00:25 And detentions rise in northern India under a large police deployment after a wave of
00:30 violence between Hindus and Muslims earlier this month, which resulted in six fatalities.
00:40 Hello from the headquarters of Telesudy English in Havana, Cuba.
00:45 This is From the South.
00:46 I'm your anchor Gladys Quesada and these are the news.
00:49 On Tuesday, police officers, or on Sunday, the police officers in the Peruvian province
00:53 of Tagna repressed anti-government protesters.
00:57 The demonstrators gathered to reject the visit of President Dina Buluarte to that southern
01:02 city as the head of state attended the celebrations of the 94th anniversary of the reincorporation
01:08 of Tagna to the national territory.
01:10 The confrontations took place near the Casa Andina Hotel, where the activity was taking
01:15 place with the presence of Buluarte and the full ministerial cabinet.
01:20 Detainees were taken in the national police vehicles.
01:24 Anti-Buluarte demonstrations have been more scattered, but remain as people keep showing
01:28 their discontent with the de facto installed government.
01:34 Bolivia, the historical and cultural contribution of the Afro-Colombian communities was celebrated
01:42 during the national Afro-Bolivian meeting.
01:44 The minister of the presidency, Maria Nela Prada, pointed out that the people should
01:49 remain firm and united in the democratic and cultural revolution with the reconstruction
01:53 of the economy and the industrialization.
01:56 She affirmed that unity is the cornerstone to consolidate the plurinational, dignified,
02:01 and sovereign state.
02:03 At the same time, she announced the construction of a headquarters for the Afro-Bolivian National
02:07 Council, CONAFRA, and delivered a vehicle so that they could easily commute around the
02:13 region.
02:18 Let's move on to Colombia.
02:20 There, systematic violence persists.
02:22 The murder of a public servant of the Ombudsman's office in the southern region of the Department
02:26 of Córdoba was confirmed on Sunday.
02:29 The victim was identified as William Alberto Álvarez Domínguez, who also worked as a
02:34 lawyer and was a member of the Union of Human Rights Defenders of the Colombian Ombudsman's
02:38 office.
02:39 Álvarez was killed with a knife while he was doing humanitarian work in the municipality
02:44 of Puerto Libertador, located in Córdoba.
02:48 On the other hand, a new massacre was reported in a farm located in the village of La Paloma
02:54 in the municipality of Santa Rosa de Cabal, Rizaralda, in which three elderly people were
02:59 murdered, according to data from the Institute of Studies for Development and Peace in the
03:04 past.
03:05 This is the 63rd massacre recorded so far this year.
03:14 The Colombian Ministry of Finance approved the allocation of resources for the Youth
03:18 in Peace social program.
03:20 This is a plan which, with the government of Gustavo Petro, hopes to subsidize young
03:24 people in vulnerable regions to steer them away from crime and delinquency.
03:29 It is estimated that the program will benefit some 100,000 people between the ages of 14
03:35 and 28, with an investment of almost US$300,000.
03:40 These youngsters will receive a monthly stipend of at least US$245, which will allow them
03:47 to cover their basic needs and prevent them from being recruited to commit crime.
03:56 Also in Colombia, the Ministry of Health alerted about an outbreak of dengue fever that is
04:01 affecting 274 municipalities in the country.
04:04 The National Health Institute recorded that children under 14 years of age are the most
04:09 affected by the virus.
04:11 The health services indicated that although the cases are not serious, the alert is still
04:16 in effect due to the increase in this month.
04:18 Among the most affected localities are the district of Cali and the departments of Bolivar
04:23 and Antioquia.
04:24 The health agency warned that they estimate that the number of cases may increase due
04:29 to the habit of self-medication practiced by the community and urged the people to go
04:34 to a health care center in case of symptoms.
04:42 In Venezuela, members of the armed forces evacuated more than 950 illegal minors from
04:47 areas at the top of the Cerro Yapacana National Park in the municipality of Adapapo in the
04:53 Amazonas state.
04:54 An official report says the illegal minors were being sponsored from the Department of
04:59 Guania in Colombia.
05:01 During the incursion, the military dismantled eight mines and more than 350 makeshift facilities,
05:08 housing hundreds of artifacts necessary to drill and mine the ancestral lands.
05:13 According to the report, three other people were arrested for allegedly violating environmental
05:18 laws by smuggling supplies from Colombia to support illegal mining in Yapacana National
05:23 Park.
05:29 Even on the French island of Martinique, several clashes broke out between police and demonstrators
05:34 in the city of Fort-de-France, resulting in the arrest of two people as well as the destruction
05:39 of several vehicles and street furniture.
05:42 Local media reported that the violence erupted when a group of activists attempted to demonstrate
05:46 in front of the prefecture's headquarters.
05:49 Police dispersed the protesters with tear gas, at which point clashes broke out between
05:54 the two.
05:55 The reason for the protests is unknown, but social media suggests that the activists were
06:00 demonstrating against violence on the Caribbean island and the policy of French authorities.
