00:00 Was tonight a night for you?
00:16 Yeah, listen I think we played against an excellent team over two legs. There were times
00:21 in the two games where we did well and obviously we scored three goals over the two games so
00:27 we're bitterly disappointed with the way we defended at times in key moments over the
00:31 two legs and certainly tonight when we get the game back to 2-1 you put a little bit
00:36 of intrigue in the air but so to go and concede straight away and I thought the story of the
00:40 two legs was that we couldn't handle Saibari and De Jong as a team in everything that we
00:47 tried we couldn't handle them. In times in the second half tonight we had to go for it
00:52 obviously because we were down at half time and we actually had opportunities in the second
00:57 half to score more goals but I think it's clear for everyone over the two games that
01:01 it's fair that PSV go through and they're an excellent team.
01:05 You now drop into the Europa League, given Rangers' performance in the Champions League
01:09 last year and the margin of victory for PSV tonight do you think that could be a blessing
01:14 in disguise?
01:16 We wanted to get there and we wanted to get there and then you see what the draw brings
01:20 but we haven't made it, we're not going to deny being disappointed. I think we drew the
01:27 hardest opponent we could draw at this stage of the competition if I look at some of the
01:31 other games. Going into the Europa League this year looks as strong as ever with teams
01:36 like Liverpool and other sides in there that you can face so we'll wait and see what the
01:40 draw brings. I think for this team coming together after a lot of change this game come
01:45 far too soon that's what's clear.
01:47 You said just there yourself you want to be in the Champions League, it's not happening
01:51 for you this season, how far away do you think this group are from that level?
01:56 I think this group has got a way to go because it's a new team. The most important thing
02:02 for our fans, for the players and for myself is to get there via the domestic competition.
02:07 We have to win our home league and we haven't done that for a couple of seasons and our
02:11 focus is on that. We have a huge game at the weekend, we'll pick the bones out of tonight
02:16 in the international break. Our focus now has to be on recovering and preparing for
02:20 the weekend and starting the season, going into this international break we obviously
02:25 wanted to try and make the Champions League, we've fallen short, we wanted to be in the
02:28 quarter-final of the cup and we want to be top of the league. Two of those things or
02:32 the last one of those things is in our hands now, our focus has to be on that. It's clear
02:37 as a team we need to improve at this level. I think PSV are an excellent team, I think
02:42 this PSV team is the strongest team I've seen from this club in a while.
02:46 How do you pick them up for Celtic on Sunday? A defeat is one thing but that was a hammering
02:51 tonight.
02:52 In their short words, they were ruthless. The level between this competition and domestic
02:59 is different. We go into it, we'll dust this off, it's a huge game, it's the perfect game
03:04 for us to go into it with. The team we're playing against don't come into it in a fantastic
03:09 place either so it's an intriguing derby at the weekend and everything is to play for.
03:13 Did you expect better for the team tonight?
03:16 I didn't expect us to concede the goals the way that we did.
03:20 What do you put it down to the defending? You're saying that the PSV attackers were
03:26 just too much?
03:27 I think they're a very good team. I thought we found it very hard to look after De Jong
03:32 and the number 10. They won the duels of our centre-backs and it made the game difficult
03:37 for us. As a team throughout we could have shown more quality. I felt we started the
03:42 game quite well but we ended up sitting deep and we couldn't stay with the ball. That was
03:46 partly due to our quality but also partly to the way that PSV stayed with the ball and
03:52 counter-pressed us. I'm not going to sit here and say we were terrible because I also think
03:57 the other team, the resistance was stronger than this team's faced this season. The level
04:02 was too much for us, that was clear.
04:04 Is the challenge for the rest of the new signings to get up to the level that Jack Bolton has
04:14 shown so far?
04:15 I think Jack has shown he's a quality goalkeeper. It was a fantastic signing for us on a free
04:19 transfer of his age and his capabilities for sure.
04:22 A lot of people were surprised not to see Ryan Jack on the team because of his experience
04:28 in these games and the way he's performed, especially last week. Can you explain the
04:33 thinking behind that?
04:34 I think every time I pick a team someone's going to be surprised someone's not playing.
04:37 I don't think that had any outcome in the outcome of the final result of the game. I
04:41 think it was clear over the two legs the better teams gone through so we can pick the bones
04:46 in who could have played or who could have played. I think PSV are a good team and they
04:49 showed it against us tonight.
04:53 Thanks.
05:06 Thanks.
