00:00 Have you thought of what your group has done through 14 practices?
00:04 >> They've done a good job of, for one, trying to be leaders,
00:09 trying to encourage guys, motivating each other.
00:12 It's been a close knit group.
00:15 These guys have been pushing each other and challenging each other.
00:18 And they've been giving maximum effort.
00:22 I'm really pleased with where we are right now.
00:25 But they have been taking turns making plays.
00:30 And my biggest thing is finishing.
00:31 And I've been wanting those guys to finish, whether it's in the run game,
00:36 finishing on the perimeter in the blocking game, and
00:39 then also finishing with the ball in their hands.
00:41 So we had some good days, and we had some days that hadn't been so well.
00:46 But the consistency is starting to see it.
00:49 >> We've heard good things about Kevin Coleman's work habits and
00:53 how he gets things done.
00:55 What would have you seen from the manager's perspective?
00:57 >> He's come in and he's been acting like a pro.
00:59 I've been pleased with him, the way he handles the transition
01:07 to come into Florida State.
01:08 He hasn't come in and tried to be somebody else.
01:11 He's been himself, soaking everything in, asking questions.
01:15 He's a quick learner.
01:17 He's been really good for that room.
01:19 So he's displayed some really good things out on the football field
01:24 as a pass catcher, route runner, and blocking on the perimeter.
01:27 So he's been really good for that room, and also being vocal and
01:31 helping the young guys.
01:33 >> In what ways has Johnny Wilson, coming back, how has he improved?
01:36 >> He's a better route runner now.
01:39 And at times, he's better catching the football.
01:44 He'll have his moments.
01:47 But he's done a really good job transitioning in and
01:50 out of his breaks, helping some of the younger guys, finishing on the perimeter.
01:55 He's made some big time plays for us this camp.
01:58 And he's gotta continue to work to be consistent.
02:01 >> How good is that competition overall compared to since you've been here?
02:08 >> Probably the most competition that we've had since I've been here.
02:12 With multiple guys, multiple positions.
02:16 I was bigger than what we were in the past, which is a good thing.
02:22 You have some of the smaller guys that's been battling as well.
02:25 When they do battle, it's not only on the football field, but
02:28 it's just everything that they do.
02:29 How well they learn.
02:31 They gotta show me that coaching can trust me and put me in the game.
02:35 And that's been the focus, being dependable and
02:38 being accountable, holding myself accountable as well.
02:41 To make sure those guys know what they're doing.
02:44 >> What's it like seeing Winston looking like the guy you guys thought you were
02:47 getting?
02:47 >> Just when you understand, just see how far he's come and
02:53 what he had to go through.
02:54 It's really pleasing to see him get back out on the field and run routes,
03:00 catch the balls, move, his ability, getting out of breaks, those different things.
03:05 Just good to see him out there running around with the guys.
03:08 >> How's Justin Hildon earning your trust and also how impressed were you by
03:11 how he came in after that point?
03:12 How does it work for him?
03:14 >> Yeah, the kid loves to work.
03:16 He doesn't shy away from it.
03:18 He's been out for a while, starting with the summer with skills and drills.
03:22 He's one of the ones that's been pushing himself.
03:24 Straining in the summertime.
03:29 I've been on him hard.
03:31 He's been responding.
03:33 He's been responding really good to whatever we throw at him.
03:36 Try to put him in uncomfortable situations.
03:39 He responds to it.
03:40 A couple times he's getting his butt kicked a little bit.
03:43 But he's someone that you know when he really gets it,
03:48 the fundamentals and the technique down, he's gonna be a problem.
03:51 >> Not just Johnny, you want everybody to catch every single throw coming in.
03:55 But what would Johnny, I don't wanna call it a trade off, but on the whole,
03:58 you guys gotta be really, what he can do, just his skill set,
04:02 it makes up for any sort of mental hiccup here and there.
04:05 >> Well, with Johnny, I've had some guys, 6'5", 6'6".
04:10 I never had a young man that can bend, change directions,
04:14 getting out of his brakes, accelerating off the ball, and catching the football.
04:20 His catch rate is like him.
04:22 I mean, you don't get those type often.
04:26 When you do get it the first couple of times, I saw him run, I'm like,
04:30 he's different, he's gonna be a special.
04:33 And he is, he's gotta continue to grow and
04:38 help him with his game to be that elite player on every single play.
04:44 But he is special.
04:45 >> With guys like him, Keon, Destin, all these guys that we're seeing,
04:49 what is your guys' role in this offense in terms of making it
04:53 look as effective as it does right now at this point in time?
04:55 >> Well, those guys, they wanna be playmakers.
04:57 And when you talk about, when Coach Noville talks about players coming to shine,
05:01 here in Doe Campbell, that's what they believe in.
05:04 They wanna be the best in the country.
05:06 They wanna catch balls on the perimeter, but those guys gotta understand, too, and
05:08 I always tell those guys, it's only one ball.
05:10 What if one week you have eight to ten catches, and the next week you got none?
05:16 Are you gonna be happy for your teammates?
05:18 Are you still gonna encourage?
05:19 Are you gonna be disappointed?
05:21 So in that room, we talk about being selfless players.
05:24 And that's really big, and it started in January.
05:29 Cuz during the season, we got some guys out there.
05:31 We got great running backs, great tight ends, at the skilled position.
05:35 And everybody can't get the ball.
