.
00:25:24 We have Brett Beard from First Coast News,
00:25:26 Jacksonville, Florida, and the House Heisman Trophy voters.
00:25:29 So let's wrap up the Texas-Bama game.
00:25:33 We're gonna give our picks later,
00:25:35 but Brett, I think this is a massive statement game.
00:25:38 You mentioned Latham.
00:25:39 He seems to be the one that's representing the veterans.
00:25:43 They know what needs to be done.
00:25:45 I just think the physicality of Alabama in the trenches
00:25:48 will be too much for the more finesse-like
00:25:51 Texas Longhorns, Brent.
00:25:53 - Yeah, and look, both these teams know each other real well.
00:25:56 They've got coaches, Jeff Banks on that Texas staff,
00:26:00 Bo Davis on that Texas staff.
00:26:03 They were both in Alabama at one point.
00:26:05 So guys, there are no secrets really in this ball game
00:26:09 is what it amounts to.
00:26:10 I think a lot of this is what Gabe touched on earlier,
00:26:14 that the key to the game is going to be
00:26:17 the Alabama offensive line
00:26:19 versus Bo Davis's defensive line,
00:26:23 and who wins that battle is gonna be huge.
00:26:25 And I think too, look, Quinn Ewers is a better quarterback.
00:26:29 I don't doubt that by any stretch of the imagination,
00:26:32 but here's the reality.
00:26:34 And Gabe and I talked about this the whole summer.
00:26:37 If Melro can stay within himself
00:26:40 and he can break off a few runs,
00:26:43 and he's got a pretty good deep ball too,
00:26:46 I think Bama behind that crowd has got a good shot
00:26:50 at being able to win this game.
00:26:51 So, but even the losing team, the playoff committee,
00:26:56 if you get that far,
00:26:58 they would appreciate a game like this.
00:27:00 I think it will be important for them.
00:27:02 - Yeah, don't be like LSU though and get throttled.
00:27:05 Remember we talked so much about,
00:27:06 well, even if you lose the game, it won't be that bad.
00:27:09 Well, it depends on how you lose the game.
00:27:11 - Right, exactly.
00:27:14 - So let's just keep blasting through it.
00:27:16 I'm excited, Cam, for this.
00:27:17 I know there's a game, you're gonna get fired up, Cam,
00:27:19 we're gonna get to, but A&M in Miami,
00:27:21 I brought it up, Brad.
00:27:23 Last week, I don't think it was a great week for the SEC.
00:27:25 You and I talked last week, Brad, Florida,
00:27:27 that was an ugly loss against Utah in week zero.
00:27:31 South Carolina got pushed around by North Carolina
00:27:34 in all aspects.
00:27:35 Like it's one thing to lose in a track week,
00:27:36 they lost in the trenches.
00:27:37 LSU were flat out embarrassed.
00:27:40 The ACC punched the SEC in the mouth.
00:27:43 Here's another opportunity to find out
00:27:45 if it was real or not.
00:27:47 A&M beat the Canes 17-9 last year.
00:27:49 I think they're both better football teams.
00:27:52 I think A&M are a better football team, Brett and Cam,
00:27:55 but I'll throw it to you, Brett.
00:27:56 A&M aren't the best road team,
00:27:58 and they haven't been the best road team.
00:28:00 And it's been their first road game,
00:28:02 and they're actually fired up for real right now
00:28:04 in Coral Gables.
00:28:05 Tyler Van Dyke's an NFL caliber quarterback.
00:28:09 Miami are a lot like A&M.
00:28:11 They haven't won a big game in a while.
00:28:13 Like, so someone's gotta win this game.
00:28:15 What do you think?
00:28:16 What are you hearing from the A&M perspective, Brett?
00:28:19 - Well, I like A&M in this game.
00:28:21 I think A&M has the better lineup scrimmage, frankly.
00:28:25 I mean, McKinley Jackson and Walter Nolan
00:28:28 are almost unblockable on that A&M defensive line.
00:28:33 That's gonna be a real challenge
00:28:34 for the Miami offensive line,
00:28:36 that they've got some transfers that are helping them.
00:28:40 Now, Shannon Dawson is the new offensive coordinator
00:28:43 at Miami, and they're going to more of the air raid
00:28:46 with Tyler Van Dyke, as you mentioned.
00:28:49 The thing that helped Miami last week,
00:28:51 and that went over Miami of Ohio,
00:28:53 is they had 250 yards rushing
00:28:56 with Mark Fletcher, Henry Parrish, and Donald Chaney.
00:29:00 But A&M, and guys remember that,
00:29:05 you remember that new offensive coordinator at A&M?
00:29:08 Has won Bobby Petrino.
00:29:10 And so far, he and Jimbo have done very well together.
00:29:13 Connor Wiegman is a good quarterback.
00:29:17 Guys, I'm just telling you, this A&M wide receiver room,
00:29:22 Noah Thomas, Evan Stewart, Aniah Smith,
00:29:26 may be the best, and this is not hyperbole,
00:29:29 may be the best wide receiver room in the SEC.
00:29:33 And the question, guys, is can Miami cover those guys?
00:29:38 I think they cover most of them.
00:29:40 I'm not sure they can cover all of them.