06:10 An early Sunday morning, a shooting near a Louisville restaurant left one man dead and
06:15 five others wounded by gunfire.
06:17 Louisville police major Shannon Loder reported that law enforcement arrived on the scene
06:22 in downtown Louisville around 3 a.m. and found a dead man at the scene.
06:28 Media reports indicate that one of the victims, a gunshot-wounded man, was taken to a hospital
06:33 in critical condition, and four other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
06:39 Police will continue investigations into what happened.
06:46 And in the U.S., an attorney filed a challenge against Donald Trump in federal court in Florida,
06:51 arguing that the former president cannot run in next year's U.S. presidential election
06:56 because of his likely involvement in the January 2021 Capitol riots.
07:01 The plaintiff, identified as Lawrence Kaplan, alleged that a clause of the 14th Amendment
07:07 to the U.S. Constitution provides that persons who have participated in an insurrection or
07:12 rebellion against the government may not hold any office in the government.
07:17 Kaplan also argued that the indictments filed by juries in Washington, D.C. and Georgia,
07:22 which are investigating Trump's efforts to remain in power after losing the 2020 election,
07:27 make his disqualification from holding public office automatic.

08:04 In France, a Republican Party will ask President Emmanuel Macron for a referendum on immigration.
08:11 Eric Ciotti announced that next Wednesday at the meeting of the head of state, he will
08:15 present the proposal focused on suppressing the rights of illegal immigrants and benefits
08:20 for parents who have not fulfilled their duties.
08:23 Ciotti made the clarifications in response to President Emmanuel Macron, who in recent
08:28 days said that immigration should be reduced and continue to act through schools, integration,
08:34 authority, the Republican economy.
08:53 Now we move on to other topics.
08:54 A serious landslide blocked railway connections between France and Italy.
08:59 The landslide took place in the French department of Savoie, affecting a highway and a railroad
09:04 track.
09:05 According to the report submitted by local authorities, several rocks crashed against
09:09 the protective screen installed at the site as preventive measures.
09:14 So far, several roads have been indefinitely closed and vehicles over 3.5 tons are not
09:20 allowed to drive through the tunnel linking France and Italy.
09:23 Railway services between the two countries have also been interrupted.
09:31 On Sunday in Spain, a strong storm affected the Balearic Islands with torrential rains
09:36 that caused flash floods.
09:38 The storm hit several areas with strong winds and rain.
09:41 Images of furniture blown from a balcony, fallen trees that damaged the cars were disseminated
09:47 on social networks.
09:48 Power outages affected thousands of homes.
09:51 A 300-meter-long tourist cruise ship docked in the Balearic port of Palma collided with
09:57 a moored oil tanker.
09:59 The storm caused 45 flights to be either canceled or diverted at the three Balearic airports,
10:04 Palma, Ibiza, and Menorca.
10:12 On Sunday, Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings opened its treated water distillation and
10:17 discharge facility at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant to journalists.
10:22 The plant, damaged by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, began discharging the treated
10:27 water into the Pacific on Thursday, despite protests at home and in neighboring countries
10:32 that add political and diplomatic pressures to economic concerns.
10:36 The release has been strongly opposed by fishing groups.
10:39 China immediately banned seafood imports from Japan, raising concern among fishing community
10:44 and related businesses.
10:46 The Japanese government and the plant operator claim that the water must be released to make
10:51 way from the decommissioning of the facility and to prevent accidental releases of insufficiently
10:57 treated water.
10:58 However, some officials argue that much of the water retained in the tanks still contains
11:03 radioactive materials exceeding releasable levels.
11:11 And the U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo is on an official visit to China to work on
11:17 preserving trade relations amid geopolitical tensions.
11:20 During her four-day trip, Raimondo will visit the cities of Beijing and Shanghai, where
11:25 she will meet with senior Chinese officials to discuss various issues of common interest,
11:31 including U.S. restrictions on technology exports to China.
11:35 Raimondo's visit, the third by a senior U.S. official in the past two months, comes at
11:40 a time of rising tensions, especially over technology transfer.
11:49 And the Russian investigative committee confirmed on Sunday the death of the head of the Warner
11:53 Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, in the plane crash that occurred this week in the Russian province
11:58 of Tver.
12:00 Following the completion of molecular genetic testing of those killed in the crash, the
12:04 committee said in a statement that the identities of the 10 deceased correspond to the last
12:09 presented in the flight log.
12:11 Following the crash, the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency published the full list of
12:15 people on board of the plane.
12:17 It included Yevgeny Prigozhin and Dmitry Utkin, one of the founders and commanders of the
12:22 Warner Group.
12:23 On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin had expressed his condolences to the families
12:28 of those killed in the crash.
12:33 DNA examinations for the investigations of the plane crash in the Tver region have been
12:41 completed.
12:42 The identities of all 10 victims were established in the results, which correspond to the list
12:48 stated.
12:49 On Sunday, U.S. military officials reported three U.S. Marines have died when an Osprey
12:55 aircraft crashed on a remote tropical island during war games in north of Australia's mainland.
