00:00 I thought today was a real solid day for us.
00:04 It was good moments for both sides, just continuing to push consistency.
00:08 First day where we did break up and got a significant amount of time with scouts.
00:14 We continue to do our crossover work, trying to keep the speed as good as possible.
00:19 There were some up and down moments on both sides, but
00:23 I thought it was a really solid work day.
00:24 Guys are continuing to learn, they're continuing to get better.
00:29 We're gonna implement some of the things that we're looking to do in the first game.
00:33 There's always a little bit of transition on that first day of doing that.
00:38 But I thought all in all it was a good day.
00:42 Got some really quality reps in and
00:46 I'm continuing to work to get better as we get closer to game week.
00:50 Tomorrow we'll have a mock game,
00:54 which will be a lower impact practice for us.
00:58 Physically, but probably one of the more intense mentally.
01:02 Trying to take them through every situation, running everything that could show up.
01:08 We wanna make sure that we present to them,
01:11 just to see them operate in that moment.
01:13 Any questions?
01:16 >> All right, thanks coach.
01:20 >> No questions.
01:20 >> That's a coach.
01:21 >> I'll give one.
01:22 I mean, I tried, look, I even came back.
01:24 >> I'm from Orlando.
01:25 Just playing in Orlando, the program's had great success there.
01:28 Undefeated in 12 games.
01:31 I went last year just playing there and showcasing the program.
01:36 >> That's great to know the record.
01:37 I like that.
01:38 >> 10-0-2.
01:39 >> That's awesome.
01:40 Well, I mean, playing our home state is special.
01:45 And it's kind of ironic to be able to start this season where we finished last
01:49 season.
01:49 And Orlando's a great city for us in a lot of ways.
01:55 And just recruiting, we've got some young men that are from there.
01:58 This is a showcase game.
02:01 And to be able to do that here in the state of Florida, we're excited about it.
02:04 And we know it's gonna have a great turnout.
02:06 And definitely looking forward to it.
02:08 >> Players like to feed off the crowd, should be a pro-seminal crowd.
02:12 That's an important part of the game for them.
02:15 >> Yeah, it's gonna be a great atmosphere.
02:17 Last year we played in New Orleans and it was a great atmosphere there as well.
02:21 I mean, we've got a special fan base.
02:23 And I know being here in our home state, it's definitely gonna be a wonderful
02:28 turnout and we're looking forward to being able to kick off the season there.
02:33 >> Can prime time ABC a chance to showcase the program nationwide?
02:39 >> Yeah, absolutely.
02:39 I mean, it's a wonderful stage.
02:42 It's gonna kick off the year.
02:45 The only game on national television that night.
02:48 I mean, it's gonna be special.
02:50 And you're playing two top ten teams coming into the season.
02:54 Very talented players on both sides.
02:58 But it's come down to execution adjustments and
03:02 be able to go implement the plan on that stage.
03:05 >> When guys work on the scout team,
03:08 you guys have to coach them up on what they're doing there in terms of how
03:11 important that is?
03:12 >> Yeah, absolutely.
03:13 And I mean, there's still a lot of fundamental work that needs to,
03:18 where guys can develop.
03:20 You might be running a little bit different scheme that's mirroring what
03:23 an opponent might do.
03:24 But still about stance, first step, hand placement,
03:27 all the things that can help you be the best player that you can be.
03:31 And you're getting to do it against first, second team guys.
03:34 So you've seen a lot of players throughout the years that have changed
03:39 their future just because of taking a positive approach to what they did on
03:43 scout team.
03:44 Last year, Peter Buller came and talked to our team.
03:48 And his whole message was talking about that year when he was on scout team and
03:55 how that prepared him for all the future success that he was going to have.
03:59 And you look at a lot of great players that have come through this program that
04:02 had to go through that journey.
04:05 And if you embrace it and
04:08 go improve with that daily competition, you're gonna put yourself where you need
04:12 to be.
04:13 >> You have so much talent on that front line, your defense this season.
04:16 What is it about Fabian specifically that makes you guys better up front?
04:19 >> I mean, it's size, speed, mentality.
04:22 He's a physical presence up front.
04:27 And I mean, he's a great leader for us.