00:29:42 - And what Brent just said, can they cover the guys?
00:29:46 I was thinking, can they cover the four cameras?
00:29:48 (laughing)
00:29:50 The real question is, can they cover?
00:29:52 Oh my God, it's the real question, Brent.
00:29:54 - Dude, that's Stewart's idea.
00:29:55 - Brent's not a betting man.
00:29:57 He's not a betting man.
00:29:58 - He's a peace talker.
00:29:59 - Yeah, and you guys know, what do we know about Miami?
00:30:02 I don't wanna be that guy, Gabe,
00:30:03 but big games, the Hurricanes.
00:30:05 - Oh, I don't trust Christopher either.
00:30:06 - I've seen it year after year after year.
00:30:09 Yeah, like it's just, I don't trust them.
00:30:11 I'm with Brent.
00:30:12 Like, I know, Gabe, you bring up a good point
00:30:14 with Texas A&M and the road,
00:30:16 but those receivers, he brings up great points.
00:30:18 You can't cover them all.
00:30:20 Somebody's gonna be open.
00:30:21 There are better teams.
00:30:22 I look at up and down the lineups.
00:30:23 Texas A&M is superior to Miami.
00:30:25 I will lay the three and a half with the edge.
00:30:27 - I'll get into the trends after, Cam,
00:30:29 once Brent's gone.
00:30:30 Later, with Rob Vito and Tony and stuff,
00:30:31 we'll get into some trends about A&M on the road.
00:30:34 Okay, speaking of quarterbacks,
00:30:37 let's talk about a quarterback, actually,
00:30:39 that one of the most underrated players in college football
00:30:43 and maybe the most underrated team in college football.
00:30:46 And Cam, I'm sure, is gonna get fired up
00:30:48 about the Tulane Green Wave against Ole Miss tomorrow, Brent.
00:30:52 Hey, you got Ole Miss and Jackson Darton company.
00:30:55 This offense is starting to come together.
00:30:56 They're in a rhythm.
00:30:58 But man, Michael Pratt from Baton Rouge, actually,
00:31:03 from SEC country, Brent, this kid is amazing, man.
00:31:07 I mean, people don't talk, they beat USC last year.
00:31:09 They beat Taylor Williams, they beat USC last year.
00:31:12 Last week, guys, he had more touchdown passes
00:31:14 than incompletions.
00:31:15 He went 14 of 15 with four touchdown passes.
00:31:18 But like serious NFL caliber throws,
00:31:21 Brent, this guy's a big time quarterback.
00:31:23 What do you think of this Ole Miss-Tulane game?
00:31:26 - I love this game.
00:31:27 I think it's one of the better games of the day.
00:31:29 It's really under the radar.
00:31:32 Now, here's the other thing that helps Pratt out, too,
00:31:36 is they've got a really good defense.
00:31:38 They've got a pass rush.
00:31:40 They sacked the South Alabama quarterback five times.
00:31:43 They had five takeaways.
00:31:45 And they've actually got a defense that can stop the run.
00:31:49 Guys, here's what's different about Ole Miss
00:31:51 that people don't realize.
00:31:53 They think that Kiffin really leans on the pass.
00:31:58 The truth of the matter is, they're a running team.
00:32:00 And that's what he loves more than anything else,
00:32:04 is to be able to run the ball.
00:32:05 And Quenshawn Junkins is one of the better running backs
00:32:09 in the SEC and also the nation.
00:32:11 Now, also keep this in mind.
00:32:14 Pete Golding went from Alabama as the coordinator to Ole Miss.
00:32:19 And it's going to take a while for Ole Miss' players
00:32:24 to adjust to what Pete Golding wants to do.
00:32:27 I think Ole Miss wins probably in a shootout.
00:32:31 But look, guys, I think we're all together with this.
00:32:34 This is going to be a really good game.
00:32:36 Tulane is going to give them all kinds of problems.
00:32:39 Cam, this is one of the games I'm most looking forward to seeing.
00:32:43 I'm looking forward to seeing the Colorado game.
00:32:44 I want to see Colorado and Nebraska.
00:32:46 I want to see A&M and Miami.
00:32:49 But Ole Miss and Tulane, one of the games of the day, Cam.
00:32:52 Who do you like?
00:32:53 What do you like about this game?
00:32:54 I lean to Tulane in the over.
00:32:56 Everything Brent says.
00:32:57 Tulane is one of those disrespected programs,
00:32:59 and all they do is show up.
00:33:01 Ole Miss has weapons, but Tulane, they're disrespected all the time,
00:33:05 Marenci, and the thing is, they're a great program.
00:33:07 They're getting better all the time.
00:33:08 Great points by you about Pratt.
00:33:10 He's tough.
00:33:11 He delivers.
00:33:12 That total 66 and a half, but I see a lot of points in this game.
00:33:15 I agree with Brent.
00:33:16 I think this is going to be a barn burner, Marenci.
00:33:18 I will take the dog, and I will take the over in this spot.
00:33:21 Give me the green wave to the over.
00:33:23 That's the way I'm going to play the game.
00:33:24 I think it's going to be an absolute 41-37 type of game.
00:33:27 It's going to be crazy.
00:33:28 Agree.