13:01 The aircraft was taking part in the Predators Run drills involving thousands of soldiers
13:06 from the U.S. and Australia, as well as Indonesia and the Philippines.
13:10 The U.S. Marine Protectional Force in Darwin said there were a total of 23 personnel on
13:15 board at the time of the crash, and Australia's military said only U.S. citizens and soldiers
13:21 were involved.
13:22 Five crew members have been flown to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition.
13:27 Rescue efforts were complicated by the location of the crash.
13:31 The remote and sparsely populated Melville Island, about 60 kilometers north of the nearest
13:36 city Darwin.
13:37 Northern Australia has become an important staging ground for the U.S. military in recent

13:48 Asia-Pacific region.

14:34 In India on Monday, tensions rose in the locality of Nuh as a Hindu extremist group called for
14:39 the continuation of a religious celebration that triggered a wave of violence between
14:44 Hindus and Muslims earlier this month, which resulted in six deaths.
14:49 The local police deployed almost 2,000 troops in area after a Hindu religious procession
14:54 organized by the Vishna Hindu Parishad group in the Muslim town of Haryana was attacked
15:00 by a mob on July 31st.
15:02 The violence spread over the next few days to several cities in the state and left six
15:06 people dead.
15:08 This forced the authorities to impose curfews and internet shutdowns.
15:12 In that sense, authorities point out that the event called for this Monday defies the
15:16 refusal of the district administration to grant a permit to celebrate the Hindu festival,
15:22 alleging the prevention of new clashes.
15:30 The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for the inclusion of the African Union in
15:34 the G20.
15:35 The Prime Minister also proposed India as a solution to the problems of the global supply
15:39 chain.
15:40 Ahead of the upcoming G20 summit to be held in September in New Delhi, Prime Minister
15:45 Modi called on the African Union to join the multinational organization that brings together
15:50 85% of the world's GDP and two-thirds of the world's population, even though South Africa
15:58 may be the only member from the African country.
16:01 He also stressed that India is the solution to create an official and reliable global
16:05 supply chain in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
16:13 And we stay in India.
16:14 The government of that country announced new regulations to cut the illegal exports of
16:19 non-Basmati white rice, with restrictions on foreign sales starting on July 20th this
16:24 year.
16:25 Among the new actions, it was determined that contracts for Basmati exports with a value
16:29 of $1,200 per ton and only above must be registered for the issuance of certification of allocation.
16:38 Those below that amount will be evaluated by a committee to be established by the Presidency
16:42 of the Authority for the Development of Exports of Processed Agricultural and Food Products.
16:48 The measure comes after the Ministry of Commerce of the Asian country informed that irregularities
16:53 were detected, such as the misclassification of the cereal to disguise its export, under
16:58 the codes of parboiled and Basmati rice.
17:06 In Gabon, authorities announced a nationwide curfew on Saturday and cut off internet access
17:11 after the end of general voting.
17:14 According to the nation's communications ministry, the curfew will be in effect from 7pm to 6am
17:19 local time, while the internet access will continue to be restricted indefinitely.
17:24 The measure was announced after the inhabitants voted to elect new local leaders, national
17:29 legislators and the next president of Gabon.
17:32 The ministry also explained that the announcement was a result of calls for violence and the
17:37 dissemination of fake news on social networks.
17:41 On Saturday, tens of thousands of people rallied in Nyamé, Nidjia, in support of last month's
17:51 coup, a day after the country's new military leaders gave the French ambassador to Nidjia
17:55 48 hours to leave the country.
17:58 The Séguin-Contouches stadium, the largest in Nidjia, with a capacity of 30,000 seats,
18:04 was two-thirds full.
18:06 And vuvuzelas could be heard.
18:07 Flags of Nidjia, Algeria and Russia dotted the stands, while acrobats painted in Nidjia's
18:12 national colours put a show in the centre of the field.
18:16 RNGs said they fully supported the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland,
18:20 the CNSP, which seized power after overthrowing the government of President Mohamed Bassem
18:25 on July 26.
18:27 The CNSP is focused on not stopping the fighting until the day when there are no more French
18:32 soldiers in Nidjia.
18:38 And the Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, concluded his tour of African countries with
18:43 a visit to Namibia.
18:44 During his trip, he held meetings with different counterparts in order to strengthen bilateral
18:49 ties.
18:50 Namibia was Díaz-Canel's last stop before returning to Cuba.
18:54 During his visit to that nation, he held a meeting with his counterpart, Hague Hainob,
18:59 in which they discussed matters of common interest.
19:02 The Cuban president participated as guest of honour in the celebration of the Heroes'
19:06 Day, which commemorates the country's war of independence.
19:09 At the same ceremony, he received the Order of the Most Ancient World with Shia Mirabilis
19:15 in first degree, the highest decoration of the country.
19:19 The Cuban president previously visited Mozambique, Angola and South Africa, where he attended
19:24 the summit of the Group of Emerging Economies BRICS, held from August 22 to 24 in the city
19:29 of Johannesburg.
