00:03 The Lionesses' recent success has surpassed the pitches they have played on.
00:09 According to the FA, since the latter part of last year,
00:13 interest in women's football has gone up by 12%,
00:16 with awareness of the Lionesses increasing by 32% for girls between age 5 to 16.
00:22 Let's chat to professional football player Michael Meeker
00:25 at the number one football academy to find out the impact of the Lionesses' success
00:31 for the girls in his team.
00:33 Today we will be having a session with our number one football academy girls.
00:39 As you can see they're buzzing, raring to go.
00:42 Obviously looking at the World Cup just gone, now we're unindated in calls,
00:47 which is good for the number one football academy,
00:50 but we've been doing girls football now for years, as you know.
00:55 You've been to the academy before, and it's just getting more popular and popular.
00:59 What they've done in the World Cup was amazing.
01:02 Following the historic win, watched by a peak television audience of 17.4 million,
01:08 on BBC One there has been an increase of 30% of females registered football teams.
01:13 Let's chat to some of these girls from the number one football academy
01:17 to find out why they enjoy the sport.
01:19 I have been following, especially the final,
01:22 which I thought was amazing even though they didn't win.
01:24 I think it's great that women's football has come on this far in the past couple of years.
01:29 It's going to inspire them to play more, like she said, give them more confidence to play.
01:34 Because obviously after the Euros, women's football shut up and everyone got a lot excited about it.
01:40 So I think that it's going to be good and they're going to want to play more.
01:44 It brings the girls confidence as well, knowing that they can look up to them girls and women
01:51 and see that they've made it there so then they can also make it as well.
01:55 I think it's quite good role models for them.
01:58 She liked my life, all I do is play football and I don't know what I'd do without it.
02:03 Especially knowing that you can get to the top with them women.
02:06 And they won the Euros and came second in the World Cup, I think it's so good.
02:12 And it sets a lot of expectations for other people, like they can get there and be like them.
02:18 Being able to do exercise and fitness is all fun.
02:23 Local clubs such as David Lloyd Westbury on Trim are continuing to promote women's football for the girls of Bristol.
02:33 I think it's a great option, especially in the Bristol community, to allow our female members to get involved in sports and to take part in football.
02:42 I think following the World Cup there was a bit of hype at the minute, which is great to have the option here for more females to come down and play.
02:48 While the gender gap in football is still large, the impact of the Lionesses on women's football is clear.
02:55 According to the FA's statistics, popularity for women's football will only increase.
03:00 Only time will tell what the long-term impact of the Lionesses is.