00:33:30 Another fun game in the late-night hours, Auburn and Cal.
00:33:34 Auburn heading west, Brent.
00:33:38 This is a little bit of a tricky spot.
00:33:39 I think people, put it this way, people in SEC country and in Auburn aren't going to
00:33:44 be happy if they lose this game, but Cal might be better than people think they are, Brent.
00:33:50 Good point.
00:33:51 They are.
00:33:52 Gabe, listen.
00:33:53 You understand how difficult it is for these southern teams to go out west.
00:33:57 There is an adjustment period when you get out there, and I still think Auburn probably
00:34:02 is the better football team.
00:34:05 They had 59 points last week against UMass, and they had two quarterbacks.
00:34:12 Robbie Ashford played very well, scored three touchdowns rushing, and Peyton Thornton, who
00:34:18 comes from Michigan State, I think he's done a pretty good job.
00:34:22 Now, when is Jarquez Hunter, one of the better running backs in the league, going to get
00:34:27 back into action, maybe against Cal?
00:34:30 I mean, look, Justin Wilcox, they've got a good defense.
00:34:35 They just demolished North Texas.
00:34:38 Ben Finley comes in, throws for 300 yards.
00:34:42 Jay Knott runs for 178.
00:34:44 Look, I still think Auburn wins because they've got the better roster, but guys, would this
00:34:51 surprise you at all if Cal is able to take them deep into the third and maybe even the
00:34:57 early fourth quarter?
00:34:59 Cal looked great last week.
00:35:00 They look like a totally different team, Gabe.
00:35:02 Like Cal, I told you it was a great week for the Pac-12, but Cal was fantastic last week.
00:35:06 - Wilcox is a good coach.
00:35:07 - Like, they really surprised.
00:35:08 I agree.
00:35:09 - He's a good coach.
00:35:10 All right, we've only got like two minutes with Brent here.
00:35:13 So Brent, you know, there was so much hype about Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes,
00:35:18 but week one, they lived up to it, and I brought him up.
00:35:21 He's like, "Messy, Brent."
00:35:23 Most viewed game of the week last week, highest rated game in the history of Fox's season
00:35:27 openers for college football ever.
00:35:30 Tomorrow, cheapest ticket to get into the stadium, Brent, is 450 bucks for a college
00:35:36 season opener.
00:35:37 450 bucks.
00:35:38 - What was it last year?
00:35:39 Five bucks?
00:35:40 - Dude, last year there was 85,000 empty seats in that stadium.
00:35:43 - It appears more.
00:35:44 - It was like Mork and Mindy, the old show Mork and Mindy that start with the shot over
00:35:48 the top of the stadium, but it was empty.
00:35:49 - Yeah.
00:35:50 - Yeah, remember that, Brent?
00:35:51 They showed up over the stadium.
00:35:52 There's no one there.
00:35:53 - They're cold, Gabe.
00:35:54 - Now you get 500 bucks.
00:35:55 - Yeah, I remember that.
00:35:56 - You get 500 bucks.
00:35:57 - Yeah, but unbelievable.
00:35:58 They're living up to the hype.
00:35:59 I think they beat Nebraska tomorrow, Brent.
00:36:00 - Well, and listen, here's my thing with this game is with the skill position players that
00:36:11 Colorado got, look, if they score 24 points, is there any way Nebraska can score over three
00:36:19 touchdowns?
00:36:20 I'm not sure that there is, but you think about, guys, Tim and Gabe, what is this doing
00:36:26 for Colorado's recruiting?
00:36:27 Listen, at some point, he's got to really benefit from this, and that recruiting is
00:36:33 good for both.
00:36:34 - They already have the 2025 number one recruit wanting to visit now.
00:36:39 - Yep, that's right.
00:36:40 - Colorado.
00:36:40 - There is going to be an energy to game time decisions that you will feel night in
00:37:03 and night out.
00:37:04 We're going to go through every single thing, and I've got a great team behind me that's
00:37:07 going to help me get the job done.
00:37:08 I want this to be the place that people come to.
00:37:12 We are going to hit every single one of those markets that you need to know about.
00:37:17 There is not going to be a better place, I promise you, than game time decisions.
00:37:21 We will have everything at our disposal, and we will use that to our advantage.
00:37:25 I'm Kevin Walz.
00:37:26 Tune in to game time decisions from 6 to 8 p.m. Eastern on Sports Critic.
00:37:30 - Biggest discount we've ever gotten in fantasy football on Lamar Jackson.
00:37:35 Even though he signed a long-term extension, you simply have never been able to get him
00:37:40 at the price that you're getting him this season because of the injury that he had last
00:37:43 year.
00:37:44 - That's how freaking good he is.
00:37:45 And guess what?
00:37:46 Quarterback scoring, pretty flat.
00:37:47 So you want the guys who can totally go nuclear for one week.
00:37:51 A championship week, obviously, would be very nice.
00:37:54 So...
00:37:55 - Fantasy sports today, only on Sports Grid.
00:37:58 - Dave Sharifan, straight from Las Vegas, Nevada.
00:38:03 This is for all of us old guys.
00:38:04 This is a newspaper.
00:38:06 Nobody can just wear this.
