00:00 Welcome to the Caye Rica Chronicles, the people show.
00:11 Ladies and gentlemen, it's truly the most wonderful time of the year.
00:15 Volleyball season is here, football season is almost upon us, but this is my gut reaction
00:21 to the Nebraska women's volleyball team setting a world record.
00:25 Was anybody surprised?
00:26 Was anybody shocked?
00:27 Uh uh, I don't think so.
00:28 Now do me a favor, if you agree with me and you think the Husker fans, because facts don't
00:33 care about your feelings and the facts say, the Husker fans are the greatest fans under
00:38 God's hot sun, if you agree with me, smash that like button.
00:41 I'm talking about in football, 389 consecutive sellouts every single game since 1962.
00:46 Whether we're playing Oklahoma or Timbuktu, you and I, we're setting records in volleyball.
00:53 The only profitable women's sports program in all of Power 5 is the Nebraska women's
00:59 volleyball program.
01:00 That's a testament to Coach Cook, the program, and the great people and fans of the state
01:06 of Nebraska.
01:08 They set the women's sporting event world attendance record tonight with 92,003 people
01:15 in attendance.
01:16 Alright, now number four Huskers, okay, playing Nebraska of Omaha.
01:20 Now there's only been three head coaches in the history of Nebraska volleyball.
01:24 Did you even know that?
01:25 I didn't.
01:26 Okay, 48 years ago, 1976, Pat Sullivan was the first coach, then Terry Pettit, and then
01:32 he handpicked his successor, John Cook, who since has won four national championships.
01:38 Now, the Husker volleyball team originally played in a 4,000 seat arena, then about 10
01:43 years ago they moved to the Devaney Center, which is now an 8,000 seat arena.
01:49 106 consecutive sellouts in volleyball, okay.
01:54 16 Final Four appearances, the most in the Big Ten.
01:57 They've played in seven out of the top ten most attended matches in NCAA history, five
02:03 national championships, the third most in the entire country, and 99 All-Americans,
02:08 the most in NCAA history.
02:10 And when I've had a chance to chat with Coach Cook over the years, one of the reasons he
02:14 attributes this success to, this loyalty to the program, to his players, the former players
02:20 coming back and interacting with the current players, and the bond, the camaraderie between
02:24 the Nebraska volleyball alumni over the years and passed down through the decades.
02:30 I gotta be honest with you, the tunnel walk, this is gonna sound so stupid, but I'm man
02:35 enough to admit it.
02:36 I teared up a little bit and here's why, because every tunnel walk I ever did, again, whether
02:40 we were playing Kansas State, Colorado, remember I was a Big 12 guy, Texas, or no name university,
02:47 no disrespect intended, I always got emotional.
02:49 I always had tears in my eyes.
02:51 Watching those ladies get the opportunity to experience that, to come out in front of
02:55 92,000 plus people, experience the tunnel walk.
02:59 Watching Coach Cook was awesome, because he's actually a football fan, he used to be a football
03:02 coach way back in the day.
03:04 That had to be such a cool experience for those fine young women.
03:08 Now, this is a team that has no seniors.
03:11 You know what, really quick, really quick, I wanna get back to that, but I wanna give
03:14 a shout out to my sponsor, DPS Concrete Construction.
03:19 And again, I'm kinda picky on who I do sponsorships with.
03:23 I want quality, okay, business is quality, people who run those businesses, Jason Armstrong
03:28 does a phenomenal job, and he wants quality workers to work for him.
03:32 Alright, so this show is brought to you by DPS Concrete Construction, check them out,
03:36 okay, at DPS Construction dot net.
03:39 But if you are a diesel mechanic, CDL driver, or concrete finisher looking for work in the
03:45 Omaha metro area, go to DPS Construction dot net.
03:49 This is the employer for you.
03:52 Okay, now let's get to one of my own tweets, alright.
03:57 Here's something I put out before the game.
03:59 The US attendance record for women's sporting event is 90,185, that was a 1999 World Cup
04:05 soccer final between the US and China.
04:08 Memorial Stadium's attendance record is 91,585, that was Nebraska versus Miami in football
04:15 from 2014.
04:17 The women's sports attendance record before tonight was 91,648, and if you didn't hear
04:24 me earlier, 92,003 is now the record, thanks to the state of Nebraska, and Nebraska volleyball,
04:31 and the passionate fans that reside in our phenomenal state.
04:35 Alright, now here's some more things, okay, about Nebraska volleyball.
04:41 544 weeks in the top 10 of the coaches poll, that's an NCAA record.
04:45 Okay, they have led the NCAA in attendance, led the NCAA in attendance every single year
04:50 since 2013, that's 10 years running, okay.
04:55 People traveled from all over the world to get to this volleyball match tonight.
04:59 You had people from North America, obviously, South America, Europe, Asia, all over the
05:03 place, okay.
05:04 And here's the cool thing, you know, they were talking about trying to set the women's
05:09 attendance record, the volleyball record, and John Cook was like, "Let's go to Pinnacle
05:13 Bank Arena and play where the basketball team plays," and Trev Alberts was like, "Eh,
05:17 eh, let's go inside Memorial Stadium."
05:19 And I know for a fact that it took them days, if not darn near a week, to set up so they
05:23 could do this volleyball match there.
05:25 Alright, now again, number four Nebraska is now 4-0, okay.
05:29 Nebraska, Omaha, wish them a great season, they're 0-3 at this point.
05:32 Now Nebraska, no seniors, young team, but several very young, talented ladies on this
05:40 team, okay, and multiple talented and experienced transfers as well.
05:44 I am predicting, I am, I'm predicting another Final Four run.
05:49 And it's crazy because they could be even better next year, but we got this year right
05:52 here right now in front of us.
05:53 And here's something I'm keeping my eye on, as soon as this gut reaction is over, number
05:57 21 Arkansas, okay, is ahead of number one Wisconsin in volleyball, keep our eye on that.
06:04 Now I got a couple of questions for you fine folks at home.
06:06 Were you surprised this attendance record was broken?
06:09 I wasn't, but let me know in the comments below, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube.
06:13 Alright, will this record that was set tonight, 92,003 people, okay, will that record ever
06:20 be broken?
06:21 Alright, and do you believe Nebraska volleyball, like I do, is going to make another Final
06:26 Four run also?
06:27 Give me your prediction, football season starts tomorrow Husker fans, give me your prediction
06:31 for Nebraska versus Minnesota and that game tomorrow.
06:34 Now real quick, Carriker Chronicles.com, in case you missed it, I gave my prediction,
06:39 okay, where I predicted an upset, Nebraska versus Minnesota.
06:42 If you missed that show, my son, join me, check it out at Carriker Chronicles.com.
06:46 My gut reaction to 11 black shirts being handed out is at that same website.
06:50 Also, look for my gut reaction tomorrow, after Nebraska versus Minnesota.
06:55 And that football game is over.
06:57 Plus, my further breakdown, I'm going to pick something from that game, something that stands
07:01 out and I'm going to dive into it on Friday.
07:03 Again, you can find it all at Carriker Chronicles.com and until tomorrow, Go Big Red!
07:09 And somebody sent me an updated volleyball shirt, this is from 2017.
07:14 It once was new.
07:15 Go Big Red and always remember to THROW THE BUTT!
07:18 God.
