00:00 Alright, Tuesday practice, I thought guys brought good energy, pretty good focus, good
00:10 carry over from what we introduced there the last few days, we're towards the end of last
00:14 week and I thought the work was what we needed it to be and just continuing to push to be
00:22 cleaner, crisper, trying to push the tempo in all three phases of what we're trying to
00:28 do but I thought we got some really good competitive reps, still got the good on good work and
00:33 saw some nice speeds showing up and you guys look like they bounced back from a couple
00:39 of days of physical work, obviously yesterday being their off day but excited that game
00:45 week is here and look forward to building throughout the course of the week and obviously
00:53 preparing everything we can to go be our best comes Sunday night so like what I saw today.
00:57 I think when you have a common mindset, a common expectation of what we want it to
01:19 look like and guys embrace that expectation, it's easy to get distracted, it's easy to
01:25 get distracted in football, it's easy to get distracted in life but you get to make the
01:28 choice of what you're willing to give for what you say that you want.
01:32 I thought our walk throughs, I thought like I said just the relationships, the way guys,
01:38 the way they ate together, you felt a purpose and that's what we're looking to continue
01:46 to build but we got the right guys, I say that all the time, we're looking for the right
01:50 fit for Florida State and I think we found them and we're just continuing to build them
01:55 to allow them to go be their best.
02:01 Right now we're tracking that hourly, if we need to adapt and adjust then we will but
02:09 right now tomorrow is going to be a lighter day, kind of a big mental day for us and we'll
02:15 see what that looks like when we get to that point but right now not anticipating any major
02:22 changes.
02:23 We asked you about him the other day, Fabian Lovell, just kind of his emergence.
02:29 We knew with Fabian it was going to be a process through camp, Fabian's played a lot of really
02:33 good football, I think he's done a remarkable job, you see the physical shape that he's
02:40 in, he's stronger than he's ever been, he's moving his feet, he'll look great, the way
02:44 that he's been able to change direction, his leadership, he's really taking that to another
02:50 level so I'm just excited about what I've seen.
02:53 Last week was really the first big push for him, he's been working really hard, obviously
02:58 conditioning and some of the fundamental work but I thought last week was the first physical
03:04 good on good work that we really put him in and he showed improvement and that's what
03:10 you want to see from what I know is a great player and definitely carried that over today,
03:15 saw some really good work and excited to have him rolling here this week.
03:19 You mentioned the leadership for him, I know that's been a thing for a while for him, especially
03:26 for the young guys, how he plays.
03:29 Yeah, Fabian's got a great voice on this team and he's one that cares about his teammates,
03:33 he cares about this program, what we're doing, I think he's really pushed himself even when
03:39 moments where it's hard, where it's challenging, he went through that experience a year ago
03:44 where he couldn't play in some games but still trying to make an impact on others and I think
03:48 he's even taken another step in his maturity for what he wants to be and that's where when
03:55 you have older experience, players that have done it on the field, you want to see that
04:02 urgency to continue to improve and I think Fabian's been a great example of that in the
04:06 way that he's led and it obviously shows up when he gets out on the field and even being
04:12 limited throughout fall camp, he's playing at a very high level.
04:15 With a guy like this, how much does he live on the down low?
04:21 He's all over, he's lined up out at essentially what would be a nickel position in their 4-3,
04:28 he's been a defensive end, he's lined up as a mugged up inside linebacker, playing a true
04:34 middle stack linebacker, he can literally do it all.
04:37 He's a dynamic player, somebody you have to account for, they also have good players around
04:43 him that you see times where they also utilize him to get protection calls and things like
04:51 that and attack opposite.
04:52 So they know what they're doing, they do a good job with him and it's his versatility
04:57 of what he can do as a rusher but also there in coverage, you've got to be aware of him.
05:03 Ryan Kelly said Jared Burst is a game wrecker and he has to account for him in every situation.
05:08 Is there a delicate balance between doing what you want to do, being who you are and
05:13 having to factor in a guy like Perkins on that side?
05:15 Yeah, I mean it's, every game it's built around matchups and we try to put our guys in the
05:23 best situation to go showcase all that they can do and when you're facing teams that value
05:31 and utilize the versatility of guys' skill set, then you've got to be aware of that.
05:34 But there's some times that it's more extreme in what you have to do and it kind of limits
05:41 probably a little bit of the volume of what you're going to try to do.
05:45 Going into a game one, you've got to expect it all.
05:50 We've been doing things that they've shown, we're doing things that who knows, maybe they've
05:55 never shown but just what if.
05:59 That's our job as coaches and utilizing walk-throughs, utilizing those times this last week, just
06:04 trying to play every scenario of what could happen and kind of go from there.
06:09 How does an actual day of practice, a day being on Sunday, kind of affect the person
06:14 who's usually on Saturday?
06:16 Well for us, everybody gets 25 practices so it's not like we're gaining any advantage.
06:24 We've structured it a little bit different just to take this game, we can extend it a
06:27 day from what normally would have been the case in a normal week.
06:32 So that allows tomorrow to be a little bit more of a mental day for us, we'll have a
06:39 Wednesday and then be able to roll through the end of the week of how we normally get
06:43 the game prepped.
06:44 I like how it kind of unfolds, it's ironically the same structure as what we had last year
06:52 because we played the game and then the game being on a Sunday we had that same structure
06:58 going into the LSU game.
06:59 The fact that you're leaving a bunch of guys that are tough and are not making the run,
07:00 you take them out and put them to rest, is that stuff that you see in the motivation
07:01 or is that something that you're going to do?
07:02 I think it's both.
07:13 There is an expectation, if you come here you're going to be tough.
07:17 Even if you don't enjoy some of those parts of the game all the time, we're going to help
07:23 develop that.
07:27 Even in those areas where you're going to see that growth, you're going to see that
07:31 improvement.
07:32 There are guys that wouldn't be here if I didn't think they had it in them.
07:38 But you absolutely evaluate that for the toughness, for the desire, for the want to.
07:44 Sometimes it's hard to evaluate toughness when guys don't know what they're doing.
07:50 I think when you see guys grow in their understanding of what to do, you see that next step in the
07:55 physicality that they're able to put on display.
07:59 Will and want to, that's going to show up in toughness.
08:04 Toughness is not just a physical, let me go see how hard I can hit somebody.
08:07 Toughness is when you don't feel good, when you go through a bad moment, a difficult situation,
08:13 how do you respond in that situation?
08:17 All of it is factored in.
08:18 There is definitely a standard and expectation we have here.
08:22 It's the same standard for coaches that we have for our players.
08:24 We all have to put that on display.
08:26 All right guys, thanks so much.
08:30 Wonderful questions.