00:38:08 Are the Warriors the favorites entering game number five?
00:38:11 - Yeah.
00:38:12 - Okay.
00:38:13 - Should have one more.
00:38:14 - That's all we asked for.
00:38:15 - Yeah, Dave, wardrobe change?
00:38:16 - Look at the change.
00:38:17 Superman moment.
00:38:18 Look out.
00:38:19 - It might be worth a trip.
00:38:20 I mean, I'll come pick you up at the airport.
00:38:24 I love the blue.
00:38:25 I love the orange.
00:38:26 And this chicken, only on Sports Grid.
00:38:31 - I want to watch Braylon Allen not run into 14 defenders on a play.
00:38:36 And he's going to run wild this year.
00:38:39 And I believe that Wisconsin is much better.
00:38:41 And you look at the schedule, Ben.
00:38:42 I mean, they play Michigan, they play Penn State, they play Notre Dame.
00:38:46 All three of those teams can pound a rock.
00:38:49 And they can't stop the run, even with Jim Knowles in year number two.
00:38:53 - College football today, only on Sports Grid.
00:38:57 - Football is back.
00:39:03 - Sports Grid, road to kickoff.
00:39:05 - To get him at 12 to one double digits preseason, I think it's pretty good odds.
00:39:10 - If the game was in Philly, I think I'd agree with you.
00:39:12 Arizona is just trash.
00:39:13 - He's the best running quarterback I've seen.
00:39:15 - See, I love those low totals.
00:39:16 He went to props on the first play.
00:39:17 - Exactly as I expected it to, though.
00:39:21 Low scoring ugly game.
00:39:22 Bet the under, love the under.
00:39:23 - That was the cover.
00:39:24 Caught him.
00:39:25 - That was a good play.
00:39:26 - It's smarter to be on Sports Grid.
00:39:33 - I think the 21 wins is phenomenal.
00:39:35 But celebrating what you've done in August, at the end of the day, is mute.
00:39:40 It really is.
00:39:41 It's ridiculous.
00:39:42 All that matters is October.
00:39:44 I don't care about August.
00:39:46 - Pharrell, coast to coast, only on Sports Grid.
00:39:51 - Sports Grid, the only streaming sports betting network.
00:39:54 Tips, info, and insights to up your IQ.
00:39:58 It's smarter to be on Sports Grid.
00:40:05 - For Colorado State, I'm just logging into StubHub right now, and it's like Colorado,
00:40:22 and it says Colorado State football.
00:40:24 I'm like, get out of here.
00:40:26 Come on.
00:40:27 No one's going to Colorado State football.
00:40:28 I know, sorry, Kevin.
00:40:29 - You guys are good guys.
00:40:30 - Colorado State better hire someone to counter Dion, man.
00:40:36 I'll tell you that.
00:40:38 Brent Beard, all right.
00:40:39 Oh my God.
00:40:42 Let's see now.
00:40:44 So for the record, they're sold out their season tickets.
00:40:49 Like on the secondary market, even.
00:40:51 You can't even buy double right now.
00:40:53 All right, so you can sit in the upper deck right now for $411.
00:41:00 - That's brutal.
00:41:03 That's nuts.
00:41:05 - For a while.
00:41:09 - How much is an Alabama game in the upper deck?
00:41:13 How much is that?
00:41:15 - My guess, Cam, tomorrow?
00:41:17 I bet you can get into the Alabama game for 125.
00:41:21 - I was going to say like 100.
00:41:23 - I'm going to say the cheapest ticket.
00:41:26 - They're spoiled though.
00:41:29 They have a great team every year.
00:41:30 So it's not like Colorado.
00:41:32 People are going nuts right now.
00:41:33 That's the whole difference, right?
00:41:34 - How did you guys-
00:41:35 - I retweeted it, Brent.
00:41:36 Did you see the Saban with Eli Gold and Holly Roe?
00:41:45 There was a little radio clip.
00:41:46 It was great.
00:41:47 A 10-year-old kid called in.
00:41:48 - Yeah.
00:41:49 - So there's Nick Saban, Cam.
00:41:52 His line is, "Be where your feet are."
00:41:55 That's what he tells the players.
00:41:56 So the kid called in and said, "Coach, I just want to know, what do you mean by be where
00:42:00 your feet are?"
00:42:01 And it was funny.
00:42:02 He's like, "All right, kid."
00:42:03 He goes, "Look down at your feet."
00:42:04 He goes, "That's where your feet are."
00:42:05 And everyone gets a cheap laugh, right?
00:42:06 So I was like, "Come on, coach.
00:42:07 Is that all you're going to give the kid?"
00:42:13 But then, no.
00:42:14 But then he got all real.
00:42:15 So he starts coaching the kid on the phone, Cam.
00:42:16 He goes, "Keep your feet means look down at your feet and remember where you are and just
00:42:21 think about the play."
00:42:22 He goes, "Don't think about what you're going to do after the game.
00:42:25 Don't think about what you're...
00:42:27 Don't start thinking about this and that."
00:42:28 He goes, "One play at a time."
00:42:31 And then he goes...
00:42:32 So in other words, he goes, "Don't look into the stands and look at pretty girls."
00:42:36 That's what he said to the kid.
