00:02 All right, we're here in Denver, my 15th training camp stop.
00:05 I got five takeaways from the Broncos.
00:07 Takeaway number one, there's no question that this is an old school training camp,
00:10 and that should come as no surprise.
00:12 Sean Payton is from the Bill Parcells School.
00:14 His first training camp was always gonna be a tough one.
00:17 And it's part of why the Broncos emphasize makeup in the players they brought in.
00:21 And guys like Ben Powers and Mike McGlinchey and Zach Allen,
00:24 they wanted guys who'd be willing to do the work and could also set an example for
00:28 what Sean Payton and his crew are gonna be willing to pay for and
00:32 what they're gonna be willing to pay for.
00:34 Takeaway number two, the reshaping of the offensive line is apparent with guys like
00:37 Powers and McGlinchey in-house.
00:39 And I would expect that to be a point of emphasis for
00:41 Sean Payton for as long as he's here in Denver.
00:43 If you look at his history, going back to New Orleans,
00:46 there have been times when they didn't pay skilled players there, but
00:48 they always invested in the offensive line.
00:51 And that should help as an investment in their quarterback.
00:55 The idea here is to create a clearer picture for Russell Wilson,
00:58 get him in play action and movement stuff a little bit more.
01:01 And having a good offensive line will really help in managing situations and
01:06 helping them create better situations for their quarterback.
01:08 Takeaway number three, the secondary, which was already pretty good,
01:11 should be improved.
01:12 And it's not just guys like Justin Simmons and
01:14 Patrick Sertan who are already really good players.
01:16 It's what's around them.
01:17 Caden Stern, second year safety out of Texas, has looked great all summer.
01:22 And he's got similar versatility to Simmons.
01:24 He can play up, he can play back, he can blitz.
01:26 And that's gonna allow Vance Joseph to use those two guys as interchangeable parts.
01:30 And then opposite Sertan, Damari Mathis has really come on as a second corner.
01:35 Takeaway number four, Cortland Sutton's had a great summer.
01:38 Another year off of that injury.
01:40 He looks fast.
01:41 He's coming in and out of his breaks.
01:42 Well, he's dropping his weight well for a bigger guy.
01:45 And between he and Jerry Judy, I think the Broncos are pretty happy that they held on
01:48 to both those guys who had been involved in trade talks back in the spring.
01:53 And finally, takeaway number five,
01:54 I know you guys all wanna hear about Russell Wilson.
01:56 He's probably 10 to 15 pounds lighter than he was a year ago.
02:00 I really feel like just having been out there,
02:03 Sean Payton's building an offense that's gonna be tailored to what Russell Wilson
02:07 did really well over his best years in Seattle.
02:10 And the hope is that he's gonna buy into that and
02:11 they're gonna get great results out of it.
02:13 That's it for me from Denver.
02:14 Next stop, San Francisco.
