00:00 - Hey, JJ, Wasey said he thought your superpower
00:05 is emotional intelligence.
00:09 When did you realize that, if you agree with that?
00:14 And what was your sort of pre-draft conversation
00:17 with him like?
00:17 - I would say with the EQ,
00:21 that's something that my fiance's dad mentioned
00:25 when I first met her,
00:26 and that's something I really didn't know about.
00:29 And then I dug into it and I started to realize like,
00:32 okay, that makes a lot of sense.
00:33 And it's just the ability to connect with others,
00:37 to build relationships,
00:39 because at the end of the day,
00:41 you're going to war every single Sunday.
00:43 And to be able to be a part of a true family
00:48 and to have those relationships on and off the field
00:50 that are willing to die for each other,
00:52 like, going into it, I'd be willing to,
00:55 oh, wow, that's ingress acute.
00:58 I'm sorry about that.
00:59 Hockey guy, one-on-one and going to the hockey state.
01:05 But I'd say, just being able to connect with the teammates,
01:09 connect with the coaches,
01:11 that's the most important thing,
01:12 because like I said, you're going to war every single Sunday
01:16 and you got to have each other's back.
01:17 You got to be willing to trust one another in that foxhole.
01:20 And that's something that I feel like
01:25 is the foundation to success
01:27 and being able to make that a focal point
01:29 with every single place that I've been to
01:31 is something that helped me more than anything else.
01:34 And that's something that Kweisi and I talked about
01:38 when we had the one-on-one meeting,
01:40 just being able to express to him who I am as a person.
01:45 I'm somebody that, as a leader,
01:47 I'm going to, like, say you screw up on a route,
01:50 I'm going to ask you why,
01:51 and I'm going to look you in the eye and say,
01:53 hey, how were you perceiving that moment?
01:58 How were you perceiving that particular instant
02:03 and be able to actually talk about it
02:07 instead of drill you and say, hey, you did the wrong thing.
02:10 I feel like that's just something that, as a leader,
02:14 if you don't have that ability
02:16 to connect with your teammates
02:18 and actually understand the why behind everything,
02:20 then it's going to be a struggle
02:22 to get to that next point and move on to greater things.
02:26 - Yeah, first, congrats, JJ.
02:28 I was not expecting to ask you how you know Wayne Gretzky,
02:32 but yeah, I'll ask that to start.
02:34 - For sure, how we doing, Alec?
02:37 - Yeah, good.
02:38 - All right, yeah, so Wayne actually,
02:41 he's really good friends
02:43 with my off-the-field marketing agent, Ira Sahlberger,
02:48 and obviously the hockey connection's always there.
02:52 And he hit me up on FaceTime
02:55 right after the national championship, January 9th,
02:58 and just being able to sit there
03:03 and be just a witness to the greatness
03:08 that is spreading his appreciation to what I was able to do
03:12 and what I was able to represent.
03:15 It meant so much because, obviously, growing up,
03:18 he was one of my GOATs on Mount Rushmore,
03:21 and I give so much credit to him
03:24 because he inspired me so much.
03:26 And just being able to go to a state in the Midwest,
03:31 I'm a Midwest guy,
03:32 and to go to a state that lives, breathes,
03:35 and eats hockey and football, it's just a perfect fit,
03:39 and I can't wait to be a part of it.