00:42:37 He goes, "Don't look into the stands and look where your girlfriend is at or look for a
00:42:42 pretty girl."
00:42:43 And Holly Rowe says to him, "Coach, he's 10 years old."
00:42:47 And then Saban Jobs, he goes, "I know when I was 10, I was looking in the stands at the
00:42:51 girls."
00:42:52 And everyone's like howling.
00:42:53 It was great.
00:42:54 Great little...
00:42:55 And Brent, you've been around him.
00:42:59 I tell people that some of his jokes are actually...
00:43:02 You can't repeat on the air, but I remember I was scared.
00:43:05 I was someone...
00:43:06 I knew a football coach and he told me, "I'll introduce you.
00:43:08 I know Saban and stuff."
00:43:09 I was like, "I'm scared of that guy."
00:43:11 He goes, "No, no.
00:43:12 He's not funny as hell in real life.
00:43:13 He goes, "He's really, really funny."
00:43:16 So he has a reputation like he's this big mean guy, but he's actually not.
00:43:21 He's just an intense coach, right Brent?
00:43:23 Yeah, he is.
00:43:24 And I think he is also...
00:43:26 Believe it or not, he's pretty reserved.
00:43:30 But guys, here's the thing that is magical about him.
00:43:34 When he talks to recruits, he communicates with them about as well as anybody does.
00:43:43 Now, the recruits will tell you very quickly, he don't play.
00:43:47 That's what you hear is he's serious.
00:43:50 He tells me what I want to know.
00:43:53 And look, if they're with him for a few minutes, he'll start coaching them.
00:43:57 They're so quiet.
00:43:58 He'll tell them where their pad level should be, where their feet should be, and the angle
00:44:03 that they should take.
00:44:05 But that's why he's one of the best there's ever been, is he's such a good communicator.
00:44:11 All right.
00:44:12 So I asked you, Brent, you're a Heisman Trophy voter.
00:44:16 I just want to bring up the fact that Travis Hunter's getting a lot of excitement as far
00:44:20 as people talking about the Heisman Trophy.
00:44:22 How unique is it?
00:44:23 And as a Heisman Trophy voter, how much do you take notice of a guy that's playing both
00:44:28 sides of the ball?
00:44:29 Oh, I think you've got to take notice of that.
00:44:32 And I've always thought and never had a problem with even voting for a defensive player.
00:44:38 And when you're doing what he's doing, and you're playing the number of plays, and you're
00:44:42 getting that kind of attention, it's hard.
00:44:46 You can't ignore that.
00:44:47 I mean, he is now being considered.
00:44:50 But guys, the thing I've always said is, it's like the national championship.
00:44:55 You never win it in September.
00:44:57 You just start to get noticed.
00:45:01 That's what's key for him.
00:45:03 It's like the Masters, Gabe.
00:45:05 You can lose the Masters in the first, you know what I mean?
00:45:08 But that's the whole thing.
00:45:09 You know what I mean?
00:45:10 It's a long run.
00:45:11 So Brent's telling everyone to settle down.
00:45:12 It's been one game.
00:45:13 Exactly.
00:45:14 Exactly.
00:45:15 So Brent, do you think more players are going to play both ways?
00:45:18 That's a great thing.
00:45:19 Gabe and I talked about it on the other show.
00:45:21 It's like, when you have a dynamic player like that in college, I know it's risky, but
00:45:25 look at Colorado's doing.
00:45:26 Do you think more teams are going to go to that?
00:45:29 Because it's working for the Buffs.
00:45:30 Well, and listen, sports writers love unique situations.
00:45:36 And if you're a two-way player, that's something that really gets their attention.
00:45:43 It really makes you wonder, okay, here's my question for this.
00:45:47 I love what he's doing, but at some point, does he hit a wall, maybe what, guys, in mid-October,
00:45:57 and it starts to take its toll on him?
00:46:00 He can't play 119 snaps a game.
00:46:03 No, no.
00:46:04 Exactly.
00:46:05 You know what I mean?
00:46:06 And he's going to get lit up on offense.
00:46:08 It's going to wear him out.
00:46:09 It is.
00:46:10 Brent Beard with us.
00:46:11 So, Brent, we'll get you out of here, but I wanted to ask you, you were at the FSU-LSU
00:46:15 game, and it's sort of connected in a way, because Mike Norvell's turned his thing around
00:46:20 in Tallahassee right now.
00:46:22 People are starting to buy in for real, and it's probably a good thing, because if you're
00:46:28 Deion Sanders in Colorado, how long is he going to be in Colorado for?
00:46:31 What would have been a college football job that would have been perfect for him, Cam?
00:46:37 Florida State.
00:46:38 Yeah.
00:46:39 Right?
00:46:40 Yeah.
00:46:41 But Norvell is getting it done.
00:46:42 I threw it out there, just speaking out loud.
00:46:46 They're in the same outflag commercials, funny commercials.
00:46:49 Imagine Deion Sanders, future coach of Alabama.
00:46:52 Alabama?
00:46:53 Yeah.
00:46:54 And how the hell does he end up in one of these massive high-profile schools?
00:46:59 But I wanted to ask you, before we get you out of here, Brent, in the stadium, being
00:47:04 around the LSU faithful, how shocked were they?
