00:00 >> Coach, I know you always want five guys ideally working on the interior.
00:04 What do you think about some of the four guys, whether it's Fisk, Farmer,
00:07 Briggs, guys like that that are bringing the energy forward?
00:10 >> It's funny you said five guys.
00:13 On the inside, if you can have five, six,
00:17 seven guys ready that can play, rotate, 12 game season and play hard.
00:23 Man, that's the ideal situation.
00:25 We have an ideal situation here.
00:27 We got a bunch of guys that are working hard and loving each other.
00:31 >> How is Brayden look the last few practices?
00:34 After not doing much in the spring, it seems he's coming along now.
00:37 >> Yeah, Brayden is a smart football player.
00:40 Plays hard, plays hard, plays fast, plays hard.
00:44 His engine never stops.
00:46 >> Coming off the scrimmage last week,
00:49 who did you like the most in that setting?
00:52 And who are you pushing to do more?
00:54 >> Well, the biggest thing about the position group, our position group,
00:59 not my position group, our position group, they play with pretty good technique.
01:04 They're using their hands, snatching blocks around the rest of the pass pretty good.
01:08 But one thing, I had to push them this week, got underneath the shoes and
01:12 things, playing lower pass, playing lower pass, beat the man in front of you.
01:16 Make sure we're being disciplined, doing the little things correct.
01:19 Cuz if we do the little things correct, we can be very good.
01:22 We don't get any power if we do the little things correct.
01:25 >> [INAUDIBLE]
01:32 >> He's an extremely hardworking kid,
01:34 smart kid, smart football player.
01:36 I'm telling you, we're blessed to have KJ.
01:40 He's gonna be a good football player for us.
01:42 Not only a very good football player,
01:45 he's gonna be a great addition to this team and for the community.
01:48 >> [INAUDIBLE]
01:55 >> Keep working, he's part of this football.
01:59 He is part of our family.
02:03 We got his back.
02:04 >> [INAUDIBLE]
02:07 >> What have you seen from Joshua over the last, I guess, year in particular,
02:10 in this camp?
02:11 >> The last year, Joshua has gotten bigger, and his football IQ has gone way up.
02:17 He knew football, but his football IQ has gone to another level,
02:20 knowing the backfield sets and things like that.
02:23 Understandings when offensive linemen pulling,
02:26 when linemen running stretch plays, where the backs in.
02:29 Joshua's football IQ has gone way up, even higher than it used to be.
02:34 And he's playing harder, too.
02:37 And I'm really enjoying seeing him do that.
02:39 >> He's got, is he still moving around as good as he used to?
02:42 >> Yes. >> Specifically, do you?
02:43 >> Yes, he's moving around.
02:45 He better move around cuz he know I'll be kidding him.
02:48 And that's one thing, he is taking the challenge.
02:50 And Josh, he's working his butt off, man.
02:52 Really love that.
02:53 >> Situational drills today?
02:55 >> Nothing.
02:56 >> Situational drills today, how do you guys feel like you did,
02:59 two minute drills and all that?
03:00 >> Really, you know what?
03:02 I don't look at how we do it.
03:03 I wanna see what they did, the progress they're making toward that play.
03:09 At that moment, you know what I'm saying?
03:11 I don't keep tabs like that.
03:13 I just wanna see how they go out there and play, how hard they're playing.
03:16 >> How much has Dennis Myers outgrew you guys?
03:20 You guys got a freshman year,
03:22 you guys are starting to gradually get in line to kick this game?
03:26 >> There are coaches in the classroom, there are coaches on the field.
03:31 They're doing a great job with the guys.
03:34 >> Within your minds, how has he evolved over the last four months for you?
03:37 >> He's gotten bigger.
03:39 And the thing about Danny is he's a very smart football player.
03:42 And he's just 19 years old.
03:44 I got to keep working on with his technique, keeping his pace, striking blocks.
03:48 Doing those things right, fundamentally sound.
03:51 That's the thing I'm staying on Danny about, being fundamentally sound.
03:54 When you got a talented guy that go out and beat people just on talent,
03:58 they don't wanna lie to that talent.
04:02 I'm not saying Danny ain't lying, but Danny ain't lying, he's doing that.
04:05 He's listening to it.
04:08 But you got great talent, you gotta push it, push it, push it,
04:11 make sure they do it the right way, all the time.
04:14 >> With the offensive line you guys have this year,
04:17 what's the battle's been like with the defensive line, the offensive line?
04:22 >> It's been some great battles.
04:23 Alex Ackerman, he does a great job of coaching, using the hands,
04:27 coming out of the hips, double teams, all that.
04:30 He does a great job.
04:31 And it's been some great battles.
04:33 And it's been fun to watch both sides of them against each other.
04:37 >> You coach the whole defensive line at times.
04:38 And so you see Patrick, you see Jared.
04:40 And I see you complimenting Patrick in the way he's striking the sled.
04:43 I mean, what kind of players Patrick and Jared,
04:45 can you kind of compare and contrast?
04:47 >> I tell you what, Patrick may be one of the smartest players I've seen around here
04:51 in a long time.
04:52 Patrick coming in, he's light.
04:54 Patrick's so much more physical than he used to be,
04:56 cuz he was light, he wasn't strong.
04:58 And he understand the game.
05:00 And he's becoming an even better pass rusher, stopping the run,
05:03 striking blockers.
05:05 He's becoming a complete player.
05:07 He need to keep working, you know?
05:09 And Jared, you know how Jared is.
05:10 Jared's gonna work.
05:11 >> Lots of people at home know how Jared is, coach.
05:13 >> Yeah, he go out, have fun, he work hard, talk some noise, go out and work.
05:17 We have fun in the meeting room, talking and things, but Jared works hard.
05:22 Leading the young guys in the group, him at that.
05:26 >> You helped build this thing on the field.
05:28 You saw this program reach heights that no one else really had in the modern era.
05:31 But you've also seen some of the more lean times.
05:34 The fact it seems like you guys are back on the right track.
05:38 I mean, how exciting is that for you personally?
05:40 And what do you kind of point to some things that has led to that happening?
05:44 >> But you know what, not trying to be sarcastic.
05:48 The past is the past.
05:49 We've had a great past here at Florida State.
05:52 Coach Novell's doing an outstanding job, not just on the football field.
05:56 And the thing a lot of people don't realize, the change of this team,
06:00 starting off the field in the classroom, things like that.
06:03 That's so important.
06:04 People forget about that.
06:06 They talk about winning games.
06:07 First, you have to start doing things off the field the right way.
06:10 Coach Novell has established that culture right there.
06:14 Doing things the right way all the time off the football field.
06:16 Classroom, locker room, things like that.
06:20 I'm happy to see this, extremely happy to see this.
06:25 >> We always confident that it was gonna turn around?
06:27 >> Excuse me? >> We always confident it'd turn around
06:29 as quickly around the corner?
06:30 >> We got the right man leading the ship.
06:31 [BLANK_AUDIO]
06:34 >> Awesome, thanks Coach.