04:30 And he's really been ramping up this last week as we've been getting
04:35 close to the kickoff to today was mostly that he's done.
04:38 I mean, looks really, really good moving around.
04:40 So definitely excited about that.
04:44 Tomorrow will be a down day, like I said, from the physical part of it.
04:47 Wednesday, we'll wrap it back up.
04:48 And then you have a few days before we get into our game week mode.
04:52 But definitely excited about the progress I've seen from him and
04:55 just what he means to our defense up front and to this football team.
04:59 >> Was the scouting work today mostly focused on LSU or
05:02 just different schemes that you think you'll see throughout the year?
05:04 >> It was really a first day of getting LSU looks, things that we anticipate.
05:09 LSU's so multiple on both sides of the ball.
05:11 So you're gonna get a lot of different, there's an opportunity to get a lot
05:16 of different formations, alignments, schemes defensively.
05:21 It's a well coached football team.
05:23 So I mean, we're throwing a lot at them.
05:26 And I thought the guys did good with that today.
05:28 >> When you guys saw LSU last year,
05:30 Jane Daniels, it was his first game coaching staff at school.
05:34 When you go back and look at the rest of their season,
05:36 how much more games was it?
05:39 >> You saw a team that they grew throughout the year.
05:42 And it was Daniels as one.
05:47 I mean, you saw that in how he played.
05:49 He was very impactful in our game with his legs and
05:52 the plays he was able to make throughout the contest.
05:56 He's a talented player and he's a guy that you gotta count for.
06:00 Obviously, you see the development and growth and confidence he had within the
06:05 pocket and he's got a tremendous group of receivers to go and throw the ball to.
06:09 Tight ends, I mean, it's a very experienced and tough offense to have to defend.
06:15 So we've got to work cut out for us.
06:17 I mean, you saw a team that grew.
06:19 Same thing defensively, just in what they were able to implement.
06:23 I mean, and obviously, just the way they play.
06:27 >> Coach, you mentioned the mock game, but how important is that?
06:31 You can do everything physically, but mentally too.
06:33 You talked about how taxing it can be.
06:35 How important is that heading into a big game like this to focus on yourself?
06:38 >> It's one of the most important days of fall camp, cuz you get this close.
06:42 You've implemented a lot of schemes.
06:44 You've tried to introduce concepts.
06:46 You've tried to do a lot of different things to help guys understand situations.
06:50 But tomorrow you got off flight.
06:51 And we try to do that a week before, we're here for eight days.
06:54 I think it's a week plus from when we've done it before.
07:01 But I always like to be able to have that to go back into cleanup.
07:04 So obviously we'll have another run through before we actually play during
07:09 the game week.
07:09 But just trying to force communication, force the understanding.
07:14 Make sure guys know how important it is to be locked in throughout that contest,
07:18 whatever can show up.
07:19 >> Is there any way to prepare scout wise for the quarterback to run?
07:23 Other than using Jordan, how do you prepare for gate A?
07:26 >> I mean, it's hard.
07:27 And we've got athletic quarterbacks, and
07:30 we're gonna be able to implement some of that throughout the scout periods.
07:35 But we go against Jordan every day, and that's when I talk about the speed.
07:40 And there's times in practice where it has nothing to do with the opponent.
07:45 We're just gonna go against each other, and something I do believe in.
07:49 And so we'll see speed with Jordan.
07:52 And Daniels, he brings his own challenges and how to defend them.
07:57 And so we'll try to mimic that as best as possible.
08:01 >> Good idea, great idea to add Cam to coach Sir Tam versus
08:08 Coach Dugan's on the goal line.
08:10 Offense wins, they get something, they're treated, defense wins.
08:13 >> Terrible idea.
08:14 >> I was right enough.
08:16 >> If one of them, yeah, he said good or great, right?
08:19 >> Good or great, yeah.
08:20 >> That was a terrible idea.
08:22 For the man of the people, that was not a good one.
08:24 >> [LAUGH] >> Because if we lose one of them to
08:26 an Achilles or a knee, and I don't get to see them run around every day,
08:30 that'd be a pretty terrible situation.
08:32 They got to do plenty of their showcasing athletic ability
08:36 in and throughout their career.
08:38 Now it's time to use that.
08:40 >> So nice, that's a good one.
