Joe Buck rounds-up Newcastle United's summer transfer window. Despite a quiet deadline day, the club signed Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall throughout the window to bolster Eddie Howe's squad ahead of their return to the Champions League.

00:00 So, Newcastle United's summer transfer window has come to a conclusion and as anticipated
00:07 it was a very quiet deadline day at St James' Park. All about outgoings rather than incomings.
00:13 We did see a move for Shrewsbury, Youngstead, Travis, Harness on deadline day but he's mainly
00:21 a boss of the under 21 squad. Other than that, Newcastle completed their business a few weeks
00:25 ago with the signing of Lewis Hall. Overall, I think it's been a promising window for Newcastle
00:30 and I've seen a lot of debate recently after the two defeats about having Newcastle actually
00:35 strengthened from last summer and whether the players have signed, would any other European
00:41 chasing team or certainly traditional top six team in the Premier League sign them.
00:46 And all that kind of thing. But I think Newcastle do end the window in a stronger position than
00:49 they began it. So that's a positive and that's certainly something that every transfer window
00:54 under these owners, we've seen that Newcastle are ending the window in a better position.
00:58 They've only lost Alan Simpson-Maximin which, okay, for many fans, myself included, it's
01:02 a big loss of a cult favourite but in terms of output, goalscore and assists, it's not
01:08 really a big miss for Eddie House. So that deal, as much as it's losing a cult hero,
01:14 you can see why Newcastle sanctioned that and then that deal allowed them to bring in
01:18 the likes of Tino Liveramendo and Lewis Hall at the end of the window. Obviously we saw
01:22 Sandra Tenale join right early on, Harvey Barnes obviously came in, so midway through
01:28 the window and then Liveramento and Lewis Hall nearer the end and then them two are
01:32 very much for the future. But we've already seen the impact Tenale and Harvey Barnes will
01:35 have on the team, even though it's only been three games in the season. So, you know, plenty
01:39 of hopes and expectations that they can continue that form. And yeah, as I said, I think it's
01:45 one that Newcastle are definitely ending the window stronger than they started. They've
01:48 got more depth. Could they have done with another centre-back? Very probably. I think
01:52 going in with the same centre-back options they finished last year is a risk, especially
01:57 as we've seen with Sven Bottman's injury. I think they're putting a lot of pressure
02:00 on Cher and Bottman to get through, at least until January without injury. Obviously they've
02:04 got Burn, LaSalle, Dumiters, Bagob even Alex Murphy maybe. But you know, you don't want
02:08 to be playing too many games without that combination of Cher, Bottman and Burn in there.
02:14 So that may be one to keep an eye on going through the season. But as I said, I think
02:19 it's been a promising window. They've kept hold of all their big players, which at the
02:23 beginning of the window, you wouldn't have thought that might be a problem. You know,
02:26 there was always going to be an interest in Bruno, you know, Isak might have got a bit
02:29 of interest. Obviously we've seen St Maximus go. So it's always going to be interesting
02:33 to see some of Newcastle's big players. But then when the whole Saudi Pro League, you
02:37 know, them stamping up the big Premier League players, there was a bit of worry that Newcastle
02:41 could be one of the teams that lost some of their biggest names, but they haven't yet
02:44 or they haven't, sorry, this summer. That could all change going into the future. But
02:48 as overall, I think you've got to see Newcastle are in a better position now. And now Eddie
02:53 Howard has been given the tools by the owners to compete. You know, he's been given a decent
02:58 squad depth for the Champions League. Obviously they'd like a couple more, but as with every
03:01 team in the world. So now the team have got to deliver on the pitch and you know, that
03:05 starts very much before the international break next weekend. See if they can get one
03:10 more win and at least a positive result on display against Brighton. And then once you
03:14 hit the international again, you've then got a run of four or five games before the next
03:16 seven nationals, including the Champions League game and the Carabao Cup against Man City to
03:20 really, you know, test them out and really show what this Newcastle United team is made
03:24 of. But overall, I think you've got to be positive with that, with that summer market.
03:28 I think that if you were going to score it out of 10, you'd probably say seven or eight,
03:32 maybe, maybe even the eight out of 10. I think the only thing that would push up to a permanent,
03:37 sorry, push up to more of a 10 out of 10 would be if they could add a centre back in that
03:43 window. But other than that, I think, you know, they've added well, they've added smart,
03:46 they haven't, they've spent money as always, but they've stayed within financial fair play
03:50 constraints and it's another summer of building. That squad, hopefully, you know, next year
03:56 will, this time next year will look even better after another couple of windows on this ownership.
04:01 And then you add a Dastial that they've just signed as well will help with that. So, you
04:04 know, it's all positive. It's all, it's just one of the things that it's going to, all
04:07 of this is going to take time, but it's another positive window and some good, good signings,
04:11 lots of promising signs for the future. Lots of young players brought in and a good end
04:15 to a very, very solid window on timeside. So yeah, all exciting, all looking forward
04:21 to the future with matches, lots of matches coming up, you know, it's going to be Premier
04:26 League Champions League Cup. It's going to be a hectic few months in Newcastle United
04:29 and of course the best way to stay up to date with all the latest Newcastle United news
04:32 and updates is with the Shields Gazette.
04:34 Bye.
