00:00 How proud are you of the players?
00:11 Yes, so proud of my players and my team. I think we pushed them all the way, gave them
00:16 a proper game. I've been saying all week in the build-up that we weren't just coming for
00:22 the day out and the experience and all that stuff. We wanted to come and give them a proper
00:26 game and go toe-to-toe with them. I think we've done that. I don't think we've disappointed
00:31 on that. We'll see. Just a bit gutted that we haven't pushed them all the way and took
00:36 them to pens. But, yes, I have to be proud of everyone.
00:41 How did it feel to be the first defensive back to start here?
00:48 I thought the kid was outstanding, yes. Credit to himself and his family and the club really
00:54 for developing him. He's been in and out really. We haven't had that much opportunity so far
01:01 this season. But he'd done enough in pre-season that I had the confidence that when we lost
01:08 a couple of lads at the weekend that were unavailable, I had the confidence to start
01:13 him here. What a place to make your full debut. I think he was outstanding.
01:18 How's Adam Glass?
01:24 He's disappointed but we win and lose together. It's never about finger-pointing and blame
01:30 and stuff like that. Bass has been outstanding since he's come to us. Goalkeepers have their
01:36 moments and it's unfortunate you make a mistake as a goalie and more often than not it ends
01:42 up as a goal conceded. Players make mistakes high up the pitch all the time and they don't
01:46 get punished. Certainly no finger-pointing. He's a top goalkeeper and he'll continue to be.
01:52 Will you be able to replicate the fight you showed tonight?
01:59 Yes, we do. That will have taken a lot out of my players physically and mentally to be
02:05 honest. It's a quick turnaround. It will be a different type of game, a different type
02:11 of test. But if we want to be a team that is relentless in what we do and our pursuit
02:16 of success, then you dust yourself down after nights like this and you go to Newport and
02:22 you turn up and you have it there as well. That's what we do.
02:24 What goes through your mind when you see £100m players coming on your team?
02:35 Uh-oh. We knew they were on the bench and to be honest I think their manager is probably
02:44 thinking and hoping that you don't have to use them tonight and that they can have a
02:48 night off. So I think it's a testament, credit to my team, that we got them to a position
02:54 in the game that he's had to make those changes and you're bringing £200m plus players onto
03:01 the pitch. That's credit to us and how we made them approach the game. Obviously knowing
03:11 that extra quality was coming onto the pitch but I think the last 10-15 minutes of the
03:16 game we're pressing, we're trying to counter and we had our moments and certainly we weren't
03:23 just taking the defeat on the chin. We were trying to get at them and we had a couple
03:29 of moments at the end where we might have done.
03:31 Did Mauricio say anything to you about the game?
03:37 No, I just shook his hand at the end. Obviously he's doing his press and stuff like that so
03:40 I haven't spoken to him.
03:41 What did you make of his cutbacks?
03:46 I think just the belief. We came into the game with belief because of the start of the
03:51 season that we've had and I think that gave us the confidence to approach the game the
03:55 way that we did and to come here and really take it to Chelsea. I think that should just
04:01 double down our belief. The fact that we've come here and given them the type of game
04:05 and given them the headaches that we have and we've had to do it in a different way,
04:10 approach the game differently to what we would do in a League Two game. Preparing to not
04:15 have the ball for long periods but being disciplined in our shape and stuff like that. We've had
04:21 to do it a different way tonight, haven't quite got the result but I think we can take
04:24 so much belief and heart from it.
04:26 How important is the game for you?
04:40 I think it's a great night for the club. We knew what it would be like when we drew,
04:45 when the draw came out. We knew if they'd have let us have more tickets Chelsea then
04:50 I think we'd have sold them too. There was such an appetite and enthusiasm for the game.
04:55 Buoyed on now by the performance and the scenes at the end with the supporters, you can tell
05:01 how behind this team they are and the positivity there is in the football club because of the
05:06 start of the season we've had. I think what they're seeing the lads do is fight and give
05:12 everything for the shirt. First and foremost that's what Wimbledon fans expect and that's
05:19 what we demand as a staff. They're doing that tenfold, I can't fault them for that. I think
05:25 they're appreciating what they're seeing from the lads.
05:27 How different is this field compared to last season?
05:46 I think you can see it's a totally different team. It's a completely different team, it's
05:51 a different personnel, it's got a complete freshness to it which is obviously something
05:55 that I was big on in the summer about our recruitment and getting it right and making
06:00 sure that it felt and looked a whole lot different. It certainly does, we've got different players
06:06 and we play in a different way and that's a distant memory now. We don't always get
06:13 asked about it last season but at our club we don't talk about it. We spoke about it
06:16 on day one of pre-season and then we said we'd never speak about it again. I get asked
06:22 in interviews and press about it but I think it's probably about time we put a line under
06:27 that and this is a new team with a new focus and a new path.
06:31 How confident are you of the new 18-year-old?
06:52 We've got high hopes from him. If we didn't think he was ready we wouldn't have given
06:56 the opportunity but the professionals that signed this year, Aaron Sassu, Paris Lott,
07:01 Morgan Williams, they've all had opportunities. They've had opportunities because they deserve
07:05 it and it's credit to them what they've done in pre-season. If I hadn't seen that I wouldn't
07:10 have the confidence to involve them but they've forced my hand so they're very much a part
07:15 of what we want to do.
07:16 No questions, words worth, no?
07:39 No.
