Reaction to concerning Tony Mowbray reports following Rotherham United win
Transcript
00:00 well. I think it's a similar story in a way to sort of Gooch, Barr and Pritchard. I don't think
00:06 Kiril Uccef, as Christian speak, when Sunderland as a whole should ever stop trying to move forward
00:12 and push the club forward and advance and get up the table, get to the Premier League, get as far
00:17 as they can. By all means do that. That's what Sunderland fans want. That's certainly what I want
00:23 as a journalist. I want to cover this club as far as it can go. I want to be here for the good times,
00:28 but you do have to respect people and what they've done for the club. I think Mowbray, Pritchard,
00:34 Gooch and Bath have done a lot for Sunderland. You do have to be careful what you wish for.
00:39 Sometimes progress for the sake of progress can mean you accelerate a little too quickly and then
00:44 everyone's looking in six to 12 months' time going, 'Who's going to get us through this
00:50 really difficult time?' The likes of Mowbray, Pritchard, Gooch and Bath are somewhere else.
00:57 I think caution would be my message. As you touched on as well, I think all the players
01:03 really have a lot of respect for Mowbray. As you say, his door's always open.
01:06 They always speak very positively of him. He's very honest in press conferences, isn't he, with
01:12 people like Bath and Pritchard and Gooch, who could potentially take that the wrong way,
01:17 but I think he's also honest with them behind the scenes. He's just a nice, genuine bloke,
01:22 as you say. I don't really recall anybody saying much of a bad word about him in football other
01:29 than Roy Keane in a documentary about the Sunderland promotion season, but that was
01:33 sort of unrelated anyway. A bit of a tangent, but journalists or players, I'm sure there will be
01:40 somewhere, but I've never heard anything but good things about him in terms of people's dealings
01:46 with him. It's another big game for them this weekend. Kathleen is right away at
01:52 Coventry, who were obviously in the playoff final last season, so we'll have more build-up to that
01:57 game over on the SAFC section of the Sunderland Echo website. Mowbray will be speaking to the
02:02 media later in the week ahead of that game at the CBS Arena, and you can find more analysis,
02:09 transfer news and all the latest things that are going on at the Stadium of Light over on the Echo
02:14 website. This has been another episode of the RAW podcast. Thanks a lot for joining us.