00:47:08 How angry, disappointed?
00:47:10 What was the talk in Tiger Nation about, for lack of a better term, just getting punched
00:47:16 in the mouth like they did, and humiliated?
00:47:18 Well, here's what shocked them, is in the third and fourth quarter, Florida State manhandled
00:47:26 them at the line of scrimmage.
00:47:28 That's a thing nobody saw coming, and that's what really was surprising.
00:47:34 But to go with what you're talking about with Norvell, he is doing a masterful job, hasn't
00:47:40 he, guys, bringing these transfers in and melding them to that offense and that defense.
00:47:49 Let me tell you something.
00:47:50 This Keon Coleman kid, the transfer from Michigan State, who just -- I mean, they destroyed
00:47:58 LSU's secondary, he and Johnny Wilson.
00:48:02 They were really impressive.
00:48:04 And again, Kevin and I were talking about this a minute ago.
00:48:08 Here's the thing.
00:48:09 They've got a huge game at Clemson.
00:48:12 They have not beaten Clemson since, like, 2013 to 2014.
00:48:18 They've got to get over that hump at some point.
00:48:22 And because the ACC has done away with divisions, Gabe and Cam, could they play Clemson twice?
00:48:30 That's a possibility, because you're going to get the two best schools, and the Conference
00:48:36 or going to the ACC Championship game.
00:48:39 And Gabe, we said this a minute ago, look out for this Louisville team.
00:48:43 I'll tell you what, I was really impressed with what Brom has done at Louisville.
00:48:50 Now, they may not get that for this year, but this is going to be a fascinating ACC
00:48:55 before it's over.
00:48:56 >> Let's start right off that Tar Heel team.
00:48:59 >> Exactly.
00:49:00 >> Let's be real.
00:49:01 Let's start right off the Tar Heel.
00:49:02 >> You're the best.
00:49:03 >> I don't buy into Clemson.
00:49:04 I think Clemson have problems for real, guys.
00:49:06 I don't think they have problems.
00:49:07 >> It's like in the past, all the teams, like when we grew up, like Florida State, right
00:49:12 again, and stuff like that.
00:49:13 I love it.
00:49:14 >> Washington, Michigan, Georgia.
00:49:15 >> Yeah, yeah.
00:49:16 >> It's like Notre Dame.
00:49:17 >> I like it.
00:49:18 >> Me and Brett talk about it.
00:49:19 It's a blue blood top ten era once again.
00:49:23 >> It is.
00:49:24 >> Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, Washington, Huskies.
00:49:27 All those sort of old school teams that we grew up with.
00:49:31 Brett, it's always great having you on.
00:49:32 I really enjoy doing it television style.
00:49:36 Sometimes Brett will be on different nights.
00:49:38 He goes to games.
00:49:39 Any games this weekend?
00:49:40 Are you staying in the office this weekend?
00:49:42 >> I'm actually staying here, but next weekend I'm going to, since they're so close, being
00:49:49 in Jacksonville, Alabama plays USF in Tampa next week.
00:49:54 So I'm going down for that.
00:49:56 I'm going over to see the Gators soon.
00:50:00 Florida State again.
00:50:01 And then as you guys know, Florida, Georgia is in Jacksonville at the end of October.
00:50:08 So we'll get a chance to see Georgia.
00:50:11 And look, this Georgia team, as good as they are, guys, they've got some issues.
00:50:17 They've got running back injuries.
00:50:21 They're not where Kirby wants them to be at this point.
00:50:24 They'll be fine.
00:50:25 There's no panic there.
00:50:28 But keep your eye on some of those issues Georgia's got right now.
00:50:32 >> Where's my Kleenex?
00:50:33 Sorry, Brett.
00:50:34 >> I don't know.
00:50:35 I was thinking that chair looks pretty comfortable.
00:50:36 Man, that looks great.
00:50:37 It's like a baseball mitt.
00:50:38 It's beautiful.
00:50:39 >> Hey, they get Ball State tomorrow.
00:50:40 >> Yeah.
00:50:41 What's the line, Gabe?
00:50:42 >> 41 and a half, Cam.
00:50:43 >> Yeah.
00:50:44 >> 41, 42.
00:50:45 >> I met a guy at my parents' senior center.
00:50:46 I bet him 100 bucks.
00:50:47 He took UNLV.
00:50:48 I go, I take Michigan.
00:50:50 So I need your Wolverine.
00:50:54 So yeah, when I visited my mom, this guy's a gambler.
00:51:01 Yeah.
00:51:02 80-year-old guy.
00:51:03 He likes to throw it down.
00:51:04 >> Hey, Michigan's defense was elite last week.
00:51:07 All right?
00:51:08 So we know that.
00:51:09 I think their offense was a little frustrated.
00:51:11 Don't forget, they didn't have their offensive coordinator.
00:51:13 Harbaugh wasn't there either.
00:51:14 I think their offense will get more on track against UNLV.
00:51:19 I'm expecting a 42-3 Michigan win tomorrow.
00:51:22 >> Perfect.
00:51:23 >> I don't think UNLV are going to be able to score much.
00:51:26 >> I agree.