05:37 So their mindset's been, when my number's called, I'm gonna be ready.
05:41 I wanna be ready when my number's called, whether or not I'm the first guy,
05:44 the second guy, or the third guy on the depth chart.
05:47 I gotta be ready when my number's called.
05:48 So everybody's playing a role.
05:50 Going into this training camp, I told those guys, some guys are gonna go down.
05:53 Who's gonna be ready?
05:54 Cuz everybody's gonna get an opportunity, and they have.
05:57 And those guys are trying to take advantage of it.
05:59 >> Do you share stories from your days as a player?
06:01 Cuz you guys have similar situations.
06:03 >> Mm-hm. >> Do you not bring back?
06:05 >> [LAUGH] I don't bring it.
06:10 Shut up, man.
06:10 I don't bring it up as much as Corey Fuller wants me to bring it up.
06:17 A lot more than what I do.
06:18 But I do bring up what it's like to be a receiver here at Florida State.
06:24 The things that we believed in when I was a player here.
06:27 And how we pushed each other as a player.
06:30 And we loved each other.
06:32 It was all about togetherness.
06:34 And I do bring up some of the stories and
06:36 some of the different things I've gone through as a player,
06:38 as a receiver here at Florida State.
06:41 And those guys, they respect it.
06:43 They understand it.
06:43 They know what it means and what it feels like to be a receiver at Florida State.
06:46 >> Last year, you had Micah and Pokey, who loved to go downfield and block.
06:51 How has that carried over to this group,
06:52 especially with Johnny returning and some of the returners?
06:54 >> Mm-hm, I mean, that's our identity.
06:58 We wanna be known for our physicality on the perimeter.
07:01 In the pass game, the run game.
07:03 But as run blockers, we wanna be physical run blockers.
07:07 And those guys take pride in that.
07:08 Cuz you got the O-line, the running backs, tight ends that block for us on pass plays.
07:13 And those guys wanna return the favor in the run game.
07:15 So they take pride in that.
07:17 That's what they've been doing.
07:19 >> What is it that you wanna see on the field over the next two weeks?
07:21 [INAUDIBLE] >> Just being consistent,
07:26 that sense of urgency, tempo in between plays, the communication with each other,
07:31 communication with the officials.
07:33 Just on every single play, you gotta see that communication between the guys,
07:38 with the officials, all right, and then just playing faster.
07:41 Still got some of the young guys that's been getting reps.
07:43 Now they've been getting more reps than normal.
07:46 And they've been swimming a little bit.
07:49 So it's like get lined up, get lined up, not focusing on anything around.
07:53 Sometimes the defense change from pre-snap to post-snap, all right?
07:57 And then sometimes we have a motion or something like that.
07:59 So just get the information from the sideline and process it.
08:03 >> [INAUDIBLE]
08:08 >> Yeah, he has.
08:12 And this past week's been a good week for him.
08:14 He's really turning it on.
08:16 Has it been perfect?
08:17 No.
08:18 But you've seen some moments where he's looked really good.
08:23 So he's done a better job of catching the football as well.
08:25 But it's good to see him playing a little faster and catching the play.
08:29 >> Is that an example of how to practice?
08:33 >> Yeah, it is.
08:34 And I told him as well, when he came here to watch us practice,
08:38 he said we practice hard.
08:40 And that's something that he wasn't used to doing.
08:42 With the tempo and how much we run here at Florida State,
08:46 he just had to transition and get used to it.
08:49 And sometimes it takes a little longer than others.
08:54 I've been staying on him, Coach Lovell's been staying on him.
08:57 He's starting to respond.
08:59 So it's been really good to see him this past week when he's been really challenged.
09:04 I had to do some of those things and step up.
09:06 >> During the summer, Jordan complimented Keal Hart on how quickly he learned
09:10 multiple state of error.
09:11 Is he just one of those guys that picks things up quickly or
09:13 is he just quick and accurate?
09:16 >> He studies, but he's a young man that retains the information.
09:21 So he's done a really good job with that.
09:22 Like I said before, he always asks questions.
09:25 He's always quizzing himself.
09:26 What do I have, if I'm at this position?
09:30 And we teach conceptually.
09:32 So he's done a really good job of picking up the concepts.
09:34 Doesn't matter if I'm the number one, two, or three guy.
09:37 What's the concept?
09:38 I don't care what position I'm playing.
09:40 So he's done a good job with doing the studying.
09:43 He's got really good habits.
09:45 And that's helped him to learn the offense and what we're doing.
09:49 >> I think sometimes fans and media, when we see these six, four, six, seven guys,
09:53 can they all be out there together or do you need more of a smaller guy sometimes?
09:58 >> They can be.
10:01 Yeah, they can be.
10:03 >> Good, two more.
10:05 >> What do we gotta do to see you and Coach Sir Tan one on one?
10:08 Can we make it happy?
10:09 >> Just line it up.
10:10 >> Okay.
10:10 >> Just line it up, baby.
10:12 But it's gotta be in the low res zone.
10:13 >> [LAUGH] >> Low res zone.
10:16 Either fade or slant.
10:17 That's it.
10:18 That's all I got.
10:20 >> Should we put our money on you?
10:21 >> Hell yeah.
10:22 >> All right.
10:22 >> [LAUGH] >> What do you mean?
10:24 That's a trick question.
10:25 He does look good though.
10:27 No.
10:27 [LAUGH] >> Thanks, Coach.