00:51:27 They might get zero.
00:51:28 >> Their team total, Cam, is 9 and a half.
00:51:30 I don't think they're going to get there.
00:51:32 >> Under.
00:51:33 >> Yeah.
00:51:34 >> Brent, always awesome.
00:51:35 Where can people find your podcast, Brent?
00:51:37 First Coast News in Jacksonville?
00:51:39 >> Right.
00:51:40 >> But what about the podcast?
00:51:41 >> Yeah.
00:51:42 And also, everything's on Twitter.
00:51:45 It's @BrentBeard, B-E-A-I-R-D.
00:51:49 As you mentioned, First Coast News, the podcast.
00:51:53 I actually do a couple of them.
00:51:55 One, we sing Matthew's, the former Gator Corps.
00:51:58 >> Oh, nice.
00:51:59 >> Yeah, I've enjoyed that.
00:52:01 That's a Facebook Live thing that we do.
00:52:03 And then I do one with my friend Travis Reier called SEC Second Helpings.
00:52:10 The SEC is emboldened in there.
00:52:12 It's from a Leonard Skinner album, okay?
00:52:16 That's where the next --
00:52:17 >> What's this?
00:52:19 >> Yeah, with that, too.
00:52:23 And, Tim, I've got to say before I go, the one I do with Gabe, that's got to be the favorite of all, right?
00:52:32 >> Exactly.
00:52:33 It's nice meeting you, Brent.
00:52:35 This is the first time I get to go on with you.
00:52:37 It's a pleasure, man.
00:52:38 This has been a lot of fun.
00:52:39 >> Yeah, me too.
00:52:40 Hey, listen, enjoy the rest of your day.
00:52:43 I've got to tell you a story because I'm sure you have some about Bob Hugo because I met Bob in Las Vegas.
00:52:49 You want to talk about a character in Gatorland, huh?
00:52:52 >> Really?
00:52:53 >> Yes.
00:52:54 >> Put it this way.
00:52:57 I met him at the lingerie ball.
00:52:59 >> Nice.
00:53:00 [ Laughter ]
00:53:02 >> That's amazing.
00:53:03 >> I met a former Florida Gator quarterback at the lingerie ball in Vegas.
00:53:07 >> I love that.
00:53:08 >> That's where the story starts so you can imagine.
00:53:11 >> Oh, yeah.
00:53:13 >> You're a class act, Brent.
00:53:15 Always a pleasure, my man.
00:53:16 Thanks for the time.
00:53:17 >> Me too, guys.
00:53:18 Take care.
00:53:19 We look forward to next week.
00:53:20 >> Thanks, Brent.
00:53:21 Nice guy, Brent.
00:53:22 >> Oh, man, he rocks.
00:53:24 Brent's amazing.
00:53:25 I love this guy.
00:53:26 He's a great kid.
00:53:28 >> I like what he said to his Eisenman Trophy voter about Travis Sundin.
00:53:32 He goes, "You don't win in September, right?
00:53:34 It's one game."
00:53:35 >> Exactly.
00:53:36 It's a long haul.
00:53:37 >> All right, let's do this thing.
00:53:38 This is "Sports Race."
00:53:41 [ Music ]
00:53:59 >> There is going to be an energy to game time decisions that you will feel night in and night out.
00:54:04 We're going to go through every single thing, and I've got a great team behind me that's going to help me get the job done.
00:54:08 I want this to be the place that people come to.
00:54:12 We are going to hit every single one of those markets that you need to know about.
00:54:17 There is not going to be a better place, I promise you, than game time decisions.
00:54:21 We will have everything at our disposal, and we will use that to our advantage.
00:54:25 I'm Kevin Walz.
00:54:26 Tune in to game time decisions from 6 to 8 p.m. Eastern on "Sports Critic."
00:54:30 >> Biggest discount we've ever gotten in fantasy football on Lamar Jackson.
00:54:35 Even though he signed a long-term extension, you simply have never been able to get him at the price that you're getting him this season because of the injury that he had last year.
00:54:44 >> That's how freaking good he is, and guess what?
00:54:46 Quarterback scoring, pretty flat.
00:54:48 So you want the guys who can totally go nuclear for one week.
00:54:52 A championship week obviously would be very nice.
00:54:54 >> Fantasy sports today, only on "Sports Grid."
00:54:59 >> Dave Charefan, straight from Las Vegas, Nevada.
00:55:02 >> This is for all of us old guys.
00:55:04 This is a newspaper.
00:55:05 Nobody can just wear this.
00:55:07 >> Yeah.
00:55:08 >> Are the Warriors the favorites entering game number five?
00:55:11 >> Yeah.
00:55:13 >> Okay.
00:55:14 >> One more.
00:55:15 >> That's all we asked for.
00:55:16 >> Hey, one-girl team.
00:55:18 >> Look at the change.
00:55:19 Superman moment.
00:55:20 Look out.
00:55:21 >> It might be worth a trip.
00:55:22 I mean, I'll come pick you up at the airport.
00:55:24 I love the blue.
00:55:25 I love the orange.
00:55:26 And this chicken, only on "Sports Grid."
00:55:29 >> I want to watch Braylon Allen not run into 14 defenders on a play.
00:55:35 And he's going to run wild this year.
00:55:37 And I believe that Wisconsin is much better.
00:55:40 >> And you look at the schedule, Ben.
00:55:42 I mean, they play Michigan, they play Penn State, they play Notre Dame.
00:55:45 All three of those teams compound the rock.
00:55:48 And they can't stop the run, even with Jim Knowles in year number two.
00:55:52 >> College football today, only on "Sports Grid."
00:55:56 [Whistle blows]
00:55:59 >> Football is back.
00:56:01 >> "Sports Grid," road to kickoff.
00:56:04 >> To get him at 12-1 double digits in season, I think it's pretty good odds.
00:56:09 >> I think I agree with you.
00:56:11 Arizona is just trash.
00:56:13 >> He's the best running quarterback I've seen.
00:56:15 >> See, I love those low totals.
00:56:16 You win your pups on the first play.
00:56:18 >> Exactly as I expected it to, though.
00:56:20 Low-scoring, ugly game.
00:56:21 Set the under, love the under.
00:56:23 >> That was the cutter.
00:56:24 >> Cutter, yeah.
00:56:27 >> It's smarter to be on "Sports Grid."
00:56:30 [Whistle blows]
00:56:32 >> I think the 21 wins is phenomenal.
00:56:35 But celebrating what you've done in August at the end of the day is mute.
00:56:39 It really is.
00:56:40 It's ridiculous.
00:56:41 All that matters is October.
00:56:43 I don't care about August.
00:56:45 >> Pharrell, coast to coast, only on "Sports Grid."
00:56:50 >> "Sports Grid," the only streaming sports betting network.
00:56:54 Tips, info, and insights to up your IQ.
00:56:57 It's smarter to be on "Sports Grid."
00:57:00 [Music]
00:57:14 >> Yeah, he's on CFL.
00:57:16 >> Yeah, that's the --
00:57:19 >> Let's do this thing.
00:57:20 34-23 and game, set, match.
00:57:24 We also have game, set, match from Flushing Meadows as well.
00:57:26 But first things first, the Kansas Jayhawks have just won.
00:57:30 The game is officially over right now.
00:57:32 The coaches are shaking hands.
00:57:34 34-23, final score.
00:57:37 Cam, I was all over the Jayhawks.
00:57:39 I went big.
00:57:40 In fact, I went like big, big on this.
00:57:43 But it depends on when you bet the total.
00:57:47 Because there were some 57s.
00:57:49 There might have been 57 and a half.
00:57:51 So it depends on, like, did people push?
00:57:53 You're not a big total bettor, I know.
00:57:55 But I can tell you, I played this, and I was like, I'm not getting screwed over at this number.
00:58:01 I won.
00:58:02 I took it at 55, at -138.
00:58:05 >> Smart.
00:58:06 And another thing I did, Gabe, I usually don't do this with college games.
00:58:09 But I like the Kansas City-Detroit game.
00:58:11 I took the Jayhawks to the over and under.
00:58:14 It's a middle job.
00:58:15 So we had a good night with that game.
00:58:16 I can't lie, though.
00:58:17 >> Oh, I want to do that in the future with college games.
00:58:20 >> No, no, no, no, no.
00:58:21 I only did it with that game because I thought, like -- no, you don't do it -- no, you're right, though.
00:58:24 You don't do it with every college game.
00:58:26 >> Stay away from the winning margins and the teasers in college.
00:58:28 We'll get into that later.
00:58:29 >> But standalone games is different than, like, the whole sked, I find.
00:58:33 But I did take Alkerez, who lost to Medvedev, and that's shocking to me.
00:58:37 I can't believe you did that.
00:58:38 >> You just played in traffic and won.
00:58:40 You got lucky with that one.
00:58:41 >> I did.
00:58:42 Yeah, white frogger.
00:58:43 I made it.
00:58:44 I went from the log to the lily pad.
00:58:45 I got there.
00:58:46 You're right, but it's dangerous.
00:58:47 Next time I'm going to get plowed.
00:58:49 >> It's like you drop your cell phone into an alligator pit at the zoo and you reach your hand and you pull it out fast.
00:58:55 It's like, oh, no, bro.
00:58:56 I wouldn't do that again.
00:58:59 >> You're right.
00:59:00 Teasers in college is stupid, but I'm just having some fun.
00:59:02 That's all.
00:59:03 Sometimes I do that.
00:59:04 >> You know, listen.
00:59:05 I'm pretty good, actually.
00:59:07 I've done less of these things, but I can't lie.
00:59:10 What I'll do, Cam, I never use teasers as like a main base.
00:59:14 >> I agree.
00:59:15 >> It's a dessert.
00:59:16 It's a dessert.
00:59:17 So it's like I place all my bets and at the end tonight I was like, you know what, I played this, I played that.
00:59:22 I'm just going to play everything that I played but on a 10-point teaser, but I'm not going crazy with teasers.
00:59:27 I'm just going for the jugular.
00:59:29 Less plays, more money.
00:59:30 >> Yep, teasers, creme brulee or like a blizzard from Dairy Queen.
00:59:34 But it's after dinner.
00:59:36 Don't be scared, homie.
00:59:38 [ Laughter ]
